Will not boot - Black screen A2 code on bottom right.

mobo:Z97S SLI KRAIT EDITION
Samsung SSD - Windows and games are installed here
WD HDD - Everything else is put on this one.
Windows 7
I installed an ISO mounting program called Gizmo Central onto my HDD
After installation it said that it needed to restart. After it restarted I got a black screen with an A2 code. The screen will go completely black, and then it will back to the screen with the A2 code in the bottom right. It won't boot up BIOS, unless I do 1 of 2 things:
1. power off the pc, unplug the sata cable from the HDD, power pc back on, bios and windows will boot up. I can then turn the pc off, plug the sata cable back into the HDD, and it boots up fine into windows, but if I reboot again, it goes back to that black screen with the A2.
2. I have put in a disc into the dvd drive, and I do not get that screen. (I've been doing this as a workaround since it's much easier)
I have tried a number of things to resolve this, but none of them have restored my computer to it's perfect working order that it was previous to installing this program.
When I tried to uninstall that program it wasn't even on my installed programs list, so I deleted the folder it was in. This didn't resolve the issue.
I have wiped everything off of my HDD drive. This did not resolve the issue.
I have triple checked that my SSD is the first in the boot order. I even disabled the HDD from the HD boot order entirely. No change...
I updated my motherboard drivers. No change.
It's almost like for whatever reason my BIOS isn't listening to the boot order and doing my DVD drive, HDD, and then the SSD ever since I installed that Gizmo ISO mounting program.
I set the BIOS to factory default settings. That did not fix this issue.
I have use a windows system restore point from 2 days ago when it was working flawlessly. No change.
I'm thinking about reinstalling Windows, but logically it doesn't make sense to do that since the error happens even if I power off/on from BIOS with the HDD plugged in, so it I'm willing to venture that it's not Windows at fault here.
Also the computer used to boot up in like 8 seconds. It's still fast to boot up, but ever since this started to happen, it takes like 15-30 seconds for my usb mouse, and usb keyboard to register after windows starts up. It use to be immediate. My computer is so messed up right now, and I don't even know how it got like this or how to fix it. I'm pretty savvy and can follow directions well, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

What intel USB driver version do you use? There's one more thing to try, try plug the kb/ms to USB 3.0 ports except the ones under the LAN port, and check if it happens again.
I'm glad you recommended checking Intel drivers. I typed appwiz.cpl to go to the installed programs list in windows. Found "intel USB 3.0 extensible host controller". I tried uninstalling this. It made my mouse and keyboard not work for about 1 minutes. Windows downloaded some drivers for my devices, and asked to reboot. I rebooted. Mouse/keyboard responded right away! Just incase it was a fluke I rebooted another 2 times, and each time the mouse and keyboard are immediately responsive. I'm SO glad that my PC is back to it's original working order. Thank you to you all for taking time out of your day to help me. I really appreciate it!

  • Imac will not boot. black screen, no sounds.. but has power.

Hi guys, yesterday my mac would not boot. The screen is black, and the power light on the bottom right hand corner is on. My warranty expired 30 days ago (figures). I stupidly put in a CD to see if the player had power and it did (now I can't get it out). I can hear the fan on, and the DVD drive spinning. I have no chimes or sounds. I removed the memory and started the machine... same thing except the power light started flashing. I put the memory back in and powered it up.. same as before solid light, black screen, and no sounds. I unplugged the unit for a day which did not help. ANY help would be appreciated!
    Imac - Intel   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

First, boot and hold down mouse key to get CD out. then,
    Try this.
Turn on Mac and hold down command-S (Apple S), it will boot into single user mode (white on black). Let it finish.
When it is done type the following.
    fsck -fy
then hit return. It will check the disk and make repairs. It can take several minutes. If it finds errors it will fix and say OK. If so, type fsck -fy and run it again. This time if it doesn't find any errors type
    reboot
Hopefully it will boot into OS X.

:undecided:Problem: System does not boot.  Black screen.
I just put this system together.   I've returned the CPU and motherbd. for exchange, thinking one may be defective.    Still No Boot.   PowerSupply checks out good.   MSI video card checks out good too.   Could it be the memory stick?   Pls. I must wait for my reshippment of my memory.   I returned it, and asked them to test it.    If it tested good, then it probably not compatible with system.   My next option was to order GIGARAM 1GB, since it is on the list of recommended DDR.
Sorry, I cannot reboot at the moment.   Do you think it is the memory, or something else?

  • MSI Z87 GD65 - Hangs on black screen with 9C at bottom right

Pretty much what the title says, 'MSI Z87 GD65 - Hangs on black screen with 9C at bottom right'. Does anyone have any idea why it does this? It hangs for a while before eventually continuing with the start-up, this is most frustrating when I have an SSD and want a quick start-up. I have already looked it up in the manual to no luck. Help?

9C last for me like 1 to 3s, depending on the amount of USB devices attached.   If I have only USB printer, keyboard, and mouse attached, it shows for roughly less than 1.5s.

  • Pavilion G6 2249WM powers on but does not boot - black screen

I have a G6 2249wm that had a message that the fan wasn't working. I had the fan replaced and after it was replaced it would not boot. I could hear the fan running and the caps lock light blinked once about every 5 seconds and the amber wifi light was on. After researching and taking steps outlined in the HP Computer does not start (Windows 8), I found that the code meant that the CPU was bad. I had that replaced and the notebook is still in the same condition. Is there anything else that I can do to get this computer to work?

After troubleshooting a little more I find that when the laptop is started the hard drive does not turn on. I used a USB adapter to plug the hdd into my desktop and found that it does work. I then plugged a different hdd that I know works into the laptop and found the same issue. Does this mean that the motherboard is bad?

    Hello @FLC123,
Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I understand that your notebook computer is producing a blinking light from the caps lock, and that the screen is blank. I would be happy to help you!

  • GS70 - Does not boot - black screen with solid white dash

Sorry for the long post - I've been beating my head against this problem all day, filed a report ticket and really need help from anyone who has ideas.
Yesterday evening after finally relenting and allowing the patch Tuesday updates to install on my GS70 Stealth I tried to power on my computer and it remained stuck at the MSI logo. I waited 3 hours with no success before powering it off and attempting to access the bios by hitting the delete button. The screen turned black except for one non-blinking white dash near the center of the screen. This screen also remains indefinitely and requires a hardware power off to work. I've tried all of the function key presses and recovery shortcuts to no avail.
Eventually I tried to boot into linux via a live USB. I still could not access the bios but, to my surprise, so long as this USB is in my system, Windows happily boots. After this I tried to revert to a system restore point before the updates but that did not resolve the problem. I also tried to update the BIOS but there is no way to install BIOS updates that I know of that doesn't require accessing the old BIOS first (which I cannot do because the black screen with a white dash is still all that shows up). I tried forcing the UEFI bios to load through windows recovery settings with no luck either.
I've sent in an RMA/Support request and hopefully MSI will repair or replace my device but I sent it in for an RMA literally less than two months ago and to be having to do it again so soon is starting to turn me off of the product. For me to insure and ship my device to MSI costs a little over $100 each time which is rapidly turning this $1600 product into an $1800 one and turning me from an MSI brand loyalist to a 'one-star-review everywhere' evangelist. Is it possible that something MSI did during the last RMA screwed up my motherboard (they replaced the disfunctional steel series keyboard with a new marginally more functional steel series keyboard)? Does MSI ever cover the shipping costs for an RMA if the RMA is a result of damage that they caused to the device? Is there anything I should do to try to avoid burning more money trying to get a luxury-priced product I've already paid for to function?

i had similar problem myself on my first GS70 it has some sort of bios problem that it random hangs itself :/ causes OS not to boot and bios refuses to load but i managed to get my recovery USB to boot but not bios yet so i sent laptop off for repair they replaced the motherboard so i got it back then i had an faulty gpu :/ so i took it back and got money back so i bought new one some where else since than i havent had problem so this sort of problem sounds like bios firmware isnt booting propertly :/ so have you tried removing msata and HDD from laptop and then power laptop on? to see if bios gets forced on if so power it off put msata back on and so then power laptop back on and bios shall work again

  • Imac G5 will not boot, Grey screen. Please help!

Please forgive me if this posting is a bit lengthy!
My Mac had been on sleep mode for 2 days, when I tried to wake it up a message popped up stating that a system failure had occurred (Darwin Kernal version 7.7.2: etc). I shut it down and tried to restart only to get a grey screen and with the spinning gearlike timer and after about a minute the fan started to run at full power upon which I turned it off via the power button on the rear. I tried several times to re-boot but the same thing happened each time.
I have tried to start up using the ‘safe-boot’ mode (held down shift after chime and released upon seeing Apple logo and spinning gear timer). After a few seconds however, the screen goes blank and the start-up chime repeats only to be followed once again by the grey screen, spinning gear and fan running at full speed. No progress
The Apple website suggests using the ‘Software Install or Restore’ disc which came with the computer. However, I don’t have this disc, only ‘Apple hardware test’ and ‘Mac OSX Install’ (3 discs) came in the box.
I checked the system using the ‘Apple Hardware Test’ CD (by holding down the C-key during start-up) using both the quick and advanced check but no problems were reported.
I then ran Disc Utility from the first installation disc to repair permissions on the HD which was successful. However, after re-starting the machine, once again the same grey screen appeared with no apparent progress.
I then tried to check for damage using the ‘fsck’, recommended by Apple if ‘safe boot’ mode cannot be run. After starting up in single-user mode I typed the following prompt: /sbin/fsck –fy. It ran through a quick phrase list but then delivered the line ‘Volume Check Failed’. I faired no better when I repeated the process over again.
I have never updated the software with Apple updates since I bought the machine (don’t laugh), mainly because I don’t have a broadband internet connection at home, could there be a bug in Panther OSX that needed fixing with a later update?
I have no ‘add-ons’ plugged in other than the keyboard and mouse. I don’t think it can be a firmware problem, I am the only user and have not changed any settings relating to access permissions.
This is my first Mac and so my experience of problem solving is quite limited. I am not a Mac expert and to be honest am confused by much of the jargon. The computer is now two years old and therefore out of warranty so I don’t want to take it to my local Mac shop if I can solve the problem myself.
I’m a bit concerned as there are many documents that I have not backed-up (foolish I know).
I don’t know how I can attempt to rectify anything if the machine will not even boot-up in safe mode!?!
Could the problem be something to do with the PRAM settings, might the internal battery be dead bearing in mind that the machine is now 2 years old?
Would it be possible to re-install Panther from the original discs, I have read that this will not loose any files but can somebody confirm this?
Can anybody offer some advice as to what I might try to get the Mac to start-up and avoid any problems in the future? Any advice will be much appreciated.
    Imac G5   Mac OS X (10.3)   80Gb HD / 768Mb RAM

Please accept my apologies regarding the time it has taken for me to get back to you. Since we last spoke I have been away on vacation.
Upon my return I attempted to follow your advice but it would seem that my problems are more significant than I had originally anticipated.
First, as you recommended I reset the PRAM by holding down the required keys from start-up, until the machine re-started.
I then attempted to perform the ‘Archive and Install’ process for OS10.3 (Panther) from the original software discs, making sure to select ‘Preserve User Settings and Preferences’.
My Mac first went through a ‘Checking your Installation Disc’ phase (10 mins) before starting the next phase ‘Checking Target Volume Consistency’. However, after only a few seconds it stopped with the pop-up message ‘There were errors installing the software’. I repeated the process but got the same message.
I decided to run Disc Utility once again from Disc 1, upon which I realised that I had previously only run Verify & Repair Disc Permissions, not Verify Disc or Repair Disc.
I decided to try to Verify Disc under First Aid, however, this was where the trouble started. I got the following message on screen:
"The Volume Macintosh HD needs to be repaired.
    Volume Check Failed
Error: The Underlying task reported failure on exit (-9972)
    1 Volume checked
    HFS Volumes verified
    1 Volume failed verification."
Obviously I am assuming this problem is preventing me from performing an ‘Archive and Install’. Now I’m a bit concerned that my problem could be very serious, bearing in mind that so many of my files are not backed up.
I’d be very grateful for more wise advice as to what to try next.

  • C700 Laptop: Not booting: Black screen: No BIOS

My 4 years old Compaq Presario c700 (C794) laptop is not booting up. Does not go into BIOS, and does not even show the message “Press F10 to enter BIOS” etc.
I see a clear black screen (but has backlit and I am able to adjust the brightness using Fn keys). Tried on the desktop monitor, it is black too.
The HD is running intermittently, all LEDs are on, and the fan is running.
Windows is not booting up, there is no log on sound. WIFI light is also orange, it becomes green after booting is complete. HD activity is on but it is not as much to boot up Windows 7.
    Troubleshooting I did till now:
Hard reset by holding down the power button several times.
Cleaned RAM and placed it in another slot.
Removed the power and battery and kept it overnight.
Tried on the desktop monitor, it is black too.
This happened all of a sudden. I did not do any BIOS updates or anything that normally causes these kind of problem. I learned from some forums that an exhausted CMOS battery can cause it. Is it true? In this case, can you please give the location of the CMOS battery in these laptops?
What are the other measures I can take?

  • Compaq CQ56 Laptop/Will not reboot/black screen

Hi...I am new to this forum...I have a Compaq CQ56 laptop....just recently while updating my spyware and installing my updates, when the system reboots the screen remains black....I launch the system repair...it takes  me to the system restore window...did the system restore and the computer rebooted just fine....however everytime I need to install an update and reboot...I run into the same issue each time.  Ran the Hard disk and Memory diagnostic test and that passed without any issue.  I did notice a loud noise which I assume was coming from the fan....not sure.
Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2762895) failed at the install.  Is there another fix outside of having to take in for repair?
    Thank you for your time

    Hello Nana53
Do you only run into the problem when you try to install just the Windows 7 update (KB2762895) or does it happen when trying to update any application? You said the screen is black, so how did you perform the system repair? Are you referring to the black screen as the screen goes black while windows is trying to load and you do see the BIOS and boot options?
Searching the internet I have found mixed feelings and problems with users installing the Windows update. It seems to be meant to improve compatibility of programs, however, some applications aren't liking the changes.

In your case it isn't working. You can hide it from view so that you don't need to update it. This should prevent the problem from reoccurring. Hide Windows 7 Updates that you do not Ever Want to Install

  • Ideacenter B540 AIO does not boot (black screen)

    I have Ideacenter AIO B540. Windown 8.1  64bit
after booting the computer, I see that the computer turns on but nothing happens, black screen. the lenovo logo does not appear- nothing. shutting it down (hard) and rebooting again - nothing happens. the only solution i found is to "let it cool" (it was not hot from the first place..) for few hours and then rebooting it and it usually helps but clearly something goes wrong.
Please advise what could be the issue?

I had an HP desktop that used to do that to me.  It would randomly just shut off then give me a black screen whenever I tried to turn it back on.  Usually if I let it sit overnight it would work again in the morning, at least for awhile until it did it again.  At first it was once every week or two then became more frequent.  It ended up being something wrong with the motherboard.  A port went bad or something, I bought a replacement board for about $80 and it worked fine again.  Granted it also cost me around $60 to have it diagnosed at a local repair shop, but I got another couple years out of it.

  • Z97 PC MATE - Second GPU will not display / black screen

Using Z97 PC MATE with 2 nvidia cards (GeForce GTX970 and GeForce GETX750ti). My goal is to use the 750ti for dual display with the 970 reserved for compute in a 3D software package (houdini simulations). If both cards are installed on the mobo and one monitor is plugged into the 750ti, it will not display, not even the BIOS screen. Also there is no audio, there is normally a chime when the OS lock screen is reached and that never plays.
The 750ti is plugged into the PCEe 2.0 slot, the 970 the 3.0 slot. Both cards can display in their respective buses by themselves if only one card is installed. If both are installed, the 970 will output a display as expected.  I have also tried an older quadro card in the 2.0 slot and it also defaulted to the 970 in the 3.0 slot. With one display plugged into the 970, and one in the 750ti I have gotten an image to display on the 750ti. But never with only one monitor plugged into the 750 attempting to use that card as the main display.
I have used m flash to update the bios to 4.6, but I never used the disc which came with the mobo to update. I thought maybe there is a GPU display priority in the BIOS but I'm not seeing it. I see there is a way to prioritize UEFI and legacy, and Gen1, 2 or 3, but don't know how that should be set up for this (if that is the problem). I would think if that were the case though the audio at the lock screen would still play, but I don't know.
My current nvidia driver version is 342.22, I am using Ubuntu 14.04 as linux OS operates better with the software I am using. I have also posted to the Ubuntu forums about this, but thought I would post here because the BIOS screen doesn't display which makes me think it could be hardware related. Although all of the hardware is detected properly and appears to be functioning as expected.
This issue was reproduced with and without the HDD connected.
    Hardware:
    i7 4790k
    EVGA GTX970 and EVGA GTX750ti
    Z97 PC MATE
    32gb PNY DDR3-1866 240-pin DIMM
Antec Truepower Classic 750w gold certified
    PNY Optima 480gb SSD  - PNY SSD7SC480GOPT-RB
    Hitachi 2TB ultrastar HDD
I am not sure at this point how to continue troubleshooting this issue, or if this is not possible for this mobo and I just didn't recognize that. One test I was considering is putting the 970 in my old computer (MSI 970FX-GD70) and seeing if the results are the same. Will post any additional required information.
    thanks!

Did you install your graphic driver when both vgas are on? Let the driver detect both vga then you can just switch cable and display well. Use the latest 344.65 driver. As for the 3D package, you need to make sure the software support or can change the settings that which vga to compute.
But there's one thing I need to make sure first, does your vga work with only one vga on pcie 2.0 slot? Just wanna be sure it's not faulty slot...

  • T410i not booting / black screen

    Hi all,
Yesterday I installed Windows 7 Professional (had Linux before) and I installed the latest Intel graphics driver along with the latest BIOS update. In the middle of the of BIOS installation the system froze. I shut it down by holding the power button and now the system wont boot. I've had no such issues before so I'm thinking there might be a correlation between the failed BIOS update and the black screen.
When I press the power button all the LEDs light up usual, there's no beep, and no screen activity at all, pitch black.
I've pulled out the RAM (all of it), HDD, Ultrabay, battery and even the on-board battery under the keyboard.
    Any thoughts are much appreciated!
