Windows 8.1 Apps and Proxy Auto Configuration files

We have installed an app on a number of Surface Pro devices for my client.  After installation, the app is unable to connect to the backend service.  The following details the configuration:
The apps are installed on Surface Pro 2 devices running Windows 8.1 Professional with an Enterprise Sideloading License
The devices are connected to the company's corporate domain wifi network.
The service is hosted on the same domain network
The network has a proxy configured via the following PAC file:
       function FindProxyForURL(url, host) {
// URLs within this network are accessed through
      if (shExpMatch(url,"*checklistapp.uhs-pruitt.com/*"))      {return "DIRECT";}
      if (shExpMatch(url,"*asgs01.uhs-pruitt.com/*"))      {return "DIRECT";}
// All other requests go through port 8080 of proxy.example.com.
// should that fail to respond, go directly to the WWW:
      return "PROXY wsas360-01.uhs-pruitt.com:80; DIRECT";
The proxy requires authentication when not using a DIRECT connection
When using this PAC file, the app cannot connect to the service (which is at
https://checklistapp.uhs-pruitt.com/Service ), despite the fact that netsh shows that the app is using a direct (no-proxy) connection.
The app connot connect if last line of the PAC file is changed to
DIRECT; PROXY wsas360-01.uhs-pruitt.com:80
When hard coding the proxy (The url below is hosted at 10.100.255.250), the app is able to connect

Hi Ryan,
If you use an Internet proxy server that requires authentication, you may encounter problems when you use apps that connect to the Internet.
Please refer to following article to configure your settings:

  • Java proxy auto-configuration and Microsoft PAC script extensions

    Hi,
Within our proxy auto-configuration PAC script, we have to use the Microsoft IPv6 PAC script extensions such as myIPAddressEx rather than the old myIPAddress. This is required in order to get the PC's internal 10.0.0.0/8 IPv4 address rather than the IPv6 or wi-fi card addresses that are often returned when using myIPAddress.
However, as soon as we change from myIPAddress to myIPAddressEx, Java seems to be unable to process the PAC script.
Here are the extensions (introduced many years ago:
IPv6-Aware Proxy Helper API Definitions (Windows)
Question - does Java support these extensions or have plans to?
    Thanks,

  • How to distribute my windows phone 8 app and windows store app without publishing in the store

How to distribute my windows phone 8 app and windows store app without publishing in the store
any business license or enterprise license needed..
I am a windows developer talking behalf of my company i.e  wipro
I have a question about the enterprise license   and  we are building an app for the limited users i.e our company employees and users and we do not want to publish in the store
    How to release the app?
    what are licenses etc needed?

    Hi,
for developers distributing apps without Publishing in the Store, the sideloding Enterprise key license through volume licensing is required.
Starting May 1, 2014, customers who want to enable sideloading will be able to purchase an Enterprise Sideloading key for $100 through the Open License program.
An unlimited number of devices can be enabled for sideloading using this key.

  • Apps on computer but in a different folder.  Can I merge them?I have 180 apps that iTunes can no longer "find".  They appear in "my apps" and there is a file location for them.  Can old purchases be restored without doing each one individually?

I have 180 apps that iTunes can no longer "find".  They appear in "my apps" and there is a file location for them.  Can old purchases be restored without doing each one individually?

That did the trick! Thank you.
The free trial is all I needed to migrate my iPod Touch library into my main iTunes library. For those that want to use this tool for the same needs there are some things that need to be moved manually, e.g. Apps. But you can do it within the program very easily. Also iBooks/PDFs etc. need to be moved manually. The help section will point you in the right direction.
No more switching iTunes libraries for me.

  • TouchSmart Photo App and Support for PNG files?

Please, somebody tell me that I'm crazy and that the TouchSmart Photo app really can be made to support PNG file types! If not, who designed this software!? Can't browse the network for content stored on an HP MediaSmart Server. Can't view PNG files in the Photo application. What else can't this software do!?

    Hi ChrisT,
Thanks for the suggestion. I went to:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?os=4063&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&sw_lang=&product=4148...
Which is the software update page for my model. I see 10 items under Software Solutions, 8 of which are just video tutorial updates, not actual application updates (and none of those are for the Photo App). The two application updates are:
HP TouchSmart Recipe Box Application Update
    HP Support Assistant Application Update
So, are you saying that PNG file types are supported in some versions of the Photo App and I don't have the correct version? Or in other words, what am I missing?
    Cheers,
    D

I don't know where to start, not ever having seen this message.  :-))  Any suggestions much appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Raymon, it sounds like file corruption, I doubt there is a real font file called that.
Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive & clear caches.)
If still no change after a regular boot, then open Font Book in Applications & see if you can find it there, or have Font Book Validate all fonts.

  • WLAN Controllers and IP Auto-configured clients

We have an open access SSID that supplies no DHCP services. The valid network range is to be the ip address of autoconfigured clients (namely Microsoft's 169.254.x.x). When I associate to the WLC no problem. My client settles on an address (with the limited connectivity warning) and shows connected to the WLAN. However, the WLC shows the client Associated but not authenticated. The WLC also does not display the autoconfigured IP address, just 0.0.0.0. The only way communication will succeed is if I statically assign a valid address (private or public) other than the 169.254.x.x address range. Then no problems. Has anyone else experienced this? If so is there any way to make it work using the autoconfiguration ip address range? Thanks! Drew

    Hey Scott,
Hmmm, interesting thought on the AD_HOC capability! I'll have to see if they can at least communicate with each other, I suspect they will though. Let me answer your questions:
    1. Yes, ZWC was being used.
    2. Rough scan on MS forums for autoconfig nothing jumps out as to conflict with Cisco WLC interaction.
    3. I've not tried hard coding the Alternate config. We were hoping to allow users to simply associate to this DMZ wlan/lan and not have a need to furnish any network services on it (thus the autoconfiguration).
    4. I've tried statically assigning the 169.254.x.x address to the NIC and it still could never communicate with the WLC interfaces established in that VLAN. The interesting part was the the Status gui on the NIC indicated packets being sent out but nothing was coming back from the infrastructure.
We've just gotten Network Instruments monitoring solution, however still haven't had a chance to install. Maybe now is a good time!
One more tidbit, if I plug the client into a wired lan connection and leave him with the autoconfigured IP it works just fine. I'm suspecting that the WLC's are not recognizing that the autoconfig address is "valid" OR the MS client (in our case laptop w/XP) is not passing this information to the WLC's to satisfy their security policy of DHCP_REQ.
Question: The DHCP_REQ displayed on the WLC's client details was indicated even though I had deselected the DHCP Server Required option on the WLAN configuration. Is the WLC indicating this on my client because he is detecting the DHCP broadcasts from the client? I've got it working but it would sure be nice to KNOW WHY! Hahahah.... Thanks again Scott for taking the time to listen to the rambling!
    Sincerely,
    Andrew

  • Windows 8.1 Update and the EI.cfg file

    Hi
I have noticed that, installing Windows 8.1 Update Core or Pro with the Multiple Editions MSDN iso, I see, with the slmgr.vbs /dli command, that its distribution channel is Retail. If, however, I add the EI.cfg file
    [Channel]
    Retail
    [VL]
    0
in sources directory of the iso using Windows ADK for Windows 8.1 Update, the distribution channel becomes Volume. How come?
    Where am I wrong?
    Thanks
    Bye
    Balubeto

Since the Windows Update 8.1 Update (Multiple Editions) MSDN iso includes the retail editions of the Core and Professional, how I should do to change this iso so that, during the installation, allow me to choose which edition to install?
In addition, I would include in this iso my two serial numbers of installation (one for the Core and the other for the Professional) so that I should not insert any serial number during installation.
So, what should I do to reach my goal?
    Thanks
    Bye

  • Access proxy from terminal using proxy auto-config

I know about using ntlmaps to wrapper my proxy configurations e get access from Terminal, iTerm2, &c exporting http_proxy variable and others. But I don't want go on using this approach because it simply ***** (forgive me for this word...) for a lot of issues.
I would like simply setup my proxy environment on Network Preferences/Advanced/Automatic Proxy Configuration: (host: http://myproxy/proxy.pac) and using this setup for a whole system, including my terminals. Therefore, are there any way to reach it?
Another details, my proxy is authenticated and uses ntlm type and in browser I use internet without problems.
Thanks a lot for any help!
    -Leo

I am not quite sure what you are looking for. Mac OS X has supported auto proxy configuration since 10.6 Snow Leopard was introduced (acutally in response to a request I made ). If you open System Preferences, click on Network, then go to the Advanced settings for your network interface, in the Proxies tab there is an option called Auto Proxy Discovery. This is different to Automatic Proxy Configuration which was also available in previous versions of OS X. Automatic Proxy Configuration uses a selected PAC file (Proxy Auto Configuration file) but Auto Proxy Discovery uses the WPAD method of finding your proxy server.
See this article for information about WPAD (Web Proxy Automatic Detection).
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_Proxy_Autodiscovery_Protocol
WPAD uses either an option advertised from your DHCP server giving the address of your proxy server, or WPAD can use a standard URL based on your domain name to download a dat file containing your proxy server details.
I have seen reports saying the the DNS method is problematic with Mac OS X but also seen reports that the DHCP method does work with this option successfully. So my suggestion is to define the DHCP option code 252 to advertise your proxy server.
Note: Thanks to yet another request I made in the past the Mac OS X DHCP Server can be manually configured to define additional DHCP option codes including option 252. The ability to define DHCP option codes was added in Mac OS X 10.5 Server (Leopard).

  • Remove need developer licence pop up while installing windows 8.1 app

I have developed windows 8.1 app and created installation package for it. I need to push the app in client systems through SCCM. But the app has a pop asking for MSDN credentials for developer's licence. How do i remove that pop up and install the app silently?
    Thanks in advance.

It sounds like you are using the development test script Visual Studio creates. That is only for testing and requires the developer license. You don't use it for production side-loading.
    See
Planning to Deploy Windows 8 Apps in Configuration Manager
The folks in the TechNet forums can provide more help with side-loading if you need it. I'll move this post over for you.
