Windows 8.1 Loss of Vantage Suite

I have recently upgraded my T410 from Windows XP to Windows 8.1.  The Upgrade went smoothly, however, I amnow  not able to access any of my Thinkvantage Suite.  The blue Thinkvantage button is completely dead.  Does anyone know how to fix this problem please?  Thanking You.

I have checked my T410 and I am running a 32 bit version of Windows 8.1.  I used the Windows upgrade download  package which upgraded my computer from XP 32 bit to Windows 8.1 automatically.  It would appear that the Windows upgrade performed correctly i.e. 32 bit XP to 32 bit 8.1.  I have downloaded all known (to me) windows and lenovo updates, up to and including 5.05.  I have a fully operational ThinkVantage System Update  in place.  Windows 8.1 is working perfectly.  My only problem is the non-operational ThinkVantage blue button and my inability  to access my ThinkVantage Suite.  I do however get the black Thinkpad window on initial startup of my laptop.  Do you or does anyone else have any ideas as to what I have missed or have done wrong?  Thanks Again.

    The National Instruments Domain Service service terminated unexpectedly.  It has done this 1 time(s).
    For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
    I checked the forums at NI and found a similar problem with a computer with Windows Vista installed. I have Windows XP Professional installed on the computer, but tried the update through the self updating feature of the NI software.
    After the update the problem remains exactly the same.
    To find out more about the error, I checked several Windows properties to identify the cause of the problem. One thing I found was on the Services control, under Administrative Tools. After the error message during boot, the services window shows up 2 services whose status is "Stopping" and the startup type is "Automatic". This services are:
    Lookout Citadel Driver
    National Instruments Time Sincronization
    I'm using an IBM ThinkPad T30 (Type 2366-BG1) with Windows XP Professional with 768Mb of memory, 80GB HDD.
    Can anyone give me some hints on this matter?
    Thank you in advance.

    Good morning.
    I tried the steps suggested but the problem remained. I then decided to try some aditional steps and apparently the problem is solved. I describe the steps I took bellow.
    The problem was related to my antivirus / firewall solution, Panda Antivirus + Antispyware 2007.
    1. I changed the previously mentioned Windows services startup to "Manual" instead of "Automatic".
    2. Rebooted the computer.
    3. Opened the services control in Administrative Tools.
    4. Selected the first service "Citadel..." and pressed the "Start" button.
    5. After a few seconds, the firewall solution presented a window stating that the program was attempting to access the internet (or my LAN). I selected "Always allow".
    6. I repeated this step for all the others NI services. Some produced the same feedback, others didn't.
    7. Changed the startup type of the services to the values I had written down before.
    8. Rebooted the computer and everything worked fine.
    It seems my firewall solution is unable to cope with a program trying to access the Internet (or network) before a user logs in.
    Thank you for your support.
    Best regards,

  • Windows platform, cannot use several of Suite programs now as they are coming up as trial versions since I started using Cloud..sure this is not a new topic, but not much Adobe support. Appreciative of help.

    CS 6 Design and Web premium individual programs (not in use for some time) are now launching as trial versions since the advent of Adobe Cloud. Windows platform. I am sure I am one of about a million people with this issue, but having trouble getting specific suppport, no telephone numbers and installing this suite of programs was a nightmare....appreciative of any help today!

    Thank you for your time and patience today. Your link for support takes me to Adobe Support Help "Hell" which is nothing more than a circular loop of links that do not address this situation. It is not a CS6 issue; it is not a specific software issue, none of the links address this situation which is an ADOBE issue...created by the Adobe Cloud process, not by me.
    The "serial number is not valid" link I have already explored and their wonderful solutions do not apply and their suggestion to reinstall my software is the ABSOLUTELY LAST THING THE WORLD I will ever do after my initial experience with the original post-antipiracy measures installation. I understand antipiracy actions, but Adobe's response is out of control and not working for those of us who have honestly purchased the software. I did not create this issue, Adobe did. They should provide a telephone number with a live body to fix this issue for those of us affected. BTW I have been trying to resolve this on my own for one week before I even posted in this forum. Again I appreciate your responses, but they are not resolving my issue.

  • Rewinding or FFWDing Media Center TV sometimes results in TV Window blacking and loss of audio

    I recently reinstalled Win 7 SP 1 Home Premium 32 bit and I'm still experiencing the subject problem that prompted the reinstall.
    I'll be watching live TV with no problems and then decide to rewind a bit by clicking the rewind button a few times (the more times I click and the more rapidly, the more likely this problem seems to occurr) and the Media Center TV screen/window will sometimes
    'smoothly' go black also sometimes with a loss of audio. The timer shows TV playback is still occurring and then after a while - 5 ~20 seconds, the picture and then eventually, the sound, return. This occurs both in Windowed or Full Screen TV viewing.
    My system details are:
    Intel DG45ID Motherboard with E8500 Core2 Duo 3.16 GHz CPU and using onboard G45 Graphics
    4 GB (2 x 2GB) of compatible Corsair DDR2 RAM
    Compro Technology E900F TV Card (receiving just DVB-T UK Freeview broadcasts)
    4 x 1 TB Samsung HDDs configured in a 2 TB RAID 0+1 Array using native board functionality
    All the latest drivers are installed correctly - chipset, TV card, Grahics, Audio and Intel RST as well as ME software etc. I've also tested with both Playready installed and not installed - with no difference.
    Does anyone know whats causing this or workarounds to cure it please?

    Hello Niki,
    Many thanks for your reply and that very interesting link. I've reviewed that workaround more deeply and it seems to stop the screen blacking/loss of audio problem but according to one of the threads that it originated from here:
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_other-tv/losing-soundpicture-when-rewinding-live-tv-in/6e0f575a-4bed-4248-9cac-a6392b7b6d16 , the 'fix' also disables MHEG 5 Functionality, which for me, as a UK user of the BBC Red Button and other
    interactive services, is NOT acceptable. The BBC have recently ceased their Ceefax (Teletext) service which has been superceded by the red button MHEG-5 based service so bug free MHEG-5 is our only option.
    I see that the other thread I linked to has had no official comment from Microsoft - as a Moderator here (clearly someone with connections/influence at Microsoft to at least some degree) will you kindly pass this up the chain to be fully and properly addressed
    please Niki? Otherwise maybe someone who is responsible for this field at Microsoft would care to comment here (and over on that other Microsoft thread that's been awaiting their input for some time)??
    I realise that
    MHEG 5 , despite being an international standard, isn't utilised all around the world (notably not in the USA) so I hope this doesn't affect Microsofts prioritisation of providing a proper fix to this issue.

  • "NOKIA WINDOWS PORTABLE DEVICE DRIVER" on PC Suite...

    I just upgraded my pc suite from 6.82 to 6.83. I have Windows Media Player11 installed. Almost the PC Suite setup was complete... Just when windows found a new hardware called "NOKIA WINDOWS PORTABLE DEVICE". But for full installation it requirs the prefered drivers to be installed. But it didn't found that i guess ! So it showed me an error msg.."The device can't be inslled" So, I opened device manager and unistalled "N70"(My phone) under portable devices. Then I reconnected my phone...and started Add new hardware wizard...At last the portable device installed ..But then I got another msg..which says..In future this device may not work properly !
    Then I reopened device manager and under portable devices i found N70 which was installed succesfully..but the main one "Nokia windows portable devices" had an exclamanation mark and the status was "This device cannot start. (Code 10)" ! So...what the hell is this and if i had to download the previous version again..then how could i ?
    CoOL

    Same here - Windows XP, Nokia N70, PC Suite 6.83. Very annoying. Found that the answer was to uninstall software and throw PC out of Window. Drove over phone then dropped it from an upstairs window. Finally plunged phone into icy water and cursed it until green in the face.
    Also, found out that reinstalling the software seemed to cure it. Had to go to device manager first and delete the Nokia N70 device that Windows had placed under 'Portable devices'

  • Problem with applet, popup window and focus loss

    Hi all !
    I've got a problem when my applet lose the focus. Let me explain :
    I've got an applet embed in a jsp page. There are several buttons in it that allow the user to open modal windows.
    The problem comes when the user gives the focus to another application whithout closing the modal window first.
    When he tries to come back to the web page owning the applet (using the task bar), then the modal window stays behind it and blocks any action on the applet.
    Does anyone know how to force the modal window to be displayed in front of the applet, even when the user plays with focuses ?
    Thank's in advance.

    thank you for your help, sils.
    I've written that code :
    * Cr le 31 aot 05
    package com.scor.apricot.web.rpc.ltnp.applet.listener.ldf;
    import java.awt.event.WindowAdapter;
    import java.awt.event.WindowEvent;
    import javax.swing.JDialog;
    import javax.swing.JPanel;
    public class AppletWindowListener extends WindowAdapter {
         private JPanel panel;
         private JDialog dialogWindow;
         public AppletWindowListener(JPanel panel, JDialog dialogWindow) {
              this.panel = panel;
              this.dialogWindow = dialogWindow;
         public void windowActivated(WindowEvent e) {
              if (dialogWindow!=null && dialogWindow.isShowing())
                   dialogWindow.toFront();
    }Is that right ?
    I don't know how to add the listener, where must I put the addWindowListener method ? It seems that this method cannot be used with a JApplet object.

  • Installing windows 7 from a USB Drive(Suitable for netbooks)

    1. Convert your Setup DVD to an ISO
    If you only have DVD-based install media, you must first convert this disc to an ISO file. (Remember that you must use the 32-bit version.) Insert the Setup DVD, close the Auto Run window, and then run ImgBurn. In the main ImgBurn window, choosecreate image file from disc. (Optionally change the destination location to your desktop or somewhere obvious.) Click the graphical Create Image button in the bottom left to create the image. ImgBurn will create two files, the ISO you need and a separate unnecessary file that ImgBurn could use later.
    2. Copy the ISO to a USB key
    Launch the Windows 7 USB DVD Download Tool (as it's identified in Start Menu Search) and insert the USB storage device you want to use. In Step 1 of the application wizard, choose the ISO file you created in the first step of these directions (or the ISO file you downloaded from Microsoft) and click Next. In Step 2, choose USB device. In Step 3, choose the appropriate USB media from the drop-down list and then click Begin copying. The tool will (slowly) create a bootable USB-based install media. (Note that you must first copy any data off of the USB device as it will need to format and overwrite it.)
    3. Backup your existing data with Windows Easy Transfer
    If you want to back up your existing documents and settings, the next step is to runWindows Easy Transfer. On the netbook, boot into the current Windows XP-based environment and insert the USB key into a spare USB port. Navigate to the\support\migwiz folder (typically D:\support\migwiz) and run migwiz.exe, which is the executable file for the Windows Easy Transfer utility. Use this utility to backup your personal data.
    4. Clean install and activate Windows 7
    Next, you need to reboot the netbook and boot off of the USB key. (How you do this will vary from machine to machine--for example, on my son's netbook, you hit the F12 key to pick the boot media--but you should see a message on the initial BIOS screen telling you how to make it work; otherwise, check your netbook's documentation.) Run Setup normally, choosing the Custom install type (not Upgrade). Be sure to try and enter your new Windows 7 product key during Setup as well, if that option is offered. You may also get a choice to use the existing disk (in which case a windows.old folder structure will be created)

    I think you need to fix your links, you seem to have maybe copied the post from another board / forum, the link style you have inserted doesn't work here.

  • Windows 8 - Random loss of network

    Hello! I posted the following in the community forums and it was recommend may I post this here as well..
    Hoping someone can help!
    I have been battling an issue with a PC we have that will randomly loose its network.
    HP PC running Windows 8
    RTL8168 (Latest 8.26 drivers - static IP) >ZyXEL 48PT > Edgemax Lite > Cable Modem
    This PC runs some network intensive tasks, on average it is receiving 150mb of data but that can spike. Usually what happens is every couple of days the network will just "stop".  At first I thought it had something to do with the network
    driver, so I updated it. Then I disable IPv6, then I disabled anything that mentioned power management in relation to the realtek device. Uninstalled Avast and enabled Defender. Nothing I have done appears to fix the issue.
    When the network stops, it no longer receives connections and I cannot for instance, ping the router nor network switch. At first I thought I was looking at port exhaustion but my service ports go from 100 to 110 on average while working to 20 when the issue
    is present. I can see when it starts because within event viewer I see DNS errors that are generated from my script trying to email me telling me the system is down (Name resolution for the name smtp.gmail.com timed out after none of the configured DNS servers
    responded.). When I had the wifi adapter enabled just for the fun of it, I noticed it would constantly drop and would see DHCP issues when this even was taking place. I have re-disabled the wifi adapter so this is not part of the issue just an interesting
    note that it seems to be affected by it as well.
    When this happens I can still remotely connect to the router through the web, I can connect to the ZyXEL switch, I can connect to other PCs on the network remotely and have no issues. I run a script that pings the network switch every 5 minutes. If it receives
    a reply from it quits, if it receives anything else it will flag itself as being in an error state and the next time it runs if the connection is still not present it will reboot the PC which is the only way I have found to fix this issue.
    I had it run netstat and ipconfig before the shutdown command and noticed the local connections that generate all the traffic (which I can connect to on other machines) will stay in a SYN_SENT state.  Ipconfig looks like it should and doesn't display
    any obvious issues.
    Unfortunately because I am never there physically when it happens I haven't been able to try pulling the network cord or to try disable/enable and seeing what happens. The systems needs to stay up so I can't leave it in this state to try these things.
    The one constant I can state it seems to be related to the amount of traffic being passed through, which is kind of why I thought port exhaustion. If I enable a specific backup service related to the traffic being generated it will happen every night vs
    every couple days. So more traffic means quicker issue.
    I have scoured the Internet for the past week and see related issues with windows 7 and windows 8.1 - I can't seem to find a resolution though, hoping someone has more things to try before I upgrade to 8.1 and see if that fixes anything.

    An update I suppose.. I tried to uninstall the drivers and reinstall the HP drivers. This ended badly.
    Lost the Ethernet adapter all together with a Code 10 - then I uninstalled the HP drivers basically rolling it back to zero and it wouldn't say Code 10 but the network adapter showed network cable unplugged. A combination of trying last known good drivers,
    deleting all drivers from the driver store, etc resulted in the same two scenarios.
    I bit the bullet and updated to 8.1 and the system loaded with the base drivers. Still showed Code 10. I clicked on update and allowed the device to update via windows update, rebooted, still Code 10.
    I went into the BIOS - enabled and re-disabled power saving mode. Made no other changes, rebooted and it is now working with whatever drivers Windows Update installed.
    Very odd experience for me, I am now in a holding pattern to wait and see if the whole reason for all of this is still an issue or not.

  • Windows 10 Upgrade loss of rear audio jack output on HP Envy Desktop

    Beats and all audio software apps work fine after Window 10 install; however I've lost output in all but one of my rear audio jacks during playback using any audio application (Media Player, Cakewalk, etc.).  I went to manage audio devices on control panel and configure/test Speakers/Headphones and I got output out of all of the rear jacks to my speakers during testing; but, not during playback from audio applications.

    I found a solution.  After posting this question I went back through the various options for audio and updated my audio driver.  I have since received a reply from the Microsoft Community forum ( http://answers.microsoft.com ) that confirms this.> Go to the device manager (Press Windows key + X, select device manager.> Locate audio adapter.  In my case I had two headings for audio devices, "Audio inputs and outputs", and "Sound, video and game controllers. > I updated the driver for "IDT High Definition Audio CODEC" under "Sound, video and game controllers".   It worked. > I had to restart twice for it to take effect.> It looks like it's the same driver for "Speakers/Headphones" under "Audio inputs and outputs".> Updating drivers is reversible using the "Roll Back Driver" button.

  • BIOS Update / RAID 1 / Windows XP Data Loss Horror - HELP!

    I cannot even begin to fathom how this tragedy occured.  Upon my initial build of the system in September, everything went flawlessly.  Eventually around October I updated the bios from 1.2 to 1.3, then in January to 1.4.  The moment I updated the bios to 1.4, windows began showing the onboard mirrored RAID 1 drives as two separate hard drives and I was promted to re-activate windows.
    The system functioned fine, but now both hard drives in the RAID 1 were visible under My Computer.  The drives seemed to stay the same size so I felt comforatble that it was still mirroring and I wans't too worried - but I didn't watch that very closely.  Also interesting is that both the drives indicated that they were shared.  When I tried to unshare them, Windows refused saying that the share was only for administrative purposes.  The computer was fine for what I'm guessing now is 10 days.  On 1/31/05 I ran Sandra tune up wizard and I got a BSOD and a re-start.  This surprised me because my system has been phenomenally stable and it never reboots or locks up.  So when it re-starts, it promts me to re-start again to finish installing my new hardware (I could not find any new hardware in task manager).  I restarted (and boy do I regret that), and upon restarting, the RAID 0 was represented by one drive letter again as it should be.
    BUT the entire system lost 10 days woth of complete data!  It was like a time warp from 1/31/05 to 1/19/05.  All my documents for the 11 days - GONE, all my emails - Gone!  I did a system search and there was not one file modified after 1/19/05 on the whole computer.  I not prompted for nor did I run any sort of restore program.  Freaking out that I lost so much data, I ran R-undelete and easy recovery profesional which were not able to find hide nor hair of my lost files.  I am completely stumped by this and I didn't even think somehting like this was possible.
    So what do you think happened?  Some theories:  When both drives became listed, it stopped writing to one drive, when windows realized it was one drive, it (or somehow the onboard hardware realized it was one drive) the drives became rectified to the last time the data coincided - 1/19/05.  I don't know about this theory, I'm just guessing.
    I really don't have any good theories, just a throbbing headache and a lot of work to make up.  Any thoughts or help anyone could offer would be appreciated.

    Bump - And I see other people reporting problems with Windows Xp seeing two drives in the RAID array after BIOS update!
