Wiki Admin Settings Permissions have no effect on access to calendars

I have created a Wiki with a group calendar.
After choosing Settings on the Wiki and navigating to Permissions I have set the following:
Private : This wiki can be read and edited by only the following users and groups
In the following box I have entered StaffGroup Read only and Myself Read and write
Admins : Myself
Comments : Authenticated Users
Moderation : None
Then click Save
The problem is that anyone in the StaffGroup can modify the calendar (either from the webcalendar or from iCal) even though they are set to read only, and it appears that anyone in the StaffGroup can also create new wikis in the group.
What do I need to do to cause the permissions to be effective and stop people in the StaffGroup from changing calendar events?
Thanks,
Stephen

I did check and re-check the groups and permissions, and everything looks as it should.
I went back today and explicitly denied permission to all POSIX entries except for admin, and left all of the ACL permissions exactly the same. The permissions now finally work as I expect them to (which is odd, because with this same exact configuration in the past, nobody had any access).
Still not sure exactly why this is fixed now, but for anyone curious, the only two things that are different this time around are:
1. Updated to the latest version of the OS (10.6.5 - 10.6.7)
2. I changed the permissions from an entirely different portion of the Server Admin interface. I used to go Server Name > File Sharing > Share Points. This time I changed the permissions by going to Server Name/SMB > Share Points > Share Points

I'm using a pc, (windows 8.1,) and I cannot get a thick and thin line with CS6. I want to draw, but I cannot get any linework like I should. I also use Sketchbook Pro, and ToonBoom, and I get wonderful linework. But not with Photoshop.

    Thanks for your response,

  • Include Develop settings in metadata have no effect

    Hi.
I've just discovered that option in the "Catalog Settings -> Include Develop settings in metadata inside JPEG, TIFF and PSD files" have no effect.
I tested this with JPEG and TIFF inside LR 3.3 RC1, but it looks like this issue is present even in LR 2.x too.
No matter what you option is, develop settings are always included into the XMP.
I have exported the same image with this option on and off and they are binary equal except creation date in the XMP.
Develop settings are always there, no matter what you have selected in options.

This is sounding like normal behaviour.  It should only apply when writing metadata back to original files.
The 'include Develop settings in XMP' checkbox dates back to the early days when ACR was just starting to be able to process rendered files.  It was automatically opening any rendered files into the ACR dialog if there were Develop settings found in the metadata.  The checkbox prevented those settings being written to those originals so that you could open directly into PS and bypass the dialog, and additional options have since been added to the Camera Raw preferences in Bridge/PS to allow you to use or ignore those settings too.
Once the files are being exported, there's a line in the metadata that says <crs:AlreadyApplied>True</crs:AlreadyApplied> which prevents those Develop settings being applied again.
If you want to exclude Develop settings from exported files, you can either check the 'minimize embedded metadata' checkbox in the Export dialog to remove all metadata, or use Jeffrey's Metadata Wrangler plug-in to specify which metadata to exclude.

Any one have link on how to revert to 2.2.1 firmware on a mac? Also I have appointment with BMW on Wednesday next week so will first wait for that to see if they have fix before reverting. Anyone else heard from or tried to contact BMW service? Also I do have a clear work around that works with my 1st gen touch 32gig. Turn off car. Disconnect pod, turn off pod(hold down top button then slide it to off when it comes up with option to turn off). Then Turn on car and turn on pod not connected to car. Make sure car is on something other than aux like fm is what I use. Then once pod is on connect it to cars ipod connector. Now switch to aux and it should work....may have to hit usb as option...(every once and a while mine requires it). Now the bad news. Every-time you turn off car you have to do this again when you turn it on again (so remember to disconnect pod before turning on car). Let me know if anyone else finds this to work with their ipod touch please. Good luck - still surprised there is not more mention of this problem on the web cant believe that a lot of BMW users dont also have ipod touches for use in their car.

  • Keyboard Backlight Settings have no effect vaio Control Center

I have a Sony laptop, model SVE14A35CXH, and my backlit keyboard does work, it's just that the settings in Vaio Control Center, under Keyboard Backlight, the settings for that have no effect on the actual keyboard backlight. I make the setting to never turn on, for both on battery and plugged in, the keyboard still comes on when a key is pressed. I change the setting to turn on in low light, turn off after 60 seconds, it always turns off after 15.  Any time I change the backlight settings, the actual keyboard backlight always turns on in low light conditions, and always turns off after 15 seconds if a key is not pressed. The settings have no effect on what the backlight does. Help would be appreciated.

    Hi Derp-Derpinson,
Are you using a retail version of Windows? You mentioned before that you did a complete fresh install of Windows 8. Please follow the troubleshooting guidelines below:
Power Cycle - remove the battery and all peripherals -> press and hold the power button for 5 seconds. This will drain the electricity of the unit. Check again the backlight.
    Reset BIOS.
Make sure that these drivers are installed or updated: (Sony® Firmware Extension Parser Device Driver, Sony® Shared Library, Hotkey Utilities). You may go to eSupport to download the drivers.
You may also reinstall Vaio Control Center.
    Hope these work.

  • Granting an admin write permissions on admin shares through GPO

    Hello,
I am currently faced with the challenge of domain admins not being able to write to a folder on the C: drive through admin share. We have an application that requires write permissions on the Windows folder in C: but each time the admin account assigned
for this task tries to write to the Windows folder, an access denied error pops up or the "you do not have permission" error.
Please note that the domain admin is a member of the local admins on all machines in the network too but still fails to write on the specified folder and generally drive C:
How can I grant this domain admin account to have the write permissions please. Anyone?
    Thanks

    Hi,
If a user account belong to local Administrators account, when only Administrators group has permission on a folder, all admins except Administrator account will not have permission to access it.
This is because all accounts in local Administrators group are working as standard accounts. When an Administrator action need to be performed, a prompt will occurs for permission to promote to admin permission. As only Administartors group has permission on
a folder and the account we are using is working like a standard account, we will be denied from accessing.
A workaround is to create a new group for all admins and give the group enough permission for accessing the target folder.
Or you could run all accounts in Administartors group in Admin mode. See this article:

  • Is ther a way to speed up a Mac? Mine has gotten slower and slower over time.  When memory comes close to full would that have an effect on performance? Is there a way to determine unused programs/software to remove and free space?

Is there a way to speed up a Mac (similar to de-fragging on a PC)? Mine has gotten slower and slower over time.
When memory/disc comes close to full would that have an effect on performance? How should I determine what programs/software to remove and free space?

Things You Can Do To Resolve Slow Downs
If your computer seems to be running slower here are some things you can do:
    Start with visits to:     OS X Maintenance - MacAttorney;
                                      The X Lab: The X-FAQs;
                                      The Safe Mac » Mac Performance Guide;
                                      The Safe Mac » The myth of the dirty Mac;
                                      Mac maintenance Quick Assist.
Boot into Safe Mode then repair your hard drive and permissions:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions Pre-Lion
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
    Repair the Hard Drive - Lion/Mountain Lion/Mavericks
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the Utilites Menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD disk icon and click on the arrow button below.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. If no errors are reported, then click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
Restart your computer normally and see if this has helped any. Next do some maintenance:
For situations Disk Utility cannot handle the best third-party utility is Disk Warrior;  DW only fixes problems with the disk directory, but most disk problems are caused by directory corruption; Disk Warrior 4.x is now Intel Mac compatible.
Note: Alsoft ships DW on a bootable DVD that will startup Macs running Snow Leopard or earlier. It cannot start Macs that came with Lion or later pre-installed, however, DW will work on those models.
    Suggestions for OS X Maintenance
OS X performs certain maintenance functions that are scheduled to occur on a daily, weekly, or monthly period. The maintenance scripts run in the early AM only if the computer is turned on 24/7 (no sleep.) If this isn't the case, then an excellent solution is to download and install a shareware utility such as Macaroni, JAW PseudoAnacron, or Anacron that will automate the maintenance activity regardless of whether the computer is turned off or asleep.  Dependence upon third-party utilities to run the periodic maintenance scripts was significantly reduced since Tiger.  These utilities have limited or no functionality with Snow Leopard or later and should not be installed.
OS X automatically defragments files less than 20 MBs in size, so unless you have a disk full of very large files there's little need for defragmenting the hard drive.
    Helpful Links Regarding Malware Protection
An excellent link to read is Tom Reed's Mac Malware Guide.
Also, visit The XLab FAQs and read Detecting and avoiding malware and spyware.
    See these Apple articles:

If you require anti-virus protection I recommend using VirusBarrier Express 1.1.6 or Dr.Web Light both from the App Store. They're both free, and since they're from the App Store, they won't destabilize the system. (Thank you to Thomas Reed for these recommendations.)
    Troubleshooting Applications
I recommend downloading a utility such as TinkerTool System, OnyX, Mavericks Cache Cleaner, or Cocktail that you can use for removing old log files and archives, clearing caches, etc. Corrupted cache, log, or temporary files can cause application or OS X crashes as well as kernel panics.
If you have Snow Leopard or Leopard, then for similar repairs install the freeware utility Applejack.  If you cannot start up in OS X, you may be able to start in single-user mode from which you can run Applejack to do a whole set of repair and maintenance routines from the command line.  Note that AppleJack 1.5 is required for Leopard. AppleJack 1.6 is compatible with Snow Leopard. Applejack does not work with Lion and later.
    Basic Backup
For some people Time Machine will be more than adequate. Time Machine is part of OS X. There are two components:
    1. A Time Machine preferences panel as part of System Preferences;
    2. A Time Machine application located in the Applications folder. It is
used to manage backups and to restore backups. Time Machine
requires a backup drive that is at least twice the capacity of the
        drive being backed up.
Alternatively, get an external drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
      1. Carbon Copy Cloner
      2. Get Backup
      3. Deja Vu
      4. SuperDuper!
      5. Synk Pro
      6. Tri-Backup
Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on backup and restore.  Also read How to Back Up and Restore Your Files. For help with using Time Machine visit Pondini's Time Machine FAQ for help with all things Time Machine.
Referenced software can be found at MacUpdate.
    Additional Hints
Be sure you have an adequate amount of RAM installed for the number of applications you run concurrently. Be sure you leave a minimum of 10% of the hard drive's capacity as free space.
Add more RAM. If your computer has less than 2 GBs of RAM and you are using OS X Leopard or later, then you can do with more RAM. Snow Leopard and Lion work much better with 4 GBs of RAM than their system minimums. The more concurrent applications you tend to use the more RAM you should have.
Always maintain at least 15 GBs or 10% of your hard drive's capacity as free space, whichever is greater. OS X is frequently accessing your hard drive, so providing adequate free space will keep things from slowing down.
Check for applications that may be hogging the CPU:
    Pre-Mavericks
Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder.  Select All Processes from the Processes dropdown menu.  Click twice on the CPU% column header to display in descending order.  If you find a process using a large amount of CPU time (>=70,) then select the process and click on the Quit icon in the toolbar.  Click on the Force Quit button to kill the process.  See if that helps.  Be sure to note the name of the runaway process so you can track down the cause of the problem.
    Mavericks and later
Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder.  Select All Processes from the View menu.  Click on the CPU tab in the toolbar.
Often this problem occurs because of a corrupted cache or preferences file or an attempt to write to a corrupted log file.

Does the Flashback malware have an effect on OS X systems without java installed? Just asking since i do not have java installed...

It's not likely, but better safe than sorry. See

Visit Thomas Reed's site for insight and help: Mac Malware Guide
A Google search can reveal a variety of alternatives on how the remove the trojan should your computer get infected. This can get you started. However, be careful about what you do as new variants of the malware circumvent the efforts of earlier tools.
Also see Apple's article About Flashback malware.
Apple has released Java updates for Snow Leopard and Lion users:
Java for OS X Lion 2012-003; available only for users of Lion with Java installed.
Java for Mac OS X 10.6 Update 8; available only for users of Snow Leopard.
Flashback malware removal tool; available only for users of Lion without Java installed.
Install whichever shows up in Software Update. It removes the malware (if present), updates Java (if present) and tightens up Java settings for the future.  You may download from Apple's web site instead of using Software Update, but it's important to know which one to get, because the other two won't work for you.

    Hi Joseph_SQL,
The following operating systems limit the overuse of elevated permissions by removing administrator permissions when accessing applications: Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows 8.1, Windows 8, Windows Server 2012, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows 7, Windows Server
    2008 and Windows Vista.
Because the noted operating systems limit permissions, members of the local Administrators group run most applications as if they are using the Standard User account. To avoid open Report Manager in Internet Explorer always using Run as administrator option,
we can refer to the following configuration steps:
Add Reporting Services URLs to trusted sites.
    Report Manager Folder Settings
    Report Manager Site Settings
For more details about how to configure the settings, please refer to the following article:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb630430(v=sql.110).aspx. After finishing the configuration, we can re-open Report Manager in Internet Explorer without using
    Run as administrator.
    Hope this helps.

  • Why I don't have backdrop effect in my photo booth?

I just brought my new iMac and I open photo booth. There were only 2 pages of effect. Why I don't have backdrop effect in my photo booth?

An iNtel Mac is required to use backgrounds (backdrops.)
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iChat/4.0/en/18522.html (5th bullet)
If your "new" iMac is an iNtel Mac, one of the following may help you:
    (1) Does the problem persist after you have restarted your Mac?
    (2) If so, repair permissions and test to see if the problem persists afterward. (If you need help, launch your Mac's Disk Utility and search Help for "Repairing disk permissions".)
    (3) If the problem continues, download and install the Mac OS X 10.5.6 Combo Update:
After the restart that completes the Combo Update installation, repair permissions again. Then check again to see if the problem continues.
    (4) If you still have the problem, you can follow the instructions in your iMac's User Guide (Manual) for reinstalling your applications software. Repair permissions after the install and check to see if you have a fix.
    (5) If all else fails, contact your retailer for assistance to get your new iMac working properly.

  • How do I repair admin account permissions in OS 10.6.8?

An attempted installation of the the Canon XF Plugin for Final Cut Pro 1.3 has failed (stopped before installing) showing an Error = 1. The folks at Canon pro support say this is a Mac OS error, and recommended that I need to repair my admin account permissions. They suggested the following:
    1. Enable a "root user"
    2. Repair permissions under the root user account
    3. Login under admin account (hopefully now repaired) and attempt plugin installation again
Has this happened to any other FCP users and does this sound like the right process?
Is there a support article that documents the first two steps above or do I need to do this over the phone with Mac Customer Care?
Thanks in advance for everyone's advice!
    Joseph

No, that error code has nothing to do with permissions. It may mean your system installation has some dysfunction. If the above doesn't fix things, then reinstall Snow Leopard:
Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
    Do the following:
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install the Combo Updater for the version you prefer from support.apple.com/downloads/.

  • Bulk size seems to have no effect

    Hi folks,
Any idea why bulk size setting of a mapping seems not to have any effect?
My settings are as adviced in the documentation:
    Bulk size: 1000 (default)
    Default Operating Mode: Row based
    Bulk processing code: selected
    Source database (remote) Oracle 8.1
Target database & OWB database 10gR2
Nevertheless when I execute a mapping TOAD doesn't show me any row count until the whole table has been loaded. As I've understood the load should be done in parts of 1000 rows, right? Could it be that a database setting prevents bulk size parameter to work like it should?
    Thanks,
    Ilmari

    Hi there,
the script generated contained the elements you mentioned David, thanks.
I was trying to commit every 1000 rows and to process approximately 10M rows.
Wasn't able to solve it, it still doesn't commit in the meantime. However, probably some database parameters were changed and it doesn't end in an error. So not solved, but somehow got past it. Not ideal, but works.
    BR,
    Ilmari

  • 11g Catalog Permissions not taking effect

I am having an issue with the selected permissions not taking effect as they should. The major issue with this is that users that have been assigned to application roles that are assigned the 'Open' permission type are able to delete that same folder. Basically users that are only supposed to view objects in a folder now have access to delete that entire folder, despite inheriting application roles that have been set to only open that folder. This is only occurring at the Shared Folders level of the catalog, so as you can tell this could be a major issue if a user was to accidentally delete the entire shared folder structure. Further down in the catalog tree the permissions are acting properly. We have a folder with all of our GL reports that is secured in the same fashion, and the permissions work as intended there.
Is it possible that there is some kind of root level permission that is overriding what we have set up at the Shared Folders' permission level?

How are you packaging the files? If you use a .zip archive, the copies created when they unzip the archive should have the correct permissions.
And by the way, repairing permissions won't do anything with items in a user account.

  • SPA525G2 unable to access admin settings

    Hi,
I'm unable to access the admin settings of a new spa525g2 phone, when trying http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/admin I get 403 Forbidden and the admin link on the gui does not appear. After a few seconds after booting the it is no more possible to acces the gui through the web access.

Reset the phone as shown here on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pq3jYvzTlJc
    Should do the trick.
Be warned this should wipe your phone back to the factory defaults and you will have to setup your phone again from scratch!

  • New admin settings

when I open up safari, I can not right click to customise the toolbar.
I have restarted the MBP, I wave selected the MBP to default to start on my account, and then choose logoff and log on to the other two accounts.
