Windows 7 taking up more than 20GB

I recently bought the new 15 in. Retina MacBook Pro with ~500GB of HDD and 16GB of RAM.
I used Boot Camp to create a 51GB (it wouldnt let me choose 50GB for some strange reason) partition for Windows 7.
I downloaded the support drivers, created the iso file, and ect. and then installed Windows 7 64 bit.
When I finished with the installation of the support drivers that Boot Camp tells you too install, I checked my available space in My Computer and it says out of the 47GB of space on the partition I only have about 8GB of space left.
So where did my 39GB of space go?
So far I've been told AND also read on the box for Windows 7 that 20GB of memory is required for the 64bit.
I tried deleting temporary files and cleaned up my disk as well as deleting my restore points, and that freed up only about 1GB of space.
So anyone care to explain whats happening? Any feedback is much appreciated.

Agree entirely and couldn't fault starting at 100Gb.
You can expand the Windows partition using Winclone or CampTune.

  • Windows 8 OS taking up more than 100 GB on my new yoga 11s

    I don't know how to solve this.  I feel like I need an advanced degree in computer science to deal with all this windows 8 frustration.  I have a new 11s yoga--well not new enough or it would be going back to Best Buy.  I barely have anything downloaded on it, but the windows 8OS is taking up more than 100 GB on my system.  It has barely any memory left, I is showing in RED and warning me sometimes to close other apps.  I noticed that windows 64 bit only requires 20gb to download--why in the world is mine taking dangerously high levels of my GB?  Please help.

    Windows 8 should not use anywhere near that much memory.  I have a Yoga 13 which should be fairly similar, and there is only 31GB used on the harddisk, and this additionally includes half a dozen games, Microsoft Office, and a few more apps.
    Have a look at how much memory all the installed Apps are using, you can do this from the Metro interface by sweeping in from the right hand side of the screen, selecting Settings, then choose "Change PC settings", choose "Search and apps", then choose "App sizes", this will allow you to identify if there is one application that has used up all the disk space.
    You can also find the size of all the applications installed from the Control Panel (access by typing "control panel" in search box after sweeping in from the right in Metro), select Programs, then "Programs and features", then click on the column header "Size" to see if there are any installed applications taking up all the hard disk.
    Another option is to go to the Desktop, open the File Explorer, then click in the search box to the upper right.  This will open the Search toolbar, within which is a drop down entitled "Size", click on this and select "Gigantic>128MB".  This will display any large files, for example on my Yoga there is a single file "MEMORY.DMP" that is 543MB.  Have a look and see if there are any really large files that are using up your hard disk space.
    Another couple of thoughts, do have any external personal audio/video devices that are synced with the computer? For example if you have an MP3 player with 64GB of memory that is full of music that you have synced with the computer then that would fill the remaining hard disk space.
    I understand it can seem a little daunting trying to work out what is going on, personally I think it is worth perservering as the Yoga is a really nice laptop.  You of course have to realise that it is a very advanced piece of technology and software, but in being that advanced by definition it does mean that it is not as simple to operate as a lot of consumer gadgets.
    Good luck in working out what is using up all the hard disk space.

  • How do I find what "other" is in my storage on my mac? "Other" is taking up more than half of my storage on my half a year old MacBook Pro?

    I recently got a brand new MacBook Pro for my birthday (about 4 months ago). Pop ups have been showing up saying that my disk is almost full. I checked to see what was taking up the storage and it just said "other." This "other" stuff is taking up more than half of the space on my Mac. Does someone know how to fix this?

    For information about the Other category in the Storage display, see this support article. If the Storage display seems to be inaccurate, try rebuilding the Spotlight index.
    Empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. If you use iPhoto, empty its internal Trash first:
              iPhoto ▹ Empty Trash
    Do the same in other applications, such as Aperture, that have an internal Trash feature. Then restart the computer. That will temporarily free up some space.
    According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation—not the mythical 10%, 15%, or any other percentage. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of the data. There is little or no performance advantage to having more available space than the minimum Apple recommends. Available storage space that you'll never use is wasted space.
    When Time Machine backs up a portable Mac, some of the free space will be used to make local snapshots, which are backup copies of recently deleted files. The space occupied by local snapshots is reported as available by the Finder, and should be considered as such. In the Storage display of System Information, local snapshots are shown as  Backups. The snapshots are automatically deleted when they expire or when free space falls below a certain level. You ordinarily don't need to, and should not, delete local snapshots yourself. If you followed bad advice to disable local snapshots by running a shell command, you may have ended up with a lot of data in the Other category. Ask for instructions in that case.
    See this support article for some simple ways to free up storage space.
    You can more effectively use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) or GrandPerspective (GP) to explore the volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can also delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one. Note that ODS only works with OS X 10.8 or later. If you're running an older OS version, use GP.
    Deleting files inside a photo or iTunes library will corrupt the library. Changes to such a library must be made from within the application that created it. The same goes for Mail files.
    Proceed further only if the problem isn't solved by the above steps.
    ODS or GP can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
    Back up all data now.
    If you have more than one user account, make sure you're logged in as an administrator. The administrator account is the one that was created automatically when you first set up the computer.
    Install the app you downloaded in the Applications folder as usual. Quit it if it's running.
    Triple-click anywhere in the corresponding line of text below on this page to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper 2>&-
    sudo /Applications/GrandPerspective.app/Contents/MacOS/GrandPerspective 2>&-
    Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
    Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator. Ignore any other messages that appear in the Terminal window.
    The application window will open, eventually showing all files in all folders, sorted by size. It may take a few minutes for the app to finish scanning.
    I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means. When in doubt, leave it alone or ask for guidance.
    When you're done with the app, quit it and also quit Terminal.

    I have very little space left on the hard drive on my macbook, on my storage report it says "other" is taking up more than two thirds of the space on the hardrive. How can I identify what these files are?

    Hello,
    There is free software you can download that gives you a graphical image of what files are used on your hard drive. http://www.derlien.com/
    This may help you clean down your hard drive for more space.

  • How to find the more than 20GB tables

    Hi Friends,
    I would like to know the tables which has more than 20GB in oracle.
    If any one knows, Plz let me know.
    Thanks in Advance.

    Depending slightly on your definition of GB (i.e. the disk vendor's 1 billion bytes or normal people's 1024^3 bytes)
    SELECT owner, segment_name, SUM(bytes)/1024/1024/1024 GB
      FROM dba_segments
    WHERE segment_type = 'TABLE'
    GROUP BY owner, segment_name
    HAVING SUM(bytes) > 20 * 1024 * 1024 * 1024Remove the segment_type = 'TABLE' if you want all objects that are greater than 20 GB in size.

  • Problem with closing other firefox windows when window in use has more than 1 tab open

    If I have multiple firefox windows open, and the one that I am using has more than one tab open, when I try to close one of the windows that I am not using by hovering over the firefox icon on the taskbar, then clicking the cross on the other windows, a message appears asking me if I want to close a window with more than one tab open. This means that firefox is trying to close the window that I'm using, not the one I'm trying to close. Please note this only happens when I hover over the icon on the taskbar then click the cross for the window I want to close. If I open the window properly, then click the cross on the window itself, it works fine.
    Just wanted to know if anyone else has this problem, and if they do, then mozilla should probably fix it in their next update, it's getting really annoying now

    I can't find a bug on file for this on https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/ (although there are many taskbar-related issues under review).
    (1) Just to confirm, do you both have "Show tab previews in the Windows taskbar" turned off here:
    orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Tabs
    (2) Have you tried disabling Firefox use of hardware graphics acceleration?
    You usually need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
    orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced
    On the "General" mini-tab, uncheck the box for "Use hardware acceleration when available"
    If you restart Firefox, do you notice any changes?

  • Jre 1.5 waitfor hangs windows xp if output more than 17 lines

    I have seen many postings on the "waitfor" part of an external process. I am too having issues with it. For some reason when there is more than 17 lines of output, "waitfor" hangs. I am executing a simple external command to prove the point. I run the command c:\rundir.bat. All this program does is an "echo hello" multiple times (I alter the number of times to find the threshold).
    Any ideas?
    Code snipit:
    Command is an array of 3
    cmd[0] = "c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe"
    cmd[1] = "/C"
    cmd[2] = "c:\rundir.bat"
    p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec(cmd);
    rc = p.waitFor(); // Hangs forever if more than 17 lines of output.
    if (rc != 0) {
    success = false;
    br = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(p.getErrorStream()));
    else {
    success = true;
    br = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(p.getInputStream()));
    }

    1) Search these forums. This problem has been asked over and over again.
    2) Read the entire System.exec() and java.lang.Process javadoc. The situation you need to prevent is well-documented.
    Briefly put: the error and output streams of the external process must be timely read; failure to do so when executing a process which writes to either or both of these streams can cause deadlock, since writing to a stream may block and the operating system provides limited buffer space for these streams. You will need to use multiple threads.

    Hi all,
    Thanks for the helpful answers. I realized after your answers, my question was misunderstood.
    Ok, i can refer to billing documents one by one in the sales order creating screen i know, but i want to refer to many billing documents at once.
    In this mean, Srinath'a answer was very helpful. As i thought there is no other way except user-exit modification or new routine.
    Thank you all.

  • First backup is taking forever (more than two days) in my MacBook Air

    First backup is taking forever , painfully slow, I am using MacBook Air, what can I do to speed things up. is there a particular way to set TC up ?? I set it up to join an existing wireless network, is this right or wrong? I just need a few tips to make the backup faster.

    Answer: yes, the Time Capsule is junk - in my opinion. I was excited about an all-in-one router plus 1TB of backup wirelessly available, but if you check the many posts about this thing, you'll hear about numerous problems:
    - unbelievably slow backups, overnight or longer for the first, very long for even small backups after minor activity - and not necessarily due to network speeds.
    - heat issues - this thing runs very hot, even with fans running, and people have had to put little rubber feet under it to improve airflow, etc. - not something I think is reasonable for a $500+ item - some get an "overheating" message from the utility app.
    - problems with hanging - it hangs on "Preparing Backup" (as it did for me for days) and doesn't backup - thereby making the unit useless as it was designed.
    - mounting and recognition issues - not so much with me but for quite a few others.
    SEND IT BACK... I am sending mine back and going back to manual backups where I can see exactly what is being backed up to my external HDD and where it is. The opaque nature of the entire Time Machine backup is irritating to me - TC was "backing up" say, "75MB of 125.3MB" but I had no idea what it was backing up, and why only 125.3MB? Was that all my activity changed during the session? Or all sorts of system files, etc. being backed up? I'm not techie enough to get into the guts of it, so I am going back to my usual external HDD to do it by hand. It's a good habit to get into (if inconvenient compared to the TC) but at least I am secure with it.
    I am also not sure if TC can be used as a plug-and-play USB storage drive if I were to, say, just connect it to a Windows machine and try to access files in folders. I suppose not?

  • Is it possible to increase your cloud storage to more than 20gb?

    I would like to know if there is a way to gain or purchase more storage space on the creative cloud past the 20gb that came with my plan?

    As of now extra space can not be purchased, if there is any plan to make it available, we shall be informing our valued Users beforehand.
    You can go for single seat CC for Team where each seat has 100GB of space.

  • Windows Phone Hub with more than 2 sections causes ArgumentException when collapsing any section

    Hi there,
    I'm working on a Universal app which is using a Hub control to display different sections.
    On startup, I want to hide some of the sections. Using a button, I want to toggle between the visible sections using a binding property on the Visibility property (Handled in the ViewModel). In my ViewModel I have 2 boolean properties that are bound to the
    corresponding sections and are converted to Visibility using a BooleanToVisibilityConverter
    <Hub>
    <HubSection>
    <DataTemplate>
    <Button Content="Test" Command="{Binding SwitchVisibilityCommand}"/>
    </DataTemplate>
    </HubSection>
    <HubSection x:Name="First" Header="Test1A" Visibility="{Binding ElementName=pageRoot,
    Path=DataContext.FirstVisibleProperty, Converter={StaticResource ResourceKey=BooleanToVisibilityConverter} }"/>
    <HubSection x:Name="Second" Header="Test1B" Visibility="{Binding ElementName=pageRoot,
    Path=DataContext.SecondVisibleProperty, Converter={StaticResource ResourceKey=BooleanToVisibilityConverter} }"/>
    <HubSection x:Name="Third" Header="Test2A" Visibility="{Binding ElementName=pageRoot,
    Path=DataContext.ThirdVisibleProperty, Converter={StaticResource ResourceKey=BooleanToVisibilityConverter} }"/>
    <HubSection x:Name="Fourth" Header="Test2B" Visibility="{Binding ElementName=pageRoot,
    Path=DataContext.FourthVisibleProperty, Converter={StaticResource ResourceKey=BooleanToVisibilityConverter} }"/>
    </Hub>
    public class MainPageViewModel : ViewModel, IMainPageViewModel
    private bool firstVisibleProperty;
    private bool secondVisibleProperty;
    public MainPageViewModel()
    FirstVisibleProperty = true;
    SecondVisibleProperty = false;
    SwitchVisibilityCommand = new DelegateCommand(ExecuteCommand);
    private void ExecuteCommand()
    FirstVisibleProperty = !FirstVisibleProperty;
    SecondVisibleProperty = !SecondVisibleProperty;
    public bool FirstVisibleProperty
    get { return firstVisibleProperty; }
    set
    firstVisibleProperty = value;
    OnPropertyChanged(() => FirstVisibleProperty);
    public bool SecondVisibleProperty
    get { return secondVisibleProperty; }
    set
    secondVisibleProperty = value;
    OnPropertyChanged(() => SecondVisibleProperty);
    public DelegateCommand SwitchVisibilityCommand { get; set; }
    This setup is working fine on Windows, but in Windows Phone I get an unhandled exception (ArgumentException with the message ´Value does not fall within the expected range.´).
    When I reduce the amount of hubsections to two, one that is visible and one that is collapsed, everything is working fine again. When I use multiple sections that all use the the same visibility property no exception is thrown
    When I set both properties to true in the viewmodel, also no exception is thrown.
    I've also tried the following (Without succes):
    - change my boolean properties to Visibility properties
    - use different boolean properties for each of the sections
    I do not understand why this exception is thrown and the exception itself is to vague to give any useful information
    How can I resolve this error??

  • "Other" taking up more than 5GB on my 4S. Please help!

    Hello,
    I need some technical help with my 16GB iPhone 4S. The problem is that the yellow "other" is taking up 5.15GB of space. My tech support warranty has expired, so I can't get in touch with an Apple tech helper. Has there been any update in regards to this issue? This has been happening for years now. Has Apple worked out a solution that does not involve a restore?
    I don't use my phone as an MP3 player (I only have ONE small MP3 that I use as a wake-up alarm), I've deleted all text messages/iMessages, deleted all the photos and videos I took, reset the phone by holding the home button and the sleep/power button, synced with iTunes on the computer, I have third party apps, but I don't have any files saved on my phone through them. I see no reason for the "other" space to be so large.
    I've looked into this issue and COUNTLESS other iPhones (and even iPads) have had this issue. There are only two non-solution type solutions I found in my research. One is to swipe on "Music" in the "Usage" settings and restarting the phone right away, but this did not work for me. And the other is to completely restore your iPhone as new (this is NOT a solution, really.).

  • Windows 2008 not allocating more than 8GB of memory to all processes

    Hi,
    We have a web server with windows 2008 R2 on Amazon-EC2. Recently we have upgraded our server from one instance type to a higher one. New one has around 68GB of memory. How ever overall allocation of memory is not going above 8GB.
    When I looked at w3wp in process explorer, I have observed "\KernelObjects\MaximumCommitCondition" and "KernelObjects\LowMemoryCondition" kernel events. I could not understand the reason for "low memory" events in spite
    of the 60GB of available memory.
    At any point of time %committedBytesInUse counter is showing only 5%.
    Can someone help me in making me understand on what is going wrong here?

  • Insert taking place more than once

    Hi,
    I have a jsp page where the user does some selection in the drop down lists. Here I want to insert userName, date into Oracle table.I am able to do that. But the problem is it is inserting twice as the page refreshes when the user does some selection. I want to insert only once.How can I fix this.
    Zarina.

    You can set a flag to say if its already inserted once, the flag is flipped and it will not update again. Or you can have database constraints where the 2nd insert would fail.
    Hope this helps

  • Oracle Service taking memory more than 50MB. Why?

    We are using Oracle 8i and having One Database and 5 tablespaces. Will these effect the memory occupied by Service?

    Well, the problem is: as for me it's 14 uselessly consumed MiB.. the instance is not even in nomount status, so I would guess it'd take 14MiB plus 80MiB for the S.G.A. but I did not checked. I won't play too much with the monitorring computer ;)
    The sole principle of needing a service for the Instance to run on Win* is weird, but I think mandatory because of the O.S.'s stange design.
    There is no Java Pool, nor is Java installed in my OID database. I just don't need it to have the OID functionning. In fact, the only database in which it is installed is my HTMLDB database. 80MiB is the most reasonable S.G.A. size I've found for running this OID. Using this memory size I don't have to bother with the OID perf. It's running smooooooothly :-)
