Window Listener question

Hi,
I need to add a window listener to a JFrame so as to run a method when another programm gains the focus or the window is Iconfied.
I thoughth that windowDeactivated would be ok but this doesn't seem to work. I suppose i don't have to use the windowIconfied method; there must be another method which runs when the window loses the focus or it is iconfied.
Any help please?

Well, i want to listen to the frame events and do sth each time
For example
public void windowDeactivated(WindowEvent e){
System.out.println("Window Deactivated");}using the above code shouldn't print "Window Deactivated" every time window is iconfied or another programm or folder gets the focus?

How to add Window Listener

Basically, I have created a simple window. I am having trouble adding a window listener so that when the user clicks the x to exit the program, it exits. Here is the code I have.

my problem is i have some drawing in the panel.when i minimize the window it will disappear because it is dynamically getting drawn.So, for capuring the old drawing, i store the coordinates into the vector and
trying to redraw by calling a method when applet gets
maximized.
Initially the application was a stand alone , so i used
JFrame and window listener and whenever frame gets activated , i used to redraw the line . Now we have changed to applet.
And i tried to implement window listener, i could not able to add listener to the contenetPane.
So i decided to call my drawing method from START(),Since start is been called whenever applet is activated.I decided to do so.
But the problem is ,it is calling the method,identifying the
coordinates but the lines are not appearing in the screen.
My suspection is, it is drawing the line and once again
repainting the screen automatically.
If u people wants to see am ready to post the code.

Windows Listener - WindowClosing Question

Hi!
Yesterday I asked here how to do something when JFrame is closing (You suggest me to use windowlistener).
Now I have another doubt!
I want to show a DialogBox before close the JFrame asking the user if he really want to close it.
If he clicks in cancel button, the JFrame won't close.
How do I stop the closing process of a JFrame?

11g Windows Listener Problem

Hi,
I have recently installed 11g on my Windows box.
I am getting the following problem when I try to use SQL Developer to connect via tnsnames:
TNS-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor
It works fine if I hard code the values (localhost:1521:orcl11g).
Everything is fine with my 10gR2 installation, I can use the tnsnames to connect to the 10g instance.
Does anybody have any ideas what the problem could be?

It is the same problem which occurs with every Oracle product ending up in a different home, so this question is asked over and over again by people who never read anything and assume they are unique.
I can guarantee you: you are not unique, you are just one of a horde of millions, not reading installation manuals, not researching anythinjg, but just dumping this error in some forum (maybe all forums you can spell), including the wrong ones, like this one.
So here goes, YET AGAIN:
You have MULTIPLE tnsnames.ora floating around, and either you need to set them or you need to set TNS_ADMIN, AS DOCUMENTED.
PLEASE READ THOSE DOCS, THEY ARE WRITTEN FOR YOU TO READ THEM, INSTEAD OF ASKING OTHERS TO DO FOR FREE WHAT YOU COULD HAVE DONE.

It seems the “avgwfpx.sys” file is related to AVG. Please try removing AVG and see if it works.

Windows listener service will not start automatically

I just installed 11.2.0.3 Standard Edition One and when I reboot the server, the listener service is not started. The service is set to start Automatically. I have to login, open services and then push start.
The oraceServiceSId does start automatically,
The listerner service does not start automatically,
The dbconsole service does not start automatically,
The processManger1 service (from middleware) does not start automatically
This is Windows 7 64 bit.
Any ideas?

I found where the services logs are recorded in the event viewer. Funny thing just happened, I was just about to do another reboot so I could check the logs when I noticed there were window updates in q.
So after running the updates, the os requested to reboot . For the first time, the services started automatically.
These are the updates which fixes the probem:
Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2639417)
Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 9 for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2618444)
Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2620712)

Windows listener +service does not start automatically eventhough Automatic

Hi
When I restart the database server, the listener is not starting automatically , so as the service.
Both are set to start automatically.
This was working before and all of a sudden, this problem appeared.
I dont remember changing any setting on the database side but on windows server side, not sure if anything is changed.

So now we have to manually restart the listener and service , for the database to be opened. Is it possible to give direction what areas need to check, to solve this issue?

Can you confirm my understanding here:
* Since a short time the automatic startup of the listener and Oracle instance fail.
* You can manually startup the listener and database instance without any problem, and then all runs as expected
so far so good?
What's your procedure to start the listener and DB instances?
Are you performing the startups with your own user account, or SYSTEM, or a dedicated Oracle account?
Are the windows services running under SYSTEM, a dedicated Oracle user....??
Could it be that the system administrator installed something (like a new Oracle client) which would have changed some settings?
Can you compare the environment variables (ORACLE_HOME, ORACLE_SID, PATH) between the account YOU use for manual startup and those for the user account used to (auto)start the services?
Maybe you can try to plan a reboot after you have set the problematic services to run under your profile?
Well.... a few points to investigate if not yet considered.

A Few Windows 7 Questions

Hello, and thanks for taking the time.
I'm looking forward to Apple's official support of Windows 7, and need a bit of help with a few questions I have.
1) My Macbook Pro was purchased before Snow Leopard was released, and then upgraded to Snow Leopard from a 29 dollar retail disk. Will I need my Leopard discs to install the Windows drivers, or the Snow Leopard disc? And, if Leopard, WHICH disk?
2) Can I resize a partition after it has been partitioned via Boot Camp?
3) Can I use Boot Camp to partition an external hard drive and install Windows 7 (when supported) on THAT partition?

Just an FYI for you.
It is always best to check with the software manufacturer FIRST. They will tell you if they have tested the product and the version, as well as whether or not it will work with Windows 7.

There is a pulldown from which you can choose "hardware" and "software".

In any event a lot of the times, Vista drivers will work in lieu of Windows 7 drivers, however, it's not 100%!
I will tell you from first hand experience, all of my systems have been converted to Windows 7. I am not just saying it to say because I am affiliated with Microsoft. I can truly stand behind this product and tell you straight
away it works very reliably, fast and extremely stable. The 64bit version is a real powerhouse as well.
Anyways, what to say about Windows 7?

MacBook & Windows applications question..

Hello,
I have been a PC user all of my life but I am very seriously considering purchasing a MacBook 13 inch. I will mostly be using the laptop for MS Office and for web browsing, and I know that Office is available for Macs nowadays. However, there are one or two applications I will need to use.
My question, and I am sure you all have heard this many times before: What exactly do I need to purchase/download to do this? I had read that most people use something called Virtual PC, but have read that that program does not work with the Intel Macs...the new Touche commercial though says something about a program called Parallels? I haven't been able to find much info on that though...
My understanding is that I would have to purchase both Windows XP AND Parallels...
1) Is this correct?
2) Where do I find Parallels / cost?
3) Does this work on the Intel MacBook 13 inch laptops?
4) Will just about any Windows application work assuming the specs matchup?

I have always been a PC user, too, and I have now had my 13"macbook for six days. In addition, I am absolutely no techie, just an average user. I chose parallels after trying boot camp because 1) I can switch back and forth without shutting down; and 2) in parallels I can set up a 2-finger tap right click which is similar to what I'm used to, while in boot camp I had to remember some fancy sequence thing.
It's been absolutely great, I'm thrilled to death with my switch, but it has been far from problem-free and I have even occasionally reached the point where I wanted to fling the macbook from the balcony. But I restrained myself, and after 6 days of 12-hour a day frustration learning a new system, I think I absolutely have the best of both worlds. Already, I'm spending more time on the mac side, with only a few programs left exclusively on the windows side, and I love this machine more than any VAIO I've owned before.
I would say DEFINITELY do it, but remember that you're a bleeding edge pioneer here, especially if you intend to continue to spend time in windows, which most mac users disdain, and it may take a bit of time and patience before everything works the way you want it to. But when it does -- it's quite a rush!!
In conclusion, do it, decide if you want to use boot camp or parallels to run your windows from (there's plenty of discussion of this on the internet), then steel yourself to learn mac OS, and retreat into your windows when it gets too difficult. If you enjoy a challenge, you like to learn new things, and you want a computer that can do what no other can do, you will love this. If you just want something to work seamlessly in the way you are used to doing, then why are you even considering a mac?

Quick windows update question

I searched and couldn't find exactly what I was looking for.
So I installed windows xp SP3, and so far it's going good. My question is will any of the normal windows updates mess up anything at this point.

Window.opener question

Hello,
I understand that the windeo.opener reference the parent window. My question is, if I have a parent page and this page calls page2 and page2 calls page3, how can I reference the parent page from page3?
I am using window.opener."the applet name" but I get an error:
Something like:
The callee server is unavailable and has disappeared.
Can anyone help me solve this problem??? Please let me know if I can provide more information..

When working with javascript in multiple windows like this, it is very easy to get lost.
I think what you missed in accessing your applet was a "document" object.
There are a couple of hints for writing javascript:
1 - you can type javascript into the address bar like so:
javascript:alert(window.opener)
You then follow the path to the object you want as long as you can. Build it up slowly, so you see where the chain breaks.
javascript:alert(window.opener.opener)
javascript:alert(window.opener.opener.document)
javascript:alert(window.opener.opener.document.applets)
javascript:alert(window.opener.opener.document.applets.length)
2 - General design: Don't reference stuff on other pages - call functions on the page only.
Rather than calling window.opener.opener.document.applets[0]. (ie referring to the applet from window 3)
do this
window.opener.opener.saveApplet() (from window 3 call the saveApplet function on window1)
and on the first page have

function saveApplet(){
document.applets[0]. ...
</script>
This provides a sort of interface for other pages to use, so they don't have to refer to details on the page.
If you change the layout of the page, or the name of the applet etc etc, you only have this one place to modify it. It can save you a nightmare in javascript errors later on.

Oracle 11gR2 on Windows 7 Questions

I am thinking about installing Oracle 11g R2 Express Edition on my 64bit Windows 7 laptop. I am wanting to use it to access an Oracle 10g database and develop SSRS 2008 reports against that database.
Here are my questions...
Will the 11g R2 connect to the 10g database?
Will SQL Developer work with the 11g R2 client while connected to a 10g database?
What SQL Developer version is the best to get for developing SSRS2008 reports on the 10g database in this scenario?
If I do the 11g R2 install and it doesn't work, does it uninstall cleanly? I don't want to have any issues with my laptop after the uninstall.
I would appreciate any advise offered.

Pl identify which version of Win 7 - you will require Professional or higher - http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17781_01/install.112/e18803/toc.htm#BABGGAJA - Home version is not supported, although some have tried to install it on Home version and have been successful - that does not mean there will be no issues in using the software.
Pl also identify the exact version of "10g" - where is this datbase located ? You should be able to connect to the 10 database from XE.
What is "SSRS" ? I would suggest the latest version of SQL Developer. Why do you need a 11g XE install in the first place ? You should be able to connect to the 10g database directly using SQL Developer.

Widget, and Windows Trackpad question.

Widget, Can I assess widget without having to going in dashboard? Like I can run widget standalone? How to install new widgets?

Does the trackpad, double tap works in windows xp? Or the only way to click is by clicking the buttoN? Does the right click works when you put two finger tap?

You know, there just may have to be some policy changes around here. There are a lot of us who are 1) new to mac, and 2) using windows and windows programs legitimately on an intel mac, specifically, the macbook. We have questions about using these programs on our macs, and I think it's understandable that we want to discuss them.
I really like mac OS, and everything about the macbook. It's the best computer I have ever had. But why do so many people here feel they have to be so hardline about microsoft and any microsoft product? Don't be a microsoft hater! When people ask on this forum about using other 3rd party software -- adobe, WoW, etc.,-- on their macbooks, no one tells them this forum isn't for that!

Novice window/View question (fixed) -- please comment on code

Hey, I am using the iPhone SDK, and this is my first non-licensing question, which means it's going to be a very basic one.
I'm able to start a project, using a ViewController template, edit the XIB file, and then have those controls show up. I'm able to create outlets and inlets and handle user input and output to those controls, all well and good.
Where I'm getting hung up is when I want more than one view. I've read the "how to use the ViewController" documentation, which is more like a "how to" guide for specific subclasses.
All I want to do, for now, is to create two views and swap back and forth between two views. My strategy was to create a parent view (just a container), then create two viewcontrollers (with their views) and then set both their views to the addSubView function of my parent view. Then I was going to use the bringSubviewToFront method to swap between the two, if all goes well then using different animations.
So I did the below in my DidFinishLaunching event handler. All I get is a white screen. Can someone correct my code below, given the intent above? I would learn a TON from the answer, I'd be on my way.

The Utility template makes two content views that transition with the "flip" view animation. The root view is only used to position the Info style button on the main view. I.e. the root view itself is never visible. I didn't mean to imply that template provided the UI skeleton you were looking for, since you didn't describe what you're looking for. But the toggleView method in RootViewController.m is a good example of how to transition between two views without using a tab or nav view controller (since I assumed that was what you were trying to learn).
If you're still in the dark after studying and playing with the Utility template, the place to go is Chaper 6 of +Beginning iPhone Development: Exploring the iPhone SDK+ by Mark and LaMarche. In my opinion it's almost self destructive to try and learn iPhone programming without that book.
If you describe the view structure you want, I can give you some more hints, but you won't learn much by just pasting in a code sample.
