Wild Carding with Record Search - Auto Suggest Behavior

I have a property by name searchTerm which is enabled for wild card record search. When I am doing a wild card search passing bbay* to ERecSearch , it is not auto correcting to baby and returning no results, whereas when I send bbay to Endeca, it is automatically auto correcting to baby.
Please let me know why is this different behavior noted. Do we not expect them to auto correct even when we use wild carding. Please throw some light on this and how can this be achieved

As Pradeep said, auto-correction is one of the linguistic features that isn't supported for wildcard searching (along with stemming, thesaurus, snippeting and phrasing). One approach is to do a "cascading search", so execute a search without wildcarding first (and getting spell-correction, did-you-mean, stemming etc.), and if you don't get any matches then re-submit as a wildcarded search. This is also useful as part of a larger part number matching strategy.

Problem using Auto Suggest Behavior

Hi all,
I am using Jdeveloper 11.1.1.2 and ADFBC.
I want to implement auto suggest behavior and I am following the steps on: http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/howtos/autosuggest/explaining_autosuggestbehavior.htm
When I am writing a partial string on the component I don't show auto suggestion and if I click on the button on the right of the component (the lens for finding records) I see a panel search with all the fields of my VO.
It is a normal behavior I have a warning in the auto suggest component when I write #{bindings.myField.suggestedItems}?? I don't find it under bindings using the expression builder.
Where am I wrong?Any suggestions?

after the tag validator I have:

Auto suggest behavior for af:query component LOV fields.

Hi,
I am new to ADF development and need help on implementing auto suggest behavior to the LOV fields generated by af:query component. For inputList and inputCombo.. fields we can add af:autosuggestbehavior tag to enable this. How do we enable the same for af:query generated LOV fields.

JDev version we are using is 11.1.1.6.0
Unfortunately, we have gone too far with the AF:Query and Everything else is working apart from Auto-Suggest on AF:Query. Now will take a lot of time to implement and test. Also, users will have to spend considerable time to test it again.

How to use wild card with variable in powershell

i am trying to use wild card with variable but getting an error message, "You cannot call a method on a null-valued expression."
$src = 'C:\Temp'
$TabletzipPath = $src + "tab*.zip"
i would like to copy the tablet zip file which is placed in in $src to be copied in $TabletzipPath.
i am using tab* because this file name changes continuously. so if i give a fix name for example tablet1.zip than it works fine.

Not sure if the wildcard will work without seeing how you're using the variable.
That said, I can say that it looks like you're missing the backslash between the $src path and the wildcard filename. As-is the above code assigns a value to $TabletzipPath of "C:\temptab*.zip" instead of what you are likely expecting ("C:\temp\tab*.zip")

Using wild card with Captivate 5 ( fill in the blank)

I am training software package that requires many fill in the blanks besides the login screeen. If I were to recording the actions using Captivate 5 record, I think, I can only use a demonstration recording as oppsed to having my students interact with the product by filling in the blank. For example, my product asks for a login. When I login to demonstrate how it should be done, the product reponds correctly. By my student is limited to watching as opposed to interacting. While login is not such a big deal, there are several other areas where the same concept applies. Ideally, I wish to use wild cards in fill in the blank so that any name or information can be used to interact with Captivate and move the slide along. Is this possible, and if so, how?

I think Lilybiri may be misinterpreting your use of the term "wildcards" to mean using them in the programming sense.
Perhaps you are referring to the characters that appear in a typical Password field to hide what the user is actually typing?
If so, the text field object in Captivate has an option to use these password characters so that the user's typing characters are hidden. The characters used are asterisks, which are what some people refer to as wildcard characters.

Customizing number of records in auto suggest

I am using an auto suggest in an inputtext component as follows:

</af:inputText>The auto suggest shows only 10 records, though I have mentioned maxSuggestedItems as -1. Say for eg if I type ABC in the input text, it would show the 1st 10 values starting from ABC.
Is there a way I can set this to show all the matching records.

Hi,
unfortunately you forgot to mention the JDeveloper release you use. If it is 11.1.1.6 or 11.1.2.1 then try maxSuggestedItems="25". If this then shows 25, then "-1" doesn't work and you found a bug. However, make sure the ADF iterator you bound the list to doesn't have the rangeSize set to 10 but -1 as well.

it worked well in 11.1.1.3, but after moving it to 11.1.1.5, the auto suggest behaviour stopped working, but found no error in the log. LOV is working good, Value change listener is also working well.

Yes, I did that, but no result. we have similar components in the same page itself with auto suggest behaviour and input LOV, for those auto suggest behaviour is working good. But this particular feild is in a popup, that might be the reason.

Error implementing Auto Suggest Behaviour (JDeveloper Tutorial)

Hi,
I'm using JDev 11g R2 on Mac OSX. In the JDeveloper Tutorial "Developing Rich Web Applications with Oracle ADF", Part 3, Step 3, I don't get the "Insert Auto Suggest Behavior dialog box", so I used the property inspector to enter "#{bindings.JobId.suggestedItems}" in the "SuggestedItems" property.
When I run the application, and type a value in the JobId, I get the error:
suggestedItems="#{bindings.JobId.suggestedItems}": Method not found: 0.suggestedItems(java.lang.String)
I checked the bindings in "query.jsf", and they're all set.
Does anyone have an idea what could be wrong?

The tutorial (http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E18941_01/tutorials/jdtut_11r2_55/jdtut_11r2_55_3.html) suggests that you can drag and drop the auto suggest behavior onto the JobId. But you cannot.
By default, the JobId item is not created as an element that can accept an auto suggest behavior. The source for the item should resemble:

EIC: Employee search - wild card search with personnel number

Hi,
The employee search functionality in EIC employee-search screen allows to search an employee through wild card search. We had set up this and everything was working fine, but suddenly the functionality to search an employee by giving part of personnel number as wild card search is not working, surprisingly other search criteria are listing employee list. For example, if i need to search an employee with personnel no 30000111, then i can give 30* in search criteria and employees starting with 30XXXXXX would be listed. This is the functionality not working at the moment.
Can anybody please help - what could be the probable cause or where should i look to fix this? Any documentation in this regard would really be helpful.

Probably u can set a debug point in the bsp application and ask your abaper to debug the same.
check if any patch application has been done after you saw the functionality working fine.

Regarding wild card search in oralce

I am facing one problem,
I am using wild card search based on LIKE condition, that search is got used for searching purpose through a user interface.
the query is like below
SELECT /*+driving_site(a)*/ A.ID,A.CO_ID,B.NAME,A.CITY,A.state FROM mv1 a,mv2 b WHERE a.id=b.id and nvl(b.name,'x') like '<variable>%' and nvl(a.city,'x') like'<variable>%' and a.state like'%' ;
where user can input any one or may two or three parameters for search.
The problem is in response time because mv1 and mv2(materialized view) contains crores of records(around 3.5 crore )
I am able to search it with city and state but when I am trying by name I am not not getting response for that query.
Each where clause is indexed propely even functional index i put there and analyzed also , by explain plan i am able to reduce the cost but im not able to get proper response. I welcome all your suggestions as this is reallly a crucial for me to get that search faster....

What is your database version? (the result of: select * from v$version; )

Wild card searches

I have created a form that searches a table based on radials drop downs and text boxes, works ok. However the text box is used where there are too many options to be used by other methods.
Is there any way to automatically place a hidden % wild card at the front and end of the text box? I'm trying to permit users to be able to enter a part of a name in order to search for records.

User can type in Ramon and it will still return all records that has Ramon within its title

Wild card search using %

I have a question on wild card searches. I am currently doing a like behind the scenes to look for a string inside a string...
However, if the user wants to put in a wild card like 'AP%Report%'... I would like to return all the ones that begin with AP and have Report in them- is that possible using APEX? I currently do not get any records as the % is considered literally. As our users are used to Oracle, we will have users who will key in a % during the search and we need this to work!

Hope I answered all your questions.. On why I am doing this instead of a LIKE.. I could not get it working with a LIKE and had to pull this code from one of the sample applications... Hope that makes sense!

Wild card search in a FM

Hi experts,
I have a FM in which there is one table customer_name
It has fields as SIGN (type SIGN), OPTION (type OPTION), LOW (type name1_gp), HIGH (type name1_gp).
Now the user can give single value, or a range of values for the customer name.
I am familiar with the wild card search for a select option, but not sure how to apply that funda here.
For ex: If a customer enters the customer name as MG*, then all the names starting with MG should appear
in the output.
Similarly, if the user enters AP* in LOW and MG* in high, the corresponding output should be displayed.
Can you please help me out?
