Windows 8.1 Start up customisation of mouse colour and background

Hey
Im trying to change the default colour of the mouse from white to black and the background for bespoke user with eye sight issues anyone got any ideas on how this could be done ? (pre login window)

1]Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Search. (If you're using a mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer down, and then click
Search.)
2]In the search box, enter Change how your mouse works, tap or click
Settings, and then tap or click Change how your mouse works.
      Select the following option:
Change the color and size of mouse pointers. You can use these options to make the mouse pointer larger, or change the color to make it easier to see.

  • Mouse buttons and keyboard randomly stop responding on secondary display

    Hey,
I'm facing this weird problem after a recent upgrade to Snow Leopard:
In about half of the cases I'm switching to application windows on a secondary/external display the mouse buttons and Macbook keyboard are unresponsive. I have to keep clicking/pressing for some time or have to switch between applications to get them working, until they'll fail again after some time.
I tested it with two different external displays with VGA and DVI adapter, different screen resolutions, I tested the mouse and mouse software, both keyboard and mouse work fine with the same applications moved to the primary laptop screen, trackpad works fine too.
This occurred after the upgrade to Snow Leopard on a 2008 unibody Macbook. Updates to 10.6.2 didn't solve the problem.
I'd be happy if anyone could help me with this issue.
    Thanks

You do not provide the full model number but if it is an AMD processor you are seeing the start of video issues that plague that series. The freeze is caused by bad video memory which is a part of the video card in turn part of the motherboard. I have been getting a high percentage of people who do not respond back to posts so I am not going to write everything about your issue; it could be a book. I am happy to help further if you have any questions. There are some repair options but at the end of the day, you might want to consider a new laptop.

Will not show up in safe mode, will not show when started from Windows 7 DVD.
I suspect the Mac update wiped out my PC video drivers but can not think of a way to re-install?
Can see the PC volume from Mac side with files.
I've looked at all the online solutions so far and have tried most of them without success. Please help!

    EDIT: RESOLVED
For anyone else who finds their way here like I did, this link did it for me: https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/527599/windows-8-issues-solved-please-r ead-if-you-39-re-having-black-screen-and-or-flickering-/
Specifically, the posts by Dunsany and valkyr did the trick.  I booted in safe mode, uninstalled and deleted the Nvidia driver, disabled automatic driver installation, and restarted normally.  I then manually downloaded and installed the previous Nvidia driver for my graphics card (which at the time of this writing was 335.23, rather than the latest which was 337.88), and everything is now bueno!
Two hiccoughs along the way: First, when I tried to uninstall the Nvidia driver the first time, when I restarted I got the login screen (which was a good sign), but it quickly went black again.  I powered down, restarted in safe mode again, and repeated the uninstallation process, and it worked the second time.  Second, when I started the manual install of the 335.23 driver, the computer played a sound similar to the one for disconnecting a USB device, and the screen went black.  I'd seen a lot about trying to increase the brightness (though it hadn't worked up to this point; but if you haven't tried it yet, might as well); I tried it, and it worked! So far I'm back up and running. [/fingers crossed]
    Hope this helps someone else!

  • Windows 8.1 PRO Deployment Start menu customisation

    Hi,
I am trying to customise my Windows 8.1 Pro deployment start menu, I just want to remove a pile of the default apps and items for users when they login, then they can customise it for themselves.
I know this can be done with enterprise but has anyone worked out a way to do it with PRO ??

Using the copyprofile function in the unattend file has worked perfectly for me. Win 8.1 has fixed issues I had with start screen customisations in the past. Add the copyprofile profile via WISM.
    - Login with your local user and customise start screen (uninstall default apps, re-arrange tiles.)
    - Sysprep your image. If your not using WDS to control your unattend files, call yours with a command similar to:
    sysprep /generalize /oobe /shutdown /unattend:C:\Windows\System32\Sysprep\imageunattend.xml
All subsequent users will see your changes and they will be able to make their own, unlike the group policy option available to Enterprise versions.

  • When I don't have the BROWSER menu option turned on, the WINDOW menu options are un-accessable by mouse

First of all, I would like to clarify which "menu" is un-accessable.
I'm referring to the menu that regardless of which program, a user can access by either clicking ALT + SPACE or by clicking the top left corner of the window. I'm NOT referring to the FIREFOX menu options, those I am fine with.
Normally, I can just move my mouse to the top left corner and double click to close a program. I used to be able to do that too with firefox 3.6. However, due to the new design, when I click the top left corner, I get the orange Firefox drop down menu. This is because firefox, due to the new update, no longer has an independent window bar that is the norm across most programs. The only way I can get this independent menu bar is to enable the browser menu bar. This however, adds two entire layers of bars, which defeats one of the purposes of the update, to give more viewing space
The Chrome browser also has the tab row on top, however, it doesn't have the issue I brought up. When I click the top left corner of the window, the regular WINDOW menu options pop up.
The reason why this is important to me is due to the fact that I use two monitors. Normally, I can just move my cursor to the top right and close the window without looking for my right hand side monitor, and then double click the top left hand side of my left hand side monitor to close the window. This is because with a 2 monitor set up, the "X" close button is located inconvinently in the middle of my two screens, forcing me to aim for the tiny small red rectangle, which is why I prefere to double click the top left corner; I don't have to aim.
I have long been a loyal user of firefox. Browsers like Chrome and others have been out ranking firefox for a long time, mozilla is only playing catch up here...
While I am glad for the update - better speed due to JaegerMonkey, the added hardware acceleration, the tab groups, and more, if the window menu problem is not resolved soon, this update is going to force me to switch browsers.
I look forward to a fix, or response on how to resolve this issue.
    Many thanks,
Still a firefox user... for now

it's possible but there is likely no need to do this. what exactly is wrong with your computer? a simple reinstall of snow leopard on top of your current system will cure many ills and will preserve your data and applications. and many problems can be solved without reinstalling at all.
but if you insist on doing a wipe and install boot from the SL install DVD and start disk utility from utilities menu at the top. erase your hard drive using the erase tab in disk utility. then quit disk utility and proceed with the install. and if you do reinstall I suggest you back up your data first. otherwise it will be completely wiped when you erase your hard drive. and you should always back up anyway.

  • Can not install windows 7 pro using boot camp as mouse and keyboard will not work Help please

I have a new iMac and trying to install Windows 7 Pro using boot camp. I have reached the stage of starting to load windows from the DVD then discovered the mouse and the keyboards not working so I could not interact with windows installation.

Open, if not so already, the Windows formatter. Identify the BC Windows partition. It will be the one listed with the proper size you created and/or will be labeled as a C: drive. Be careful you select the right one or you may be corrupting the entire drive.
    Format the partition as NTFS.

  • Windows 8.1 start up black screen no bios screen

This is my computer:Intel 13, gigabyte mother board, 8 gb ram 64 bit operating system, windows 8.1
I built this computer from scratch and I've had it for less than a year. However recently I have noticed that when i start up my computer, there is a black screen, there is no bios setup page and there is no manufacturing screen. Furthermore I have noticed
that when I start up my pc the lights on my keyboard and mouse are turning on and off. I have tried turning off the quick boot function and ive tried using a different screen and the same result happens. Please help me resolve this situation :(
    Cheers, Charlie

    so can login to windows?
no message appear during booting up?
if this is No Post issue, more to HW
there is many suggestion from internet about no post issue
    my tips:
    1. Check all the light indicator status, mainboard light, process light (HDD), try to open ODD tray (to check power)
    2. to isolate RAM or RAM slot issue, try to different RAM configuration and try different slot
    3. Check if there is beeping sound, most of beeping sound issue caused by RAM or graphic card
    4. Check your HDD at different PC to isolate HDD issue
    5. Check your keyboard and mouse at different PC
    6. I suggest do power drain, remove keyboard, mouse, video cable, power cable, LAN ect, press power button without any power. Put back keyboard and mouse(after make sure working fine with other machine), video cable and power cable only, don't put any other
3rd party device (LAN, printer, usb pen drive ect)
If still no POST issue, I suggest bring to service center for further TS

  • Windows won't start with Nano connected

My computer won't startup or restart with the nano connected to the USB port. It just hangs on the startup screen. I have to disconnect the nano and do a hard power off and then power up again then connect the nano after computer is started. Everything works OK then. Is this normal? I have the same (or similar) problem with an iPod Video 30GB, and have found a solution. It is not a boot order problem. I've just posted the following as feedback to http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93953
There is also another reason why a PC may not start with an iPod connected. It is also related to USB, but is a different problem, and there are different work-arounds available.
Problem: PC will not POST or boot with iPod connected to a USB port
    Description:
With an iPod connected to any USB port, the PC will not pass power-on self test (POST), and does not attempt to boot. It remains completely unresponsive to anything except a hard power-off; in particular it is impossible to reach the BIOS configuration screen. This is not a problem with the boot order: the internal disk is first in the boot order, and in any case, POST is not passed and so booting is not attempted.
With the iPod disconnected, the PC boots normally, and if the iPod is plugged in later, the iPod and iTunes function normally.
    Solution: either:
    1. Disable "USB legacy mouse support" and "USB keyboard and legacy support" in BIOS. Disabling legacy USB mouse support stops a USB mouse being used by BIOS and DOS programs, which is not usually a problem. Disabling "USB keyboard and legacy support" will prevent a USB keyboard from being used at all, which is a potentially serious problem.
    2. Boot with the iPod disconnected.
System details: a PC based on the ASUS A7N8X v2.0 motherboard running BIOS version 1008. It has a USB mouse, PS/2-compatible keyboard, and a USB-connected printer and scanner as well as the iPod.
    Comments:
This is not necessarily a bug with the iPod, but may be. There are three possibilities:
    1. There is a bug with the BIOS implementation of USB keyboard and mouse support
    2. There is a bug with the way the iPod responds when the BIOS is looking for USB keyboards and mice.
    3. There is a bug in the USB spec itself.

  • How to speed up Windows 7's reaction time to my mouse click

Hi.  We just got new computers at work.  They have approximately 4 gigs of RAM and have Window's 7 on them.  Prior to that we had abysmally old computers running Windows XP.  We have Microsoft Office 365 on them (Not sure how much
that matters) and it is connected to both an older server and SharePoint.
I'm positive that there isn't actually a problem with the computer or Windows 7 - it might be really basic harware, however it is brand new.  But everything lags.  Its extremely minor and no one else in the building notices it.  My co-workers
all say the entire system is faster in every possible way.  However, I get the same problemwith other computers in the building, at least four others.  It lags just slightly when I click on anything, anywhere (Left and Right click).  Letters
appear to lag behind my key presses, just enough for me to notice and no one else (I do wonder if this is caused by Microsoft Office, since it is so clunky).  I also think the mouse pointer moves slower than the pointers on XP.  Its difficult
to tell though since I no longer have the old computer to compare.
This lag did not exist with the old computers.  My clicks were instantaneously carried out and the appearance of the letters I pressed was immediate.  It might be very minor, but it is driving me insane.  I can't watch the screen when I type
because it makes me slightly nauseous.  And the click lag slows down my entire process.  I'm pretty sure it isn't actually a problem with Windows 7, I think the OS is just like this.  Is there a way to speed up the reaction time of the mouse
    click and keyboard button presses?
Thank you for the taking the time.

    1. Use performance monitor for analysis. Without knowing processes that influence response it is hard to give any reasonable advice.
    2. In my experience computers with integrated video card are generally slower. (One such example sits on my desk. It is based on D2700 processor and chipset. 4GB RAM, usable 3.23GB. )
    3. There are several tweek procedures that may increase the response. Start with Win+Pause/Break -> Advances System Settings -> Advance -> Performance -> Performance Options and look here for optimal, disable autotuning, sometimes QoS, prefer
IPv4 over IPv6 (if you still use IPv4, set bit 5), etc
    4. Perhaps Performance forum is better fit for your problem.

  • When opening iTunes I continue to get the same messages, 'The program can't start because AVFoundationCF.dll is missing' and 'iTunes was not installed correctly. Error 7 (Windows error 126)' I've uninstalled, reinstalled many times - nothing! help please.

When opening iTunes on my new Windows 7 PC I continue to get the same messages, 'The program can't start because AVFoundationCF.dll is missing' and 'iTunes was not installed correctly. Error 7 (Windows error 126)' I've uninstalled and reinstalled many times to no avail, even tried it on a different user account and still nothing. I recently installed Panda Internet Security 2012 (about 12 days ago), initially iTunes worked fine as usual but within the last few days I've been  unable to open it with the same messages appearing. I've read through some of these pages and tried everything that's been advised, uninstalling and reinstalling while internet and laptop security is swithched off, downloading tools to completely remove anything related to iTunes, tried it in Safe Mode, nothing has worked. I've also noticed that in the start menu when I click on iTunes, it says '(empty)' where it should have the logo and ability to start the program, does this mean it doesn't download + install properly each time I've tried? Any help would be enormously appreciated.

  • Using Firefox 5 in Windows 7, once I have Firefox open, I can no longer open a new window using the start button. How do I fix?

As I stated, I have Windows 7 on my laptop and have installed Firefox 5. I sometimes like to have multiple windows of the browser open. But, unlike any previous version of Firefox, now when I have the browser open, when I try to open a new window using the Start menu, it will not open one. I have to use Ctrl+N. Why did this change?
This may seem insignificant but it really hampers my work flow. For one, with other applications, Shift+N is what opens a new window. For two, I've been doing with with my browsers for years now and it's like second nature for me - having to remember that in Firefox it's Ctrl+N is a pain in my tuccus.
Firefox is my go to browser and I would like it to stay that way. Please find the solution for me! I have tried looking using Tools, Options, as well as looking at my start menu and taskbar options, and no dice.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

  • I have Firefox for U3 and lately it keeps trying to instal an update, which fails and a 2nd window tells me another copy of F'fox is running (which isn't) and when I close the window F'fox starts anyway, but all this takes a lot of time.

I have Firefox for U3 on my Verbatim stick to run on whatever computer I happen to be using. Lately every time I try to open F'fox a window comes up saying "Firefox is installing your updates and will start in a few moments." The status bar indicates the update is progressing, 'though a bit slowly, then suddenly it's done and the window disappears, only to be followed by another window coming up which says "The update could not be installed. Please make sure there are no other copies of Firefox running on you computer and then re-start Firefox to try again."
If I press the 'OK' button OR press the Close button, the window disappears, but then F'fox starts up all by itself anyway.
How can I stop this updating problem happening every time and on every computer I use.

    Try to disable hardware acceleration.
*Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
If disabling hardware acceleration works then check if there is an update available for your graphics display driver.
Try to toggle some Boolean gfx.font_rendering prefs on the about:config page to disable some features.
    Filter: gfx
    Some to try:
    * set gfx.direct2d.disabled to true to disable Direct2D
    * set gfx.font_rendering.directwrite.use_gdi_table_loading to false.
To open the <i>about:config</i> page, type <b>about:config</b> in the location (address) bar and press the "<i>Enter</i>" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.<br />
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.<br />
*Use the Filter bar at to top of the about:config page to locate a preference more easily.
*Preferences that have been modified show as bold (user set).
*Preferences can be reset to the default or changed via the right-click context menu.
