Windows 7 and Acrobat 8 printing problems

I recently installed Windows 7 as my operating system and when I try to print an image I dont get an image from the printer, just some unconnected marks.  Once I was able to find a setting in acrobat that read "not to print pictures as text" but am unable to find it again.  Adobe support blew me off so I need to try this avenue.  Don't think I will go with Adobe again.  Any body know where this setting is?

Acrobat 8 does not work under Windows 7. You need to install either Acrobat 9 with all updates or Acrobat X.

Frame Maker 9 and 10 PDF Print problem
Hi I have an computer with windows 7 and the Adobe Software.
The Distiller 9 with adobe Acrobat 9 and Adobe Design Standard CS3 is also installed.
Now, I open in Frame Maker 9(Full Version) or 10(Trial Version)   an *.fm File. Then I go to “File- save as pdf” and then save I receive an message like this:
“to execute the ‘Save as PDF’  is necessary to have install Acrobat Distiller 5.05 or higher”.  But I have the Distiller 9.
Then I can click OK and now I receive another message like this:  “you must  define “PDF job options” if you want to execute it.”
If I look for the PDF job options I can’t select something. But if I look in the Distiller I have a lot of option I can select.
What is the problem. Is there a solution?
    Can somebody help me?

Using AW 6.2.9 and Mac OS X v10.5.7, the file prints successfully to pdf using the "Save as PDF..." option in the print dialogue. I didn't try to print the result to paper, but that appears to eliminate the file itself as the cause of the problem.
Two first aid steps that might resolve the issue:
    Delete the AW preferences.
In the Finder, click the house icon (yourname) in the sidebar of a Finder window, then Library > Preferences..
Locate and delete the file com.apple.appleworks.plist
       Open the folder AppleWorks
Delete both cache files and the two preferences files.
It's also safe to delete the Button Bars file, but unless you have issues related to the Button Bars, you're also safe to leave it there.
AppleWorks will create new (and clean) versions of these files as it needs them.
    Repair Permissions.
Go Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility
Launch the application, select your startup drive, click First Aid, click Repair Permissions.

  • Does anyone have issues with Windows 7 and Acrobat 8 Pro

I am using Windows 7 and Acrobat 8 Professional. I have 3 installs that work great but 1 that keeps getting a flashing box the size of a popup and then the entire machine freezes up and requires a reboot to work at all. The flashing box is so fast, I cannot read and data on it and as no other programs or software will function at the crash, I am not sure how to troubleshoot. I did a repair, no help. I uninstalled and reinstalled but again, no help......Any tips would be appreciated... Thanks all,

You should be able to move the problem plugin from the plugin folder of Acrobat to a temporary folder and see how it runs. You also did not indicate if it was a 64 bit version of Win7. If the latter, be sure to update Acrobat (should do that anyway). Several folks have been successful with Win7 X32, but I am not sure about X64. Often the updates will fix most of the problems and are even recommended in XP.

  • "Cannot use adobe reader to view pdf in your web browser" error in Windows 7 and Acrobat pro 8.1.7

I get the error "Cannot use adobe reader to view pdf in your web browser.  Reader will now exit.  Please exit your browser and try again" in Windows 7 x32 and Windows 7 x64 with Acrobat pro 8.1.7.  This happens when trying to open  a PDF file in Internet explorer 8.0.760 or when I open a PDF in Quickbooks 2008.  If I answer ok or cancel the file opens normally.  If I open acrobat 8 first then the pdf files open as expected.  I also tried a copy of Acrobat reader with no difference in the outcome.  Since this happens on two different computers one fresh copy of windows 7 x64 the other an upgrade to windows 7 x32 and they used to work before the change to windows 7, I assume there is some kind of incompatibility with windows 7 and acrobat.  Is this a known issue and will it be fixed in an update to acrobat in the near future?

tvandersluijs - I'm sorry if that screwed up your machine however:
    1. What version of Adobe Reader are you using because as you can see the registry entry is for Adobe Reader 9, if ur using Adobe Reader 8 then u need to specify ur version as PAllens entry suggested - "E.g. "C:\Program files\Adobe\Acrobat [version]\Reader\AcroRd32.exe""
    2. I've used this solution significantly because I have come across this specific issue for multiple users.
    3. All the registry entry does is tell Windows what program to use by default to open/view PDF documents.
My intention wasn't to screw up ur machine or anybody elses as I said I've used this solution many times however what I've should gave is the disclaimer to backup ur registry before u make mods so u can revert back in case. Also the ony other thing I can think of is that this solution was for Windows XP using registry editior 5, I'm noticing that the title of this thread is Windows 7.

This what my IT replied with:
That teh MacBook cannot connect with RWW because it requires Active-X to connect.  That MAc browsers (Safari) do not use Active-X but only Windows (IE) uses Active-X control.
It would seem to me that there must be a way around this. Any help?

HP posted a workaround for this problem while they were working with Microsoft to get the root cause of the problem, many customers commented that the workaround helped them out and they were able to print. This workaround was not easy to use as the customer needed to add another printer manually and changed drivers.
We can now announce that the problem has been fixed, the problem involved a Microsoft Network component that HP was using to talk to and track the printers on the network. This fix is being rolled out by Microsoft via Windows Update and anyone who has Windows Update enabled and set to automatically install updates should have already received this update. For those that do not have Windows Update setup to automatically install fixes the fix is available now and should be installed.
The details of this fix and a manual method of installing it can be found here.

This fix is only designed for users that are using there printer on a Network (Wireless or Wired) and will not fix partial printing problems encountered with USB connections.

First, I would suggest you uninstall the exsisting driver and reinstall following one of these documents to see if it will clear this error message:
Install HP print and scan software on a Windows 8 computer (32-bit and 64-bit)
    Universal Print Driver (no scan)
Driver support included in Windows 8 / Windows 8.1 or in Windows Update

  • Acrobat 9 print problem

I recently upgraded my Mac Pro from Tiger and Acrobat 8 Pro to Leopard and Acrobat 9 Pro (I know, I'm a little late to the upgrade party — apologies but it's hard to find free time to keep up with the software maintenance; Acrobat X and Snow Leopard aren't options for me yet). I installed both on a different hard drive, if that makes any difference; it wasn't a direct "upgrade" for either software.
I used to be able to print PDFs from Acrobat to our Dell 3110 color laser printer, but when I started using Acrobat 9 instead of 8, it suddenly started hanging up when I used the Print command.
I originally discovered the problem when running Acrobat 9.2, so I checked for updates and saw that I should be up to 9.4.3. So I have run the update patch, and nothing has changed. Please note that my other printer, a Minolta PagePro, printed the same files just fine; only the Dell was a problem. I installed the Dell printer fresh when I installed this Leopard system, and there haven't been any driver updates recently, so I don't think that's the issue.
I have tried searching the Mac Acrobat forum, and haven't found anything related yet; but I did see people having similar issues on the Windows side. Basically I can choose the printer I want to use, and do a basic setup, but when I click the Print button the dialog box freezes. I can't even click Cancel. And that window overlays ALL other windows that may be open on my machine. I can't move forward until I use the Force Quit command to dump Acrobat.
    OSX version: 10.5.8
    Mac Memory: 10GB 667 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM
    Acrobat version: 9.4.3
    PitStop version: 9
Any insight or workarounds would be welcome!

Yes this is a ridiculous annoyance. I have found two work-a-rounds......firstly by using my iPad. I got the document onto the iPad from my iMac using dropbox. Then used an iPad printer app to print the pdf via my wifi printer.
The other way was to send the document to a friend and get him to print it for me!!!!!!

  • Windows 7 and my laser printer

    Hello
I am using Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit, and I have a problem with one my printers, the printer I have an issue with is a Laserjet 1020 and it will not print from any source on the PC, (Internet, word, Adobe PDF filesetc) the printer is installed and was working fine until some windows uipdates came along and were installed, when I print a test page it work from the HP utilities.  The printer is showing on my list of printer and the driver is installed, when I try to print using word and excel,it says unable to connect, adobe reader says no printer installed, and while on the web it says unknown error occured (I use both explorer and firefox), my second printer is a Deskjet 2050 and that alllows printing from all sources and there has been no issues.
Hope you are able to Help
    Paul (UK)

    Hi Paul,
Thanks for your query. Several of us discussed this issue, and we all agreed that, if it were our printer, our first approach would be to uninstall the existing 1020 LaserJet driver and re-install the latest driver version offered on HP.com. An updated driver for the 1020 became available in late 2010. Perhaps it was in response to this latest Win7 update. Hopefully, the link below will get you to the page I found on HP.com that offers this print driver. If not, go to HP.com, click "Support & Drivers", select "Download drivers and software, enter your printer model, and proceed to the drivers download page for the 1020. Hopefully, this link will get you there: 1020 driver download

  • Acrobat Pro - Printing Problems

I've just started having problems printing from Acrobat Pro 9.0.  I've heard there might be a patch or something to solve this issue, but can't find anything.  I realize that this is an old program, but don't have the funds to upgrade, so have to stick with what I have.  The problem occurs every time I try and print a PDF that was created in Illustrator or InDesign (it says that there are no pages selected or it just funnels through like it's going to print, but nothing happens and it disappears from the print queue.  Occasionally I have a problem printing PDF's that were created from other sources (or downloaded from the web) - most of the time these take at least 15 minutes or so to print each page.
This just started happening.  I don't have problem printing from other programs, just Acrobat Pro.  Any help that anyone can send would be greatly appreciated!!

Thank you for responding to all of my questions and helping with this problem.  I'm sorry, but I'm not sure how to apply these.  I've opened up the link and it wants me to connect to a server…I selected guest.  It doesn't connect to anything.  I'm not exactly sure what I am supposed to be doing with this.

  • Adobe Acrobat Pro Printing Problem

Hello everyone I have Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.5 and when I print a file I have some issue with the design elements.  I have a american flag and has some areas which expand.  Below is a picture of what the file should look like:
No what happens is the file prints like this:
Please not the expanded white area in between the red stripes on the american flag.  This may vary from file to file, but I cannot have this since these will be sent out to a customer for approval.  I have tried Adobe Illustrator, and have no problem with the file.  I have saving a PDF from Adobe Illustrator and then printing in Adobe Acrobat Pro for proper color.  Any suggestions would be great!  I can provide more information also.  Thanks!

Without actually having the digital assets to look at, it is a real cr*pshoot to guess as to what is going on here.
What is the pseudo-American flag in term of object types? Vector, raster, what? Perhaps you can point us to the objects to examine?

  • Win7 and Reader X printing problem

Tried printing a PDF file from a browser window (via Reader X) and it would not print to my primary printer (HP Deskjet 5550 connected to a NAS USB port so it has a network address).  Saving the file and printing from Reader X as a standalone app didn't help.
Other applications printed fine, and I could print from Reader X (standalone or in a browser) to a wireless Epson Workforce 610, except it was out of black ink so that wasn't a viable option.
It took forever to bring up the dialog box, and after selecting print nothing happened.  The print queue never showed anything and no error message was presented.

    Hi
We have the same problem with Read X !
We have 2no network HP designjet 1055cm A0 large format inkjet printers with driver v4.67 on XP windows software pc's
and when we do a print preview, the settings are fixed on A4 and you cannot change them at all.  We are always printing with A1 and A0 PDF's .
We also have a canon irc2880i A4/A3 network laser printer, but that works with no problem.
I have now unstalled reader X and reinstalled back again 9.4 reader and it is all working again with the designjets !
Wake up Adobe on this problem, you have badly let us down on this !

  • Win 7 and Win XP Printing Problem

I currently have a HP LaserJet 1320 printer connected to a desktop computer running Windows 7 (64-bit).  I also have a notebook running Windows 7 (32- bit).
These two computers are set up in a Home Group and the LaserJet prints on both of these computers with no problems.

  • New eMachine w/Windows 7 and HP f1703 monitor problem

Truly fed up at this moment, and not really tech savvy, but will try to be brief with problem:
Had an HP Pavilion a767c which came with f1703 monitor - purchased around 2005 or so ... ran great, no problems, monitor functioned beautifully.  Had some storms come through area about 2 weeks ago, lost power several times, a767c started acting up (shutting itself off at night, but would come back on ... finally died, went through all the diagnostics, yesterday decided to purchase new controller, got an emachine at Best Buy, want to use HP monitor).
About a minute into boot, f1703 changes from a "starting Windows" message to a "PC video resolution setting out of range" moving message ... never comes up to Windows desktop screen.  If I plug in an older CRT type monitor, everything comes up fine.  Have checked Control Panel, shows emachine hooked up to generic monitor ... found resolution settings, they are set for the 1280 x 1024 and made sure was at 60 Hz.  Just went through the diagnostic procedure here on HP for message during boot ... do not get any OSD when Menu button on monitor pressed ... I don't believe we've EVER pushed/accessed this feature in all the years we've had the monitor ... so I'm stuck at this point in going through diagnostics.
    Any help greatly appreciated.

Dave, so sorry, but telling me my monitor is "VGA only" really isn't helping my confusion (original post did state I'm not too tech savvy).  I had my stepson (who is more tech savvy) work with the link you provided previously to download updated driver info from Intel.  Here is a rundown of everything we worked on yesterday with this beast:
As a recap - if I hook up the f1703 directly to the emachine (video port states HDMI on back panel) and boot the machine, get the normal starting boot display and also a "Windows starting" display ... before the desktop screen comes up, the monitor goes into an error message stating resolution not set correctly at 1280 x 1024 @ 60Hz.  From that point, I never get to the desktop, the monitor is basically frozen.  emachine is running Windows 7 64bit.
Pressing F8 during boot will allow me to get into Safe Mode, but in Safe Mode I can't download anything, and I'm very limited in what I can/cannot change.
If I hook up an old CRT style monitor FIRST and boot the emachine, everything comes up normally ... I was able to find the HP f17093 driver in Windows 7 and get that driver set up with the 1280 x 1024 @ 60Hz resolution.  AT THAT POINT, if I unplug the CRT and plug in the f1703, I can use the computer normally and the display is excellent ... so to my way of thinking, there has to be an issue with some video command during boot that is sending a false signal to the monitor.  Make sense???
I hooked the f1703 up to a different emachine (also running Windows 7) and I have the exact same problem ... locks up during boot before desktop screen.  For the heck of it, I'm going to try hooking the monitor up to a Sony Vaio laptop running Vista later tonight to see what, if anything, I get with that.
Downloading the updated driver info from Intel really didn't accomplish anything positive ... although the Intel site stated there was updated drivers available, after downloading the emachine had picked up some kind of generic flatscreen driver to use and same issue existed, so that's not what's doing it.
Oh, one other thing:  after getting the complete boot on the CRT, then switching plugs to hook up the f1703 I was able to access the monitor's OSD menus ... went through and reset to factory settings ... no difference ... monitor still hangs during boot when hooked up first directly.
Dave, when you said VGA only, are you trying to tell me the output on the video card is not correct for the f1703 monitor?  Sorry, I just don't understand the HDMI stuff (what that is in layman's/idiot's terms).  Do I have to have a different video card?  Adapter?
Thank you both (CherylG and Dave) for your patience and assistance ... this is just so frustrating.  I used to understand alot more back in the DOS/CPM days.

  • Windows 7 and Acrobat 9 Pro (CS4)

Oh please, oh please won't someone help me.  Someone else HAS to have run into this.
I install CS4 and enter serial number on a Windows 7 RTM machine (64-bit).  It tells me I'm activated.  And I can use all the products just fine - except Acrobat.  As most of you know - CS4 without Acrobat is a little like buying a car without a steering wheel.  At some point, you're going to need it.
When I run acrobat, I get this: "Adobe Acrobat was installed as part of a suite. To enable Adobe Acrobat, please start another component of this suite (such as Adobe Photoshop)."
    So, here's what I've done:
    1) Deactivate, uninstall, reinstall, activate.  No go.
    2) Deactivate, uninstall.  Install just Photoshop CS4 and Acrobat.  Run Acrobat and I get the message, so I run Photoshop and it activates and then I run Acrobat again.  Same message.
    3) Referred to article at http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/407/kb407134.html - but the file versions I have on Win 7 are higher than the ones specified in the article.
    4) Called phone support.  No help there - "Uninstall and re-install and you should be good."
No matter how many times I uninstall/reinstall or what order I do it in, I get this error on all of our Win 7 machines (3 of them).  And the best part?  Each install takes about 45 minutes or longer.
Please don't tell me that Windows 7 isn't supported yet.  Release date to full market is scheduled for October 22nd so if someone doesn't fix this issue they're going to have a LOT of support calls on their hands.
I understand Adobe does this to limit piracy of their software.  But at this point, they've basically rendered $1,000's of spending for our organization completely useless as we need to be able to produce PDFs of our work from CS4.
    Help?
    Thanks,
    Mark Gerlach
