Wider grouping capabilities

I mix a lot in audition, and its a bit of a pain when I want to group, lets say the drum tracks, and send them all to a bus. I have to change every output to the drumbus, which takes a lot of time. Sometimes I have over 70 tracks which all need to be grouped. So to speed up things a little I would like to see better grouping capabilities. For instance, selecting the right tracks all at once and then with one click route them to a group bus. Even collapsing a group would be a nice addition (for me). This would make the workflow much easier.

Heh, I thought I'd spelt it out... :) Say you want to put 10 tracks through a bus track. Instead of directing each to the bus, the bus track is deemed a folder track and the tracks to be sent to it are put into the folder en bloc - just indicate in the UI which is the last track to be included in the folder. In good implementations you can create folders within the folder - say all the cymbal mics could be in a sub folder of the drums folder. Or whatever.
Then you can set the overall level of the tracks in the folder in the top track, and put whatever FX you want into that track if you want to apply that effect to the lot.
Then of course one can have tracks acting as VCA tracks, but that's a whole other way of doing things.
To repeat, these are things which could be added to Audition, they're not yet there.
Personally I tend to stick to a stereo pair and thus the whole problem is avoided!

  • Photoshop CS5 - Compatibility issue with nested groups

I'm using Photoshop CS5 to create a multi-layered, group-heavy PSD. The final file is intended for public consumption, so, ideally, I'd like it to be accessible to as many users - and therefore compatible with as many versions of Photoshop - as possible.
However, I just tried to save the file, and was prompted with this message:
This document contains nested layer groups that may change in apprearance if opened in applications older than Photoshop CS5.
Opening the file in CS4 after the save confirmed that a few of the layer groups were indeed corrupt.
Can anyone shed any light on this?

It looks like you're the only person so far who's posted that particular message on the web anywhere!
Out of curiosity, do you have the Maximize PSD and PSB File Compatibility option set to Always in Edit - Preferences - File Handling?
I have no experience with nested groups, myself, but that setting comes to mind as being involved with the kind of compatibility you're hoping to accomplish.
I do know that nested group capabilities have been around since at least Photoshop CS2.

  • ACE Module Context Up to 8 Chain Groups

    Hi
I have and ACE with 8 chain groups, each with 8 certificates, what I need to do if I need another certificate?
This because the information in the document
The ACE supports the following certificate chain group capabilities:
•A chain group can contain up to eight certificate chains.
•Each context on the ACE can contain up to eight chain groups.
•The maximum size of a chain group is 16 KB.
    thanks for your help.

I do not need to match a specific URL. The application on the server does however. The server admin reports that connection is being refused as there is no URL included to match.
When setting this up as a one-arm config with source NAT everything works fine. Unfortunately, it is a requirement of the application that the client IP remain intact.

  • How to share a common calendar

I have stbeehive working with no issues, but I can't seem to find a solution to one of the things that I need a calendar for. I need to be able to view/add/edit entries across a wide group of people (all internal to Oracle) - and others need the same ability to add/edit/view in the same calendar. I'm looking for the same capabilities that I have in google calendar, where I can create multiple calendars, and make them available to others individually.
The use case that I'm trying to address is tracking marketing events for my region. These events could be initiated by me, or any one of a few dozen people - and I may or may not need to participate in the event.
In beehive people can subscribe to my calendar, but I believe that they see the aggregation of my multiple beehive calendars. I'm hoping to either be able to set up a group calendar (in a similar way that we do workspaces) and add administrators, viewers etc. Alternately I'd like to set up a calender that others can subscribe to that doesn't show my other calendar events - just those from this calendar.
    Any ideas?

You can create a new team workspace, which will have a calendar function as part of it and add in all the users into it.

  • The many benefits of the iLife 5 Suite are great.

I have read too many threads from those who choose to criticize the limits of the iLife products.
Someone recently complained that iMovie only had three audio tracks.
For at least 98% of the people using the product, this is one more than they would ever use.
Maybe it’s time we all review what the iLife suite of products are and what they offer. For about $50 (free with a new Mac) we get five great pieces of software with wide ranging capabilities.
The iLife suite is intended to be an entry level grouping of products designed to give the majority of individuals the ability to learn and use many different functions and capabilities the MAC computer has to offer.
By chance, and luck on our parts, it happens to be a set of extremely powerful tools approaching the professional level in most cases.
Example: iMovieHD is great for those individuals who want to process videos of family events such as ball games, birthday parties, a day at the beach, etc. It offers more than enough power to perform these many task and very efficiently I might add. I even use it for marketing events for selling land. Yes, it is sufficient for some commercial use.
But it was not designed for creating ‘Speilberg’ movies.
If that need exists then Apple also makes a very nice professional movie making software called Final Cut Pro.
The same goes for iDVD 5 which is tremendous for it’s intended use but can be had in a professional version called DVD Pro.
GarageBand2 has a big brother as well in Soundtrack Pro.
Is iLife perfect? Of course not - what is?
iPhoto, iTunes, iMovieHD, iDVD and Garage Band offer many features that cannot be found on other computers and at a very reasonable price. I will upgrade each time a new iLife suite is offered.
    Harold

I have recently used the iLife bundle to process footage on the 3rd birthday party of my friends' son (my first production). I used iMovie to edit the footage, added audio tracks from iTunes, dropped a few photos from iPhoto on the drop zones of iDVD, added a slideshow to the project as well. Boy, my friends were amazed when I played the DVD before them (they were not mac users).
With such limited effort one need to spend on it (time and money), the output iLife gives is, what Jobs likes to say in keynote, phenomenal.

    The questions are:
    - Is XMLP 5.6.2 in OeBS support XSLT 2.0 templates?
    - If it's true, what is the reason of getting the above error?

I took xdoparser.zip from EBS $JAVA_TOP and tried to do XSLT transformation locally using
    java -cp .;xdoparser.zip oracle.xdo.parser.v2.oraxsl %1 %2 %3
where %1 из source xml file, %2 - xslt file , %3 - resulting xml file
    and got the same error.
So it is not the error of XMLP, but the error of Oracle XSLT processor.
As far as I understood, in xdoparser.zip oracle.xdo.parser package is the same as oracle.xml.parser package from original Oracle XDK. The question is: what version of XDK XSLT processor xdoparser.zip corresponds to?

Welcome to this forum on Core J2EE Patterns by the Sun Java Center!
    CONTEXT:
This forum is intended for discussing the patterns from the Sun Java Center J2EE Pattern Catalog and other topics discussed in our book, Core J2EE Patterns.
We, the authors of the book, welcome you to this forum.
    WHO WE ARE:
We are Enterprise Java Architects from the Sun Java Center (SJC), which is the Java consulting organization of Sun Microsystems. We are a world-wide group of architects focusing on all consulting related to Java technologies.
Visit our web-site for more information on SJC:
    http://www.sun.com/service/sunps/jdc/index.html
    BACKGROUND:
Over the last few years, we at SJC have worked with our customers in architecting, designing, and implementing solutions on the J2EE platform. We have worked on documenting the J2EE patterns for over two years and released the patterns for public review in Beta form via the Java Developer Connection in May, 2001.
The beta version of the patterns is available online as The Sun Java Center J2EE Pattern Catalog at:
    http://developer.java.sun.com/developer/technicalArticles/J2EE/patterns/
Subsequent to the release, we received great feedback and comments from hundreds of reviewers. We then worked towards incorporating the feedback into the pattern documentation. One of the common comments was about the lack of code examples in the online documentation. The latest pattern documentation provides many code examples and incorporates all the feedback received so far.
    BOOK INFORMATION:
Core J2EE Patterns, the book, was released at JavaOne 2001 during June 4-9, and will be available in stores around the end of June 2001.
The book includes the complete updated Sun Java Center J2EE Pattern Catalog with 15 patterns covering these J2EE technologies: Java Server Pages (JSP), Servlets, Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB), and Java Message Service (JMS). In addition to the J2EE Pattern Catalog, the book also provides other chapters that discuss design considerations,
bad practices, and J2EE Refactorings. Example code is included for all patterns and strategies.

    Rajakannan,
There are numerous ways to implement a templating mechanism in support of the composite view pattern, included in the catalog as a presentation-tier pattern.
The goal is to avoid simply having monolithic views with all the formatting code embedded directly withing the view. If we have common subviews that are shared across several or more views then we end up with a copy-and-paste type of reuse...undesirable. So, modularity is one issue. Another major force when considering the Composite View pattern is that we may want to manage the layout of our pages and the content of our pages separately. We may have some logical regions defined, such as a search panel and main body, and a subview that plugs into those logical regions that map to a physical page (ie: x.jsp and y.jsp). We may then want to vary one independent of the other...ie: we may want to modify the layout of the page w/o changing the content and we may want to vary the content w/o touching the layout.
There are a number of implementation strategies that can be used to implement the Composite View pattern, ranging from relatively simple to much more sophisticated. We describe each in our book and include source code examples.
The example in the book that allows for supporting all the issues described above is implemented using the "Custom Tag View Management Strategy" and uses a tag library written by David Geary, that supports the Composite View pattern. The library is also included in David's new book, Adv. JavaServer Pages, Prentice Hall, 2001.
Again, it's simply one implementation and, as you mention, there are many different ways to implement this strategy.
    Thanks for your question,
    Dan

  • WLAN controller redundancy

We have a site with 3 controllers it's serveral miles between them. And have think about to deploy a N+1 solution. My question is if the controllers must have same RF group. I know they must have same mobility group!. Can you have several mobilty groups on one controller?

    Hi Klas,
    Have a look at this good doc for RRM Management. Hopefully this will clear things up;
In a scenario where multiple controllers are configured with the same RF Group Name, but their respective APs cannot hear each other's neighbor messages, two separate, top-level RF Groups are formed.
RF Grouping happens at the controller level. This means that once APs report information to their controllers on the other APs they hear, and the controllers to which those APs are connected, each respective WLC communicates directly with the other WLCs to form a system-wide grouping. Within a single system-wide group, or RF Group, many subsets of APs can have their RF parameters set independently of each other. For instance, consider a scenario where one central WLC has individual APs at remote sites. In this case, each AP has its RF parameters set separately of the others. While each AP belongs to the same controller RF Grouping, each individual AP in this example is in its own logical RF sub-Group.
APs each compile and maintain a list of up to 34 neighboring APs per radio. This list is then reported up to their respective controllers. Each WLC maintains a list of 24 neighbors per AP radio from the neighbor messages sent by each AP. Once at the controller level, this per-AP, per-radio neighbor list of up to 34 APs is pruned. The ten APs with the weakest signals are dropped. WLCs then forward each AP neighbor list up to the RF Group Leader, the WLC elected by the RF Group in order to perform all RRM configuration decision-making.
    From this good doc;
Radio Resource Management under Unified Wireless Networks
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk722/tk809/technologies_tech_note09186a008072c759.shtml
These are the Group settings available through the WLC GUI:
Group Mode The Group Mode setting allows RF Grouping to be disabled. When this feature is disabled, the WLC cannot group with other controllers in order to perform system-wide RRM functionality. Disabled, all RRM features are implemented locally on each controller. RF Grouping is enabled by default and the MAC addresses of other WLCs in the same RF Group are listed to the right of the Group Mode checkbox.
Group Update Interval The group update interval value indicates how often the RF Grouping algorithm is run. This is a display-only field and cannot be modified.
Group Leader This field displays the MAC Address of the WLC that is currently the RF Group Leader. Because RF Grouping is performed per-AP, per-radio, this value can be different for the 802.11a and 802.11b/g networks.
Is this controller a Group Leader When the controller is the RF Group Leader, the value of this field is yes. If the WLC is not the leader, the previous field indicates which WLC in the group is the leader.
Last Group Update The RF Grouping algorithm runs every 600 seconds (ten minutes). This field only indicates the time (in seconds) since the algorithm last ran and not necessarily the last time a new RF Group Leader was elected.
    Hope this helps!

  • Windows 10 Color management

    Hello,
I'm wondering if windows 10 will include a true color management ?
I use a wide gamut screen with and a monitor profiler in order to display right colors.
Currently, despite color management tab where you can choose the monitor's ICC profile, windows 7 and 8 do not take it into account and only few programs really do. It results in wrong colors display in the whole windows environnement especially for wide
    gamut monitors.
Has this point been improved in windows 10 ?

How would you suggest it should work in the general case?
The operating system is not currently informed of the color space of the original image data.  That's why the applications themselves must do it.
Now, that being said, it's deplorable that so few graphics applications actually DO do proper color-management, especially considering that there are free libraries that can even be built free of charge into commercial software (e.g., LittleCMS).
One thing Microsoft could do better in a heartbeat is have Internet Explorer embrace full color-management.  At the moment it only does half the job...  Specifically, it reads and processes color profiles in images and
transforms the colors to the sRGB color space but does NOT take into account the monitor profile
(and sadly, I just checked to see that this is still true with the experimental IE rendering engine).  Nor does it color-manage web page elements (e.g., things colored by HTML).  So far only FireFox does it properly, but even then you must
invoke an alternate color-management setting that's not the default.
There's some very good practical info about the problem here:
    http://www.gballard.net/psd/go_live_page_profile/embeddedJPEGprofiles.html
There are some who, in frustration and with monitors that are capable, actually deconfigure the wide gamut capabilities of their monitors and just run them as (accurate) sRGB monitors, so that more color will look more accurate in more
different applications.  That such settings are available in monitors is testament to how incomplete color-management is and how it's not getting any better.
In answer to my leading question, the "state of the art" (which hasn't changed in a very long time) COULD be made better by Microsoft providing the means for software to express the color space of its imagery to, say, the GPU so that basic color
management could be provided by the system at almost no cost to the application.  But this doesn't suit their "touch first" concept (have you noticed that tablets eschew color-management entirely?).
I'm glad to see another person here asking for better from Microsoft.  Keep it up!

  • Lens Recommendation

Looking for a lens that will allow fast shooting of sports photography, have the range for scenery at a distance, but yet have wide angle capabilities for reasonable close up pics.  I have a 70-200 F4/L IS, 55-250 F/4.0-5.6 L and the standard 18-55mm that comes with some ofthe older EOS models.
I find the 55-250 is not wide enough on the low end and soft on the longer zoom.    I would like a lens that can still shoot the sports photography and yet be capable of shooting close ups at wide angle.
    Any recommendations?

    cicopo wrote:
"Super-zooms compromise in optical quality to the point that you may as well just use a point & shoot camera -- you wont see the performance of DSLR capabiltities coming through when you use these lenses."
Sorry but I disagree BIG TIME. I get some pretty good shots from superzooms including consumer grade ones. DSLR's have very low shutter lag times, better AF systems & better view finders plus when shooting action they aren't usually held out in front watching the LCD so people are forced to use better technique.  Superzooms may not be perfect when compared to primes but they offer tremendous versatility and that's a big plus to a whole lot of amateur photographers.
Most zoom lenses tend to offer a zoom range which provides about a 3x magnification factor from the wide end to the narrow end.  A 24-70mm for example... 24 X 3 = 72 -- so that's about a 3x zoom.  A 70-200... 70 X 3 = 210... again about a 3x zoom.  A 3x zoom range is not so ambitious as to create lots of other problems.
When light passes through any single lens element, it bends (which is the whole point) but each wavelength component of the light bends at a different amount.  That means if you only had a single lens element, all the various colors of light would not actually come to focus at the same distance behind the lens.  A lens focused perfectly for "green" light would not also be in focus for the "reds" or "blues".
To counter this, you can use two lens elements arranged as an achromatic doublet -- which helps re-converge the chromatic dispersion problem -- but it's not perfect.  You can use apochromatic triplets to do a better job... and keep going with techniques to make a better image.
You can optimize this fairly well if you're just trying to create a single focal length.  If you're trying to cover lots of focal lengths, then it becomes a bit more complicated.   You can also control the issues better if the zoom doesn't try to be too ambitious about it's zoom range.  That's why I mentioned the 3x range.  Some slighlty more ambitous zooms may try to go to a 5x zoom range (e.g. a 55-250 would be an example).
And THEN you get the super-zooms.  These lenses go well beyond a 3x or even 5x range.   A 10x or 11x would not be unheard of and the 28-300 is an example of a lens that exceeds a 10x range.
It's difficult to provide a 10x range and still maintain good optical quality.
Keep in mind that we don't use most of the pixels we shoot.   You'd really need to blow up an image to 100% size such that you can see every pixel.
The chromatic dispersion is nearly non-existant along the central axis of a lens... and increases the farther away you are from the central axis (corners are worst).  The f-stop you are using also has a lot to do with things.  As the aperture gets smaller, the chromatic abberation problems are reduced and the image appears to get sharper... until you pass the point where diffraction comes into play (usually after you pass f/8 it starts going the other way).
If you go look at the MTF curve charts for the Canon EF 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6L IS USM lens... and then go look at the MTF curve charts for the Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6L IS USM ... the less-ambitious zoom is not just a little better... it's a LOT better.  And you'll find this comparison is pretty consistent.  You'll be hard-pressed to find an exception to it.  (you would need to a comparitively high-end super-zoom (like the Canon "L" series) and then compare it to a very low quality consumer-grade zoom to find an exception.)  The the greater the zoom range (when thought of as magnifciation factors) the more the lens is disadvantaged for being ambitious.
It's a fair generalization to say that super zooms... almost without regard to price tag (becuase the Canon EF 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6L IS USM is not an inexpensive lens) generally cannot compete with their less-ambitous siblings.
This is NOT to say that super-zooms have no place.  They can be tremendously useful.  You have to consider how an image will be used after it's exposed.  If you're publishing them on the web then it's actually very hard to tell the difference between a good lens and a fantastic lens because we don't use most of the pixels we capture. The image is down-sampled to a reasonable web-size and nobody gets to scrutinize the fine-detail.  If the image is going to be printed on very large size and hung in a gallery... you probably want to be fussier about the optical quality of the lens.

    This is the command :
    find ~/ -maxdepth 1 -type d -iname '*google*drive*' 2> /dev/null -exec rm -Rf {} \;
    rm -Rf ~/Library/Application\ Support/Google/Drive
I got it from this website http://www.knowitnot.com/2013/11/02/reset-google-drive-mac-os-x/
Please help me i really need the info that i lost

    find ~/ -maxdepth 1 -type d -iname '*google*drive*' 2> /dev/null -exec rm -Rf {} \;
    rm -Rf ~/Library/Application\ Support/Google/Drive
It is easier to start with the 2nd command.
'rm' is remove, as in delete. the files in ~ (your home folder) -> Library (a hidden file so people do not go messing in it) -> Applications Support -> Google ->Drive (which is where I assume some Google Drive information is typically stored.
The -f says remove the files without prompting.  The -R says recursive, so if the target folder (Drive) has any sub-folders, it will delete those as well, and keep walking down any additional sub-sub-sub-sub...folders until everything in "Drive" and under "Drive" is removed.
So rm -Rf is a very dangerous command, especially if the target directory is something high enough up in the directory tree.  There have been people that have followed posts on the web that deleted their entire file system with just one 10 character rm command.
The 'find' command will search the target folder and all sub-sub-sub...folders and using a huge array of selection options find files and allow other commands to operate on the found files.
The target folder was your home directory (~ is the Unix shortcut for your home folder).
The -maxdepth 1 say says stop at the current folder.  That is to say, do not look in any sub-folders.  A value of 2 would look in just the sub-folders under the target folder.  A value of 3 would go down another level, etc...  So -maxdepth 1 just looked for file in your home folder.
The -type d said select folders (d for directory, aka a folder).  So it ignored anything that was not a folder.
The -iname '*google*drive*' selected only folders that included "google" and "drive" in the name ignoring any upper/lower case differences.  So it was looking for your Google Drive folder in your home folder.
The 2> /dev/null told the Terminal shell to send any error messages to the null device (basically hiding any error messages that would be issued).
Now the fun part, as with the other rm command, the -exec rm -Rf {} \; deleted recursively all the files found by the 'find' command.  The -exec invokes the specified command (in this case rm -Rf) and substitutes the file name found for the {}, the \; is just to tell 'find' where the -exec command ends.
So 'find' found your Google Drive folder in your home folder, then removed it and anything inside of it.
Finally, the 'rm' command is final. There is no UnDo.  There is not Trash folder.  The file name is removed from the directory, the storage associated with the file is put on the file system free list, and the file is gone.  If another file needs storage, it will take that storage from the file system free list, and now the deleted file data is overwritten.  This is why a salvage recovery tool needs to be run as soon as possible after something like this happens to avoid stepping on the accidentally deleted files.  And even then it is often difficult to figure out if something on the free list is a file or just junk.
The only comfort I can give you is that, you have joined a wide group of Unix uses that have done similar things, populated by users with a lot more command line experience than you, but they still typed the wrong thing at the wrong time and lost valuable data.  The lucky ones had a backup, or were able to find another copy, such as checking if the Google Drive online site keeps deleted files for a few weeks, just in case.

  • Wiki your feedback?

    hi,
I am in a process to select a wiki software, While there is a lot of choice out there ,
I was interested by Leopard Wiki your feedback, easy of use, do you have any reference to a review....
It looks great from Apple web sites but info are limited though
    Thanks

Visit the [Free Wiki packages|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Freewikisoftware], and pick some candidate packages. I'd suggest looking for an active community around the package, for bug reporting and security mailing lists, stable, established, and at the add-ons and customizations and theming. Then look to see what prerequisite software is involved, and what the effort might be in installing, maintaining and upgrading the Wiki.
    [Here's another view|http://www.siteground.com/comparebestwiki.htm] on picking a Wiki.
Wikis that are protected behind a firewall are easier to deal with than open Wikis; allowing the world at a Wiki can be a maintenance and security issue. If you're running an external Wiki, look for reports of vulnerabilities to cross-site scripting and related database attacks, and responses to same from the maintainer(s) of the Wiki.
If you want to configure and basically ignore the Wiki, the Leopard Wiki is probably going to be tough to ignore. Apple then gets to deal with critical security issues, etc., through the existing downloads mechanism for updates.
Other potential options you can consider include the Wiki capabilities and the organic groups capabilities available in various of the web content management systems; classic content management systems are getting quite powerful. Locally, I use [Drupal|http://www.drupal.org], and Drupal can provide organic and Wiki capabilities (and many other add-on modules), and the Drupal embedded syntax is generally straight HTML.

  • I want to restrict my window sizes.

I've worked on Macs that, if I try to drag a Finder window around, I can only move the top-left corner to the edge of the screen and not off of it. And if I us th resize corner, it will only allow me to move it to the top of the Dock and to the edge of my row of desktop icons. I like that. I like it to be within exactly those parameter, but with my new MacBook, I am able to make the window as large as the screen itself (minus the menu bar) and drag it off of the screen to the left, right, and bottom. Is there a way to restrict this?

    Greetings!
Firstly you should consider removing domain users from local administrators group on each PC. As long as they are local admins you will have problems regarding to software installation, changing configuration and etc. After all you can refer to this link
    for more information:
Control MMC Usage by Using Domain-Wide Group Policy
To make it short you can use this to restrict to MMC snap ins:
    Policy\User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Microsoft Management Console.
    Regards.
