Wily Introscope Enterprise Manager fails to start due to Java Heap

Hello All,
I just installed Wily Introscope for the first time. I have successfully installed it from the log below:
Summary
Installation: Successfulwith errors.
396 Successes
0 Warnings
1 NonFatalErrors
0 FatalErrors
I also confirm that the Introscope Enterprise Manager is started as a service.
However, when i try to launch enterprise by following the path All Programs > CA Wily > Introscope 8.2.3.5 > Introscope Enterprise Manager....
I get the error below:
3/29/11 07:11:46 PM PDT [ERROR] [Manager.Bootstrap] Load all Management Modules FAILED.
3/29/11 07:11:46 PM PDT [ERROR] [Manager] The EM failed to start. Java heap space
I have also adapted my Java Heap from 512 to 1024 in EMService.conf file but I still get same error. This was the recommendation in this related forum post - Wily Introscope - EM failed to start
Please help!!!!

Hello,
Like I said, I have increased the value to 1024MB and still not starting.

    Thank you v much, Viji

    Hi David:
It worked fine previously.  This has been installed  a while ago ( a couple of years). We did have a couple of problems recently with corrupt data files.  Deleting the concerned datafile and restarting Wily solved the problem.  However I haven't a clue on how to get this going.
    thanks , Viji

  • Wily Introscope Enterprise Manager Can't be accessed

    Hi Experts,
I installed Solution Manager 7.0 EHP1 and executed basic configuration. And I followed the instruction to install wily EM 8.0. But after installation, the web pages http://emhost:8081/workstation and http://emhost:8081/webview cannot be accessed. Error msg is "404 Not Found The requested resource does not exist."
I've checked the wily log and found no errors. How to solve the problem?

    Hi ,
Check if the installation of EM 8.0 was successful or not.
For the same, please check <Introscopehome>/install/Introscopeinstall.log.
I am hoping your installation is successful. Then please perform some other checks.
Please start your Introscope Enterprise Manager service from Windows Services [ for other OS please refer to guide]
    Check the <IntroscopeHome>/log/IntroscopeEnterpriseManager.log
file for an Error entry.. there may be a possibility that the Port 8081 [or 8080] is already in use.
Similar format to error message :::
"EM Web Server did not start.  Port already in use: 8080  To change the Web Server port, modify the EM property: introscope.enterprisemanager.webserver.port "
If yes, then please modify the \conf\EnterpriseManager.properties file
    introscope.enterprisemanager.webserver.port=8080
    OR
    introscope.enterprisemanager.webserver.port=any other open port
For more details about changing port please refer to Thread

I hope the provided information will be helpful.

  • Wily Introscope - The EM failed to start. Java heap space

    Dear SAP gurus,
I just installed Instroscope Version 8.2.3.5 but I am getting the following error when I started with the command "./EMCtrl.sh start":
10/13/11 08:37:51 AM UTC [ERROR] [Manager.TransactionTracer] Throwable exception updating the index java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space

Therefore, it is not accessible using the Introscope Workstation.
I check that ports 8081and 6001 are free.
After I increased the heap space from 2G to 3G, I could access using Introscope Workstation (http://emhost:8081/workstation) obtaining the following error though:

    Hi Marc,
Check if you have configured the JAVA heap space correctly, refer to KBA 1630229 depending on the OS you have to configure the java memory in different locations.

  • RE:The OPMN Process Manage failed to start.

    Hi everybody,
Can anybody help with following issue below, please?
I just install Oracle unbreakable linux operating system. I am trying to install infrastructure on it. All the time i am get error "The OPMN Process Manager failed to start". I changed the system requirement like it stated to the installation manual. But I am still getting same error.
I will appreciate to one will give me solution for this problem.
    Thank,
    Arthur

    Poa,
The operating system is Red Hat Enterprise version 4 ( 86-64 bits). My computer specifications: Process is Dual core AMD x86 64bits, and RAM is 2GB. I am trying to install Oracle Application Server 10g Release 2 (10.1.2). I checked all the prerequisite before attempting installation.
    Thank you,
    Arthur

  • OPMN Process Manager failed to start - libmodapi.so libclntsh.so not found

    Hi all,
I am completely new to Oracle in its entirety. I am trying to install Oracle Enterprise Manager Grid Console 10.2.0.1.0 on Oracle Enterprise Linux 5.1 through the OUI using the new database install. When I get to setting up the Oracle Application Server, it tells me the OPMN Process Manager failed to start, tells me to check the logs in /oms10g/opmn/logs, and to start OPMN manually before hitting retry.
The log files in that directory do not seem to contain any errors.
When I run ./opmnctl stopall, ./opmnctl startall, ./opmnctl status, I get no obvious errors, and then the following:
    DSA ~ DSA ~ Down
    HTTP_Server ~ HTTPServer ~ Alive
    LogLoader ~ logloaderd ~ Down
    dcm-daemon ~ dcm-daemon ~ Down
    OC4J ~ home ~ Alive
    WebCache ~ WebCache ~ Alive
    WebCache ~ WebCacheAdmin ~ Alive
When I do ./opmn start I get the following:
./opmn: error while loading shared libraries: libmodapi.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
When I do a ldd ./opmn I get the following errors:
    libmodapi.so => not found
    libclntsh.so.10.1 => not found
I am assuming my problem is that these two libraries are not linked in. I have looked through the forums, and found closely related threads, but none that seemed to help, most notably changing my PATH. If anyone has any suggestions, I would welcome them. Thanks for your help.
    Sincerely,
    Don

    Hi All,
We all agree that best practice involves a test installation. My original post was about a problem I was having with the creation of my test bed. I did create my own manual, which I am sure is not the best manual ever created, but does work to get the software installed. If it is proven out, I will post it to try and return something to the community.
In order to do this, I needed to read thousands of pages of documentation so far, which does not even scratch the surface of the total amount on OTN. I am still revising my instructions as I find that the documentation commonly assumes the reader has been installing Oracle for some time and is fully aware of all the appropriate acronyms and the entire logical and physical structure of the database. In order to just read many of the documents, I had to draw out a map of Oracle on a whiteboard as I went. As a systems administrator, should I have to search through all those papers, manuals, the web, etc. and try to gain an advanced DBA understanding to get a working default installation? Perhaps it seems like I am just a new user who is whining, but how many programs can you think of where this type of effort is required?
In looking at the relationship between the DBA and the Systems Administrator, where should we draw a line between their tasks?
Should the DBA have to learn how to assess appropriate server hardware, and then install and administrate every flavor of Windows, UNIX, Linux, etc. in any given environment? Should a DBA be required to build a Linux kernel, configure Active Directory, or install Solaris before installing Oracle?
Should the Systems Administrator have to learn the nuances of installing and optimizing Oracle databases in order to just put the base software on the system and configure the kernel so it is ready for a DBA?
More interesting, as stated above, I could hand you the Gentoo Handbook, and without knowing a single thing about Gentoo Linux, you would have a default installation of the Gentoo OS. You could also grab step-by-step instructions for a default installation of MySQL on Gentoo, or a myriad of other programs, for that matter. This would hardly replace the Gentoo systems administrator or MySQL DBA, but it does serve a very valid purpose of enabling the systems administrator and DBA. Shouldn’t Oracle have something similar?
I would think the Systems Administrator knowledgeable in the OS and Kernel should be able to perform the first half of the installation task where they are more likely to be an expert, and then allow the DBA to create and optimize the databases they install, which they in turn can spend years learning how to do. Time that the DBA spends learning the OS or time the Systems Administrator spends learning Oracle is valuable in the long run, but it is also extra time to get the initial database up and running. One of the largest reasons IT personnel exist at all is to keep users from having to spend too much time learning about their computers to get their work done. Shouldn’t this also translate between IT groups?
Databases are one of the few software installations that systems administrators commonly don't have to maintain on corporate servers. The best comparison I know of is web services. In this manner web servers are very similar, and are commonly installed by a team as well. I am perfectly capable of creating a default install of Apache, Tomcat, or IIS from step-by-step instructions provided by Apache or Microsoft without much more tailored information than the IP address and system name we are going to use to fill in the blanks during the installation.
While I have performed the role of sole IT staff at a small software engineering company, and have therefore been the SysNetWebSecDB admin hydra in the past, in larger companies there seems to be no problem with having the system administrator create a default installation of Apache or IIS, having the network team configure the switches and DMZ, and having the web team customize the server and design the site without each of them having to know everything.
So the above is a good idea and I would encourage
them to do it because after that, it makes them
stonger than when they use an already completed one
to install.Sometimes there is time to sit down and read all the instructions and become a more robust IT professional. Sometimes there is only time to read the Getting Started section and you have to read the full instructions and optimize later if there is time. Sometimes you have outside influences that mean it has to get done in less time than it should, whether or not the justification for rushing is reasonable.
Should I plan to read every knowledge base article ever published by Microsoft in order to create a test bed installation of Windows 2008? Honestly, I’d still be reading the NT4 docs.
Not only does not every business have a DBA, or the money to hire one, sometimes the business does not want to do so, or sometimes the security is such that the DBA is not part of the unit allowed to utilize administrative access on the servers. That doesn’t mean they don’t need a database tomorrow.
As an IT professional, I will never be able to come close to encompassing the amount of knowledge I actually could use to do my job. I try to specialize in a few areas so that I have the ability to keep up with the exponential rate of IT expansion, but I basically consider a vast part of my job being constantly thrown into the deep end, and, fair or not, getting things done anyway. Hopefully that makes me good at my job. The question is how much time and effort I should need to apply before I can get to a reasonable starting point where everyone else can do their work too.
    There
is normally no single document to achieve or complete
and installation unless the bespoke type. Apart from
the Install Guide, there could be Readme, Release
notes, Adendum etc. While I noted in a previous post that I shouldn't be too hard on Oracle in trying to document such a massive effort, that doesn’t mean that their documentation doesn’t need work. Why is the documentation for a single product spread out over tens of thousands of pages? It should be obvious that this has resulted in redundant and often conflicting documents, including the dozen readme documents in the installation files, the readme documents in the installed files, the install guide, the readme and addendum for each of those, the release notes for each of those, and a new set for each patch.
Obviously, for any installation, I need to complete a document for my own environment that contains the proper network configuration for our own LAN, or the proper partitioning. I do this for any program. Oracle needs me to change the name of the OS install to get their installer not to error out on their own OS. If OFA is so desirable, why not make the default install explain and follow OFA? Basic issues like this are highly avoidable, and shouldn’t be seen by the end user, even if in this case the end user is a highly technical audience capable of adjusting.
It will hard to get a single document because they
will be platform dependent and what someone did in
their install, may not always work everywhere.Again, please note that Oracle has "released" an OS that they intend for people to use on their Oracle validated hardware as a premier platform for their Oracle database. It isn't a stretch to feel that Oracle should then be able to provide valid, step-by-step instructions for a default installation of their own software, on validated hardware, on their own OS. I’m not expecting an optimized and populated database, but if the hardware, OS, and software are all under Oracle’s control, there aren’t really any variables other than machine name and IP address for a default install.
Hopefully my current knowledge will work for the time being, and I will be able to optimize appropriately in the future as I can.

  • Dreaded "Operations Manager failed to start a process" error (2012 R2)

I know this error has been covered many times, and on many topics, but this time mine is slightly different.   It's
    NOT the
"SCOMpercentageCPUTimeCounter" error covered by Kevin Holman.
Also, I am running SCOM 2012 R2 UR4 (7.1.10226.1046) and everything seems correctly patched (MS and agents), like
suggested by Nicole Welch and Kevin Holman as well.
So my environment is a fresh installation of SCOM 2012 R2, and I am transferring to this new Management Group, the monitored servers from our old SCOM 2012 "R1" (which I did not upgrade but rather made a brand new independent install).  So
all servers aren't migrated yet, but I would like to solve this error before. This error did NOT happen in "R1", nor was it overridden (I imported the exact same Management Packs anyway).
On 2012 R2, it happens on almost all new monitored machines, mainly Read-Only Domain Controllers (RODCs).
Here is the kind of alert text I am getting:
Het om 10:10:15 gestarte proces is beëindigd als gevolg van een uitvoerverzamelfout als gevolg van fout 0x80070057 :
    The parameter is incorrect.
; mogelijk zijn er gegevens verloren gegaan.

Dit is van invloed op een of meer werkstromen.
    Werkstroomnaam: Microsoft.Windows.Server.2008.AD.DomainController.GCSearchTime.Monitor
    Exemplaarnaam: RODC02
Our servers have Belgian (Dutch) regional settings, hence the language. But check out the highlighted info in bold.
The related event Number (in Alert Context) is 21404. Most other articles about this, mention 21402 or 21403. I suppose they all must be related but still, it's a new one here.
There you have the failing VBS file. I checked all alerts and there seem to be different files concerned overall. Other examples:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Monitoring Agent\Agent\Health Service State\Monitoring Host Temporary Files 233\22737\AD_Database_and_Log.vbs    (from almost all RODCs)
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Monitoring Agent\Agent\Health Service State\Monitoring Host Temporary Files 196\19876\Microsoft.Windows.Server.Legacy.FreeSpace.vbs
      (also from an RODC)
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft System Center 2012 R2\Operations Manager\Server\Health Service State\Monitoring Host Temporary Files 5891\338282\Microsoft.Windows.Server.CPUUtilization.Monitortype.vbs 95 15
SCOM02.mydomain.be 1.4119384288787842     (this one is from my second Management Server..)
Repeat count of the alert is 1 to 2 a day, so it's not nightmareish, but still, requires to be fixed. I suspect that even if there is a different VBS file concerned, since the eventID and the alert text are the same, the repeat count will just increase,
not showing the last actual VBS concerned.
I connect to each of these servers, and browse to the directory containing the file, and the folder is there, the file is there.  The error text mentions incorrect parameters but they still seem OK to me.
I found something which might be worth noting:  when browsing to the directory, be it on an RODC or on the SCOM server, I get a permission popup requiring some admin rights to do so - although I am using my domain admin (+SCOM+SQL+local
    admin everywhere) account:
SCOM services use the Local System account to run, on every machine. I thought Local System shouldn't be concerned with these permissions popups, but normally the domain/local admins aren't either, yet I am.
The "Health service" folder is the only one from the "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Monitoring Agent\Agent" folder to be concerned with this; I can browse without trouble to any other directory there.
After a SCOM service stop, I renamed the "Health Service state" folder (as you can see on the screenshot, there is a "Health Service State bak" folder) and let the service recreate it after a restart, to ensure it was clean and with
appropriate permissions , but it doesn't help.
    Might that be a clue?
Or else what?  I'm getting confused and don't find a suitable solution.

"The Remote Desktop software may not be installed correctly or the computer may require a restart"
It installed something in the system on first launch then popped up with this message. My main concern is that it pooched my system in the process by replacing something new in Mac OS X 10.5.3 with something old from ARD 3.2...
Restarting now but who knows, might not be back for a while... %-\

Kill the "ARDAgent" program, either in Activity Monitor or Terminal, and it will start back up again. When you see it running again(make sure it's a new instance via the PID), you should be able to start Remote Desktop up without any problems after that.

  • The Remote Desktop administrator software failed to start due to an unexpected error...

    Hi all...
Suddenly, I'm getting this error message when I try to open ARD. It was working a week ago and I'm not aware of changing anything. Any advice?
This is the 3.6.1 version of the ARD admin and I have the 3.6.2 Client installed (that was the way it was before, too, when it was working).
Note: I did try a fix from the forums that was posted in 2009, which required deleting the ARDAgent from the RemoteManagement folder in System/Core Services... and then reinstalling again using the Apple ARD Admin download for same. It worked for one run of the program, then the error came back.
    What do you guys think?

Updated from 10.5.1 to 10.5.2. System seemed slow at first, noticeable keyboard lag and otherwise sluggish. Noticed that Remote Desktop no longer worked. Installed Graphics update. No more typing lag and speedier performance. Remote Desktop still dead.
    Error message:
The Remote Desktop Administrator software failed to start due an unexpected error.
    Hmphf.
You may have to reinstall the Remote Desktop SW. See if that helps.
I don't think it's a coincidence that this update "fixed" the Remote Desktop SUID warning, and it also removed the potential update from my computer which I had placed on "Ignore" since I did not need it and did not need the warning, either. So there is a connection between this update and the Remote Desktop SW.

Can anybody has idea?.Thanks in advance.

    hi Kamran,
    Please remember to always give some details about what product/ type/ version/ platform are you working with. this does not leave others to wait for divine revelation or mortal guessing;
also on reporting errors, please provide exact error(s) with error codes as you see and not the error described in your words. that helps clearly understand the problem.
about current problem, please tell us what did you expect to see and what did you exactly get.
and Roberto is right, check the version in %ORACLE_HOME%\config\ias.properties.

  • SCOM 2012 Operations Manager Failed to start a process

We have recently upgraded from SCOM 2007 to SCOM 2012. We are not getting a great deal of “Operations Manager Failed to start a process”. The process varies including:
    DiscoverSQL2008ASDiscovery.vbs
    DiscoverSQL2008DBEngineDiscovery.vbs
    DiscoverSQL2008ASDiscovery.vbs
    Microsoft.Windows.Server.NetwokAdapter.BandwidthUsed.ModuleType.vbs
I have researched and researched. I know that you can try to run the scripts locally on the machine but it seems the scripts never make it to the machine. I go to the path in the error, no luck. I look in the other folders as I know that SCOM moves the scripts,
and I even search the entire C drive but the scripts are not getting to the server. The folder is not even making it. For example:
    Command executed: "C:\Windows\system32\cscript.exe" /nologo "Microsoft.Windows.Server.NetwokAdapter.BandwidthUsed.ModuleType.vbs" SERVER true Working Directory: C:\Program Files\System Center Operations Manager\Agent\Health Service State\Monitoring
    Host Temporary Files 11606\1759\
The script is not there and the folder \1759 is not there either.
I have removed and reinstalled the client.
Antivirus is fine, up to date and not blocking on any of the machines.
I have stopped the “System Center Management service” and renamed the “Health Service State” folder and it recreates fine but not long after I get the warning in SCOM about “Operations Manager Failed to start a process”.
I look in event viewer for Operations Manager on this particular one and I see a lot of:
Performance data from the Health Service could not be collected since required registry keys could not be read, the error was 2L (The system cannot find the file specified.). Event ID 6001.
    I tried the fix of
"lodctr MOMConnectorCounters.ini" and "lodctr HealthServiceCounters.ini" but I get “error
encountered while updating text in registry. Status: 0”. Again I am using SCOM 2012.
Do I need to look at each failed script or is there a overall issue because the scripts are not making it to the machines. Any ideas?

I guess you might need to run "mofcomp sqlmgmproviderxpsp2up.mof".
    Thanks, S K Agrawal
