Why won't my magic mouse respond?

I have tried changing the batteries multiple times, but there is still no response from the device; the green light does not even turn on. The mouse has unfortunately been dropped twice, but it still worked fine. Help is greatly appreciated, thank you in advance!

The mouse has unfortunately been dropped twice
I suspect this is your problem.  If the light will not come on, it is dead.

  • Why won't my magic mouse scroll on 10.7.3?

My magic mouse has stopped scrolling out of the blue.  I've taken a look at all preferences, restarted, shut down, etc. and can't seem to re-enable.

Curious.  I've seen conflicts with the PrefPanes when USBoverdrive was installed.  Normally the Mouse preference pane doesn't show the Magic Mouse options.
Try trashing the mouse preference file located in
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.driver.AppleBluetoothMultitouch.mouse.plist
~ is your home folder name.
Your home folder library is hidden by default in Lion but can be reached by starting a Finder window and then on the Menubar,   Finder > Go > hold the Option key down > select Library.  In the resulting screen find the Preferences folder and drag the file above to your desktop.
Restart.   OSx will create a new Preference List with default settings so you might have to visit any custom settings and reset them.

  • Apple Magic Mouse responds but does not want to click to web links, but wants to give me option to open, save, etc?  Keep trying by clicking again and again, finally it will let me link

Apple Magic Mouse responds but does not want to click to web links, but gives options instead, go back, look up, save, etc?  Changed batteries but does not solve the mouse problem.  I click all over the page and it continues to provide options and link is indicated in blue, but have to keep trying until it finally let me continue.

Are you sure you are clicking on the left side of the mouse, rather than somewhere in the middle (and probably closer to the right side)?

  • Magic Mouse responding erratically

My Magic Mouse is behaving very slow in some instances or stops, or does not responds. Batteries are full and everything in my Mac Pro 1,1 has worked perfectly from day one, this is something new.

  • Why does only my magic mouse work with 10.6.8 update?!!!

Hi. Ever since updating my software to 10.6.8, the ONLY mouse I can use is the Magic Mouse - ANYTHING ELSE I try and use, wireless or not, will cause my computer to crash. I get asked to turn it off and back on. As soon as I try another mouse, I get a black curtain go down my screen and the message comes up. I have been getting these Kernal Panic things also when I start up with another mouse connected. I HATE THE MAGIC MOUSE! And now I am being forced to use it. Is Apple serious about this? It's ridiculous. I can't work properly with this mouse. HELP!!!!! Is there going to be any fix?

If your HP is networked and using Bonjour as a protocol, then the 10.6.8 update made some changes to the core backend services such as Bonjour and this could be causing the error. With the job in error in the print queue, you can highlight the job (click once to select it) and then press the Job Info button (the blue circle with the white I inside). Doing this will give more information about the problem. You can post that information back here so we can advise what steps to take next.
If the printer is connected to the Mac via USB then you may just need to remove the existing print queue, by opening Print & Fax and selecting the HP and then pressing the minus button. With the queue removed you can then click the plus button to add the queue again, selecting the HP in the Default Add Printer view.

  • Why won't anyone from Adobe respond to my requests to activate my product?

I can't even get into chat with anyone.  UNBELIEVABLY POOR SERVICE!

I have tried numerous time and many ways to contact these people and no one ever talks to me or responds to my requests.  NOT GOOD SERVICE!  I had submitted everything through the process and got NO RESPONSE whatsoever.

Why would a person spend the mnoney for service like this?

  • Why won't my trimming tool respond?

Final Cut Pro X was working fine until the trimming tool stopped responding to all clips and story lines. I have tried to toggle the trimming tool on and off several time as well as toggling through all of the different tools. I've tried closing out the application as well completely restarted my computer. None of these tricks have worked. Has anyone else experienced this in Final Cut Pro X and if so what did you do to fix this?

Thanks Russ H, I won't be able to try out your advice until Tuesday but I definitely will let you know if trashing the preferences work out. As far as the problem goes, the mouse just doesn't seem to be repsonding correctly at all. None of the tools are functioning properly. In order to even just play the storyline from the beginning I have to double click at the beginning of the timeline and then hit space bar. Usually I should be able to just click once and it should recognize where i am clicking imediately. I feel like this is some sort of bug. It's not your average issue where you can just toggle the Trim tool on and off. Like I said, l will let you know on Tuesday how things work out with trash preferences.

  • Why won't my Finder icon respond?

Suddenly the files I kept visible on the desktop disappeared and Finder won't respond --- what has happened? The screensaver and desktop photo have changed --- ???? HELP!!!

    Do a backup.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist and com.apple.desktop.plist.  Move the .plists to your desktop.
Re-launch Finder by restarting the computer and test. If it works okay, delete the plists from the desktop.
If the same, return the .plists to where you got it  from, overwriting the newer one.
Thanks to leonie for some information contained in this.

  • Why won't my wireless mouse connect to Bluetooth?

My Bluetooth-operated mouse, which I've been using for at least 6 months, has stopped working on my iMac (2009 version). It simply lost connection from one second to the next, and I haven't been able to reconnect for weeks. (And yes, I put new batteries.) I know the Bluetooth on my computer is fine, because my wireless keyboard and speakers are connected just fine via Bluetooth. I tried turning the mouse off, and then on a few minutes later. I also tried turning off Bluetooth on my computer and then turning it back on in an attempt to "reboot" it. I also tried restarting the entire computer. I also opened Disk Utility to "verify and repair" disk in case there was any damage of some sort that was causing the problem. And when I went to test the mouse itself on a different computer (which is one of the older version iMacs that are plastic white and thick and have a smallish screen), the mouse connected to the Bluetooth there and worked perfectly. It's been very frustrating to use an older mouse with a short cord and the little ball-scrolling-thingie that doesn't work when I scroll down, only up.
When I try connecting the mouse to my iMac, I get one of two results. 1) Up until right before I submitted this question, the Bluetooth settings showed that the mouse "connected" but there's no response on screen when I move the mouse. After 5 or so seconds, it says "disconnected". 2) More recently, when I try pairing the mouse, it doesn't even connect at all anymore. I get the small yellow exclamation-mark-triangle error message, saying it can't connect to my mouse. What can I do, short of buying a new mouse? These wireless mice are too expensive, and I'd really like to resolve the issue with this one.

How to Reset Your Mac's SMC
The method for resetting your Mac's SMC depends on the type of Mac you have. All SMC reset instructions require shutting down your Mac first. If your Mac fails to shut down, try pressing and holding the power button until the Mac shuts down, which usually takes 10 seconds or so.
Mac portables with user-removable batteries (MacBook and most MacBook Pros):
      1 Shut down your Mac.
      2
3 Disconnect your Mac portable from its MagSafe connector.
      4
      5 Remove the battery.
      6
7 Press and hold the power button for at least 5 seconds.
      8
      9 Release the power button.
      10
      11 Re-install the battery.
      12
      13 Reconnect the MagSafe connector.
      14
      15 Turn your Mac on.
Mac portables with non-user-removable batteries (MacBook Air and some late 2009 MacBook Pro models):
      1 Shut down your Mac.
      2
3 Connect the MagSafe power adapter to your Mac and to a power outlet.
      4
5 On the built-in keyboard (this will not work from an external keyboard), simultaneously press and hold the left shift, control, and option keys while you press the power button. Release all keys at the same time.
      6
7 Press the power button to start your Mac.
Mac desktops (Mac Pro, iMac, Mac mini):
      1 Shut down your Mac.
      2
3 Unplug your Mac's power cord.
      4
5 Press and hold the Mac's power button for 15 seconds.
      6
      7 Release the power button.
      8
9 Reconnect your Mac's power cord.
      10
      11 Wait five seconds.
      12
13 Start your Mac by pressing the power button.
Alternative SMC reset for Mac Pro:
If you have a Mac Pro that isn't responding to the normal SMC reset as described above, you can force a manual SMC reset by using the SMC reset button located on the Mac Pro's motherboard.
      1 Shut down your Mac.
      2
3 Unplug the Mac's power cord.
      4
5 Open the Mac Pro's side access panel.
      6
7 Just below the Drive 4 sled and adjacent to the top PCI-e slot is a small button labeled SMC. Press and hold this button for 10 seconds.
      8
9 Close the Mac Pro's side door.
      10
11 Reconnect your Mac's power cord.
      12
      13 Wait five seconds.
      14
15 Start your Mac by pressing the power button.
Now that you have reset the SMC on your Mac, it should be back to operating as you expect. If the SMC reset didn't fix your problems, you can try combining it with a PRAM reset. Although the PRAM works differently than the SMC, it can, depending on your Mac model, store a few bits of information that the SMC uses.
If you're still having issues, you may wish to try running the Apple Hardware Test to rule out a defective component on your Mac.
    Resetting the Parameter RAM
One easy fix for many issues is to simply reset the PRAM to its default state. This will cause some data to be lost, specifically the date, the time, and the startup volume selection. Luckily, you can easily correct these settings using your Mac's System Preferences.
      1 Shut down your Mac.
      2
3 Turn your Mac back on.
      4
5 Immediately press and hold the following keys: command+option+P+R. That's four keys: the command key, the option key, the letter P, and the letter R. You must press and hold these four keys before you see the gray screen during the startup process.
      6
7 Continue to hold down the four keys. This is a long process, during which your Mac will restart on its own.
      8
9 Finally, when you hear the second startup chime, you can release the keys.
      10
11 Your Mac will finish the startup process.
Once your Mac finishes starting, you can use the System Preferences to set the time zone, set the date and time, select the startup volume, and configure any display options you wish to use.
To do this, click the System Preferences icon in the Dock. In the System section of the System Preferences window, click the Date & Time icon to set the time zone, date, and time, and click the Startup Disk icon to select a startup disk. To configure display options, click the Displays icon in the Hardware section of the System Preferences window.
Still having problems? Try resetting the SMC or running the Apple Hardware Test

  • Why won't my Magic TrackPad stay on?

Yesterday I changed the batteries in my Magic TrackPad, now it only blinks green two times, waits a beat, then repeats the green light. In preferences, it says found trackpad, then it states no trackpad found.  It was fine until yesterday.  I have not made any upgrades.  I am using Lion.

  • Why won't my iMovie 12 respond on startup?

I updated my MacBook Pro to OS X Mavericks a few months ago and my iMovie 12 was working fine after the update. Until, I was recording sound effects for a project and my iMovie froze. I tried force quitting the application and reopening it to see if anything changes, but it still wouldn't open. I've serached the internet for solutions to fix this problem and I came across deleting all my iMovie plist files and repairing disk permissions on disk utility. I tried both of these and my iMovie still won't open.
    Someone please help me!
    Thanks

Check your server files and make sure the movie actually uploaded; the controller could be there without the movie itself.
The html editing is basically the same, whether it's hosted on your iDisk or a remote server. In your case, navigate to the .js files for that particular page using any text editor (I like Taco, and it's free) and make the following changes to the script code that controls your movie: (you will find the movie code near the top of the page in the .js file)
    Change autoplay="false" to autoplay="true"
    Change loop="false" to loop="true"
Changing controller value="true" to controller value="false" will remove the controller from the page entirely. Make these changes in both sets of tags, (object and embed).
Make the changes and just "Save". (Now would be a good time to duplicate the modified .js file so you don't have to do this again the next time you make updates to that page.)
Now upload these changed files to your server, clear your browser cache and you should see the changes.

  • Why won't my Magic trackpad click?

I changed the batteris in my trackpad, reconnected it with my Bluetooth and the scrolling functions all seem to work, but I can't click on anything with a response. Any ideas out there? Sure it is something simple.

I'm afraid I don'thave an answer, but simply - more symptons which seem somewhat similar.
My trackpad (used with an iMac - latest OS), when I click with the lower left corner, invariably (3 times out of 4?) nothing happens. I need to click a second time for the "click" to take effect. Doesn't matter what I click on - all of the usual things - hyperlinks, dock, window open/close - whatever it is, first click invariably doesn't do anything, second click does.
I've got new batteries in it. I've diconnected from Bluetooth and reconnected. I've turned it off, then on. Still the same. This is a replacement for my first trackpad, which eventually wouldn't click at all.
Anyone else having these sorts of problems with the freestanding trackpad??
