Will 10.6.8 sync contacts to iphone ios6.1

will 10.6.8 sync contacts to iphone ios6.1

My approach to this problem has been to start by setting up the new os x 10.10 servers and just two os x 10.10 clients. I've plodded through setting up the server1 and client 1 and then checking that server2 replicates correctly and client 2 can be deployed and managed via DeployStudio and Profile Manager. At the moment I am using client 2 for my own day to day work to ensure I spot snags before the students do.
Once I happy with the microcosm I've created, it's a matter of syncing  /Users on the old and new servers with rsync and telling DeployStudio that the hundred or so clients that are currently running 10.6.8 and are binding to 10.6.8 servers need to be re-imaged with the workflow that client 2 is currently using. (Actually I'll probably do one client per subnet first before hitting the 'Make it so!' switch.)
The most laborious part of the migration for me has been recasting MCX preferences set with Workgroup Manager as 'profiles'. I have never been happy with automated migration for servers. Setting up a server is not particularly difficult and you end up with a clean and documented installation that you understand fully that uses current methods and no legacy settings or obsolete hacks.
I've no idea whether this is the most efficient or best method, but it feels safe to me; even after deployment, until I shutdown my beloved Xserves for the last time I'll be able to roll the whole system back to 10.6.8 within a couple of hours if something goes wrong.

How do you Sync Contacts from iPhone to MacBook?
Hi,  Does anyone know how to do this without the need for me to upgrade to Lion on my MAcBook Pro and use the iCloud?
I put all my contacts into my iPhone and I'd like them now on my MAcBook Pro.
    Thanks,

Click on your iDevice on the sidebar of iTunes and then go to the info tab at the top. check the box shown here:
This will put the contacts from an iDevice to the computer. You can then check the same box on the (let's say iPad) that doens't have any contacts and they will go from your comp to your iPad.

So this is basically a continuation of bsohl's thread Syncing Contacts FROM iPhone?.
For those of you that are in a similar situation to this:
    1. You're on a PC.
    2. Your primary storage space for contacts is your phone.
    3. Your email client isn't compatable with ITunes.
    4. You want to back up your contacts.
Follow these few steps to make your backup happen:
    1. Sign up for a new yahoo email address.
    2. In the info tab in ITunes select Sync Contacts with Yahoo Address Book.
    3. At the prompt enter in your new yahoo email address and password.
    4. Hit 'apply'. At this point you may have to hit sync or it might just do it automatically. I can't remember.
    Here comes the magic
    5. You will see the following prompt: http://a425.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/89/l_dfc21c0b2fd5015780fbaad7fddb3 798.gif

    7. Wait a few seconds.
    8. Check your contacts in your yahoo email account and they should all be there.

You can also sync your contacts to Microsoft Address Book. Go to the info pane with your phone connected to change the settings.
Your iphone backup also contains your contact info. So before you sync, back up your phone manually, here's how to:
Disable autosync in iTunes/settings/devices, connect your phone to your new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your phone without syncing.
Do the same to transfer your purchases by choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
When you connect your phone for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the phone for the first time.

  • Syncing contacts from iPhone back to iMac (Entourage)

Briefly, after both my Time Machine and hard drive failed, I lost all my data. My Entourage contacts re-main on my iPhone, and I want to sync them back to Entourage. I understand the process of "merging,"but I have run into a few obstacles: I am using the latest version of iTunes (7.6.2), by the way. First, under Preferences, I have no options available under "Syncing." Then, when I connect my iPhone, and select "Info," I have no options here, either. I do have a number of contacts in Entourage in my iMac, but, apparently, iTunes no longer recognizes the existence of this program, so I can go no-
where. (My Entourage Contacts have been duplicated in my Address Book, but that doesn't show up, either. Something must be terribly corrupted.) I'm both frustrated and perplexed, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks in advance. pah

Something to check when syncing contacts from iphone back to computer, make sure to open address book and enter at least one contact.
Then when you connect the iphone, you should get a message asking if you want to merge the data.
Click merge and this should copy all contacts from the iphone back into address book.
the same goes with ical also.
Make sure there is at least one event in ical.
Now to move the data in address book and ical to entourage is set in the entourage preferences in the sync services section.
    Hope this helps.

  • Message "iTunes could not sync contacts to iPhone because an error occurred while committing data"

Hello all. I recently replaced the HD in my MacBook Pro. Just after, I retrieved my old files from the Time Machine backup, which I made just before the replacement. During the first sync of my iPhone via iTunes and while I was trying to sync my contacts I saw the message "iTunes could not sync contacts to iPhone because an error occurred while committing data". After that, I lost my iPhone contacts (I have them only from iCloud). The only problem is contacts, all the others (Calendars, Apps) are normally syncing. Does anybody has a solution? Thanks in advance!

    hello,
There was a similiar posting that I have seen from others and they found out that the back up was bad. https://discussions.apple.com/message/6139533#6139533
I would use a previous backup (earlier one) to the one you have tried to just do.

Problems syncing contacts between iPhone 4S on iOS 7 to my iMAC Address Book (OSX 10.7.5) using iTunes.
How are conflicts resolved?  There don't seem to be any preferences or settings, but I'm assuming iTunes should pop up with a message when there's a conflict asking which contact to use?

Note:  I do not use iCloud -- it ruined my contacts and took much time to fix, so I want to just sync my devices with iTunes.  I would like to get rid of all references to iCloud if there were a way!

You can use the File Sharing feature at the bottom of the iTunes Apps pane when you connect to iTunes. Transfer the documents to your computer, and from there to your iPhone.

  • ITunes could not sync contacts to iPhone ...because the iPhone disconnected

I just updated to iPhone 1.1.4 and get that message while trying to sync contacts.
    Running iTunes 7.6.1.9.
    Anyone getting this error. Workaround?

It will clear the contacts off the iphone, but you can sync them back from the computer when you set up as new iphone.
If the issue persists after you restore the iphone, something could be corrupted in the contact manager on the computer.
Try creating a group in the contact manager and sync just that group.
Move a few contacts to that group and sync the iphone.
If the sync goes through ok, move a few more contacts and sync again.
Keep going through this process until you run across the issue again.
then you know that it is something in the las group of contacts that you moved to that group that is causing the problem.
    Hope this helps.

  • Will a samsung s5 sync contacts on a mac pro 150 with outlook 2011 installed?

    Im looking at a new Samsung S5 smart phone (had it with the iphone) & I have a mac pro 150 with Office 2011 installed;
Question - will the S5 sync contacts in Outlook program installed?

Microsoft have not made Outlook for Mac compatible with iCloud since they haven't bothered to include support for the industry standard CalDAV and CardDAV protocols iCloud uses.
    See: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2648915
Apple cannot do anything to rectify this, as they don't make Microsoft Office. It is in Microsoft's hands.
It wasn't necessary to buy Office for Mac to sync with iCloud. All Macs come with all the applications required for syncing with iCloud for free.
Use Apple's Mail, Address Book and iCal.

  • New Itunes 9.2.1.4 eliminated syncing contacts on iPhone with Outlook 2007

I get the following message when plugging in my iPhone to my Windows 7 based computer: "iPhone could not sync contacts to “john” iPhone because the sync server failed to sync the iPhone" This just happened today after updating iTunes 9.2.1.4. Anybody have a solution?

This is the part of phones & computers that is so hard to deal with, it has made me loose my mind sometimes.
BEFORE YOU EVER UPDATE YOUR ITUNES ON EITHER THE MAC OR PC.
MAKE SURE YOU BACKUP YOUR PHONE & OUTLOOK FIRST.
EXPORT YOUR ENTIRE OUTLOOK PROFILE INTO A .PST FILE (READ HOW TO DO THAT, IF YOU DON'T KNOW HOW)
I go a step further and export my contacts separately, my calandar, notes separately too. just in case the .pst file gets corrupt.
Then put all of them on a backup CD or DVD
After making sure you have valid backups. Search the internet for any problems on the new update that is available and make sure it doesn't have a Bug on the computer you are using etc.....
don't just install the update, cause it just came out. I would wait a few days, to make sure there are no problems with it.
One of the worst updates Apple put out: was for the iPhone, when it was new in the market and everyone who downloaded and tried to update their phone, it erased all their contacts on the phone and computer. that would've put me in the hospital.....
I'm a tech for Mac and PC music/video studios, so I do this for a living.
I'm still using the iPhone 3gs. My clients and friends are all texting and asking when they can buy a 4.0.... I say wait until the 2nd version comes out.
which I'm right, cause they haven't worked out all the kinks.
So if you're running a business and have a real job and pay bills, don't mess around. Buy the 4.0 for your kid, so he or she can be the beta tester for apple.
as far as your Syncing issue. 2 ways to fix it.
remove the new itunes 9.2.1.4 and delete the system registry keys, restart and install the previous version of iTunes that didn't give you that message. There's really no reason to keep updating iTunes every time they do an update, unless there's something wrong or missing and read the updates that they are offering in the new version to see if there's anything significant for you to bother with it. or else wait for the next one.
the only thing that really comes to mind is that Microsoft and Apple work with each other move the market in the direction to maximizing sales.
Office just introduced version 2010 for PC users. So I'm assuming that the reason that 2007 stopped working for you, is because it's going to force you to go purchase 2010....I bet you it will sync fine after that.
I'm also a beta tester for microsoft and been using the 2010 version of Office and it's amazing.....and I downloaded the 9.2.1.4 and sync'd just fine.
So again, when all the new stuff comes out, it starts bugging you in ways to make you upgrade and purchase the newest technology.
I support that and for the past 15 years, we're all beta testing the future, hopefully the next generation will appreciate it, because these companies need the support right now, to build future products that will be seamless....
    hope that helps.
just remember, don't be 1st in line when new stuff is released. Do your homework and do a search like this before touching your system: "iTunes 9.2.1.4 problems"
    good luck
    max

  • How to sync Contacts from iPhone to iCal or MobileMe?

I have ONE copy of Contacts that is correct: on my iPhone.
I really need to push the contacts from my iPhone to my empty MobileMe AddressBook or to my empty iCal AddressBook.  I've spent an hour researching this on the Web. Does anyone know how to push the Contacts in this direction?
I had thought that iTunes Sync of Contacts was always two-way (KB article http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1386 says it is!); but apparently, with the iPhone, it is only one way (if a Mac Address Book or the MobileMe AddressBook is empty, the sync will wipe the contacts off the iphone).
    Desperately need help.  Thanks!

OK, I finally got it fixed.  And I figured out my missteps, too.  Here you go (I tested it three times, and part of the testing procedure included deleting ALL data in MobileMe AND the AddressBook on my Mac):
Procedure for Pushing Good Set of Contacts on iPhone to all other platforms
Problem: Your iPhone has your only good set of contacts.  Your iCal and MobileMe (cloud) contacts are not there or corrupted.
Complication: If you try to delete your corrupted MobileMe Contacts on the cloud in preparation for pushing the valid set of contacts from the iPhone up to the MobileMe cloud, the system tends to do a one-way sync and immediately delete all your iPhone contacts (the good set!).
    Solution and procedure:
For starters, forget about iTunes.  We are not going to use it at all for this procedure.
Back up Address Book on the Mac.  OK, so this copy might be corrupted or incomplete; do it anyway: File, Export, Address Book Archive.  It keeps your groups and their member sets, too.
Go into MobileMe Settings on your Mac, then to the Sync tab.  Make sure sync is set to Manual.  You can leave Sync turned on; it won't sync until you tell it to, because you just set it to Manual.
OK, we're assuming your iPhone has the best, correct set of AddressBook Contacts, Groups, and Group member lists.
So now put your iPhone in Airplane mode.  MAKE ABSOLUTELY SURE YOU DO THIS!!!
On the iPhone, go to Settings, Mail, Contacts, Calendars, MobileMe, and turn OFF Contacts in Settings on iPhone.  The iPhone should immediately give you a prompt.  Make sure you press "Keep contacts on iPhone," NOT "Delete."  (And if you don't get that message, something is wrong.)
Check to make sure Contacts and Groups are still there on iPhone.  They should be.  Double check to make sure your iPhone is in Airplane Mode.
Now open AddressBook on Mac and delete all Contacts AND all Groups.  (You can always recover these from the earlier backup you made.)
Then delete ALL contacts in MobileMe on the Web.
MAKE SURE MAC ADDRESS BOOK AND MOBILEME ADDRESS BOOK ARE EMPTY.
    Log off MobileMe.
Check to see that Contacts are still on the iPhone, and that there is only ONE set of groups.  And you should still be in Airplane Mode!
On iPhone, turn back ON Contacts.  You may get the message "The contacts you previously synced with your Mac will be merged with Mobile Me."  (This message is a bit confusing, but don't worry about that.)  (If you don't get that message, something is wrong.)  Click on "Merge" to turn back ON Contacts on iPhone.
Take iPhone out of Airplane Mode.
Go to iPhone desktop, double press the black menu button, and close all Apps.
Now reboot iPhone immediately.  (Very important!  Procedure doesn't always work unless you do this.)
Once rebooted, check to see that Contacts are still there on the iPhone, and that there is only ONE set of groups.  If AddressBook starts syncing while you're doing this, let it finish before you do anything else.
Now open MobileMe.  Go to Contacts.  The procedure should have synced the Contacts properly.  If you see zero Contracts in the All Contacts group, go to a subgroup, and then back; or go to a different part of MobileMe (Calendar, etc.), and then come back to AddressBook.  All your contacts should then appear in the full Address Book.
    Log off MobileMe.
Open Address Book on Mac.  It should still be empty.  Close it.
Open MobileMe settings on Mac.  Go to Sync tab.  Click on Advanced button on bottom right.  Select the current computer you're on and make SURE it stays selected.
    Now click "Reset Sync data."
Change graphic of platform sync to "Cloud---->Computer."
    Set "Replace" to Contacts.
    Hit Replace.
This should immediately populate your AddressBook on your Mac with the correct info from the MobileMe cloud.  Open AddressBook and make sure it did, and that the groups are there and populated.
Now, if all three platforms have correct info, you can go to MobileMe settings on Mac, Sync tab, and change it to "Synchronize with MobileMe automatically" to keep MobileMe and iCal on your Mac in sync.  (MobileMe and your iPhone are already set up to sync automatically per earlier steps in this procedure.)
Now that you have a good copy of your Contacts and Groups in AddressBook on your Mac, backup it up.

  • Syncing contacts to iPhone or iPad

Is there a limit to the number of contacts that can sync to the iPhone or iPad, pushed through Outlook?  My employer has ~15000 contacts he would like to have access to when he travels.
    Thank you.

First check that contact and calendar syncing is enabled on each device as well as your MacBook.
If syncing is turned on on each device, try turning it off, restarting and turning syncing back on.
Finally check that your contacts and calendars are in the iCloud account in each application and not in the On My Mac account, only iCloud accounts will sync with iCloud.
