Windows authentication for SQL 2005 DB connect

Hi all,
I'm trying to create a DB connect
in the connection parameters when I mention a user name and password who is created as a SQL authentication then it is working fine.
but in my connection parameters if I mention a user name password who have a Windows authentication in the SQL 2005 which we are trying to connect then it gives an error. It is not connecting .
Can you please tell me how can we connect using a windows authentication.
Mey

Solution to solve the actual issue :
For the SAP system to use standard default NT authentication
Please refer to this link: http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/9c/d736b880c34f76b507bac7751a0474/content.htm
1.       Database login:
SQL Server login with System Administrator privileges, that is this login should be member of the sysadmin fixed server role on the target SQL Server. If such a login does not exist, you have to create it on the target SQL Server. The SAP multi-connect mechanism allows both integrated security logins and the use of SQL Server authentication. For security reasons, we highly recommend to use integrated security (Windows authentication). If you use Windows security, leave this field empty.
2.             Password / Re-enter password :
If you have decided to use integrated security, leave these fields empty. Otherwise enter the password of the SQL Server login.
The above pointer was used to solve the login issue but we still had issues in getting the schema visible in SAP BW. As the user ID was left blank we were not able to get the schema view for the <blank> user.
Note to be applied to solve the Schema issue :
note 1091929 : &#61664; Link
so now you can enter the schema to be used in DS creaton screen.

  • Windows authentication for SQL Server

We have a SQL server 2000 resource that we are provisioning to from IdM 7.1. The account to connect to Dev environment SQL server is set up for windows authentication. Lets say this account is Domain\user1. For development purposes, I am using my local machine (running tomcat 5.5) to connect to DEV environment and i logon to my machine as Domain\user2.
Using SQL Enterprise Manager, i can do a "run as" and ask it to connect to the Dev environment as 'Domain\user1' and it works fine.
Can i do something similar from IdM . I have tried putting in sqljdbc_auth.dll in the path and turning on the integrated security option in the connection string. However, as expected, it starts using 'Domain\user2' credential (even if I specify Domain\User1 credentials in the connection parameters).
I would like to be able to use an account other than the user who is logged into the machine to establish connection from IdM to SQL server using windows authentication. Any thoughts?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi All,
I am trying to create a data source in oracle console by connecting to SQl server 2008 database using windows authentication.I am able to connect to database using SQL Server Authentication, but
When i try to connect using Windows Authentication,I am getting errors.
Please help me in finding a solution.
    Thanks,

To connect to oracle you need to use login created in oracle database. there is no windows authentication in oracle. As Olaf said please post this question in Oracle forum or search web you will find answer

  • B1i (2005) installation failedSo far:  windows XP, MS-SQL 2005 express: ok

    Dear All,
I try to install B1i for NW 2005 on a SBO 2005B installation. I have installed all prerequisites like JDK, MSXML, Tomcat (no blanks in path). When running the setup program and after all information gathered, the connection to the MS-SQL 2005 database succeeds and the final installation step starts but returns the message:
"Initail database failed, make sure Tomcat or mini-http is shut down and please check your database's status and try again"
Looking into MS-SQL shows a database beeing created named localhost/B1i. Tomcat and mini-http are definately shut down. When starting Tomcat, it is accessible via http://localhost:8080.
    System Parameters:
    windows server 2003
    SBO 2005B
    java: 1.4.2.19
tomcat 5.5.27 including compat package for 1.4.2.19)
    sql jdbc 1.2.2828.100
    msxml 4.0 SP 2
I can not find an error in the system. Is there a way to diagnose what is happening and does anyone have an idea where the problem lies?
    Ciao, Mathias
    [Update]
I have tried JDBC 2.0.1008 and JDBC 2.0.1607 - both lead to a fatal error when trying to connect to the database. I assume this is due to Java JDK 1.4.2 as JDBC requires Java 5.0 (1.5.0)
Does anybody know if I can use JDK 1.5.0_17 instead of 1.4.2_19?
    [Update 2]
I have tried to install the B1i on two other servers with identical setup and it worked. However, this will not help me with this machine... On the other side, it shows, that there is nothing wrong with the procedure I am using
I found by the way: B1i works fine with MSSQL 2005 Express, it works with jdk 1.5.0.17 (and then JDBC 2.0)
    [Update 3]
    So far:
windows XP, MS-SQL 2005 express: ok
    windows XP, MS-SQL 2005 express, SBO2005A: ok
    windows 2003, MS-SQL 2005 SBO2005A: fail
    windows 2003, MS-SQL 2005 SBO2005B: fail
    windows 2003, MS-SQL 2005 SBO2007A: ok
    windows 2003, MS-SQL 2005 Netweaver 2004S: fail
Unfortunately the three servers where it fails are the ones I need to use for production
The precise error state is that the install routine creates the database in SQL 2005 and then reports that it can not create the database. Is there something I should check in SQL 2005?
Edited by: Mathias Wilhelm on Feb 11, 2009 5:17 PM

    Salut Eddy,
I tried it with tomcat 5.0.30 - no success. JDK is 1.4.2.19
I tried it with tomcat 5.5.27 - no success. JDK was 1.4.2.19 and 1.5.17
I checked the database: The structure is created but the tables are not created. As the user 'sa' has full admin rights it must be with the access path to the database that is wrong. What I do not understand is, why the installation routine is able to connect to the database to create B1i and then unable to create the tables. I checked in the log files of the db and found no error messages. I tested this as well by using a wrong password for sa or a wrong user. In both cases, the installation routine fails already when checing the existence of B1i database
    [Update]
    In the meantime:
    Checked permissions on database
Checked that administrator is member of local admin group
    Checked JAVA_HOME environment variable
Found collation SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS for working setup and SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CS_AS in failing setup
Checked all security settings by comparing to working setup
Checked event viewer and found no errors
Checked all log files and found no errors
Checked that sa can create tables manually in localhost\B1i

  • Trying to use Linked Servers in SQL 2005 to connect to RDB 7

I'm looking for detailed info on how to set up a linked server in SQL 2005 to connect to my Oracle RDB 7 database (running on VMS). I'm able to connect via odbc using VS.Net and Sql Server 2005 Reporting Services. I'm not sure if I need to use the ODP.NET or not. I have created a generic linked server, but it requires me to use the OpenQuery function to access the data, which is not giving me the functionality I'm looking for.

    Hi doanpq,
Please download and install OLE DB Provider for Visual FoxPro 9.0, which exposes OLE DB interfaces that you can use to access Visual FoxPro databases and tables from other programming languages and applications. Please see:
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=14839
Then, please follow up the following article to create a linked server:

  • Support for Windows Authentication in SQL Server Plug-in

I can't find anything in the documentation, or maybe my eyes are subconsciously skipping over the section. Does the 3.2.3.1.0 SQL Server plug-in support Windows Authentication? We have stopped using Mixed-Mode in our SQL Server 2005 Databases.

Not as such, but you can always manage them through worksheet statements.
You can request this at the SQL Developer Exchange though, so other users can vote and add weight for possible future implementation.

  • Data Modeler 2.0.0 Windows Authentication to SQL Server

Is there a way to sign onto a SQL Server database with Data Modeler similar to SQL Developer using Windows Authentication? I have loaded the correct JDBC drivers.

It wasn't possible for me (Win XP) but you can try using following steps:
    1) get JDBC driver from Microsoft site - http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-gb/data/aa937724.aspx - you can use 1.2 or 2.0
    2) copy sqljdbc_auth.dll to windows\system32 directory as described here http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms378428.aspx
    3) add JDBC driver as third party driver in General options (Data Modeler)
    4) add ;integratedSecurity=true to port information (or database) - my port looks "1779;integratedSecurity=true"
It doesn't work due strange incompatibility between the way we use connections and JDBC driver implementation related to usage of sqljdbc_auth.dll - may be it will work for you :). We have it fixed and fix will be included in next patch release.

  • Windows Authentication in SQL 2012 suddenly stopped working

    Hello,
I use SQL Server 2012 for a database class in college. I have been having zero problems until today, when I started up the Management Studio to work on a Project due in a week. We use Windows Authentication to just log in through our computers. Now it is
giving me an error saying the following when I try to log in with my usual credentials through Windows Authentication.
    TITLE: Connect to Server
    Cannot connect to ALEC-PC.
    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider:

    BUTTONS:
    OK
I am not trying to connect to a server, just my computer through Windows Authentication. This was not a problem until today, as I have used SQL Server on this computer before to complete previous projects. I have made no changes to my computer recently,
other than detach a database from SQL in order to send it to my professor. Then suddenly it will not connect to Database Engine, but it will connect to some of the other options under "Server Type".
Any help on this would be highly appreciated. I do apologize for not being very technical.

    1. Make sure SQL Server Service is running
    2. If a named instance, make sure SQL Server browser service is running
    3. Make sure SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections
    4. Examine the SQL Server error log for messages confirming that SQL is listening on the expected network interfaces and ports
    5. Test server connectivity with PING from the client machine
    6. Test port connectivity using TELNET or PowerShell to the server and port (from step 4) from the client machine.  For example
    a. TELNET <server-name> 1433
    b. PowerShell: 1433 | % { echo ((new-object Net.Sockets.TcpClient).Connect("YourServerName",$_)) "server listening on TCP port $_" }
    7. Check firewall settings if step 5 or 6 connectivity test fails

  • Xp_logininfo "Installation problem on windows 2003 with Sql 2005"

    Hi every one
I am facing a problem during the installation of Solution Manager 4.0 on Windows 2003 server with Ms Sql 2005, I received the following error
    Msg 15404, Level 16, State 19, Procedure xp_logininfo, Line 60.
Its some how look likes that the user "SID"ADM
Can any one give me a clue
    thanks
    Kind Regards
    Sohail

    Hi All,
    This would solve your problem
First of all this error is <b>MSSQL error</b>.
When you perform an action on an instance of SQL Server that requires SQL Server to resolve the credentials of a Microsoft Windows NT domain user account, you may receive an error message that is similar
    Server: Msg 8198, Level 16, State XX, Procedure <Stored Procedure Name>, Line <line Number>
Could not obtain information about Windows NT group/user '<Domain\Account Name>'.
To resolve the credentials of a Windows NT domain user account, SQL Server uses the xp_logininfo system stored procedure. Here is a list of the common scenarios where you may notice that the xp_logininfo system stored procedure fails and causes the 8198 error.
    • When you use an xp_sendmail extended stored procedure.
    • When you set up replication.
    • When you run a SQL Server Agent job.
SQL Server may run the xp_logininfo system stored procedure to retrieve information about the Windows domains and the user accounts, even if the user does not do so explicitly. Therefore, if you receive an 8198 error message and the error message mentions the xp_logininfo system stored procedure as the procedure, you must use <b>SQL Profiler</b> to trace and to troubleshoot the exact point of failure.

A domain account "Domain\Login" is administrator on both physcial nodes and "sysadmin" on both SQL Server instances.
Currently both instances are running on same node.
While logging on to SQL Server instance 2 thru "Domain\Login" using "IP2,port2", I get error 18452 "Login failed. The login is from an untrusted domain and cannot be used with Windows authentication". This happened in the past

  • Optimal Locations for SQL 2005 TempDB & ReportServerTempDB MDF & LDF Files

Hello.  I have SQL Server 2005 SP4 installed on Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard SP2.
The server has four CPU cores.  The server was configured with the following drive configuration.
    RAID 1 - System drive
RAID 5 - SQL MDF files
RAID 1 - SQL LDF files
There is currently one of each of the following files on the server.
The MDF files are on the RAID 5 array, while the LDF files are on the RAID1 array for SQL LDF files.
    TempDB.mdf
    ReportServerTempDB.mdf
    TempLog.ldf
    ReportServerTempDB_log.ldf
It is my understanding that having one TempDB per core is a best practice, so I should create three more TempDB’s.
Does that also apply to ReportServerTempDB?  Given the drive configuration of this server, where should all of the required MDF and LDF files for the TempDB’s and ReportServerTempDB’s be located?

You cannot create more than 1 tempb in any SQL Instance. The recommendations are to have additional tempdb *data files* depending on cores upto a max of 8. Obviously this depends on every environment. This recommendation is only for tempdb. It is not
for ReportServerTempDB’s. They are totally different and is not used similar to tempdb.
    http://www.sqlskills.com/blogs/paul/a-sql-server-dba-myth-a-day-1230-tempdb-should-always-have-one-data-file-per-processor-core/
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/cindygross/archive/2009/11/20/compilation-of-sql-server-tempdb-io-best-practices.aspx
Now, it is good to keep tempdb in its own drive, but because you dont have one specific, you can just put tempdb data files in data files drive and log file in log files drive.
You might want to consider moving them to a seperate disk if you see IO contention.

"Class path" applies to java. None of the above is java.
I dont know what to set my classpath with? You are running your java in "something". That "something" is an application. That "something" does not have the correct class path. You didn't tell us what it is so we can't help you with it.

  • Gathering physical memory for SQL 2005..SQL 2014

    Hi All,
I'm trying to write a query to gather physical memory across my SQL servers (from SQL 2005 to SQL 2012).
However, the sys.dm_os_sys_info DMV (the column for physical memory) is not the same after the switch to SQL 2012+.
    Here is the original query:
    SELECT
    @@SERVERNAME AS ServerName,
    CASE WHEN LEFT(CAST(serverproperty('productversion') as char), 1) = 9 THEN '2005'
    WHEN LEFT(CAST(serverproperty('productversion') as char), 4) = 10.0 THEN '2008'
    WHEN LEFT(CAST(serverproperty('productversion') as char), 4) = 10.5 THEN '2008R2'
    WHEN LEFT(CAST(serverproperty('productversion') as char), 2) = 11 THEN '2012'
    END AS MajorVersion,
    SERVERPROPERTY ('productlevel') AS MinorVersion,
    SERVERPROPERTY('productversion') AS FullVersion,
    SERVERPROPERTY ('edition') AS Edition,
    SERVERPROPERTY('collation') as Collation,
    cpu_count as CpuCount,
    physical_memory_in_bytes/1024/1024 as PhysMemMB
    FROM [sys].[dm_os_sys_info]
If I run that on SQL 2014, it fails because 'physical_memory_in_bytes' is now called 'physical_memory_kb'
I tried to do an IF..THEN..ELSE:
IF (cast(serverproperty('productversion') as char) like '11.%')
Then change the query accordingly but it would fail because i guess when it tried to parse the whole code, one of the T-SQL variations would have a column that did not exist in that particular version of SQL Server.
Is there a way I can get physical memory across SQL 2005..SQL 2012 or rewrite the T-SQL above to be able to run on both?
    Thanks in advance

Oh it seemed like you are asking SQL Server memory. the name for physical memory column ha changed only in SQL Server 2012. I wrote below script  just first run select SERVERPROPERTY('ResourceVersion')  to get exact resource database version of
SQL Server 2012 and then replace it in below script
    IF cast ( SERVERPROPERTY('ResourceVersion') as char (10) )= '11.00.2000'--2012 resource database version
    select (physical_memory_kb/1024)as Physical_mem_MB from sys.dm_os_sys_info
    else
    select (physical_memory_in_bytes/1024/1024) as physical_mem_MB from sys.dm_os_sys_info
    Edit: A more optimized query
If cast (LEFT( CAST(SERVERPROPERTY('ResourceVersion') AS VARCHAR(20)),2) as INT) in ('11','12')
    select (physical_memory_KB/1024) as Physical_Mem_MB from sys.dm_os_sys_info
    --else it uses for 2005-08R2
    else select (physical_memory_in_bytes/1024/1024) as Physical_Mem_MB from sys.dm_os_sys_info
