Why would PayPal start a dispute inquiry over itunes payments?

I recently made 5 purchases from the iTunes store and as usual used PayPal as my funding source (linked to my bank account).  The next day I received emails from PayPal first informing me of an investigation into the transactions with Apple and asking me to change my password and make a couple of other security related changes.  In that email they told my my account was "Limited" (basically unuseable) until they received a response to emails they had sent to the SELLER (the iTunes Store).  They never asked me whether I authorized the transactions and when I informed them of that fact in an email I received one back informing me that the pending issues had been resolved and that my account was no longer limited.  I then received 5 emails related to each iTunes purchase saying it had been charged back for unauthorized activity.  Bottom line they initiated the inquiry on their own, never asked me if the charges where made by me and informed me of a chargeback after payment had been shown as MADE and Apple informed me they had been paid.  Somewhere I received an email from PayPal which made no sense saying the seller did not agree to my agreement with PayPal?  Anyone have any suggestions or info on this as iTunes had now for  the second time disabled my account, even after I changed the funding source to a credit card?

  • I set up Icloud, now when I try to listen to a song on my ipone 5s it asks me if I want to "download over cellular"? and additional fees may apply.  I've already bought this music, why would there be any more fees?

I bought my first Iphone - the Iphone S about a month ago.  I was able to listen to music no problem.  I recently figured out how to get my photos off of my phone and on to my PC, but was prompted to sign up for ICloud to do it.  Now when I try to listen to music on my phone, it asks me to download it from Icloud and asks "download over cellular"?  "Additional fees may apply when downloading phones over cellular".  I've already bought all my music, why would there be more fees and shouldn't ICloud have mentioned this?  Seems I need to take a class just to figure all this out.

The clouds you see next to your music on the device and iCloud are two different things. When your music is not on your device it is in iTunes in the Cloud. Not the same thing as iCloud which is used to sync information between devices and house backups of your device contents. So that little cloud you see next to your songs is telling you that the music is not on your device. That's why it is giving you the message - because when you click on it, it is attempting to download it to your device.
What may have happened is when you imported your photos to the PC, you may have sync'd your device via iTunes, and you did not have the Sync Music option checked in your device Profile screen.
Hook up your device to your PC and open iTunes. Make sure the sidebar is showing (Control+S if you cannot see the sidebar with Devices listed), and click on your device to open the Device Profile screens to the right. Click on the Music tab, and make sure that the Sync All Music or Sync Selected Music box is checked. If you have Sync Selected Music checked, then below that, make sure you check all music that you want on your device. Then click on SYNC at the bottom (or APPLY).
Once you have successfully sync'd your music to your device, you will no longer see the cloud next to the songs, and you also will no longer get a message since you will have the songs physically on your device and not in iTunes in the Cloud.

Why would my MacBook Pro suddenly start operating very, very slowly?

It could be a HDD issue or you may have installed some third party software that is causing the slow down.

  • HT3275 My iMac harddrive only has about 100 gb of use on it. But my backup disk has over 300 gb used up on it. Why would this be?

My iMac hard drive only has about 100 gb of use on it. But my backup disk has over 300 gb of usage on it. For instance, my iphoto library shows about 13 gb of photos but the backup disc shows almost 20 gb of photos in the iphoto library. Why would this be?

Because you are using Time Machine which is an archiving backup utility. Any change that is made to a file will cause another fully copy of the file to be backed up. Over time a Time Machine backup will take up an entire hard drive no matter how large the drive may be.

  • Why would wifes iPhone 5 start randome calls at 3:00 am?

Why would my wifes iPhone 5 start randome calls at 3:00 am? My wifes phone called my mother, me & one oher clients. When it called i hung it up went th go check on her & and the grandbaby in the other room. They were both out like a light. Looked at her phone and it was moving and selected another number and started to call it. I hung it up and turned it off. Funny thing is her phone was passcode protected.
    Any clues on this?

Make an appointment at an Apple Store if there is one nearby.
If not, try restoring the iPhone with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from the backup.

  • As an engineering student why would you buy a Mac over a PC?

Hello Everyone. I am an egineering student and I have an important question. Why would I buy a Mac over a PC? What are the advantages to engineers in using Mac. When I ask sales people they can only tell me that they are secure, and easy to use, but I am not sold. Anything you can share whether it's software related, hardware related, personal stories, company success, anything will be of great help. I am not looking for an answer for one particular type of engineering. Anything related to any field, mechanical, industrial, electrical, bio, anything would help. Thanks in advance.

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
As an Engineer myself I expect to use consumer software/hardware devices without training. If it's not intuative then the Engineer who designed it has not worked hard/smart enough. I use Windows 2K / NT at work (and previously at University) and am constantly frustrated with how lazy the design of the software and hardware is. Even applications like Outlook - seem to crash on me daily (and it's not just me I see all my colleagues battling too!) At home I've never owned anything but Macs - I won't subject myself to the pain of Windoze in my leisure time!
However when I was reading for my degree in engineering, owning a Mac proved more of a problem; I was having to run Win98 in emulation on Mac OS to run engineering software that I needed to study with (I was calculating Aerial transmission patterns in MathCAD; or laying out circuit boards etc). However it was still doable - if very slow back then!
Nowadays with Macs having Intel chips and with Bootcamp Windoze will install on your Mac for the occasional time that you need to use that bespoke software.
The rest of the time the Mac is a far nicer machine to use (I bought MS Office at student price) for reports, presentations, multimedia, Internet surfing etc etc. The slight extra expense of initial purchase of the Mac is soon saved as you don't have to buy security software or worry about viruses.
If you want to code your own software for a particular application then all the tools are included with the Mac and the Unix code makes the machine very customisable in that respect.
Switching to a Mac will be a steep learning curve... not because it's difficult - but because 95% of computers useers have mastered the way that MS like to do it. Actually it's never all that different though.
You'll also get plenty of support in these board - I've never known such a helpful place!
You can also get good discounts on many many items on the Apple Store for education... check out the links for your country from www.apple.com.

  • Why would my iMac suddenly start freezing?

Why would my iMac (less than one year old) suddenly start freezing?  This is the 3rd time in a week.  Thanks for any help.

Other than the ones that came on the computer I've only added Quicken and MahJong game.  I was looking at some other questions and I guess I should have put more info about Mac in my question. I am running OSX Mavericks 10.9.2   Computer purchase new in May, 2013.

  • Why would my other category suddenly jump to over capacity?

why would my other category suddenly jump to over capacity?

I'm in the process of updating an iPod Touch and iPad2 to IOS5.  I had the exact same thing happen in BOTH cases!  I've never experienced it before.
The fix, in both cases, is as Ingo2711 stated - restore the device.  And boy, has that been painful (as in taking several hours for each device).
While I accept that this problem has occured prior to IOS5 installs, I find it very odd that it occured to me on BOTH IOS5 installs.  Either there is something common to both my devices (an application perhaps?) that cased it or something about the IOS5 upgrade that makes this problem more likely.
Someone with a lot more knoweldge than I have would need to look at it to figure out what's going on.  I'll just be happy to have this issue behind me and hopefully, not see it again!

  • TS3376 Why would my iphone start beeping loud showing a FIND MY PHONE

My phone randomly went off last evening beeping very loud.  It had a message stating "FIND MY PHONE" or LOCATE PHONE.. Why would it go off all by itself?  I cannot seem to find any information on this out on the web.   Anyone know what happend or why?
I did recieve an email that said" SOUND PLAYED ON NIKKI'S PHONE"  then listed the date and time it happend.
    Thank you!

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
That would be because someone has activated the Find My Phone alert from another device or from iCloud.com feature using your Apple ID.

  • Why would you charge me $40 for a supposedly free upgrade?Have been a faithful verizon customer for years went in for myfree upgrade and paid for a iphone and protectve cover now I have to pay a fee for a free service? I will start switching my devices to

Why would you charge me$40 for a free upgrade? I chose a iPhone and paid you the difference plus protective cover, now you want to charge  me a fee for activating a number I have had for years!!!  I have been a faithful Verizon customer for years but I will switch companies when my contracts are up or I can get a buy out from another company, your free upgrade is not free and is a false advertisement as far as I'm concerned

However you had already stated you did not choose a "free upgrade", but paid the difference for an iPhone. So much for your "free upgrade". Additionally, I was not aware Verizon was in the business of giving away "free service"(s)?????? Purchasing a "free" or "reduced price" phone IS NOT a free service. You sign a contract in exchange for receiving that benefit. There is an upgrade fee along with that service you are contracted to complete or you will be charged an early termination fee(ETF), so this IS NOT a free service.
Yes, you have a choice to go with another provider which ALSO charges an upgrade fee OR charges you full retail value for your phone. So much for a "free upgrade" there.
    AT&T = upgrade fee
    Sprint = upgrade fee
T-Mobile = no upgrade fee but must pay full retail cost for the phone
For what it is worth, you would not have had to pay an upgrade fee had you simply paid full retail cost for your phone OR purchased it with Edge at full retail cost. Depending on your calling plan and data allowance, you may have even ended up paying less for your phone had you done so. That is why a little research before you make a purchase can go a long way.
I know it is cheaper for me to pay full retail for a phone than to purchase a discounted device in exchange for signing a contract.
Good luck with the new provider.

  • When I select a netflix movie on my iPad and push it to my apple TV, why doesn't the Apple TV take over the streaming, so that I can then use my iPad for other things?

From what I can tell, when I select the movie and hit the airplay button to move it to the apple TV, my iPad is still doing all the work of streaming the movie.  Why can't the apple TV take over the heavy work at this point?  I'd like to be able to use my iPad as more of a remote with an awesome interface for the apple TV.  The netflix app on iPad is great, and the easiest way to browse movies, and pushing them to the apple TV is fantastic, but once the movie starts, I want to use my iPad for other things!!!  Can this be put on the "to do" list for devs?

Have you tried the Remote app on iPhone/iPad to control AppleTV, do searches etc?  Should be easier than the remote alone and this does not involve Airplay.
Please note, only users read/comment here  - your idea is quite sensible in my view (maybe have a 'Continue viewing on AppleTV' option or something.  I doubt this would be high on Apple's roadmap but send them feedback here:

  • Why would aperture load more than once?

I understand that when I first load my RAW photos into Aperture it needs to generate a preview and so that's why it slows down and shows me "loading...". If I want to bypass this I can use quick preview mode. That's how I understood it so far. But I don't understand why it would need to load again at a later time? If I browse elsewhere and come back to this project, it'll start loading again. Does Aperture for some reason deletes the preview?

    1) How do I force aperture to generate preview for everything, and not one by one. I'd rather go away and let the computer do its thing for a while than get disturbed every time I hop to the next photo.
You can select all images in the Browser and use the command "Photos > Update/Generate Previews" (Update will turn into "Generate", if hold down the ⌥ alt/options key). This way you can generate the previews over night.
    2) Also this still doesn't explain why it needs to be done more than once? Why would it generate the preview again if I haven't changed any adjustments etc?
It will only keep and store the preview permanently, if you have enabled the sharing of previews in the "Preferences > Preview" tab. If you do not enable this, Aperture will not store the previews, to save space.

  • I'm using a 1D Arrary with 27 different elements and would like to send those data over UDP Write and UDP Read functions.

I'm using a 1D array with 27 different elements. I would like to transfer that data over a UDP connection, and read it back by using UDP connections.
But I would like to read 3 elements at a time (On read side) and send those to 9 different ports.
Note: the data will go to only one PC with one Network Address)
    * 1st elements (0,1,2) and send to port #XXX to see those 1st 3 elements.
    * continue until the elements reaches up to 27
This is what I have done but I'm finding myself in pitfalls...
    Send side:
I'm using a UDP Open connection on send side to send my data. So with selected a Source Port, I have created a UDP Op
en connection. Im using only one source port to send all the data across the channel. I would like to read 1st 3 elements and send those data across with an assigned Destination port. I would like to do that for 9 times b/c there are 27 elements in the array. So Im using a For Loop and setting N count to 9. So Im not getting any errors when I execute and no answer on the other side at all.
    Read side:
Im using a UDP Open connection to read in the data with port #. Im using while loop to with Boolean inside by making a true all the time. Inside that While loop, Im using For Loop to read the 3 elements data a time and send to a right port address. (As start out I was just trying to see if it works for only one port).

You are not getting any errors because UDP is a connectionless protocol. It does not care if anyone receives it. Your example will work fine with the following considerations.
    (1) Don't use the generic broadcast address (255.255.255.255).
    (2) You are listening on port 30000. So why are you sending to port 1502, nobody will receive anything there.
The destination port of the outgoing connection must match the server port of the listener. (The source port is irrelevant, set ot to zero and the system will use a free ephemeral port).
    (3) On the receiving side, you are not indexing on the received string, thus you only retain the last received element. Then you place the indicator outside the while loop where it never gets updated. :-(
    (4) Do yourself a favor and don't micromanage how the data is sent across. Just take the entire array, flatten it to string, send it across, receive it, unflatten back to array, and get on with the task.
(You can do the same with any kind of data).
I have modified your VI with some reasonable default values (destination IP = 127.0.0.1 (localhost)), thus you can run both on the same PC for testing "as is". Just run the "read" first, then every time you run "send", new data will be received.

  • Why would Shape Builder not allow Selecting (for a join)?

(As background . . . I ran through Terry White's excellent "10 things" for Illustrator video.  I even built the Yin-Yang symbol myself, from scratch, after watching his video.  So "I have" succeeded at least once in using Shape Builder.)
But, when I attempt to do . . . pretty much anything of my own design . . . I get stuck within the first minute and just have to quit and walk away.  I appologize in advance if anything sounds bad . . . I'm FULLY MAXED OUT on both anger and frustration.  Its just inconsolably frustrating how easy it is to get into a "mode" that . . . won't let you go any further.
Imagine drawing a cross.  (Like if you took real 4" x 4"'s and made a physical one, and then traced the outline around that.)
I thought I'd draw one long vertical rectangle.
Then draw an overlapping shorter horizontal rectangle.
Then join the two together in Shape Builder so its one "bounded box" with no interior "crossing lines" in the central join.
I drew the two rectangles.  Even got them centered vertically using the align button.
I select the Shape Builder and . . . . am immediately hopelessly stuck in one of two modes that won't let me continue further.
#1 (From a fresh "web" document) . . . I hover over the vertical beam (cross hatch appears, and the "+" appears because I'm in Shape Builder Add mode) and . . . cross hatch won't appear as I drag over the horizontal crossbeam.
Or . . . click (and hold) on the crossbeam . . . same thing . . . cross hatch appears, the "+" is there and . . . as I drag to the vertical beam to join . . . it won't go to crosshatch.
    Or  . . .
#2 (When I was originally trying to add this as part of a larger board) . . . I drew the same two rectangles, then upon choosing Shape Builder . . . I get an Arrow and a Circle with a Slash through it and am not allowed to select anything.
And can't find any sign, in any panel, of any "mode" I'm in (or not in) that would account for why selection is blocked.
I wasn't on the wrong layer (there is only one).
I've tried it (#1) from a new fresh drawing, and (#2) from inside a larger drawing (where I actually need it).
It takes less than 30 seconds from start to . . . . hopelessly blocked from proceeding.
Why wouldn't Shape Builder allow two pieces to join?
Why would Shape Builder show "not allowed to select"?
    Thanks,
    jkh

See, I'm in Shape Builder . . . Cross Hatch appears.
(Its probably too small on the image, but trust me . . . there is a "+" by the arrow.)
It was so simple on the Yin-Yang Cirle to Teardrop join . . . this is an EVEN SIMPLER image and . . . I'm stuck at step 1.

  • Eclipse - Why is it such a popular choice over NetBeans?

I've been a Java developer for about 5 years, and for the first 2.5 years the only IDE I used was NetBeans. Since then, in practically every other Java job I've had, the developers all seem to prefer Eclipse over NetBeans, and I can't understand why. Moving from NetBeans to Eclipse was painful for me for the following reasons (among others).
    - In Eclipse, you can't point and scroll, you have to click to set focus first. NetBeans is sensitive to your mouse movement, so you can scroll through your package list, then your code editor window, without unnecessary clicking to set the focus to what you're pointing at. It may seem like a small issue until you get used to having it and then go without it. Then it seems like a ridiculous oversight on the part of Eclipse.
    - In Eclipse, if you do a search for usages of the method myObject.toString() (highlight toString(), right-click, References -> Project), it finds all usages of Object.toString() instead of myObject.toString(). So 95% of your search results are totally worthless.
    - Eclipse has a bad habit of getting out of sync with the file system, causing searches to fail until you refresh the workspace. What's that about?
    - Eclipse Search has a bad habit of looking into binary files for results. I'm developing Java code, so I need to search Java code, not .class files!
    - Eclipse annoyingly replaces your source tabs, as opposed to opening new ones, when you open a new source file by double-clicking a search result. If you can navigate the trainwreck layout that is Eclipse Preferences, you might find where you can turn this behavior off.
    - F3 and Shift + F3 represent find next and find previous, practically everywhere else in the world except Eclipse. This is also configurable in Eclipse Preferences, but should be defaulted to this out of the box.
Of course NetBeans has a few of its own annoyances, I'm not saying it's perfect or anything. But the only way I've seen Eclipse being superior to NetBeans has to do with the SVN plugin, and Eclipse can't even take credit for that. So I just don't understand why so many people seem to be on the Eclipse bandwagon when NetBeans is at least equivalent if not superior in every way as far as I can tell.

    BinaryDigit wrote:
Thank you. I also noticed that NetBeans is a resource hog compared to Eclipse, so that's one major benefit. Also, Eclipse has a way to do things like automatically define serialVersionUID in several files at once using the Quick Fix feature, but NetBeans doesn't seem to have any such thing. Those are the things I'm asking about - significant differences that would compel someone to prefer Eclipse over NB.Those are minor differences. How on earth is automatically defining the serialVersionUID a significant difference?
Besides, once you've installed enough plugins, Eclipse is quite the memory hog too.

I came to Eclipse from Visual Age 4 Java and NetBeans has never impressed me. Now IntelliJ IDEA, that's another story.
I'd like to learn more about what the big attraction to Eclipse is. I figure I must be missing something.Well, your story started out as "I've been using NetBeans and Eclipse is different".
