Wide screen laptop screen when connected to projecter

There are no problems to make them work together, however, only one resolution can be set.
My laptop has a resolution of 1280X800, when I set the resolution to fit laptop screen, the image shrinked on the projector, if I set it as 1024X768, projector can work ok (though still a little bit deformed), but the laptop screen image became 1024X768, either.
I googled a lot, it seems no way to set resolution for laptop and projector separately so far (even I set it as extended destop).
I am going to make a presentation wednesday, it is less possible for my to edit my xorg.conf there. Any suggestions are highly welcomed!
Also i heard projectors work better at 800x600 resolution. then my laptop in that reslution is not so good.

To get right at the OP's question:

You can do
xrandr --output LVDS1 --mode 1280x800 --primary \
--output VGA1 --mode 1024x768 --above LVDS1
This should give you the modes you want in "extended desktop" mode.  The "--primary" option is entirely optional; in my case it keeps my task/infobar on my laptop screen.  The "--above ..." can also be several other positions (or even exact coordinates).  The LVDS1 and VGA1 may have to change for your machine, but I think these are fairly standard.
Have you tried a command like this and had any problems?

Suddenly, for no apparent reason, my laptop to which I have synced my Iphone for over a year is crashing when connecting my phone to sync. I have a 3gs running OS 4.3 and Itunes is up to date. When I first got the phone, I had to disable the built in webcam on the laptop in order to prevent this same problem but it has been working fine since.
I have updated all the drivers but to no avail. Anyone else having this problem?

  • Windows gives Blue screen of death when connect ipod

I have an ipod 20g and everytime i connect it to my 2.0 usb windows freezes gives me a blue screen and restarts

same problem here, also with a 20gb ipod. Mine also shuts the PC down on a disconnect of the ipod as well although this is less frequent.

  • N97, blue screen of death when connected to PC

I recently had my phone in to have the touch screen fixed. Today I tried to connect it to my PC using the USB for the first time since getting it back, after adding a few music albums to the mass storage I keep getting the blue screen of death on my computer.
Now I have checked for any PC related problems but have found nothing that could be causing this apart from the phone.
Has anyone had this problem or know of a solution?

Not had the problem, but assuming your phone is in PC Suite mode, try removing all nokia/ovi software and re-installing the latest version. If in Mass Storage mode, can't see how phone can affect computer, it's just and external hard drive and shouldn't be any different to plugging in a usb memory stick !
Also it could be pure coincidence and your computer may have just developed a fault ?
    Good Luck

  • 6th gen iPod Nano screen turns white when connected

I just got my replacement Nano for the 1st gen Nano recall. I plug it in to sync and the screen is white. Sync finished and I unplug it. I remove the dock connector cable and the homescreen appears, but is almost in a mirror like state. The screen is in the correct orientation, but the letters are backwards and hitting the lets say radio app opens the music app scrolling down, scrolls up, etc. Sleep-wake fixes the issue. Plug it in again and does it again. Restore it. Doesn't fix it. Hard reset, doesn't fix it.
Playing with it a bit, it seems to be an issue with the dock connector. I wiggle the cable and the screen turns white or goes to that mirror like state until I sleep/wake it. Unplug it, screen goes white/ to mirror like state until completely unplugged. In any case, if I touch the cable and wiggle it, the screen goes between white and mirror state.
Will an Apple Store replace it or do I need to send it in since it was a replacement program?
    Thoughts?

You have 90 days warranty on your replacement Nano, see if you can visit an Apple Store or get it serviced.

  • Laptop freezes when connecting Power Adapter

Hi guys, I have an i7 Y560 Lenovo Everytime I connect my power adapter to the laptop the laptop just freezes. Alternatively if I boot up with the power cord attached the windows boots, but the login page never appears, I just get a black screen. I have to say that the laptop works perfectly fine on battery. My CPU and GPU temperatures are reported to be around 60C and 55C respectively. I have tried a different power adapter, no luck, so that power adapter is working. Another thing to note, when switched off, the battery is charging normally. I have opened my laptop and also cleaned it, and I'm in the process of replacing my DC jack just in case its shorting. Any other suggestions of what could be causing this ?  Specs:Lenovo Y560i7 720QM Processor4x2GB RAM - 8GB512GB SSD DriveWindows 7 ProfessionalLaptop Age: 2yrs 5 months

After some searching i found out what was preventing me from booting successfully
This thread here has the solution
    http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Y-U-V-Z-and-P-series/ideapad-y560-radeon-5730-black-screen-need-...
, apparently there are some problems with the power options/energy management, what ever. The computer would open and work fine (with the driver you gave me) if I open it running solely on the battery and not connected by the power cord. Everything seems normal
Graphically utilized softwares would run normally, the screen runs at native resolution etc.
However as soon as I plug in the power cord it would freeze (or perhaps refresh at less than 1Hz and then gradually completely freezes if that makes sense)
After looking at the instructions in that thread:-
i had to adjust the energy settings in windows. the mininmal performance is set to 100 percent for running with cable. if you set it to 5% like running on battery, it isnt crashing. perhaps this could be a solution to other having the black screen after windows logo.
    here's what to do:
boot in safe mode and adjust your energy settings for running with ac adapter. set the minimal performance to 5%"
so I got kinda confused here i assume he is talking about the processor power management settings
So running normally i set the minimum processor state to 5% for 'Plugged in' (All inside the high performance preset which i assume will be loaded at startup)I restarted with the powercord on, still got a black screen.
    So off to safemode,
"adjust your energy settings for running with ac adapter. set the minimal performance to 5%"
from what I can interpret, it seems like there's a specific option inside the minimum processor state ( on battery and plugged in)
however there is only one option (percentage) I think it's global for both.
    It is set to 5%.
I am just one step away....

  • Bad Screen Laptop Screen - showing blue lines instead of black

I have an old laptop HP Pavilion DV7-1448dx, the screen shows blue lines instead of black. I tried using TV as a monitor and it doesnt have any problem, it only shows on the laptop. I replaced the LCD screen with a brand new screen but it still shows the same problem. I attached the pictures of what my screen looks like. It only shows this on the black color and the others are ok. Pls help!

    @luv2travl ,
Hello and welcome to the HP support forum.  Thank you for posting about your display issue.
It sounds as if the RGB output of the graphics card has become a bit off in your case.  You have replaced the screen so the output that supplies the LCD from the graphics card is the issue.
As you stated on a VGA output to a TV it looks normal. Therefor it isnt the card totally having the problem.
Here is a link you can check out on display issues.
    Display Quality Issues
Here is a link to your systems Maintenance and Service guide as well.  One thing you may want to check is the actual cable that connects the screen to the motherboard.  This is the easiest and cheapest part to work with.
If you replace the connection cable from the motherboard to the monitor this may fix the issue.

  • Can the T61 w/ Adv. Mini Dock do dual-screen laptop screen + external monitor?

I am moving from a desktop to a laptop w/ docking station.
I want to be able to drop the T61 into the dock and go dual-screen with the lappy screen (usually holding outlook open) and say a 19" LCD. Is this possible?
Would the Intel X1300 support a 19" LCD res?
I am most likely going with a NVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M, but just in case I changed my mind.. I would like to know.

Yes - all the T61s here using the Advanced Mini-Dock (including mine) and they all support dual-screen.
We use 24" Monitors with a resolution of 1920 x 1200 32 Bit and it looks teriffic.
If you dock and undock a lot I'd recommend using the ThinkVantage Presentation Director to set up your screens.
I think the nVidia is worth it.
