Windows 7 installation disk doesn't exist?

Hey guys! I am using bootcamp for the first time on my 2011 macbook pro. I go to the bootcamp assistant, then from there I click continue and check off [Install Windows 7] and [Download the latest Windows support software from apple]. After this, I put a CD in to burn the latest windows software. From there, I then created a partition for windows which I put 100GB for out of my 500GB. I then clicked install but it said that my windows 7 installation disk didn't exist. I looked around for a while but then realized that my laptop never came with a windows 7 installation disk. Am I doing something wrong or do I have to go and buy one? Thanks for any help!

Ah that's what I thought. So, I would buy a windows 7 installation disk, put it in, then click install like I did?

  • During Windows XP installation, 'Disk Error' shows.

In many other forums and other user experiences as well as the Bootcamp guide written by apple themselves, at one stage of installing Windows XP, normally after selecting the partition in which to install windows, it asks whether to format and into which format. However this does not happen on my Mac. After selecting the partition that was separated using Bootcamp, it does not ask to format but goes on to verify and then copy data into the partition.
A friend also said formatting is essential and the formatting option was included in the step-by-step procedures described by Apple, but this option was not present or shown in my installation. After the data was copied, it restarted the computer after completing the data copying and informing the user that the computer would be restarted. It then rebooted the same way as it did when I clicked 'Start Installation' on Bootcamp which restarted the computer and came to the start screen that displayed 'Press Space to boot from DVD' just as it did before. Pressing space opens another list where the first option is to press space to install Windows XP, other options show to boot something else and last option to reboot. If nothing is pressed, it jumps to another screen displaying the words 'Disk Error. Press Any key to restart' which happened every single time I tried to install windows and the only thing that I had realised was missing was the formatting of the partition that the Windows XP installation disk should have prompted which did not.
I had also tried accessing 'Disk Utilities' in the Mac OS X and erasing everything in the Bootcamp partition and putting it in FAT format whilst the partition for windows remained under 32 GB. However all attempts resulted in the same 'Disk Error' and never completed the XP setup.
Can someone please diagnose what problem this could be and suggest any possible solutions in order for me to successfully install my Windows XP Service Pack 2 on to my FAT32 format partition of 30GB. I believe it is related to the formatting issue.
    Thank you very much.

Hi Chris and welcome to Discussions,
what exactly is the error message you get when you try the "Format C: /FS:FAT32" command ?
Sadly it is indeed so that a whole batch of Windows XP CDs are 'missing' the reformat option. Don't know why that is so.
frederic1943 has described the correct procedure in this thread http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2071417&tstart=105
Have you waited long enough for the drivers to be loaded ?
To Antonio: Reformating the BootCamp Windows partition through the WIndows installer is indeed a neccessity.
When using NTFS as file system for WIndows (neccessary for Vista and Windows 7) it is a must since OSX cannot write to NTFS by default.
With FAT32 also, since the BootCamp Assistant only does some sort of 'preformating'.

  • Creating a Windows 7 installation disk for S12-ION (and similar)...

In a recent (now dissapeard) thread the subject of creating a backup Windows 7 Installation disk that will work with the Win7 Home Premuim OA key on the sticker on the bottom of S12-IONs.
Unfortunately that thread got stomped on because it strayed off path.
So, I've started this thread to discuss the afore mentioned subject and request that we do not discuss anything outside that that we are legally allowed to do (and I suggest it might be sensible to avoid making any kind of comment that could be deemed to be outside the acceptable usage policy for these forums).
OK, so, does anyone have any further information on this process?
I know we need to start with a (legally obtained) Win7 install disk.
This can then be altered to operate as any given (or optionally all) version of Windows 7 install disk.
However, does the disk that one alters need to be a specific version?
My guess would be that a Windows 7 Ultimate disk is most likely to work, but I suspect all Windows 7 install disks are essentially identical, bar a configuration that one needs to modify.
Now, one could also, at this point, 'slip-stream' the disk to contain specific drivers, or required other software, for the target hardware (in my case, an S12-ION).
    Would this be necessary?
What S12-ION drivers/software need to/can be slipstreamed in this way?
I'm sure there are other questions too...
Anyway, I plan to do some research, and will post what I find, but if anyone else knows anything about either of these processes, please feel free to contribute...
    Scott

'Sweet', as I believe 'the kids' say these days.
Though, I'm still going to look into slipstreaming stuff into a disk - essentially I want what I wish Lenovo provided - one disk with all the base-level drivers and Lenovo management software pre-installed - so I can manage my HDD my way.
@omgmog: it's exactly those *ways* (or, rather, those that are legal) that this thread is here to discuss...
Now, an update on my research: I need to stand corrected on one point - Microsoft haven't made it all that easy...
But, unless Lenovo come up with, I dunno, maybe an iso I can just download and burn to disk, I'm going to keep going and see if I can figure out what the best, most hassle free, way of achieving our legal right is.

  • I need to use an hp 6215 printer with my mac book pro.  the driver installation disk doesn't work.  where can i get a driver that will work?  i use OS X

i need to use an hp 6215 printer with my mac book pro.  the driver installation disk doesn't work.  where can i get a driver that will work?

With the Lion it is essentially unnecessary to resort to external driver disks. What's more, most of those disks are incompatible with the OS and should not be used. The system already carries a wide variety of printer description files (aka PPDs, which is what modern printing systems use as "drivers") for a lot of brands. And there was an HP printer update just two days ago.
Just checked in mine and did indeed find that the HP OfficeJet 6200 Series, with or without Fax, is covered with the latest update.
So just go thru the motions of creating a proper printer instance:
Make sure the Mac "sees" the printer on the network.
System Preferences / Print & Scan
Click on the + button on the left column
Select the appropriate type of printer, will use IP for the rest of this
Select HP Jetdirect - Socket, default for HP network printers
Type the IP address or look it up
Name the printer for easy identification on the print dialog
Let the Mac identify the printer model or manually choose the driver
    Click Add.
Once the instance pops up in the list, can click on Options & Supplies for further config.

    Hi,
For normal computer, we only have Windows 85, 98, XP, Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8 and now Windows 8.1. Probably you need a recovery discs set for your machine. Please call HP technical support: 800-474-6836. If you live outside the US/Canada Region please click the link below to get the support number for your region.

  • C:\programdata\apple computer\installer cache doesn't exist

I can't uninstall or upgrade QuickTime.  The installer alerts with "Error getting file security: C:\ProgramData\Apple Computer\  GetLastError: 5".
The C:\ProgramData\ directory doesn't exist on my system (Win 7 Prof 64 bit on Dell laptop).
How can I get this program uninstalled and/or upgraded?
    Thanks

It will most likely be there. (It's hidden by default on a Windows Vista or 7 system.)
The 5 suggests either permissions trouble or file damage. Perhaps let's first try checking on disk damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?

  • Disk Drive will not load up my Windows 7 Installation Disk. Spits it out within 5 tries.

    Hello,
Today, I bought myself a Windows 7 64-bit Installation disk so I can put Windows 7 via Bootcamp. However, everytime I insert the disk, my iMac will make strange noises. For example; first it will try to load the disk but then shuts down. It will start up again but then fails again. This will happen for about 5 tries and then it will eject the disk out.
I have tested different types of CDs after this problem occurred and I have mixed results. I have tried my old Vista 32bit installation disk which had worked before perfectly but now it will not load. I tried my mother's Windows 7 disk and that doesn't work. I have tried a DVD movie (The Simpsons Movie first thing I saw) and that loaded fine. I tried my OSX Install disk and that loaded up fine.
Could this problem be fixed by myself easily or do I need to visit an Apple store/repair store and ask them about the issue? My warranty ran out around 2 years ago.
    Here are my specs:
    iMac Model: Mid 2010
    Processor: Intel i3
    Processor Speed: 3.06Ghz
    Ram: 8GB

  • X-Fi Titanium and Windows 7 installation disk

    Hi,
I've bought a X-Fi Titanium card which came with a driver?CD, I would like to know if the driver CD which came it's safe to install on Windows 7, or to download the drivers and Control Panel from the web an to install them instead.
The CD contains also applications besides drivers, but I think they are more Vista compatible since on the CD is copyrighted 2008.
So it's ok to install the CD and then to apply the updates from the web, or to install only the web drivers and control panel ?

Re: X-Fi Titanium and Windows 7 installation diskT This is the best thing to install to take care of all your needs:
    <a rel="nofollow" href="http://forums.creative.com/t5/Sound-Blaster/SB-X-Fi-Series-Support-Pack-2-0-05-5-2009/td-p/527485"]http://forums.creative.com/t5/Sound-Blaster/SB-X-Fi-Series-Support-Pack-2-0-05-5-2009/td-p/527485[/url]
Then you can update to the newest Creative driver and applications afterward. The software CD works in Windows 7, but I felt that my system was sluggish and unresponsi've afterward. So, I recommend you try Daniel K.'s pack, and then you can upgrade your driver and any other applications that Creative has updated since. There are a few things in the installation scripts for the applications and drivers on the CD that just dont work, in my opinion. That is why Daniel made his package, because he wanted to integrate things a bit more smoothly. I have run an X-Fi Fatality PCI and now my Titanium Fatality PRo PCI-express card with the support pack and it works great under XP, Vista, and Windows 7 in either 32 or 64 bit flavors.

  • ArchLinux Installation disk doesn't recognize Macbook Air SSD[SOLVED]

I want to install ArchLinux on my new MacBook Air (dual boot), I made a dd of the installation iso to a usb disk. The usb disk can boot and run, but it cannot recognize the hard drive(SSD) of Macbook air.
There are three disk files in dev: /dev/sda /dev/sda1 and /dev/sdb
/dev/sda is the usb disk, /dev/sdb cannot be opened by parted and cannnot be mounted (it reports "no medium found") and I believe it is the sd card reader.
    What can I do?

Try booting the fallback kernel, there is a problem with the AHCI driver concerning new Macbooks. When you've booted, add ata_generic to the modules in /etc/mkinitcpio.conf and rebuild the initrd with mkinitcpio -p kernel26.

  • Cannot open eventlog service on computer '.'. (Windows Event Log service doesn't exist)

This problem used to be solved after moving a computer object into the appropriate OU and restarting, and if that didn't work, it used to be solved when uninstalling and reinstalling Microsoft FEP (restarts in-between).  Now, the only way to access
event logs is by logging in as a domain admin, or by accessing event logs through remote manage.
If a machine object is added to the domain, dropped into the computers container, and restarted, we get this error when going into Computer Management:
"Cannot open eventlog service on computer '.'."
The original problem was noticed on our VMs, but I also tried it with a Lenovo Windows 7 build out of the box, added it to our domain, and the problem occurred. When our desktops are built, SCCM's task manager drops it into the appropriate OU immediately,
so desktops don't have issues.  With VMs, they are dropped into the computers container and restarted, so once this problem occurs, it almost never leaves.  SOMETIMES, removing it from the domain solves the problem, but not always.
I've tried all of the suggestions I've seen online and none of them have worked, such as cleaning up the policies (through registry, and the appropriate system folders), adding the proper NTFS permissions on the RtBackup folder and %SystemRoot%\System32\winevt\logs, netsh
    winsock reset, cleanboot, etc.
I did notice that I'm unable to find the NT Service\EventLog user group. I wanted to add it to %systemroot%\system32\winevt\logs, but the group cannot be found on the local computer. Even if that's the problem, why is it missing?
It doesn't seem like anyone else on the internet gets this exact error.

    Hi Kate!
Yes, the Windows Event Log service is missing. I had already tried your method (#3), and I did try it again. This is the error I get:
    "The specified service already exists."
If you check services.msc, it's still not there. If you try to start the Event Viewer, the same error comes up:
Cannot open eventlog service on computer '.'.
    Hi,
Please check for the existence of this key. If not found, create a *.reg file from another machine and import.
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Eventlog
    Then, check the issue again.
If this doesn't work, let's run System file checker tool to repair system:
Run SFC command in elevated command prompt
    SFC /scannow
Any error message, please post here to let me know.
    Keep post.

  • 2008 MacBook Boot Camp Assistant doesn't recognize Windows XP install disk

I'm trying to install Boot Camp, so I put in my Windows XP installation disk, which the computer recognizes because it shows up on the desktop, but when I run the Boot Camp Assistant, it says "The installer disk could not be found. Insert your Windows installer disc and wait a few seconds for the disc to be recognized."
    Any help?

That the disk is recognized in Leopard does not mean it's the right disk.
The Windows disk must be XP w/SP2 embedded, or Vista.
It must also be a full install disk, not an update or restore disk, and not a ISO-image disk.

  • CS3 Installer asks for non-existent DVD drive

I'm running CS3 on Windows XP. I need to reinstall because I somehow lost codecs for Premiere Pro. Whenever I try to reinstall, the CS3 installer puts up an Installer Alert that asks me to insert CS3 Master Collection Disc 1 into drive G:\ to continue installation.
That sounds pretty simple, but there is no G: drive on my computer. My two DVD drives are D: and E:, and inserting the disc there has no effect. Checking the Windows device manager shows no G: device recognized anywhere on the computer.
I can only click OK, which returns the same alert, or Cancel to cancel the installation. I cannot, for the life of me, figure out how to get the CS3 installer to ask for installation disks on an existing drive. What's particularly annoying is that the installer is running from a DVD in drive E:, so you'd think it would know to ask for further discs in drive E:. I've tried it as well from drive D:.
Any ideas for getting the installer to stop asking for discs in a non-existent drive?
I've toyed with the idea of completely uninstalling CS3, but am afraid that the installer still won't work, in which case I won't be able to get any work done using CS3 at all.
Thanks for any and all help,
    Mike Boom

The 404 means you have not followed the Very Important Instructions on the prodesigntools page before clicking the download links.
The 7 steps are crucial for setting the correct cookies on your hard drive so that the Adobe servers will grant you access to the download files when you click the links.
    So:
    Go back to http://prodesigntools.com/download-adobe-cs4-and-cs3-free-trials-here.html
Follow the Very Important Instructions (Step 0 to Step 6 = 7 Steps)
Then click the download links and they will work.

  • Bootcamp: installer disk could not be found - but MAC desktop can see it

    Hi,
I have an iMac intel - 17" 1.83 GHz that I put together from a box of junk. Mechanic friend took it all apart, don't ask. Installed a new hard drive of 1 terrabyte. The internal optical drive does not work so we got a new Iomega optical drive that works just great.
We want to run Windows XP Pro on this iMac - and after updating all of the software in Mac (OS 10.5.8), and running Bootcamp set up assistant, partitioned the drive to 500 GB MAC; 500 GB PC, got this error message saying that the Windows XP installer disk could not be found.
The disk appears on the desktop. I can click on it and see all of the pc files in it. I clicked on a couple of the files and got a simple text document of gibberish. But the set up assistant in Bootcamp still doesn't recognize the disk. So I have been unable to install Windows.
The disk itself is a burned copy from my university that gave me a full license for Windows XP Pro, SP 3. It's 32 bit. And it shows up as an install disk when I pop it into a PC.
I've run Disk Warrior and Disk Utilities to repair permissions and to check that the new hard drive is ok...and it's all set.
I wonder if this is because of the external dvd drive that I'm using. I can use my Macbook Pro and get the imac into target mode. But don't know if this will have me continue to bark up this tree.
Has anyone had success with the same kind of problem that I'm not facing? Thanks much in advance.
    Sheila

I too got a version of Windows 7 64 Professional from the the Microsoft Software Distribution Network through Uni. I burnt the iso file on a PC to a DVD with power ISO and then tried to use it as the install disk. After some umming and arrhhing Mac OS X recognised it, the installer started, allowed to select language etc, then suddenly a box appears announcing that a required cd/dvd drive device driver is missing.
I have rang up apple support and they are pretty much saying it is a disc quality issue, but I have checked all the disc drive regimes and permissions and they all seem to be fine. I have also done it with multiple brands and a number of times, everytime the same message returned. All the latest firmware has been downloaded. One thing that was briefly mentioned by the guy at Apple support was that there was the possibility that it may be the "logic board". So the previous poster may be right. They said this was unlikely, but everything is possible. The drive works for everything in the OS X side though, so has pretty much stumped me and the Apple support people. I think the only option is to take it to an Apple shop and let them see it for themselves, not really an option for me as I need the Mac Book to write my dissertation, due in about three weeks so can't afford to lose it.
Sorry if I have slightly "jacked" the thread, but the issue sounded pretty close to mine. Any resolution or insight into what might be the issue would be amazing.
    Regards,
    Duncan

  • Satellite L650-12Q - Windows 7 recovery procedure doesn't work

    Hello,
I have Windows 7 Home Premium edition (64 Bit) in my Toshiba Satellite laptop (L650-12Q) and after a fresh start the Windows stopped working. I have a recovery disk which didn't load (I ended up with the pointer in a blank screen) and the windows 7 installation disk wouldn't work either (same thing). Safe mode doesn't work either.
This probably means that the partition has a problem am I right? - I have used Ubuntu Live CD which confirmed that c:\ cannot be mounted although d:\ can.
The problem however, is two fold: a) I'm not sure whether aspects of my data are accessible or not (I can't check this) and b) I can't re-install Windows, as the Windows 7 installation process doesn't work.
Any ideas please on what to do next? I would like to access the partition, have searched the internet (even tried with a Windows 98/XP boot disc) but didn't have any luck as the partition is written in a newer way, which isn't detected by them...
    Thank you in advance.

    > I have a recovery disk which didn't load (I ended up with the pointer in a blank screen)...
Do you use it for the first time?
Anyway, try to start recovery disc following these steps:
-Start notebook model and when you see Toshiba welcome screen press F12 several times to enter Boot options
-when the boot menu is shown put recovery disc into optical disc drive
-in menu choose CD/DVD drive and press ENTER
ODD should start reading recovery disc.
What happen when you do this?
