Widget confusion

These widgets seem to be very useful, but I'm slightly confused about what they are, exactly and what standard they adhere to, if any.
Do they conform to a generic widget standard that can be used with any widget framework in a platform-independent way? Or are iWeb's Widgets specific to iWeb?
Also, if I wanted to make my own iWeb widget, where should I look?
Thanks!

none and no.
Or are iWeb's Widgets specific to iWeb?
yes, they are very specific to iweb... iweb widgets are special kind of folder/bundle, they have instruction/directive for iweb to recognize them (while in iweb) and add code to the page when publish.
Also, if I wanted to make my own iWeb widget, where should I look?
the first place you should look is 'HTML Snippet' widget.
as with iweb themes and templates, every iweb widget is controlled by an XML file, XML schema is the way to decode XML, and only iweb sw engineers know this schema.
as of now, there is no instructions, tutorials, tips and tricks or tools to build iweb widgets.
but you can use Dashcode (OSX Dashboard widget tool) to create iweb widgets.
give them feedback and ask for tools to make widgets:
http://www.apple.com/feedback/iweb.html
if you like to make your own iweb3 widgets, you should look into:
XML and inside iweb.app
and to build anything meaningful, you should look into: HTML, javascript, css and DOM.
I'd built many iweb3 widgets with the above method:

  • Widget Fonts Improperly Display as Outlines

    I've recently upgraded the OS on my 24" Intel iMac from 10.4.11 to 10.5.6. One of the side effects has been that the font faces on all of my Dashboard widgets display as fuzzy outlines. The body of the characters are empty/transparent. This makes reading text and labels on the widgets difficult or impossible.
    Any thoughts about how to cure this? Is there a preference file to be trashed?
    Thanks,
    Mark

    Hello.
    As I described above, the widgets use the Helvetica Neue Bold font (in .dfont format) that ships with the OS. The problem for me was that the widgets were incorrectly calling the Postscript version of Helvetica Neue Bold Outline that I had installed along with the rest of the Postscript version of the Helvetica Neue family.
    I can't explain the reason for the widgets' confusion. My solution was to open FontBook and disable Helvetica Neue Bold Outline, while allowing the rest of the Helvetica Neue family to remain activated.

  • Install muse widget from Extension Manager to Muse CC 2014?

    I've downloaded a widget, double clicked it, and installed it into Adobe Extension Manager... Now what? It shows up as an extension but there is on Muse in the products listing on the left. I've tried re-starting Muse, AEM and the computer but still no widget in Muse?!?!?!?!

    Just went through this with Muse-Themes widgets.
    After you go through the instructions.
    Here what Adobe fails to tell you, right now.
    I kicked up a stink so this may become common knowledge.
    Open Muse and at the bottom of the "Library" window NOT Widgets.
    click on the add "Library" NOT a widget.
    Look in the download folder that the .zxp file was downloaded to.
    Look for a the same name as the .zpx file but with a .mulib ext and add it.
    You now have a new Widget, confused so was I.
    Hope this helps I chewed through two pair of Canadian wooly socks to figure this out.

  • Scrolling is pain :-(

    Hi SAP/ SDN,
    could you please include the minimize icon for the detailed level navigation of SDN, so that we can avoid scrolling atleast horizontally.
    it is availble by default installation of portal, but why did SDN implementation remove it.
    please consider this as scrolling horizontally is really a pain, i guess not only for me
    Thanks

    Hi RK,
    NW04, the platform we are running SDN on, does provide a widget and feature to collapse the left hand side. This would disable the need to horizontally scroll.
    However SAP User Management Experience group is doing a lot of user testing and research with SAP's applications. They are setting cohesive UX standards across our applications. Although our situation is a little different because we needed to pay attention to web standards as well. (even though, of course, we are using the biggest application of all. ) we can learn from their experiences and advice.
    The Left Nav Collapse widget confused us when we first saw it. We investigated the use of this functionality on the web and could not find an example of it anywhere.
    - the interaction is not intuitive because it hasn't been seen online very often (if at all)
    - the images used in the NW04 portal application are misleading
    - when a user makes a mistake and clicks on it, it is hard to recover from because they may not have realized what happpened. this is a real danger with introducing new functionality to the web.
    Meanwhile if you take a stroll through the global top 500 sites (including microsoft.com) you'll see that most sites with left navigation areas are fixed (aka non-collapsible) thus there is not a clear industry standard established for hiding/showing them based on the most frequently used web sites.
    http://www.alexa.com/site/ds/top_500
    In Microsoft OS, panels like this (such as Help) are typically opened by selecting from the function menus across the top of the screen (or keyboard shortcuts) then collapsed (hidden) by clicking the [ x ] widget. Thus no standard hide/show toggle widget.
    On our Corporate Portal, we find all the widgets questionable in terms of usefulness, usability, and semantic expression.
    [ + ] [ - ] Typically represent the zoom up/down functionality in most familiar desktop apps -- thus are a gross/confusing misrepresentation in the Portal. These two symbols are also used in a toggle widget in a tree control to reveal/hide hierarchical information.
    [ x ] means "close" a window NOT "collapse" a panel as misused in the Portal.
    > is generally used as a toggle widget to reveal subordinate hierarchical information. It's also been used gratuitously to represent all kinds of other functionality which has made the semantic of this symbol very ambiguous to users and typically doesn't test well for usability.
    We are looking into the possiblity to create our own widget, so we can test it with some users and then implement it to remove the need for horizontal scrolling.
    Kind regards
    Marco

  • Confusing documentation for Validation Select widget

    On the website
    http://livedocs.adobe.com/en_US/Spry/1.4/index.html
    there's a page titled "Validation Select widget overview and
    structure." The article is confusing because the example is a
    pull-down menu of states, e.g., Alabama, Alaska, etc. But then
    "states" also means valid, invalid, required value, etc. This
    double meaning makes the documentation difficult to understand. The
    documentation should use an example of, for example, cities or
    countries.
    Also this widget has name different names. In Dreamweaver
    it's called "Spry Select." But on
    http://livedocs.adobe.com/en_US/Spry/1.4/index.html
    it's called "Validation Select." Both names are misleading, it
    should be called "Pull-Down Menu Validation."

    Hi Daniel,
    Im having the same problem, can you please tell me what you did? I understand you found the problem?
    Thank you!

  • Newbie's confusion about Widgets

    Hi everyone, I just made a website by DW CS3. It's my first time to use it and I have found a application called Adobe Widget Browser. There're really many fascinating widgets in it.How can I apply them into my website? Taking into consideration CSS or else? I'm a newbie so I just want to know how to apply these widgets,as simple as possible, as effective as possible. Thank you.

    I really appreciate your help. After months' struggle , I still find it hard to copy the relevant contents to my DW code editing page and visual editing page.
    Lots of reference have been checked, and code correcter tells me some minor mistake or, if code is right, whole visual effect is far from satisfactory,still.
    It's my poor fundational konwledge of WEB language that cause the problem. I think it's easy for others, but me not.
    My computer is performing in Windows 7, and I use Dream Weaver CS3 to creat sites.
    qoute      "Now its just time for some manual labor and copy and past the just generated contents to the website / page of you choice ( don't forget to copy the required folders and dependencies as well )"
    More detail?                I consider it right to copy some related content respectively to ...uh...  head  ... body.....or something. Coping directly as a whole will cause problem that I can't describe.     I really apologize for my stiky situation and delayed reply.

  • Hi, I'm trying to download widgets for dashboard. Seems every widget I try either says it can't find the server or says it can't install because its from an unknown developer. It's on the apple site so I'm a little confused. I've tried like 15.

    So does anyone know or have the same issue. It seems a little odd.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
    When you download a widget, you are getting a message telling you that it's not from an identified developer. This message is caused by Gatekeeper > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5290?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US You can fix this issue by two ways:
    1. Right-click the widget and choose "Open".
    2. Open System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General, and tick "Anywhere" under "Allow applications downloaded from"

  • How can I use an anchor to show a specific panel in a widget?

    I'd like to use a hyperlink from one page to show a specific panel in another page. I did get it to 'somewhat' work when I placed the anchor on the tab of the presentation widget panel I wanted displayed, but it also scrolled the page down to that tab, which hid half the page. Might be confusing to users as it was confusing to me. I then moved it to the top of the widget panel, which didn't work at all - unless I clicked the tab of the panel. Then it scrolled the page to the point where the anchor was placed. Not cool.
    Is there a way to attach an anchor to a page and have it display a specific panel in a widget, without scrolling the page? Or another way to define the page in the widget (if not using an anchor) to send the user to that page in the widget? What I'm hoping is I can either place anchors to widget panels on the page (and not let the page show) or use some other method to take users to that page & panel without using anchors.
    I could, I suppose, move the content out of panels and into seperate pages, but I don't want to cry 'uncle' just yet.
    Suggestions? Solutions? My inquiring mind wants to know!

    I'm afraid that it is not possible at this point of time in Muse. I would recommend that you add this to the ideas section over here, http://forums.adobe.com/community/muse/ideas
    Workaround: Create different pages, each with a tabbed pannel containing a different first tab and then link the hyperlinks to the appropriate page.

    Adding to osgood's reply, you are calling four different jquery libraries as in

    <script type="text/javascript" src=

      <oa:widget wid="2559022" binding="#slideshow_1" />
      <oa:widget wid="2827522" binding="#OAWidget" />
    </oa:widgets>
    -->
    </script>
    <script src="http://code.jquery.com/jquery-1.10.2.min.js"></script>
    <script src="http://vindsters.nl/main slide js/jquery-1.6.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script>

    <script src="http://vindsters.nl/gevonden door js/jquery-1.7.2.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
    This will confuse the browser no end!
    My advice is to remove the last three highlighted lines to see what happens.

  • How can i get browse sequence widgets to follow hyperlinks instead of TOC?

    I've created a screen layout based on the standard desktop layout and am using the default browse sequence (back, next) widget buttons included with the layout. Our topics include a number of hyperlinks to other help topics - for example, a dialog box overview topic might include a link to a how to topic for that dialog. I would like the browse sequence buttons to follow the hyperlink paths to the previous and next topics viewed. Right now, they instead go to the previous and next topics in the TOC. Is there a way to modify the properties of the buttons to follow the hyperlinks instead?
    Thanks for your help!

    I think you are confusing Previous and Next in a browse sequence with Previous and Next as in path followed by the user.
    A browse sequence is not necessarily the next item in a TOC. It is whatever you set up, TOC order is a default.
    You can have path followed Previous and Next in addition using javascript methods. You will find solutions posted in these forums.

  • IBooks Author: How do you get the inset margins applied to the caption text of gallery widgets to preview correctly?

    Currently the inset margins I set for caption text in the gallery widget reset to zero when previewed on different iPads. These galleries have multiple images and the captions are set to "individual caption per image" on the widget interaction panel. BUT the inset margins preview correctly if the gallery caption is set to "same caption for all images" in the gallery widget interaction panel. How does one fix this in iBooks Author? Would appreciate any advice or work arounds or suggestions.
    Thanks!

    The arrows don't show up on the iPad, they are only to aid navigation within iBA. You can use boxes in the background to frame your galleries (as the background is off). I believe it's also possible to change the colour of the dots beneath the gallery too, although I forget how to do that right now.
    About Apple's rigid UX – I agree that it can be frustrating. Apple intended iBA to be used by everyone, and the sort of design options and customisability we might want may confuse the less experienced user. Apple also wanted the UI for every book to be the same – from the point of view of the new user, once you've used one iBA ebook (or iBook, I'm not sure what Apple want us to call it), you can use them all. Otherwise end users would to get used to a slightly different UI on each book, which kind of works against the idea that ideally UI should be intuitive enough to be invisible. I can see the point in that. I have created a 'How to use' section in every iBA file I've made. It get's old quickly.
    Oh, and (you probably know this, but…) you can choose your own custom icon for audio. It's limited, as it's only a placeholder image that allows you to play an audio file, there's no ability to pause the audio or stop it once you choose the view as thumbnail choice. Something I'd like to see changed.
    Here's a link to Apple feedback page for iBA. Feel free to hammer it with your suggestions.

  • Aperture (2.1.1.) - iWeb cannot find the Aperture Gallery in the web widget

    Hi all,
    I think this is not really related to MobileMe's current problems, as it shows alright on the web:
    If I publish a Web Album to MM (and I think it was the same issue with .Mac but am not sure), everythings working fine upload wise.
    Only if I want to include the Web Album in iWeb with the help of the Web-Widget tool, Aperture Web-Galleries do not show up.
    iPhoto works fine, what's published to MM there shows up on the iWeb widget menu (if not password protected)
    Does anyone experience the same? is that 'normal' or is there a work-around?
    Cheers
    Greg

    The workaround for this is to turn your Aperture galleries ( ie, albums) into iPhoto galleries, at least temporarily. You can do this online, once you are logged into your actual .me account (http://www.me.com/gallery/#home). Select an album, choose the Settings button at the top of the page ( a button with "light switches" graphic on it ), change the "Syncs with:" option to iPhoto and Ok. Then launch iWeb and you should find the gallery listed there. Once you publish the site, you should be ok to set the album settings back to Aperture. +(Haven't double checked this yet ...)+
    *Note 1:*
    If you don't see the Syncs with option, then hold down the 'shift' key when you click on the Settings.
    Then it will show.
    *Note 2:*
    Folks are confusing the web gallery albums that are showing up in the intra-app media browser (just images are accessed here) and the insert gallery menu item (entire gallery inserted). Easy mistake but they are different functions.

  • Bad user experience/errors with Adobe Air widget installation

    I'm having a nervous breakdown at work (it's 10pm and I'm
    still in the office), an Adobe Air widget application I've built is
    somehow causing the client to panic (they can't install or run the
    Adobe Air installation or the widget and now they feel all their
    users are having the same problem). If anyone has a minute to try
    this out and let me know if the widget installs correctly of if you
    have any recommendations on a better user experience I'll greatly
    appreciate it. The client is receiving an error message when
    installing Adobe Air (error 0 or something).
    widget is on the bottom left (installs for PC and Mac). If
    the widget installs without any glitches please let me know. God
    bless.
    http://stayonhermind.com

    The application installed just fine for me. I'm running
    Windows XP SP2 and I already have AIR 1.1 runtime installed.
    I do have a few suggestions for improvement though! Just take
    or leave any or all of these! :)
    In your popup you say,
    "Before installing the 9IX Rules Widget verify that
    you’re running the latest version of Adobe Flash."
    Is this really a necessary requirement? If you are
    downloading the .air I think it would not matter whether or not you
    have Flash installed.
    Then you say,
    "After installing Adobe Air (link below), return to this page
    and re-install the 9IX Rules Widget. Install Adobe Air Now .
    Otherwise click on the button below (the widget install button)."
    I understand you are trying to make this easy for people but
    to me this seems confusing.
    <GENERAL AIR COMMENT>
    If someone does not have AIR runtime already installed I
    thought running a .air would trigger the download and install. If
    not this gets pretty complicated. How do you test if they have AIR
    or not? And since most will not at this early stage how dow we
    educate end-users to even know if they have it or not?
    </GENERAL AIR COMMENT>
    You should digitally sign your AIR app so it does not say
    Publisher: UNKNOWN with the big red "?" icon!
    I would recommend against using all caps in your messages.
    I would recommend choosing a better font (maybe a pixel font)
    since the message text is a bit blurry.

  • Live Corners Widget is missing in new download of AI 2014 x64

    I did not know a built in Widget could go missing in a app but here I am...
    I just downloaded most of the creative Cloud Apps just yesterday after a system crash, after which I wiped the drives including Users (Windows 7.1+ all updated and fresh.  Just got working in AI tonight and went for the live corner Widget and ,  and,..., It had disappeared.  No windows>Panel options,  Nothing in all references, tool bars, or content menus-with the sole exception of View/Hide Live Corners.  I clicked it back and forth: hide/show, hide-show, hide-show, nothing worked. (It was working just fine in the "Pre-Crash" install but in this install it is just--gone.  Is there a way to extract the component from the downloaded file and replace what is KO'ed in this install. Or should I re-install?. I  have been around computers for-jeep 1/4 century, so no need  the beginner, "did you plug it in yet?  kind of stuff. Unless-- I  forgot?  Every thing else is working just fine?

    DBellas,
    It may be time for the list, 6) being the ultimate one.
    The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file (you may have tried/done some of them already); 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
    1) Close down Illy and open again;
    2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to 3 times);
    3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
    4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
    5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
    Even more seriously, you may:
    6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.
