WIFI HOTSPOT FUNCTION

I recently purchased a BB 9720. I see there is a WIFI hotspot funtion that I can use to so that other devices in my home can connect to it via wifi.
Does it use the data from the Blackberry Internet Server or from my service provider?
Regards,

From service provider.... unfortunately...

  • Looking for a WiFi printer that will work with my Nexus WiFi hotspot

On a recommendation, we have bought an Epson NX530 WiFi-enabled printer.  It does not work with the WiFi hotspot feature of my Galaxy Nexus.  The support tech at Epson suggested that we get a WiFi router rather than trying to use the Galaxy Nexus.  I told her that I would rather trash the NX530 and get a printer that would work with my phone.
    So we have 3 questions:
    1) does anyone know how to make an Epson NX530 work via the Galaxy Nexus hotspot?
    2) does anyone know of a different WiFi enabled printer that works with the Galaxy Nexus?
    3) does anyone know if the Galaxy Nexus is inherently unable to work with any WiFi printer?
    Thanks,
    Craig

This website should be able to assist you.  http://www.galaxynexusforum.com/forum/galaxy-nexus-help/8520-wifi-printing.html   I use an app called Printhand from the Google Play Store for my Android tablet and smart phones. I have a Canon  Pixima 3220 that functions great. I also have a higher end HP Envy D410a that also works great with printhand.  The Canon is cheap at BJ's at $40 when I bought it. The HP is about $269 at Staples and other outlets.  Good Luck

  • How do i creat a wifi hotspot from my iPad 4

My iPad 4 does not give me the option to creat a wifi hotspot, and theres no wifi tethering option  aswell ! it is LTE enabled and my cellular data is enabled what can I do to fix this ? please if anyone can help ?

Does your carrier support the personal hotspot function (some only support it on iPhones), and are you on the correct tariff with them ? If they do and you are then you should have a Settings > General > Cellular > Personal Hotspot option

  • PopUp window at public wifi hotspots?

If I connect to a public wifi hotspot I get a popup window where the landing page from the operator is shown (captive portal). How can this be managed? Because the window is closed after the login there is no chance to get the session window for logout etc. from the service provider.
    Thanks.

I run a number of wifi hotspots, all of which use a captive portal "Splash Page" that is branded per location.
Since the iOS6 update I have been swamped with guests and customers complaining about this www.apple.com "success" page popping up instead of the intended customers login and terms acceptance page. When cancelling it drops the wifi router connection and there is no way to connect to the intended free wifi hotspot.
The problem is in Apple's update, there currently is no way to disable this unwanted feature.
The solution is to go to your Settings>General>Cellular>Cellular Data and turn it OFF when you are at the hotspot location.
Now when you choose the hotspot's SSID and join it......you will get the sign in page from the captive portal and not the "success" page.
Be sure and turn the Cellular Data back on.....when you leave the hotspot.
Apple needs to fix this WISPr function, I am only a small provider and I am sure that worldwide there are going to be hundreds of thousands of iphone, ipad and laptop users who will no longer be able to sign on at wifi hotspots, work, universities, hospitals and hotels.
As a side note: I have an older 4S phone with iOS6 and I cannot join.....my wife has a newer 4S phone with iOS6 installed and even though both our phones are set exactly the same......she can connect without turning off her cellular data and I cannot.   Curious?

  • IPhone OS 3 doesn't want me to login to WiFi hotspots anymore (autologin)

    Hi all,
After upgrading to iPhone OS 3, login to my WiFi hotspots doesn't work anymore.
Any help would be much appreciated as this renders my WiFi useless...
    What happens is:
As soon as I try to connect to a hotspot, iPhone OS 3 pops up a web form to type in username and password.
However, most of the hotspots I use do not have the fields for entering this directly on the login page - but first some links to click on (to decided whether to use WiFi on pay-per-use, pre-paid, customer account basis etc.).
When I tap on one of these links, the page is meant to open a new browser window (pop-up).
However, iPhone OS 3's login page seems to disable that.
When I tap and hold such a link, it asks whether to open JavaScript, if I click on yes - nothing happens yet again.
If I click on cancel, OS 3 assumes I just don't want to use WiFi anymore and will disassociate itself from that particular hotspot.
Stupid! I can't open Safari and log into the hotspot as before (it worked perfectly with the older OS version).
Is there any workaround? Or does OS 3 really render so many hotspots useless?
Many thanks in advance for any info!
    Kind regards,
    Frank

    Hello there, mbrda92.
The following Knowledge Base article provides some great, in-depth steps for troubleshooting your issue:
    iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2802
    Particularly of note:
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIsand corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

  • Handoff and WiFi Hotspot not supported using iOS 8.1

I have recently downloaded Yosemite, which I understand was supported on my iMac i5 late 2009. Unfortunately a number of features, do not seem to be supported, namely Handoff and WiFi Hotspot. I have diligently followed the instructions, but they are not activated by my iMac. Can someone tell me, whether this is purely, a function of the age of my iMac or something that I may be doing wrong. Are there any other iMac i5 late 2009 users, who have got these features to work? If so, how?

    http://www.apple.com/osx/how-to-upgrade/
    Handoff and Instant Hotspot
Supported by the following Mac models:
    MacBook Air (2012 or newer)
    MacBook Pro (2012 or newer)
    iMac (2012 or newer)
    Mac mini (2012 or newer)
    Mac Pro (Late 2013)
Handoff requires an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with a Lightning connector and iOS 8.

  • IPhone as wifi hotspot?

Often I'd like to use my laptop when I'm travelling. If my iPhone can connect to the Internet, why should I buy another device & subscription for that laptop... I'd like to use that iPhone as my own hotspot.
Is this possible? Eg the iPhone connects over UMTS/HSDPA/GPRS to the Internet, and functions as a bridge. Eg creates a local wifi hotspot. Or allows the laptop via bluetooth to connect to the internet...
Any ideas? is this out there already?
    Best regards,
    Simon

Tethering (using the iPhone as a cellular modem) is supported by the iPhone, but also requires that _your carrier support iPhone tethering_. Some carriers do, others do not. Unfortunately, according to the kbase article linked below, T-Mobile in the Netherlands does not support tethering.

  • Personal WIFI Hotspot and Download Speed

I am using an iPhone 4 as WIFI hotspot and realized that the download speed on my MacBook (which is connected via Wifi to the iPhone) drops from 7,2 to 3,6 MBit/s as soon as the iPhone switches to stand by mode (becomes locked). When I re-activate (unlock) the iPhone the speed immediately increases to 7,2 Mbit/s again.
    Is this a known bug?

Not working correctly means in this case that it doesn't work at all.  I do have it activated through my carrier.  I do have it "turned on".  I do have the correct password typed into my lap top when trying to access the wifi.  The laptop recognizes that my iphone is broadcasting internet.  The laptop will go through the motions of acting like it wants to hook up through the wifi of my iphone but cannot.  It tells me in the end that the connection failed.  Before syncing with itunes, I was able to access the internet throught the wifi hotspot on my iphone4.  Since syncing with itunes, this function no longer works as described above.

  • WiFi HotSpot Connection

    Dear BlackBerry Community
I have had my BBTorch 9800 OS6 over a year now which is a fantastic phone which compliments any work I undertake, as I do use my phone as a modem.
I find that at times I may have to text but this puts pressure on the connection plugs, when connected to the PC.
I have been trying to find a BB App which contains a WiFi Hotspot connector, one where I do not have to put pressure of the components of both my BB phone and PC.
I understand the Torch 9810 carries this application as standard, can this application be installed on the Torch 9800 but also found in our BlackBerry App World.
Any info concerning this will be much appreciated.
    Yours Sincerely

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hello,
    Please refer to this KB:
KB31857 How to setup and manage a Mobile Hotspot Connection
The hotspot function is limited to 1) your carrier allowing such and 2) having OS 7.1 on your BB. HotSpot is not an add-on app available via any means other than meeting those two contingencies.
    Good luck!

  • Come on Nokia, why no built in wifi Hotspot ?

Why is it that even budget Android smartphones have a wifi hotspot feature built in and Nokia Belle does not?
Before some troll points it out, I KNOW that I can buy a third party app to provide this function but to me that is nowhere near as good as built-in and manufacturer supported.
I understand that the N9 has the function (Joiku) app presinstalled but looking at the other posts on here for that phone it seems that its not really a 'proper' hotspot, and does not always work well.  I just ordered a C5-03 for my other half and was very close to choosing an Android phone just because of the ease of use of the wifi hotspot feature for her.
So interested to hear your comments. Maybe if many people here agree with me then someone at Nokia will notice, and we will all see a wifi hotspot feature in future editions of Symbian ^3
Now running a 701, beautiful phone to handle and use...now that it has stopped sending my personal information to Nokia via 360Panel [rolls eyes]

Haven't installed a host file addition yet then?
That blocks your computer from accessing the "crap" of the internet.
    You need these things:
1: A free copy of TextWrangler from BareBones
    2: TextEdit open
3: Select all copy everything on this page (bookmark it)
    http://winhelp2002.mvps.org/hosts.txt
4: Paste into Text Edit and remove the lines
    127.0.0.1  localhost
    ::1  localhost #[IPv6]
5: Do a find and replace for all instances of 127.0.0.1 and replace with 0.0.0.0
    6: Select all and copy
7: Open TextWrangler and file by name /etc/hosts
Do not touch what you see there, just add some spaces at the bottom and paste
8: Save the file with your Admin password
Done, you have just blocked the crap of the Internet
9: update just that portion you added every couple of months from the same source.
note: the file is designed for Windows, so all you want is the sites to block to work with Mac,
    like
    127.0.0.1  fr.a2dfp.net
also because of a glitch you need to change 127.0.0.1 to 0.0.0.0 to work with OS X better.
anything with a "#" in front means to "ignore this line" to the computer, so those lines are safe to copy and use.

  • HT204409 Option of wifi hotspot connect has been disappear in my setting of iphone 4, can somebody help ?

Hi, My iphone 4 has deleted somehow the function of wifi hotspot in settings. Can somebody help to get it back. It happens a few days ago automatically.

Thanks for replying. I did what you said. Restored from iTunes. Then set up as new iPhone. No luck. Still can't connect to my time capsule network. Before I restored, I backed up her iPhone to computer, I'm going to restore from back up if possible because my wife had a bunch of stuff on her phone. I hope for my sake I can get it back.  Also, it's really weird because her phone was working fine with my airport express network. I replaced the AE with the time capsule and now it doesn't work.

  • Is hotspot functionality a service upgrade?

When trying to activate hot spot on Galaxy s iii, we are directed to call about our plan.
Is hotspot functionality seperate from data plan? If so, what is required to access the hotspot function?
    Thanks,

    http://techcrunch.com/2012/07/31/verizon-can-no-longer-charge-for-tethering-fcc-declares/
Verizon has been slapped with a $1.25 million fine for charging customers to use their cell phones as a mobile Internet hotspot, and has declared that it must allow tethering for free. Google must also reinstate tethering applications from its Android store, which Verizon had asked them to remove.
This ruling only applies to the non-unlimited plans.
You pay for a certain amount of data per month, VZW has no say on how that data is used.

  • How can i use "phone relay" on a iPad mini over iPhone created wifi hotspot?

How can i use "phone relay" on a iPad mini over iPhone created wifi hotspot?
It works nicely over home wifi, but for example, i am sitting in my car, phone is in my pocket and I'm using the iPad, call comes in and i don't want to start digging for my phone.
    Is there any way?
    devices:
iPad mini cellular (no SIM card at the moment)
    iPhone 5S
    Thanks!

well yes, but it basically makes wifi for the other devices, it basically mimics wifi.
as i get from your answer, it is not possible?
it would be common sense to make it work this way also. directly from device to device. no bounce between WiFi router
Then again, common sense is not that common these days...
