Will Java UFLs satisfy reports designed with COM UFLs

cr_xi_java_ufl.pdf notes that "When using Crystal Reports" to design reports that contain user-defined function libraries (UFL), you can use only Java UFLs or only COM UFLs, but not both".
Is that purely a statement about configuring the Developer to access the UFLs or does it indicate some sort of distinction between COM and Java UFLs.
In particular can I take a report designed on Microsoft Windows and including a call to a UF that happened to be exposed by a COM UFL and then run it under Crystal Reports Server XI R2 for Linux using JRC and have the function call evaluated by a Java UF of the same signature within a Java UFL?

Business Objects led me wrong.  Java UFLs DO satisfy reports designed with COM UFLs.
If I take a report that was designed under Microsoft Windows and I added functions that were there via COM UFLs (certainly I have proved it by typing the UFL name in directly into the formula editor; I presume it will also work if you drag the COM UFL into the formula editor) and I then place that rpt file on my Linux machine and view that report using Crystal Reports Server XI R2 and Tomcat and JRC and I have Java UFLs on that Linux machine that have the same name and arguments as the COM one then the report runs OK and the Java UFLs do their job.
(Now that is great news)

    Unfortunately not.
You may try to work around to have set of virtual chars and key figures; but resposne time will not be encouraging.

  • Will Java Plug-in suffice if Windows comes w/o Java?

Just wonder if the new version of Windows comes w/o Java as it is being declared, will Java Plug-in be enough for an average user to be able to use Java applets in one's browser?
    Thanks for any feedback,
    Reshat.

Here is a quote from CNET:
Sun's problem is that the current version of its JVM, 1.3.1, will not work with Internet Explorer 6. Windows XP runs 1.3.1, but because Microsoft abandoned the Netscape-style plug-ins in Internet Explorer 6, the browser can use only Microsoft's JVM.
The whole article at http://dailynews.yahoo.com/h/cn/20010820/tc/windows_xp_rush_bypasses_sun_s_java_1.html mainly deals with microsoft and XP but some interesting quotes in there about java

    Hi,
The Education area of the SME Portal of SAP Service Marketplace (SMP) contains several flashbooks which explain the usage of the B1 built-in Print Layout Designer (PLD) + the usage of XL Reporter...
In the B1 knowledge base on SMP you should find more information on top of that.
For questions please use the "Implementation" forum on Channel Partner Solution Network (CPSN) preferrably.

    Ted,
When I connect to the Derby database in Eclipse using the embedded driver, I can successfully drag and drop tables to create a report. This driver uses the derby.jar file and has no package sealing violations popping up.
    <br/>
    <br/>
When specifying a driver for a new derby database in Eclipse, the default Derby client driver expects to use the derbyclient.jar driver file. If I only specify this as the driver file this is the error I get:

The error I initially posted resulted after I added the derby.jar as a driver file in addition to the derbyclient.jar, which I don't think is supposed to be done now that I am thinking about it, but I did it because of the class not found exception above. Is this perhaps simply a bug that it is trying to utilize the derby.jar embedded driver when the client driver should be used instead? Or am I doing something wrong myself?

  • To view reports in new page for each cutomer using Report Designer

    HI all
I have a requirement to view the data (key figures) for each customer in a new page.
I have created the same using the Report Designer tool.
Now there is setting for this Group Header 'Customer' i have selected the option 'repeat group header on each page'
still the query when generated, gives fine results for certain cases but not for all.
like it will show the each customers in a fresh page for some pages , then in midst there would some 2-3 customers in the same page.
There is no relation between these customers , they are same as the other customers, no difference at all.then i am not able to figure out the reason why it is behaving so odd.
    Thanks
    Ramesh

    Ramesh,
right now there really is no way to solve what you are looking for.  There partial solutions, but you will not be able to force a page break in a dynamic report.
Here is what I have faced, and what I have come up with so far:
I have a series of reports that have the same column heading, but spread over 5 pages in a fixed structure.  I need to be able to re-use the header and the general report design with 6 reports.  Here is my solution:
    1. Create an outline of the report.  I did all the formatting by creating a report section for each page.  You can force page breaks between the pages.  Upgrade to patch 1502 (came out last week) and you will see some new functionality (such as fit to page, page numbers, etc).
    2. Insert all you page breaks and do all the formatting.
    3. Insert an infoprovider.  Once in, you can just drag and drop the key figure cells into your formatted report.
    4. Create additional modification for formatting as needed.
This fixes my problem (for now), but I had to do a lot of work to come up with this.  Also, the latest patch (1501 and 1502) has created an issue for me - there is a null exception when I try to use a variable or a filter value in the report body - I can't save the report.  I have an OSS message out, but our BASIS guys are going to be taking the lead on troubleshooting this.
The reason that you are seeing some customers on the new pages is probably because of "how the cookie falls" - they just fit that way.
I am trying to be positive and overcome the limitations that are in place right now. If my technical issue is solved, I would recommend upgrading to the new patch (1403 is the latest stable one in my opinion)
    good luck

  • Report designer - Check Data Provider button missing

    Hi,
We are in Bi 7.0 Sp 17. I found out that reports designer with hierarchies don't offer the 'check data provider' button- In field catalog, over the query, right button. If report has a fixed structure button appears...
I need it to refresh the dataprovider with new filter values set in the query
Have you noticed this? Do you think it's a bug in report designer or can it be my sapgui version?
    Regards,
    Ruben

    Hi Ruben,
I think I am correct in the following, it is my understanding that the Check Data Provider button only works on fixed (Static) structures not dynamic characteristics.  Therefore if you add in additional characteristics (dynamic) after you have inserted the dataprovider into the report designer then you will not be able to use the Check Data Provider button.
Please see the following link for explanation.
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/43/8a95791b1f22a8e10000000a1553f6/content.htm
If you find additional help on this please share, as RD has caused lots of "challenges" and is still in development as far as I am concerned.  Be glad when its superceded.
    Regards
    Nick

  • Bex Report Designer - Large amount of data issue

    Hi Experts,
I am trying to execute (on Portal) report made in BEx Report Designer, with about 30 000 pages, and the only thing I am getting is a blank page. Everything works fine at about 3000 pages. Do I need to set something to allow processing such large amount of data?
    Regards
    Vladimir

    Hi Sauro,
I have not seen this behavior, but it has been a while since I tried to send an input schedule that large. I think the last time was on a BPC NW 7.0 SP06 system and it worked OK. If you are on a recent support package, then you should search for relevant notes (none come to mind for me, but searching yourself is always a good idea) and if you don't find one then you should open a support message with SAP, with very specific instructions for recreating the problem from a clean input-schedule.
    Good luck,
    Ethan

  • BI 7.0 Report Designer

Has anyone any info on whether one can use the new report designer with BW 3.5? Is it a stand alone installation such as the WAD and the QAD?The formatting features of this tool are going to be very useful
    Cheers
    Anand

    Hi Anand,
    As per SAP:
To ensure that existing customer scenarios can continue to be edited, in addition to the new tools, the tools from SAP NetWeaver ‘04 will also be delivered.
These tools from SAP NetWeaver ‘04 are changed so that it is possible to work with these tools in connection with the new BI Server as well. This ensures that the previous functions will continue to be supported.
New functions, such as BI-Integrated Planning and Enterprise Reporting, are only possible with the new tools. Objects that were created with the new tools can no longer be edited with the tools from SAP NetWeaver ‘04.
The transition to the new tools will be done as needed. Conversion (if possible) occurs when the previous objects are opened in the new tools. This enables transition on an as-needed basis.
The recommendation is to make the change step by step, because further new features will only be made for the new tools.
    Hope this helps...

    hi,
report designer is for front end view design and the designcan be done with restriction to navigation.
you have dynamic and static report designs with restricted navigations.

It sounds like that your Web CGI did not configure right. To test if your CGI configuration is correct, type:
    http://hostname:port/cgi-bin/rwcgi60exe?
If you get a help screen, then you should be able to bring up your report.

  • Report Designer missing 'group level' area - GUI problem?

    Hi all -
I have a few questions here that I think are related, so I'm posting in one thread.
    1)  As far as what I've been reading on, we can upgrade to BI 7.0 even with a front-end SapGUI 640 (patch 19).  True or False?
    2)  One can <u>only</u> use Report Designer with SapGUI 710.  True or False?
    And here's a long one...
    3)  When you open Report Designer  should we see "Group Level" on the right-hand side (if it's checked to show)?  Mine (having sapgui 710 at patch 1) was showing just the ruler, but not the "Group Level" areas... is this a gui issue?  What's the fix?
    [my history of GUI install:
Before upgrade:  Sap GUI 640 patch 8
After upgrade:  Installed NW4s BEx components only
(then getting dumps in the r3 back-end) so installed SAP GUI 710 from 50083078_4 cd.
Report Designer missing the group level areas... I thought, might as well install patch 01. But that did not help.]
    Any input would be great!
    Thanks guys (and girls!)!
    Cheers...

I had a couple issues to 710 with the report designer. i didnt had anything similar to ur issue, but all my default and specifics of format catalog were blacked out and not allowing me to change that. I downgraded to 640 and everything works fine now. (I tried installing all possible latest and greatest on the GUI but nothing worked and it costed me a whole day to acknowledge the fact)
