Will a 600W psu be enough for a gtx 260 and an amd quad-core 9950?

I plan to upgrade my 2 year old 8600GT gpus in sli with an MSI GTX 260. Currently, I'm using a 600W power supply from Rosewill with a combined rating of 40A on its 12v 2 X 12v rails. I read that the power requirements of a GTX 260 is a minimum of 500W based upon an Intel Core 2 setup; I was hoping to pair my gpu with a 9950 Black Edition. From my psu specs the maximum output is 585W; I'm currently using an amd 5000+ with 65W. I plan to overclock mainly the cpu and leave the settings on the gpu as is. I counted the difference of 75W if I replaced my cpu with the quad-core; if I added the differece with the minimum requirements of the gpu it totalled 575W? Is this cutting it too close; I really don't want to purchase another psu since it's only 5 months old? What are your recommendations? On the side note I plan to add a second hard-drive. Here are the specs for my psu:

  • Will ECC 4.X is enough for Auto ID RTI and Integrated Scenarios or ECC6.0 ?

    Hi Friends,
Will all Auto ID Scenarios work with < ECC 6.0 or we need only ECC 6.0 ? Please clarify
    Thanks & Regards
    V.Rangarajan

For SAP AII RTI Scenario you dont need SAP ECC at all.
Except for Product tracking and authentication which requires SAP ECC 6.0 all other scenario's in SAP AII is supported by lower versions of SAP back end. R/3 4.6C is the minimum requirement.

Purchasing with the upgrades through Apple would add about $800 over the Black Friday deal at Best Buy.  Just looking for some advice if I will be satisfied with the based model.

All models will do what you want. Upgraded models will do it faster than the standard models.
Just why are you thinking of switching to a Mac?

  • Will a macbook air be enough for my needs?

    Hello everyone,
I'm looking to get a new mac, and I am in a bit of a dilemma between the MBA and the MBP (non retina).
First of all, let me explain that the reasons for not getting the retina are basically that I feel a bit uncomfortable/scared because of all the "ghosting problems" that one comes across almost everywhere on the web. Even though I know AppleCare could take care of it, etc, I just don't have the time in my daily workload to 1) go somewhere to get help, and 2) be a few days/weeks without a computer.
My current and near future needs are:
    1. Development tools
1a. I will run different development tools/IDEs (not at the same time, of course), like Netbeans, PyCharm, Eclipse, etc. Even Visual Studio 2012 on a           VM/Parallels.
1b. Compiling time is an issue
         1c. Git(hub)
    2. Document/File editing
2a. For this I'd need something for LaTex, and then Pages, MacVim, TextMate, etc.
    3. Web development (no graphics)
3a. I run a wiki for college which is located in a remote server, a personal web page, and a forum.
    4. Browsing/Info, Mail, Newsgroups, Skype, etc
4a. Typical web browsing for information (no facebook, no twitter, etc), RSS feeds, etc.
4b. I haven't gotten used to "Mail", so I use Thunderbird for mail and newsgroups
4c. I need to run Skype
    5. Virtualization
5a. I will run either a VM or Parallels for a virtual windows and a virtual linux machine to test out stuff and use programs which are
required for the university. I will most probably not have them both running at the same time, but I can never be sure.
    6. VPN
6a. I will need to use a secure remote connection to the university.
    7. SFTP, SSH, etc
To connect to remote servers in the university.
    8. Long hours of staring into the screen
    9. Portability.
9a. I don't mind dragging weight with me, but only if I really need it. Sometimes I have to get up and go to another classroom, or just take a break to get a      coffee, etc, and I need to bring my laptop with me since I can't leave it around unattended.
    10. Battery life
Although I will always try to plug in, this will not always be possible and in such cases I need to rely on my laptop to not let me down in times of need.
I don't do any video/music/foto editing. I'm an engineering major specializing in embedded systems but also need to take classes in databases, Java/C# development, etc. I know most IDEs are bloated, and so it is important that I get enough power to run at least one of them at a given time without experiencing lag or crashes.
I've worked on 12,5", 13,3" and 15" screens and I am able to cope with all of those. I have a cheap 22" monitor in the dorm where I can just plug in my computer when I'm home, but needless to say I am barely home...
I know the MBAs have recently gotten a very good upgrade, and are very well built, whereas the MBPs have a CD/DVD drive which I don't need and still use a slightly oldier technolgy. Also, one of my concerns is about the possible "breakability" of the MBA. I don't know how strong it is, but I need to feel comfortable enough to have it in my backpack while taking the bus/train/subway full of people and not being afraid that it'll break because I forgot to put the back between my legs or something like it. With the pro, I'd be pretty conscious of it because of the weight, and also, the big and thick laptop won't just "break" ;-)
I'd love to get some input/ideas on this to try and make the wisest decision possible.
    Thanks for your time.

  • Should my PSU be enough for this system?

My system is in my rig, but my antec true power 430w cannot boot it up.  If I remove the 9700pro and use a different video card, it works fine.  Ocassionaly, if I am lucky, it will boot with the 9700.
If I need a new psu.. what are some suggestions?  Want to stay under $100 but, i definitely do not want a POS PSU.

its because a computer does not use a even amount of current but it goes up and down rather much.

  • Will 128gb of ssd be enough for pages, numbers and keynote documents?

I am going to be buying the MacBook Pro 13" with retina display in the next month or so and I was just wondering whether the 128gb ssd that it has will be enough for Pages, Numbers and Keynote documents. There will be about 30-40 documents on each of those apps. If I do need the extra space I do have the money for the next size up (256gb). On the MacBook I will also have photos on iPhoto that I will be editing. Thanks

You won't have any problem with that amount of documents, unless they are very heavy.
128 GB are enough for most users unless you need to store a lot of files. Respecting to photos, it depends on the amount of photos you want to store, so you will have to check this.
If you get a MacBook Pro with Retina display with 128 GB and you see that you haven't got enough storage, you can return it during the first 14 days of use and get one with 256 GB. Another option is to get an external drive

  • Will intel hd 3000 enough for watching hd videos and play games on medium settings?

I am planning to buy a macbook pro 13" with i7 2.7ghz and 8gb of ram. Will it be ok for intel hd3000 to run hd videos and games in low settings?

Some 3D games won't run at all, some will but severely disabled.
Any that do manage to run won't for long as updates and new games come out requiring the more powerful cards. You'll be sorry buying that machine for gaming when Lion rolls out.
If you want a future proof 3D gaming laptop, you got to go the 2.2 Ghz 15" and higher with the 1GB Radeon 6750M. 3x faster than the HD 3000.
    Seriously.
And if you really want a powerful 3D gaming machine with the most choice of games and hardware upgrades, then your going to go with a Windows tower as your going to be upgrading the video card about once a year, overclocking and doing all sorts of other tricks.
See the HD 3000 score on this page, it's about a 11. Pitiful.
    http://www.cbscores.com/index.php?sort=ogl&order=desc
I guess you could go the MacPro > bootcamp route, but that's not very cost effective for a gaming box.

  • What is best mac mini for easy video editing? Late 2012 quad-core or late 2014 double core?

    Hi!
I want to buy Mac mini and don't know which one is best for me. Please don't tell me to buy anything else, because it is my choise. I only need to know what is better:
Upgradable late 2012 version with quad core i7, 2.3GHz, 8gb of RAM and Intel HD Graphics 4000
    or
Non-upgradable late 2014 version with dual core i5, 2.6 GHz, 8 gb of RAM and Iris graphic card.
I do short videos with a few effects, transactions, fades, titles, sometimes add CC. So which Mac mini do you recommend, guys?

as a windows/premiere user i can only speak to the hardware. 8gb ram in either should be fine for short & simple projects. the i7 is alot better, however the hd graphics 4000 is not as good as the iris and may require running the mercury engine as software only. this means no using the video card to help premiere run faster. anything outside of premiere using the cpu for day to day tasks would also appreciate the i7.  depending on the model of the iris graphics, it may be a couple times faster than the hd 4000 and therefore might work in premiere. according to adobe it lists the Intel Iris Graphics 5100 and 5200 as working  System requirements | Adobe Premiere Pro  if you get into other adobe apps, the graphics wont matter as much and the i7 will run faster.  it is faster video vs faster cpu, which to pick...

  • I only have a dial up connection, that will not stay online long enough for me to load the firefox update, can I order it on CD?

I would like to order the latest firefox upgrade on CD since I cannot get it loaded with my dial up connection.

    Hi,
Firefox can usually resume from interrupted downloads as long as Firefox is not closed or exited. If you are already using Firefox to download the latest version full installer, then most likely there wouldn't be a problem between the dial-up interruptions. Also you can make sure by going to '''Tools''' ('''Alt''' + '''T''') > '''Downloads''' (or '''Ctrl''' + '''J''') and right-click the entry and try to resume if it's not automatically picked up.
If this is not working as expected, then you may have to look for alternate ways.

Hello, is this PSU good enough for my gfx card or should I upgrade it?!!

    ASUS P8B75-V Intel B75 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0

    PSU XFX Core Edition PRO550W

yes its fine but very close to its limits wattage wise but for amps your all good! so that card will work fine but do not get a x70gtx or higher as then you will be in trouble if you do so as they need more wattage to be stable!

  • Apple MacBook Air 2011 - powerful enough for most tasks?

I want to buy the 2011 model of MacBook Air 13” 128GB, but I have some questions for you guys, would appreciate it if you experts have answers:
    1) I'm currently on a two year old Acer Aspire 6920G laptop with 17”, Windows 7, Core Duo 2 (T5750 @ 2.0 Ghz) and 3 GB RAM - will my new MacBook Air feel one million times faster to use?
    2) Can I later (easily/cheaply) upgrade the MBA's RAM to 8GB?
    3) I mostly use web browsers, office software, IM programs, media players etc., but I will also use it a lot for electronic music making (with Ableton Live and virtual instruments/effects) and DJ’ing (with Avid Torq). I almost never do any heavy duty image work, and I rarely code/edit video - will the MBA be fast enough for the things I do most often, or do I have to get a MacBook Pro?
    4) How often does the fan start up? And when it's on, how much noise does it really make when it approaches 6500 RPM?
    5) I read that with Lion the fan is running more than with previous OS'es - can this really be fixed with booting in 32-bit rather than 64-bit? And what will that entail for the CPU power/battery longevity/software compability?
    6) Is the graphics adapter in my current PC (nVidia GeForce 9500M GS) much more powerful than the MBA's Intel HD3000, or is it almost the same now?
    7) Is it easy to run Windows XP or 7 in Boot Camp? I have a few Windows programs I'd like to continue using.
    8) Should I alternatively use a few more bucks and get a MacBook Pro with SSD-disk? Is that less "locked" and more compatible with what might happen in the future, technology-wise?
    9) Is it possible/cheap to switch the English keyboard to a Norwegian one next time I'm visiting Norway?
I have to make a purchase of a new laptop soon, so I'd GREATLY appreciate any answers. Since I have had software- and hardware problems with every PC I've ever owned, I frankly do not trust them anymore. So here we go then - Mac!

Let's see if I can help
1)The i5 Macbook air should be considerably faster than your previous laptop. Mostly because of the SSD and the i5 processor.
2)I'm not sure about the latest macbook airs, but previous models have their RAM modules soldered to the Logic Board, I don't think you can upgrade the RAM at all.
3)The MacBook Air might be fast enough, but Just, I would go with a Macbook Pro, mostly because it's easier to upgrade.
4)It will kick in several times but rarely at full speed, and it's not that loud. Would recommend a macbook pro for cooler running.
    5) I didn't notice any difference between Lion and Snow Leopard regarding fan activity. Lion is a 64-bit only system, there is no way to boot in a full 32-bit environment. Compatibility can be an issue with some software, ie. traktor users have been reporting problems with external hardware running Lion, but updates will fix these soon.
6)They are at comparable levels, the Intel HD 3000 might even be better at some point. It's much better than the 9400m that older macbook airs had.
7)Yes, as long as you have the optional super drive to install it.
8)Yes, that would be a better idea.
9)I don't think so, never heard of people swapping keyboards on Macbook Airs or Pro's.
I'd buy a MacBook Pro if you are planning to keep it for long. It's more powerful, more upgradeable and runs cooler and quieter than the air.
Hope you get your mac soon!

  • Is it good enough for gaming?

My question is actually does the Macbook Pro have enough of the graphics and stuff i'd be buying the i7 2,3ghz and 8gb ram
Will it be enough for running CoD serie and BF for instense?
    Greetz

Without knowing much about gaming, I would definitely say yes. Without any problems. As long as they are compatible, they should show up more vivid and beautiful than in other computers.
    Cheers

EDIT: I spoke with there customer support line, they said they could RMA the power supply with a new revision that works with the board, I don't know what I'm going to do though.
Regardless if you get an updated model which has addressed the compatibility issue, you are better off with a single +12V rail PSU like the ones I suggested.
