Windows 7 OSD failing at Starting Services with unexpected reboot

Hello. My environment is SCCM 2012 R2. I have a Windows 7 task sequence that deploys a custom Windows 7 WIM file. The task sequence has been used for a number
of years and the Windows 7 WIM file was updated with the latest security update but has been deployed out to many machines without issue since. I have a difficult problem that I am trying to figure out. Recently the build process started failing on a specific
model of machine (Dell Optiplex 7020). See the attachment for the error message. The problem is it is only happening at one location. Other locations have not reported the problem. Also, some 7020s built at the problem location do successfully complete but
when someone tries to use a USB device on the machine, it becomes unresponsive for up to 20 minutes.
My assumption was that the driver package on the distribution point is corrupt. However, I have removed it and successfully added it back. I also noticed that
is a memory dump file. I examined it and it points to the USB drivers. The problem is that I have compared the Windows 7 setup logs with a working 7020 from another location. There are no differences other than the location the drivers are pulled from. There
are no errors in the setup logs or SCCM logs. The only items I can found to point to the cause of the failure is the dump file.
Any recommendations on what I should look at next?

The attachment didnt come across, can you post the smsts.log or upload it to OneDrive, etc?

    David,
Thanks for your detailed response. I will try all that you suggested and let you know my observation at the end. To give a back ground of the application I am working on.
    Background
Try to replace home grown cache (very well optimized uses custom serialization using NIO bytebuffer etc.,) my mandate is to replace the legacy cache with coherence (I love coherence product (at least 3.4) from my previous job experience). Since all kind of optimization is done in legacy application I am converting NIO byteBuffer generated by legacy serialization to byteArray and converting ByteArray into POF. Also for various other reasons, I have to send entry processor to do even get and put data from the cluster.
    Raw Data Set Size
My data size is just 500MB (In Production). I put enough cache nodes so that raw data is just 50MB per node. (Since it is compute heavy with entry processor and the number of clients are going to be ~2500)
What was happening when I got the exception?
I was doing stress testing of the cache. Not sure if that put lot of garbage in some of the node hence may be the garbage collection pause triggered the re-distribution of partition set. Since the stress testing was on the way it might had cascading effect on all the nodes.
    Datagram Test result.
    Tx summary 4 peers:
    life: 96 MB/sec, 68774 packets/sec
    now: 100 MB/sec, 71378 packets/sec, packets/burst: 1029, bursts/second: 69.41594
Success rate ranges from 0.87 to 1.0
Is a success rate less than 0.98 a cause for concern?
Regarding Size (to keep the extend client always connected to the proxy)
I do size request every 5 sec. if there is not other request has gone to the cluster in the past 5 sec.
In one of the oracle presentation it was said that "If you have map listener's and no other request from a long period of time extend client has to do a periodic size request to make sure that connection to proxy is alive"
In this regard my question is "Can the same effect achieved by doing member listener on the extend client and on disconnection do the size request?"
    Proxy Size guide lines
In production number of extend clients are going to be ~2500 connected all the time.
Of which 2000 clients with few map listener + entry processor gets (Each of the clients will have distinct and disjoint set of data on which they work and listener)
And the remaining ~500 clients will do all kinds of request on the entire data set.
In this circumstance is there any recommendation for Number of extend-client : Number of extend-server : Number of threads ratio?

    /Anand

    Hi,
Has any one had a similar issue when trying to set up the Web Site Cloud REST point?
I am trying to install the 'Web Sites service and third party dependencies' but I get the following error when trying to set up this feature:

I uninstalled the Web Farm Framework and reinstalled it from the Web Platform Installer. That worked. The next error was:

  • Failed to register service with Bonjour

I can't seem to register my Mac Mini's services with Bonjour.  Below is what I think is relevant log to the issue.  An Airport Extreme (Time Capsule, actually) is the host.  It's running version 7.6.1.  My Mac Mini is running 10.6.8.
I checked with "Bonjour Browser" and the services are listed.  I can get access all these services locally and over the internet.  The only problem is that when the Mac goes to sleep, it can not be awaken, locally or over the internet.
    Any ideas?

Thank Linc.  WakeOnLan is quite niffty but I'm not physically there and the only computer (Mac Mini) I have access to is the one that can't be awaken (other than scheduled wake by itself).
But I did run WakeOnLan on the Mac Mini and was able to see itself, amognst others, listed as "awake".
I'll try to get my family member there on the local network to try WakeOnLan and see if it's listed when it's asleep.
Meanwhile I'll briefly describe my setup and status:
    The Setup:
MacBook Air => Internet =>  Cable Modem => Time Capsule => Mac Mini
Mac Mini is Ethernet connected to Time Capsule.
Time Capsule hosts the entire local network.
Mac Mini is headless (no keyboard or monitor connected)
Mac Mini is setup for Remote Management, Remote Login, and Web Sharing.
Port Mapping on Time Capsule is setup accordingly for the above services.
"Wake for network administration" is selected in Energy Saver.
Successful Connections  (only when already awake):
SSH over LAN and over Internet
VNC over LAN and over Internet
    File Sharing over Internet
    Web Sharing over Internet
Mac Mini shows up as  available for connection in Finder of another locally connected Mac.
Note: while accessing over LAN, I've only tried using a client (MacBook Air) via WiFi.

  • Power Mac G5 fails to start up with Airport Extreme card in.

    Hello.
I just received a 'new' Airport Extreme card for my Power Mac G5 1.8 (900fsb). I just installed it and it failed to start up with it in. The mac started up but without my Apple LCD and any USB devices. I did a PMU reset on the logic board and took out the Crucial 3rd party 512mb RAM and tried again but it won't start up. When I take the card out it's business as usual.
Is it the card or the mac that's at fault? Has anyone had this problem too?
Your help will be greatly appreciated.

    This problem can happen if:
    - the card has not been fully seated into its socket (doing that can take a firm push) or if you installed the card upside down
    - the card is defective
    - the card socket in the PowerMac G5 has broken or bent contact pins
Check the installation you did with:
    http://www.info.apple.com/usen/cip/pdf/g5/apec_c.pdf
If you are sure the card has been properly installed, you are gong to have to either (a) try a different Airport Extreme card or (b) let an Apple dealer or service center take a look at your PowerMac G5.

  • Java.lang.RuntimeException: Failed to start Service "ReplicatedCache"

I'm seeing an exception from coherence when I attempt to shutdown our application. The error indicates that Coherence is attempting to start the "ReplicatedCache" service, but the JVM is shutting down.
Is this perhaps a timing issue where our application leaves the grid and Coherence attempts to restart the "ReplicatedCache" service even though we're actually shutting down? Do we need to explicitly shutdown Coherence services before our application exits?
The exception creates the following log message:

    Tom,
The "Rejecting connection to member" message comes from the TcpRingListener and indicates that some process (not Coherence software) attempts to open a TCP socket on port 8088, which is used by Coherence for the TcpRing communications (life cycle support).
I would suggest changing the base port number used by the Coherence cluster nodes by either creating/modifying your tangosol-coherence-override.xml or supplying a command line override: -Dtangosol.coherence.localport=NNNN, where NNNN is a number in a range that is not used by any other applications.

1)Do u  have a third party security software installed?
This could be due to that... What are the different virus scans you are already having.. there may be third party firewall or security product
which is interfering the windows firewall.. disable one by one your security scanners and try to up the windows firewall
(2)if you dont have such firewall product installed,  this could be due to malware or some other problem...
if you have an antivirus solution, update it's definitions, and do a full system scan..
If you dont have a antivirus solution or your one is not working, use one of the recommended tools (use only one of
    them at a time)

  • Unable to start services with different

    Hi,
We have installed OBIEE 11g on a 64-bit Windows machine. When we start the services with the same user id which was logged in while installation the services go up successfully and everything seems fine. However, when we try to start the services with any other user id, the weblogic server fails to start.
Please let me know if anyone has any idea why this could be happening. Any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Naman

    Hi,
I added the user to BIAdministrators but still it is unable to start the services. Also, the ID with which I installed OBIEE is also not added to the BIAdministrators group but is still able to start the services.
    Thanks
    Naman

  • Continually start service with powershell?

I have one of our in house WIndows services that fails to start for some unknown reason.   I need to attach a remote debugger to it to step through and see what is wrong.  Unfortunately, the service fails during startup almost instantly so not
enough time to connect remote debugger.  Using PS4, is there a good way to continually try to start a Windows service until it successfully starts?  This might give me enough time to attach a remote debugger.
    thanks
    scott

If the service won't stay running long enough to attach a debugger then you are out of luck.
Many services do not stay running. They start and stop almost immediately. That is how they are designed.
For help with debugging post in the developers forum.
    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  • Admin Server 4 fails to start up with new Internet Protocol (IP) address

By default, the Netscape Admin Server 4.x uses the Internet Protocol (IP)
address that was entered in its configuration at the time the server was
installed. However, if a system administrator decides to change the IP address,
the server will fail to start.<BR>
    <P>
The following is an example of the error message:<BR>
    <P>
    # ./start-admin
Info: Cache expiration set to 600 seconds
    Netscape-Administrator/4.0 B99.035.2034
startup failure: could not bind to port 4050, IP address 208.12.45.56 (Invalid
    Argument)
    The error log will show:<BR>
    [29/Oct/1999:11:32:58] info: successful server startup
    [29/Oct/1999:11:32:58] info: Netscape-Administrator/4.0 B99.035.2034
[29/Oct/1999:11:32:58] failure: startup failure: could not bind to port 4050,
IP address 208.12.45.56 (Cannot assign requested address)
    <P>
In addition, if the system administrator manually clears the IP address for the Admin
Server in Console (by clicking the Configuration tab, clicking the Network tab,
selecting Process Settings, and then selecting IP Address), the server will
also fail to start. The following are examples of the error message and error
    log entries.
    <BR>
    # ./start-admin
Info: Cache expiration set to 600 seconds
    Netscape-Administrator/4.0 B99.165.2023
startup failure: could not bind to port 4100, IP address
    (Directory open error)
    The error log will show:<BR>
    [03/Dec/1999:09:32:43] info: successful server startup
    [03/Dec/1999:09:32:43] info: Netscape-Administrator/4.0 B99.165.2023
[03/Dec/1999:09:32:43] failure: startup failure: could not bind to port 4100,

These problems affect both Admin Server 4.0 and 4.1.

    Hi Laurent,
although I was given the advice earlier that I should simply take the machine back to the shop, or call the help centre, I ended up just praying that it would be OK.  A couple of days after I posted the message I think there was an update to download and install, just a regular one from Apple from the Software Update option for the operating system or it may have been one for Final Cut Pro X, and once it installed I never had the problem again, so my prayers were answered.
It was pretty scary at the time because I thought it must be some hardware malfunction, but because it was resolved through an update it suggested it was a software issue.  Hopefully it is the same with you.
I'm now running 10.7.2 and have had no recurrence of the problem in many months, thankfully.
It might have nothing to do with it, but the only other two things that may have somehow caused errors in the system startup (and I doubt these will be "unrelated" to people who know how computers work better than I do, but I feel I should mention them just in case), but I also updated Final Cut Pro X from a glitchy version to version 10.0.2 around the same time, and I also had an application installed which didn't function correctly in OS10.7 called PowerController (a simple app that can start up the computer at a set time and play music from iTunes as an alarm clock) and it was in the group of apps that were set to start at the starting up of the computer.
Anyway, I hope your problem is resolved as easily.  Pray about it too!

  • Windows 2012 routing and remote access service with same subnet

I have internal server IP range -192.168.1.0/24
Windows routing and remote access service  with vpn client IP -192.168.11../22
client side IP subnet is -192.168.1.0/24
So we wan routing \ NATING between  192.168.1.0/24 to 192.168.11.0/22 so if vpn user try to ping 192.168.11.5 it should internally forward all request to 192.168.1.5

    Hi,
According to your description, my understanding is that VPN client and internal network has the same IP range -192.168.1.0/24. And you want to transfer internal network from IP address 192.168.1.0/24 to 192.168.11.0/22.
Agree with Charles David’s point of view. The easiest way to fix routing confusion would be to either change the VPN subnet or the VPN client subnet.
Or, if you configure Windows Server(RRAS) as VPN server, you may enable NAT to transfer internal IP address:
    1. Open RRAS, add NAT.
    2. New interface to NAT and configure it as public interface.
    3. Open Address Pool tab, add IP address range 192.168.11.0/22.
    4. Click Reservations, add reserved IP(192.168.11.0/22) and corresponding internal IP(192.168.1.0/24) one by one.
This would be a lot of workload. Besides, you may use 3rd party devices to transfer subnet IP addresses.
    Best Regards,
    Eve Wang

  • [Solved] kdm.service fails to start X with systemd 185-4

    Hello
After updating systemd yesterday to 185-4 and booting my pc in the morning I found out that either the boot stops in the middle giving me just black screen or it would throw me to console prompt after some time.
systemctl status kdm.service shows two errors
Jul 1 11:20:57 pc kdm[285]: X server startup timeout, terminating
Jul 1 11:21:08 pc kdm[285]: X server for display :0 cannot be started, session disabled
The same can be observed in logs. However, there are no errors in Xorg.0.log.
    Moreover when I do
    systemctl stop kdm.service
    systemctl start kdm.service
kdm loads fine and I can login to kde.
I have temporarily reverted to 185-3 and the problem seems to be gone.
Does anybody experience a similar issue?
    thanks
