Why won't mail delete?

I have a comcast.net mail account set up on my ipad2. While checking mail, I delete after reading. However if I quit the application and go back in, everything I just deleted shows back up as new messages. I have my advanced settings set to remove the messages from the server when removed from the inbox. What am I missing?

The likely reason is because you have a Pop account.  See the differences below between Pop, IMAP and Exchange.....POP accounts typically do not synch between devices.......
POP vs. IMAP vs. Exchange

POP
Not made for keeping multiple computers/devices and web in sync
Generally, mail is downloaded from the server upon checking it (unless you use a tool like Outlook which has the ability to leave it on the server)
Even if you leave messages on the server, if you delete on remote device, it will not delete on the server (unless you have a client tool like Outlook which will give you some options)
If you send from remote device, it is not pushed to a sent items folders on the server
Only brings messages down in the Inbox (not sub-folders)
No good push capability for mobile devices (as of this writing)
POP is low cost
Most personal email accounts use POP (i.e. Gmail)
IMAP
Keeps multiple computers/devices and web in sync
Mail is left on the server when checked
Inbox and sub-folders are brought down to client machine/device
Push mail available on mobile devices, but many complain of poor support
Newer than POP
Catching on among personal users who do not have Exchange
Exchange
The most robust email platform
Mail is kept on the server
Allows calendar, tasks, notes, etc. in addition to email
Allows group collaboration of calendars, etc. when used in a group environment
Excellent about keeping everything (PCs/mobile devices/web) in sync
Push email for mobile devices (Blackberry and non-Blackberry with Exchange ActiveSync)
Pretty much the standard for medium size and enterprise email/collaboration
Expensive
Gaining popularity among small businesses and personal users as it becomes more affordable

  • Why won't Mail save stationery? with OS X Lion

    I have checked
    Why won't Mail save stationery?
but it applies for Lepoard so what about Lion?
Any Help? I did remove all the signature yet, still cannot save it.

    I've solved it!
When you have saved the stationery, and opened a new email, make sure you have NO SIGNATURE.
If you have 'None' in the signature drop down list, then the template will display fine.
If you have a signature automatically added to emails, it interferes with the template being displayed and all you get is the signature.
So start with a blank email and no signature, before you select your custom-saved stationery.

  • After connecting to Internet, clicking Mail icon, why won't Mail open?

After connecting to internet, clicking Mail Icon, why won't Mail open?

Try opening Mail from the Applications folder. Your Dock icon may be damaged.

  • Why won't mail open when click on icon?

why won't my mail open when I click on icon but other users can open theirs?

    Howdy lpedvm23,
If Safari is not opening any window when you click the icon, I would use these troubleshooting steps from the following article:
If Safari can’t open a window - Safari Help
If you can’t open Safari or a new Safari window, try these suggestions.
Use the latest version of Safari and OS X. To check for a Safari update, choose Apple menu > App Store, then click Updates. For more information, see Keep your Mac up to date.
Check your startup disk using Disk Utility.
If the other suggestions don’t help, try reinstalling OS X.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Take care,
    Sterling

  • Why won't Mail.app rules won't migrate, System Tiger to System Leopard?

    Hi,
Mail.app rules won't migrate from System Tiger to System Leopard.
    Here's what I did:
-- Clean install of System Leopard 10.5.6 onto a new Mac Pro.
-- Used Migration Assistment to move files from System Tiger to System Leopard 10.5.6.
-- Mail.app's rules failed to migrate.
So, I manually finder-copied MessageRules.plist into the proper folder to replace the newly created and empty rules set in System Leopard's mail.app, and afterwards, the rules then showed up in mail's preferences.
However, the "manually migrated" [finder copied] rules won't run.
In order to narrow the scope of the problem, I moved the former System Tiger's mail.app rules to the desktop and allowed mail.app to re-create a new rules plist file, then I created a test rule and it worked.
    Questions:
Why won't System Tiger's mail.app rules files migrate to System Leopard, and won't work upon manual migration?
What is the remedy to "properly import" the rules to the new [System Leopard based] mail.app, or to make the manually moved rules plist file work?
For what it's worth I did follow the procedures at
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread....9306&tstart=90
in order to make the messages migrate, but that failed to affect the rules.
    Thanks much,
    Jack

  • Mailbox behaviors have been set, why won't mail in trash won't automatically delete?

I have set the MailBox Behaviors to delete Trash at 30 days.  It won't delete.

    scooger,
If you read the post that originated this thread, you’ll see that your problem is clearly not the same. The problem in the case of the OP appears to be that the Trash reports some messages being there that don’t show up.
Posting about your problem in a thread that is discussing something else is called threadjacking, and goes against the Terms of Use of these forums:
Threadjack—To wrongly post a dissimilar issue in an existing discussion, distracting from the true focus of the discussion. If your issue has any significant difference from a similar topic, then you're probably better off posting a new topic to focus attention on your particular issue. You may be able to get rid of those messages in Mail doing Edit > Cut (⌘X) (for best results do it with one message or just a few at a time). If that doesn’t work, please either find a thread that really discusses the same problem, or start a new topic to properly discuss your problem in its own thread.

  • Why won't mail open pps in keynote '09??

Since I installed SL can anyone tell me why, whenever I open a powerpoint presentation in mail instead of opening keynote '09 it opens keynote test drive in version '08 (although I have already purchased '08 and '09 ) and have have both installed on my system. I don't understand why it won't use '09 to open pps docs. If anyone knows of a solution or workaround I would be most grateful.

    Thanks for that.
I tried deleting the plist, then 'choosing to open with iwork '09 and change all but still it jumps back to the default '08.
Is there any other way I can change the default to '09?

  • Why won't Mail save stationery?

I just did a clean install of 10.6, and Mail won't save custom stationery I try to create. It does create the Custom category and shows what I saved there, but the text I entered is missing - only my signature shows up. The message has several of Mail's bulleted lists, but that shouldn't cause a problem. There are no graphics at all in my stationery.
Does anyone have any idea why this is happening? Any help would be appreciated.

    I've solved it!
When you have saved the stationery, and opened a new email, make sure you have NO SIGNATURE.

  • Why won't mail go online?

I can't figure out why Mail keeps taking my mail account offline.
It was so persistent, i changed from DSL to a Fiber providor, thinking it was DSL.
Lo and behold, it still happens.
Can  anyone give me some things to try?
I click on "take offline" then "Take online" and try it over and over.
    i cannot send mesages.
why does it show my account offline?

Thanks, Sanjampet, but i certainly did that first. Reading other posts, someone suggested repairing Permissions so I tried that using Disk Utility.
That worked, for like 15 minutes. then it stopped working, and i had to leave (I was doing this repair on my Mother-in-law's computer, she's 82, and LOVES her email.)
So, now she is very frustrated and sad, and I feel like a let her down.
Someone else suggested deleting the account and recreating it. She will lose her hundreds of emails (most of which are jokes) and that is a step she will not take.
I have never had this problem on a Mac. We both have Mac OS X , but she has 10.5.6 and I have 10.6.8
    Looking for more help, please.

  • Why won't Mail.app connect to iCloud mail?

I'm having a problem getting Mail app to connect to iCloud, iOS and iCloud web mail seem to be working fine with my @me.com/@iCloud.com address but Mail app on my mac is showing wh I try to add my account:
The iCloud IMAP server “p03-imap.mail.me.com” is not responding. Try checking the network connection, and that the server name is correct. Otherwise, the server might be temporarily unavailable. If you continue, you might not be able to receive messages.
Gmail has/is connected fine, why not iCloud?
    Thanks!

My internet connection is fine, but it won't let me change my incoming mail server to the icloud address. What do I do?
When you set up an iCloud account, it should set the correct incoming and outgoing mail servers. Why do you wish to change the servers? What are they showing that you think is not correct?

  • TS3276 I have recently had a problem with one of my hotmail accounts, some sort of virus sending random emails to people in my address book. Hotmail advised me to change my password for that account, which I did. Why won't mail recognise the new password?

I have recently had a problem with one of my hotmail accounts, some sort of virus sending random emails from my address book. Hotmail advised me to delete all contacts and change the password for that account, which I did on my laptop running windows XP. The change was successful and I was able to send and receive emails with no problem. I then had to change the account password on my iPhone 4s, which I did and it too was successful but when I came to change the password on my iMac, running the latest version of Lion it would not recognise the new password. I have tried to remove the account details and re-install but every time I go to add new account my old details are in the box. This is very frustrating as I use my iMac for all my profects and I need to access my email. Please help.

    hi guys,
I had already deleted all reference to the hotmail account in question from the keychain access app, I have also tried to delete and re-instal the account details from within mail. The icon in the side bar dissapears but when I go to Add Account, the old account details are in the new account box. I then input my new password but am told that the server does not recognise it. If I access hotmail via google on the iMac I can get into my account with no problems. I am thinking there must be some other form of security system within the mac software that is blocking the new password. This is driving me nuts. I have been trying to resolve this for the last two days. Thank you for your advise anyway.

  • Why won't mail stay synced with iCloud?

Every time I go into the settings for icloud and my email accounts the box for mail syncing is unchecked. So i check it again and as soon as i go out of that page and back in it is unchecked again. Why on earth is this happening? and how do i fix it?

Same here, can someone enlighten me why mail does not want to stay checked in the iCloud prefs? As soon as I check the box Mail & Notes, it says starting, I close the window, reopen it and it is deselect again. Drives me nuts!
I have one Apple ID, one account for as long as we had .mac addresses. Nothing weird or special. I must be missing something.
My iPad1 and iPhone4 and MacbookAir it functions as it should except on my iMac.
Running on both computers Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3 (11D50b) and the latest on IOS on the devices.
Another thing that has me baffled is the double addressing when I start a new mail.
It says from: [email protected] and next to it [email protected](icloud). Why?
I still do not see any features in this iCloud business at all. Syncing my iPhone and iPad over wifi via iCloud is horrible slow and takes hours. Syncing and backing up to computer is blazing fast because of the FIOS. I'm still willing to give it a try but these issues have me baffled. If someone has the answer please let me know! ;-)

  • Why won't Mail under Exchange send large attachments?

I upgraded my new iMac to Snow Leopard in large part because of its support for connecting to Exchange 2007 servers, which I use for my work. But I can't send attachments of any size.
Setting it up in Mail seemed to go fine - I connect using a software VPN and am able to read emails - and also send emails via the Exchange server, but only if they're small - under 1MB, really. Anything bigger and they just won't send - the wheel by 'Sent' just spins and spins. My work IT helpdesk weren't much help - they just said this was a 'known issue' with Snow Leopard that they couldn't address. It doesn't appear to have been fixed by 10.6.2.
What's going on here? It's clearly not a problem with email size limits on my work mail server, as I can use the webmail interface perfectly well, and also send emails from Outlook on my work PC, via the Exchange server. My other POP accounts set up in Mail also work fine.
    Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Maybe your ISP has put a limit on the number of addresses per email in an effort to reduce spam. Or maybe you have an invalid address in the list and your email client aborts sending the email.

  • Why won't Mail display incoming any more?

Yesterday in a moment of brain-fade, I accidently erased my In-box instead of a single email (OK, I didn't have my glasses on, and didn't read the dialogue box properly). The problem now is that although Mail tells me there's X number of mail in the inbox there's no sign of it. I thought about deleting the account and re-doing it but the dialogue box tells me I'll lose everything. Does that include mail stored in folders? Any ideas?

Not sure how do you expect deleting anything to be of any help in trying to recover something deleted previously...
What type of account is this (POP, IMAP, .Mac)?

  • Why won't mail verify my account?

Ever since i had my ipad i have never being able to set up mail on it and its really annoyng. it just comes up with we cant verify your account. The account was made back in 2005 but i dont see why it matters how old it is. I dont want to have to make a new account cause EVERYTHING gets sent to my current one =(

Ive been trying to get my e-mail to work for about a year though and it just comes up with something like the pop.live (or whatever it is) password is incorrect.
