Windows 7 reinstall disks

I just bought an hp laptop with windows 7 laptop and it didn't come with reinstall disks or recovery disks, I have never seen them come without before , is there a way i can get them from hp

Jindog71,
You are correct in saying "the Recovery Discs are not the Windows 7 instal disk", but you are wrong about "the Recovery Discs can only recover an already installed OS" and "You can't use them to do a fresh install for say a replacement on a failed Hard Drive like I want to do now."
You should have created your personal set of HP Recovery Discs when you first setup your computer. This would have allowed you the return the computer to a factory like state, even with a replacement hard drive. The Recovery Discs you create or purchase from HP contain an image of the original factory installation. These discs will partition and format the drive as well as install the OS image and recovery partition. Some versions of the recovery software allow a "minimized recovery" which only installs the OS and drivers.
Microsoft will not help you at all. The HP discs you buy will have the OS on them, but they aren't regular installation discs. The HP discs will restore the Windows image to the hard drive, are locked to your model computer, and use a different Windows key than the one on the side/bottom of your computer. Most major computer builders (Dell, Sony, Gateway, HP, etc.) use a special OEM key and certificate to "pre-activate" when coupled with the proper builder's BIOS. This is different than a regular install that requires Windows to be activated via internet or phone.

  • Is it true that your computers dont come with windows reinstalation disks

I am a fan of open source *nix systems
and was reading that most hp and other systems dont come with windows reinstalation disks
    is this true?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

As long as you have the recovery discs, there will not be a problem putting the original operating system back on the unit.

  • Windows-No Disk Error Mess

I get the following error message upon start-up or reboot for Audigy SE:?Windows-No Disk?c0000003 Parameters 75b6bf9c 4 75b6bf9c 75b6bf9c.... I have the option to Continue-Cancel-Retry??The sound card seems to work otherwise, but this error is annoying and I would like to resolve it. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the install CD as this is a new install, but the error persists. Can someone suggest a Fix-It?Thanx!?Lawrence

I have found the Windows No Disk error message to be caused by having a card reader installed in your system in some cases. If you change the dri've letters of the readers from i.e. F: and G: to for example O: and P: (as I did on my machine) the error message will stop. Worth a try.......worked for me. Hope you find this reply useful, unlike the previous wise a$$ replies.

  • "Windows - No Disk" error during sync

About 1/2 the time when I go to sync my 80gig iPod Classic, I get this error. "Windows - No Disk There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive I:. [Cancel] [Try Again] [Continue]"
I: is the letter assigned to the ipod. It seems to happen just as the sync process is completing. It looks as though the ipod is disconnecting itself just before itunes wants it to.
I've been having this problem ever since I got the ipod in March or April. I've reinstalled Windows a couple times since then and it still persists. I've even done a factory reset on the ipod. I'm stumped. Any suggestions?

The only other 2 things I can think of are
    1) Deleting your itunes preferences files from these 2 folders after closing itunes
    (they'll get rebuilt)
    C:\Documents and Settings\user name\Applications Data\Apple Computers\iTunes
    C:\Documents and Settings\user name\Local Settings\Applications Data\Apple Computers\iTunes.
    2) Plugging something into every USB/drive letter port you've got.

  • Itunes 7 upgrade Windows-No Disk

I recently upgraded to iTunes 7 and when I start it, I get an error Windows-No Disk. I uninstall, then start iTunes and it works, but when I re-start, I get the Windows-No Disk. I then uninstall and then reinstall, which works for the initial start, but then the problem re-occurs. What can I do?

I have the same problem on my laptop... I have tried to connect using an ethernet cord directly to the Airport and also via wifi and have encountered the same problem. The Airport Setup Assistant, Airport Utility, and iTunes don't recognize the Airport or the remote speakers attached. I can connect to the router when I input the IP address of the router (default 10.0.1.1) in the Airport Utility. I can also still connect wirlessly to the internet using the Airport.
I've checked and I have all the latest software and firmware.
    Windows XP SP2
    iTunes v7.0.2
    Airport Firmware v6.3
Wifi Adapter updated with most recent drivers
Ethernet Adapter updated with most recent drivers
I've disabled Windows Firewall, and in the settings I've even enabled UDP Port 5353. I was able to connect to the remote speakers in iTunes previously, but it stopped working recently. I think it may have stopped working when one of the following occured:
    1. Installed several XP security updates.
    2. Upgraded iTunes from 6.X.X to 7.0.2.
    3. My work installed Check Point VPN-1 SecureClient software.

  • HELP! iTunes won't load, gives Windows - No Disk error

    This is so aggravating!
Last week I purchased $100 worth of audio books to put on my iPod for a vacation. Immediately iTunes wanted me to upgrade to 5.0, so I did. That's where the nightmare began.
With both versions, when I click on the iTunes icon (or the menu item), I get the license agreement, click "agree", then wait a moment before getting the Windows - No Disk error telling me to put a disk in "the drive" (it doesn't specify which drive). The message doesn't go away no matter how many times I click, or how fast, (I've gone into the hundreds). The only way I can get rid of it is to go into control/alt/delete and cancel the iTunes.exe process.
I have now spent about 20 hours trying everything I've seen on all the boards. I have uninstalled using Windows uninstaller; I've reinstalled standalone quicktime; I've installed with the ethernet cord disconnected and the USB's disconnected (including external hard drive); I've made sure all firewalls, etc. were off (McAfee, not Norton). I've done everything but voodoo.
I can roll back to iTunes 4.9 but it won't let me access my very expensive iTunes music and books - it just tries to take me to the music store and tells me to upgrade to 6.0!!!!!
    Can someone please help?!

    hi scottymac!
    header; iTunes.exe - No disk
There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive \Device\Harddisk\DR5.
    hmmm. actually, i've had
    b mixed
results when trying to fix this one, and you're actually the first person who's reported only getting it
    b some
of the time (that i'm aware of).
so if you don't mind, let's try doing some basic research.
    (1) head into your "My Computer" while you've got the ipod plugged in. what drives are being assigned to what drive letters? for reference purposes, here's a screenshot of my "My Computer" window:
    http://www.pixentral.com/show.php?picture=1HtsRhQOZw6zixPuie63kEUx4RNKvP0
(your ipod may not show up in this window. don't panic.)
do you get the message when you're in this configuration?
    (2) could you head into your itunes "Advanced-General" subtab and take a screenshot of that for us? there's instructions on how to do that given here:

    Hi halb10567672,
You can download the setup file again from this Link (Download Acrobat products | Standard, Pro | XI, X ) and Burn it to a DVD Disc using Windows Explorer.
Please revert back for any further query or assistance.

  • Macbook Pro won't read windows OS disk?

Upgraded my MBP to a 500gig HD, Imaged the old to the new with carbon copy clone, everything work fine on Mac side, but when I try to reinstall windows VIA bootcamp it won't recognize the windows disk. Like it won't recognize the windows OS disk at all (no matter when I put it in). It's an OEM disk 32 bit vista or 7 (i have 2). The disks work in other machines and my MBP can see them from an external disk drive, but then bootcamp won't install them... I get a screen that goes from the apple, to a folder, to a circle with a line through it... The laptop read the Mac OS disk fine, other dvds, and cds fine. Any takers???

    Hi,
first: put your XP 64-bit CD as far away from your Mac as you can. Apples BootCamp does not support it
Second: I assume corectly that these are Retail or SystemBuilder XP discs, not some Recovery CDs or manufacturere-branded ones, right ?
Third: insert the 32-bit XP CD while in OSX and check with the Finder if it can be read there (checking for the 'usual' folders on it: i386, Support, etc and files: winip51.sp2 etc.).
Fourth: some people round here have successfully used a 'standard' DVD/CD-cleaner disc with their Macs.
Fifth: try making a 1:1-copy of your XP disc. You can use SimplyBurns in OSX for this.

  • Windows XP Disk Stuck in Drive - Help

I finally got around to installing windows XP with Boot Camp on my Mini. Unfortunately my keyboard (wireless) does not work during set up and I cannot get past a screen in the windows set-up.
When I reboot it defaults to the windows setup disk in the drive. How can I eject this disk..
Every time I restart it starts installing windows again...

    Hi Pumpkin,
sorry it didn't work for you.
Did you used Mac specific keyboard?
I just reinstalled my winXP in Parallels and used my Macally USB keyboard (made for a Mac). The keyboard should have an Eject key which is NOT usualy on PC generic keyboards. You hold the Eject right when you restart the Mini and it should eject the CD,DVD. It did for me...

  • Windows- No Disk error, HELP!

I have an ipod shuffle and when I connect it to the USB port, it loads up fine on itunes. Then as the music is synching, I get an error message that comes up reading "Windows-No Disk Exception Processing Message (then a whole bunch of numbers and letters). There are three options to cancel, try again or continue. Clicking any of the options does not help and only causes the error message to return.
I have tried the r's, and tried restoring the shuffle twice now. While the restore did allow for the music to start synching (whereas at first it wouldn't even let that happen), it eventually resulted in the same error message.
This is driving me crazy and making me so frustrated. When I first used it probably a month ago, it uploaded music fine. I don't understand where this sudden problem has come from. I read somewhere there could be software on my computer scanning the device which might be causing a problem, but I pulled up my running programs and there's nothing open other than a few programs, none of which are virus scanning software.
Help would be greatly appreciated since right now this product is pretty much useless. So much for apple products being so "trouble free."

I've been getting the same error on my 4G nano for the past week. I've had my nano for about a month and the first few weeks were fine. Tried it on 2 different computers (Vista and XP) and same problem. Tried it on a 3rd (XP) and it started ok. Problem started coming back after a day.
I was able to find a quick fix though. I noticed that sometimes the message says something like "iexplore.exe... no disk..." even if I don't even use IE. What I do is end iexplore.exe on task manager before running iTunes and syncing my nano. I don't get the error whenever I do this, but one drawback is that the contents of my nano suddenly pops up in a window - even when disk use is not enabled.
I've reset/restored my nano dozens and dozens of times to make sure it's clean. Leads me to believe it's a driver issue. Either that or I have a friggin malware problem I can't seem to find.
I'll be posting updates every now and then. I'm no expert so I'm hoping an Apple expert also steps in to give some input.

  • Windows - No Disk error message when connecting Ipod to computer

I recently connected my Ipod to the Computer as I have done for the last year and I am now getting an error message reading: "Windows - No Disk". It then asks me to insert a disk. I cannot cancel out, continue or retry which are the three choices. I eventually have to Ctrl + Alt + Del to close out Itunes. Can anyone help? Thank You.
    Dell XPS   Windows 2000

I have been ejecting it. This problem only began recently. I read through about 30 pages of this forum and found someone postoing about the same problem. They said it may be McAfee Viruscan in the background.I'll check that out.

  • "Windows - No Disk" error message on file transfer

    Hello!
I updated our ZDM7 server from plain old ZDM7 with no updates to ZDM7 SP1
IR1. Now, when initiating File Transfer operation with any workstation, up
    comes this error message:
    "Windows - No Disk"
    "Exception Processing Message c0000013 Parameters 75b6bf9c 4 75b6bf9c 75b6bf9c"
    [Cancel] [Try Again] [Continue]
If I click "Continue" 4 times, file transfer starts up successfully.
Any ideas about how to get rid of this annoying message?

  • Windows - No Disk Error - Please help!

Windows - No Disk Error - Please help!
    Hi,
I have the following set up:
    * Lenovo T-61p
    * Windows XP Pro, SP 3
    * HP Photosmart 8250 printer (with nothing plugged into the various card readers, and USB slot in the printer)
I am getting the following error:
    Windows - No Disk
Exception Processing Message 0xc0000013 Parameters 0x75CE023C
    0x84C40C84 0x75CE023C
I have done a lof experimenting and thru process of  elimination, and believe I have determined that this only happens when the HP Photosmart 8250 printer is plugged in to the USB slot of the computer.
I can stop it from happening by safely removing hardware, and removing the drive that the 8250 creates on your computer when you plug it in.  In my case, this is drive E.  I'm guessing if there was something in the the various card readers, and USB slot in the printer, that's what those would be, but I don't those use those functions of the printer.
I understand there is more at work than simply the printer, because I did not used to get this error, so some software changed as well, that is scanning all ports, and finding a drive that has no disk, and producing the error.
A simple google search finds a lot people all over the world having this problem, and are solving it in different ways, because the suspected source is different: Norton, HP, etc.
I have tried everything I have read, and the only thing that works was my own idea, of manually safely removing the drive the printer creates each time I plug in the printer.
Anyone every any better, more permanent solutions?  Or know what the real root of the problem is?  What is scanning all the drives and being showing an error message because it found an empty drive?
    Thanks and Happy Holidays/New Year!
