Wiki - or even better a script - to create a PKGbuild from a PPA

i would like to test Conky manager, it is available for Ubuntu, and still not in AUR.
I said to myself, lets contribute with my first PKGbuild, but, I did not found a guide at Google, not at ARCH wiki too, at least not easily - perhaps it does exist but i did not found it quickly.
But perhaps it even would be easy if someone has just write an script to make and test PKGbuilds from PPAs, it must be simple if you know - I do not - and would save a lot of work.

Try searching the wiki a little more closely. On a related note, man pages > wiki. `man PKGBUILD`
As for scripts to create PKGBUILDs; that's a bit meta, don't you think? Why not just take a look at some of the PKGBUILDs in the AUR that use .debs or PPAs and go from there.
This probably belongs better in the PKGBUILD request subforum; but the way this should work is that you should give your best shot at creating a PKGBUILD, and then, when you get stumped, post what you have so far, and we'll all help you work out the kinks

A script to create a script!

Are there are template scripts available which, when run, can create and save a new script application from some lines in the original script?
When the script runs I want it to open a dialog asking for some text and then create a new script using some included lines from itself and insert the typed text in a relevant are and then save that new script as an application.
A bit vague know, thanks for any help.

Thanks to all of you for some excellent starting points. I'm going to have a go with these and see if I can start to get them to do the first stage of what I want to do.
Its a bit ambitious and most probably not going to be very practical. At the moment its more of a proof or concept than a really useful tool, but I hoped that it could be ironed out to be of use to some people. This is what its for:
In Avid non linear editor systems (Media Composer / Xpress Pro etc) there is a tool called Script editor - this is not a computer scripting tool, rather its a build in text display to show an actual film / tv script.
You drag clips from the bins and attach them to the relevant parts of the text. As the film is gradually shot and loaded, eventually you have a full script with all the slates and takes attached to their corresponding section. This makes checking back and finding certain takes very useful at all stages of the edit.
Ok, so if you got that, here's what I actually want to do! Final Cut Pro does not have such a tool, nor does it have any scripting support. However I have done a small test to see what would happen if I linked a small AppleScript to a section of text in TextEdit. The script contained a keystroke set of commands to activate FCP, check the media browser is active, bring up the search tool, type in the slate name (e.g 12-2 (for slate 12, take 2)) and then when the clip is found its loaded into the FCP Viewer.
It actually worked very well and achieves essentially the same job, but in this form its completely unpractical as it takes too long to make and tie each applescript into the TextEdit doc.
The next step (using your excellent scripts as starting points) is to have the user simply be able to go through the text document, highlight the section they want to link to a clip to, then run a small applescript from the Dock. It will ask what clip name to attach (e.g. 12-2 (this is the dialogue bit)) then it would save this text into a new script (with the keystroke commands) to a dedicated folder (perhaps at the route of the drive) and then attach this file to the text in TextEdit.
There are lots of pitfalls here I realize and its unlikely it can ever be very elegant because it has to use GUI scripting, but I do think that if it worked then really its not much effort for an editor to go through a script in TextEdit, finding the points you want to link clips to and by simply running one applescript and entering a bit of text, you end up with a text file full of clickable links. The rest is hidden away from the user.
The main issues are the number of tasks the first applescript has to perform and I'm starting to think it would be better just to have one script which can be linked to each section of text, but when it runs it looks at what it was attached to and searches for that text instead. So you would type in the clip names directly to the text doc and link that text instead of a section.
There are also issues with FCP's search as it has no feedback so the delay factor would have to be universally set to allow for longer searches in large projects.
I use an Avid in my day job and we have been using the build in Script tool a lot recently and I was thinking it would be nice to have something similar in FCP. I can't program and there is no available add-on support in FCP anyway, but I have used AppleScripts with GUI scripting commands before to automate tasks in FCP. I wondered if it would be possible and I sort of set myself the challenge. In hindsight I'm unlikely to achieve it, but it will be fun trying!!

Simple shell script to create linkedClones on stand alone ESXi host.

Last few days I have been working on creating linkedClones in bulk for some of the testing purpose. Since I did not had my vCenter up and running so I spend few minutes to write a simple script to create a linkClones on standalone ESX host.
My script create full clone of given VM, then creates snapshot on it and starts creating linkedClones from the delta vmdk files (it just create new directory for linkedClone VM's and copies those delta files to new location and then point it to base disk, nothing magic here ).
Now this script is working perfectly fine for me, and I can power on all the VM's which is pointing to base disk. Later I tried creating linkedClones using vCenter API's as well which seems to be doing the similar thing.
So I just want to check with you guys if my script is Ok or thats not the way to do it (this may be unsupported way of creating linkedClones but I just want a way to create linkedClones on standalone esxi host as I may not have vCenter server available everytime) ?

As long as your softsynths comes in the VSTi format (most of them do now), you can insert it on a track in Audition, which has 'host' capabilities from V3.
In the Multitrack, insert a new MIDI track from the 'Insert' menu (note: MIDI Track, not just 'MIDI').
On that track pane hit the 'Sequencer' button, and it will open in a separate window. In the pane left of the keyboard you can insert your VSTi of choice, and make your MIDI connections.
Back on the Main track pane, engage the 'L' button for Live monitoring. Actual recording (of MIDI) is done in the Sequencer window.
The usual, and recommended workflow is to keep the MIDI tracks 'open', i.e. you can edit the sound in your instrument and even the notes played at any time in the process, compiling the actual audio as the last step in the mixing.
If you kind of 'insist' on doing it the old way, you can export the audio from your recorded MIDI+VSTi creations track by track like this: Leave the Sequencer window open, make a selection in the multitrack that covers the time span you have played. Solo the track (will mute all others), and use File / Export Audio Mixdown. Use 'Master' as the source. This will give you a wave rendering of what's currently in the MIDI sequencer. Qualitywise this is better since it's all internal and digital instead of in/out of soundcards with DA/AD conversion etc.
I haven't found a method for a 'live' wave recording while you play, but there may be one...
If you purchase Audition it comes with Help files explaining this in more/better detail. ;)

Hel with modifying cs5/6 script...create anchored frames from text

I have one great time saver script for cs5 for create anchored frames from text tagged with/or charachter style/paragraph style. This work in cs6 but have some "bugs" for me. Script need to be compatible with InDesign CS6.
1. script in original (look bellow) create text frame which is fitted to lenght of the text. I make change and change 466 line:
AnchoredTextFrame.fit(FitOptions.FRAME_TO_CONTENT);
now frame is wide as I write in check box, good. But frame not resize to lenght of the text so I add after above lines 466-470:

2. One "bug". For some reason script alter paragraph style of other text which is not subject to be cutted in anchored frame.
How to resolve this?

Анализируя недочеты скрипта в данной его версии были исправлены ошибки и внесены
функциональные дополнения исходя из понимания задачи автором модификации. Добавлена
возможность выбора стилей, если они они находятся в группах (папках), возможность выбора
единиц измерения из выпадающего списка, изменены GREP-выражения для поиска текста,

Hi Cari,
I did create a new user account (admin level) and InDesign works like a charm.
When I went back to the other account, plug-ins gone, I deleted the prefs and caches, restarted and still everything is crashing as before.
At least I am working on one account and I will contiue to troubleshoot on the other account. And at some point either the new account will crash or the old account will work and I will go from there.

ITunes made even better

iTunes can be made even better with the addition of Pass Through, a feature available in Photoshop, but a feature that can be created in iTunes to successfully incorporate iTunes into a successful sound management application for the over all operating system itself, OS X 10.6.1 Snow Leopard needs to mature and develop some teeth. What I mean by that is, that when I run another application like EYE TV for example and the bass isn't performing as it should, I should be able to go to iTunes and hit the Pass Through button and iTunes becomes my apple computers full service equalizer and allows me to adjust the sound effects for my over all Apple computer. This extra feature can be set in the system preferences for sound to sync up iTunes with the computers sound system. This feature should already be a standard feature. If not, simply add an equalizer to the sound preferences to better produce a quality sound over all. Please all of you Apple technicians consider this request.

One thing that stands out as being undesirable as far as best practices go is that you are placing code on objects (using the on() approach). The proper approach is to assign instance names to your interactive objects and use them to place all of your code on the timeline where it is readily visible. In doing so you may just find that alot of the code you show can be modularized into functions that can be shared by different objects rather than having each one carrying a full load on its back. You may find you can pass arguments to shared functions that make the same functions capable of supporting interactions with different objects
Your on(press) call performs an unnecessary conditional test. If you change the condition to be if (project._currentframe != 25) you can avoid this.
In your on(rollOver) call's set of conditionals, you have some lines that repeat in each condition, so they can be moved to the end outside the conditionals.
Your on(release) call has the same issue as your on(press) call. Also the overrun use of the _parent target is an indication that most of the code in this call would likely serve you better sitting in the _parent timeline, and your button could just call that function

OVM 3 CLI Script to create VMs

Hi, I am hoping someone can help! I have a large number of VMs that will need to be created, and what I would like to do is use a script to create the VM's from OVM's CLI rather than using the GUI.
Ideally the script would read the paramaters of the VM (hostname,serverpool, cpu memory nic config) from a paramater file (ie an XML). The reading in coponent is not critical, the important part right now is just getting a script to create one VM to begin with (taking in its paramaters by whatever means)
The script needs to do only the basics => Clone VM, edit memory, CPU and configure NICs.
I have had a play around and can create/clone a VM and also edit memory and CPU, however hitting some problems with configuring the Nics/ports. Which lead me to simply ask on here to see if some clever people have already created a script tha does the above (and perhpap even more that I am yet to think f)?
If anyone could help it would be greaaatly appreciated!

I have the same problem - it is maddening. I rely on this iPad for work so this is not just an annoyance! The above solutions of changing the appleid on the device or on the website do not work.
The old email address no longer exists - I haven't used it in a year probably and I no longer have the account. I logged into the appleid website and there is no trace of the old email address so there is nothing that can be deleted or changed there. On the iPad there is no trace of the old email address so nothing can be deleted there either. I have updated the iPad software and the same problem comes right back. Every 2 seconds I am asked to log in using the old non-existent email. The device is currently useless.
The only recent change to anything was the addition of an Apple TV device, which was set up using the correct login and password.
Does anyone have any ideas? The iPad has been backed up to the iCloud so presumably it now won't recognize the current iCloud account? So restoring may notbe an option?

There is an option of embedding index for faster search while converting email to a PDF .
However I am not sure that will serve your purpose or not .
I would recommend you to get in touch with Microsoft support as well .

Question about creating two node RAC database 11g after installing and configuration 11g clusterware. I've used DBCA to generate script to create a rac database. I've set
environment variable ORACLE_SID=RAC and the creating script creates instance of RAC1 and RAC2. My understanding is that each node will represent a node, however there should only be one database with a name of 'RAC'. Please advise

You are getting your terminology mixed up.
You only have one database. Take a look, there are one set of datafiles on shared storage.
You have 2 instances which are accessing one database.
Database name is RAC. Instance names are RAC1, RAC2, etc, etc.
Also, if you look at the listener configuration and if your tnsnames is setup properly then connecting to RAC will connect you to either one of the instances wheras connecting to RAC1 will connect you to that instance.

Using XML file in Java script to create Google Map

I work for a non-profit in San Diego as a GIS Specialist. I have had to teach myself about some scripting to create some dynamic maps, but I am still very limited in my skills, so I have had to explore the internet in order to discover various tutorials and examples that have led me on a positive path.
Right now I am working on a Google Mash-Up that will incorporate over 14,000 records, which will appear as separate markers that will have pop-up info bubbles with additional info inside (using html), once the marker is clicked.
Here is the XML script example that is used in the tutorial I am following:

The "Marker" variable instructs Google Maps to label the marker with a particular color. I will be so grateful to the person(s) that helps me get through this wall that I have been hitting for a long time. It's very difficult without having the luxury of peers who know about these types of issues.

Here is the relationship: They both contain geographic coordinates that produce a point on a map. I will use the rest of the information in the second xml file (company name, address, link, etc.) to produce the information for the bubble that will pop up once the marker is clicked.
My problem is that I need to try to keep the second xml file in a relatively similar format, so the rest of my records will still be accepted. If I had a smaller amount of records I could place them directly into the javascript, but because there are so many records, I need to use an xml file that can be retrieved by the java script. I chose to use the second type of xml file because I can easily copy and past the 14,000+ records that are now in excel document.
After the xml issue is corrected I need to rework the javascript that is now emboldened so that it will read the new xml file correctly. I included the first xml file so that the readers will understand what type of xml format is currently being used to produce the markers in the tutorial map.

Create a pdf from an arabic wiki page

hello there!
I come across a nasty probleme whil trying to create a pdf from a wikipedia page:
I go to File--> Create PDF --> From web page, then I choose an arabic page (example adobe entry from wiki http://ar.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D8%B4%D8%B1%D9%83%D8%A9_%D8%A3%D8%AF%D9%88%D8%A8%D9%8A )
the result is a missed up, ther's no arabic text, only latin text appears!
I have installed arabic/hebrew language support to windows from regional settings.
hebrew displays good but arabic not.
I use Acrobat 9 Pro version 9.1.0 on a Windows XP SP3 English.
from some searches on the net i found that i must buy the adobe CS4 Middel east version, and that will be bad to buy two versions of the same product just for one littel thing such as arabic/hebrew .
is there any solution other than this hard choise?

As I said above, non of the adobe cs4 Master Collection supports fully arabic type.
I need to be able to write arabic in Photoshop, indesign, Illustrator, After Effects, Premiere..
I taught CS4 will come out with this option of arabic typing included, but I found that you must by another set of Adobe products arabic enables from the Winsoft company.
a temporary solution is to download the arabic trials found here; http://www.winsoft-international.com/en/downloads/trials/ and use them to make the things that you need in arabic, then delete them and keep using the English CS4.. this is helpful when you have only to work with one project with arabic type, but, this doesn't work, as the trials wil expire and you have to buy licenes again.

Powershell Script to create "custom" Document Library

I have a powershell script which creates a Document Library for every user in AD.
This works, but rather than using the default Document Library I want it use a custom Document Library. However this isnt working.
My script to create the default Document Library is this...

Then it errors with this...
