Windows File CS Content Crawler - Permission Issues

Hi,
Having a strange problem with a Windows File CS Content Crawler.
We have setup a shared directory on a server (on the same subnet/network as the portal server) where users drop their files (Word, PDF, Excel etc).
We have a Content Crawler job that crawls the files into Knowledge Directory, we then display the documents in a portal on one of our communities.
When an administrator level user clicks on the document link in the portal, the document is opened correctly i.e. you get a prompt to open or save. When a normal non-admin user clicks on the document link they receive the following error:
Error - Gateway was not able to access requested content. If the error persists, contact your portal administrator.
When I reviewed PTSpy I found the following message:
"user xxxxx does not have access to object id=232......."
Anyone experienced the above and know how they resolved this?
Thanks in advance,
Tahir

This is a permission problem, most likely on the data source that the crawler is using. Open the data source you used to create the crawler and see if its ID is 232. If it is, then you need to add whatever users/groups that should have access to the documents to the security ACL for the data source object. That will fix the problem.
Does the error also say what class id the object is? That would let you determine exactly which object is causing the problem if it is not the data source.

  • Windows File CS Content Crawler - How to change crawl method?

    Hi,
I have encountered an odd issue. I am using a Windows File CS Content Crawler to pull in some PDF files from a remote folder.
However I noticed the Windows File CS Content Crawler is crawling in the document title rather than the actual PDF filename.
I have checked the admin screens and I cannot find any way to tell my Windows File CS Content Crawler portlet to grab filenames and use these as the file display name when crawled in.
The business clients do not use the document title and meta features and will not use them in the future so the way the current Windows File CS Content Crawler portlet crawls documents into the portal will not work as most will not have a document title or will have some default internal name.
For example the PDF documents I am crawling in have Document Title's that have no relevance to the document filename.
We are only interested in the filename and not the document title (however we may use the field in the future for meta information). Apart from doing some development work to make a custom crawler is there any other way to change the behaviour of the Windows File CS Content Crawler.
I had to go into each document property in portal and modify the name field to the correct filename as it was using the value found in the Document Title field (incorrect).
This seems wrong to me, I can understand using the meta data information contained in files to do the crawling and make searching better however how do you do this with a PDF file that you cannot search against inside portal anyway?!

You can acomplish by changing the Global Document Property Map.
I don't have the specific screen in front of me so this is from memory.
Change the Name property to File name
Change the Title property to File name
You might have to experiment a bit with some test documents.

  • Need to view Windows files & online content on my iMac

I've tried DL'ing the thing several times, but nothing works.

    Huh?
You're got to be more specific. Tell us what the issue is, and what this "thing" you tried downloading is.

  • File Share crawl - NetApp Servers - Permission Issues

    hello,
There are many file share contents hosted on NetApp, which are being crawled by the SharePoint 2013 Search engine in our organization.
The Search Crawl account is granted Read and Execute permissions on the Shared Drive. The crawler reads the content and the permissions correctly for the first time.
But once the permissions are modified, like adding new users or removing the existing users, and after triggering a full crawl, the changes w.r.t permissions are not being reflected on the sharepoint search results. However, the same scenario works fine
on a local windows shared drive.
I have learnt that the crawl account should be a part of the group policy Manage Audting and permissions, but also learnt that NetApp doesnt have such a thing.  I hope am not the only one with such an issue. Please suggest.

    Hi Sreeharsha,
As I understand, you are using NetApp for file share, and you would like to know about permission needed for crawl files.
Since the issue is related to third party product, there is no sufficient resource here. Please contact their support engineer. For your convenience:

  • Weird file renaming permission issues

    Hi!
We have a file rename permission issue. Here is the background:
We created a 2008 R2 DFS namespace called UserData with Read/write share permissions for Administrators, Everyone and System. UserData has been granted NTFS permissions as follows:
Everyone (This folder only): Traverse folder / Execute files, List folder / Read data, Read attributes, Create folders / Append data
CREATOR OWNER (Subfolders and files only): Full control
SYSTEM (This folder, subfolders and files): Full control
Domain Admins (This folder, subfolders and files)
We then enabled folder redirection for users My documents folder through GPO, setting the following:
Setting: Basic - Redirect everyones folder to the same location
Target folder: Create a folder for each user under the root path
    \\domain\UserData
We also unchecked Grant the user exlusive rights to documents.
So, now to the really weird behaviour. We logged on to a Windows 7 (x64) client computer with a user who gets this GPO settings and that is not local administrator on the client. The folder is redirected as expected and we can create, delete and write to
files in anyway we want. We can also rename files if we choose an entirely different name and if we choose a longer or a shorter file name,
but we cannot rename the file to something with the same letters but different casing.
    Examples of what will work:
    "test" to "testing"
    "test" to "cool"
    "test" to "COOL"
Examples of what will NOT work:
    "test" to "Test"
    "test" to "tesT"
    "test" to "TEST"
We the get this error: "File Access Denied. You need permission to perform this action. You require permission from S-1-5-21-220..... to make changes to this file."
Eventhough I'm pretty sure the share and NTFS permissions of the share are correctly set we have of course checked all the permissions when logged in and the user has Full NTFS control and Read/Write Share permissions.
We have encountered the same problem on a customer company as well, with a different domain with no links to our domain what so ever. I have also seen similar problems from other people when trying to find the answer on internet. Here is an example:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7itprosecurity/thread/35ced5bb-ab13-4e28-8c48-7c68ce0b775c
    Anyone have any thoughts?
    /Leyan

    Resent discoveries:
If I log onto a Windows 7 (x86) Enterprise I face the same Issues.
If the same user logs on to one of the DFS servers holding the namespace and accesses his folder we experience
    no problems renaming files.
Customer company states that all is working fine when user logs on to a Windows XP with SP3.

  • Windows file sharing issues with Leopard

One of my clients has a Mac Mini server running Leopard with all updates installed. He has 2 Windows PCs in his office (1 XP and 1 Vista) and 1 MacBook Air running Leopard.
I created two folders in /Users/Shared and created a new full (standard) user account (SMB doesn't seem to like "share only" accounts). I turned off the OS X Firewall and set the two folders to be read/write shares for the new account I created. I turned on SMB sharing in Options.
On the Windows XP machine, I can read/write to the Mac Mini's shared folders just fine, however I cannot delete files for some reason. I always get an error saying the file is locked or I don't have permission to erase it. I tried moving the share folder to different locations, thinking it was a parent folder permission issue. No dice. It doesn't seem to matter who creates the file, I cannot delete it from the Windows computer. I can delete it fine from any Mac in the office.
    Any ideas?

The default behavior for the /Users/Shared folder is that you can only delete files you put in the Shared folder - this is called the "sticky bit." ie: User A saves/moves a file into Shared, User B can read/write that file but cannot delete it, User A can read/write and delete. The sticky bit can be set via Terminal.

  • File permission issues

I cannot access any printer plug-ins by going the HD>Library>Printer>Epson>Inkjet route. All the plug-ins are grayed out so I cannot load them. I am attempting to add a printer attached to a windows machine. I followed all the instructions, I can see the correct plug-in, but I cannot load the plug-in.
The second permission issue is moving jpeg files to the DVD or to a windows machine on the network. I am the owner of the files and all the folders are marked read and write. I also have checked windows file sharing.
I have also done the repair permission route.
I am new to Macs, so this is probably a simple ix, it just does not show up in the searches I have made in the Help menu or support topics. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Thanks for the tip, but I have tried every known fix listed anywhere and still am missing something somewhere. I can access the correct drivers when I connect the epson directly to the laptop and it will work. I can almost access the print drivers if I use IP Print when connecting to the printer across the workgroup. Almost, in that the drivers are no longer grayed-out, but if I select them, I still get generic print driver and it ignores the Epson driver. For some reason, if I try to install the driver for the printer while it is attached to a PC on the windows nworkgroup, using windows print, the print utility will not allow me to use the print driver. It has got to be something silly that I am missing.

  • Windows File Properties vs. Content Services Properties

    Hi.
On behalf of a customer I am evaluating Windows file properties vs. CS file properties.
Client Environment: Windows XP SP2, O-Drive.
Rightclick a File stored on O (O-Drive, Content Services).
a Props. Dialog shows up, the first tab is General*. It shows several file
    properties among others the following:
    - Last Access Date: This always shows Wed. 1 Jan 1986 00:00:00
Does this correspond to any content services file property? If so, why
is it always 1-jan-1986 00:00.00 and does not change? Is it a bug?
    - Checkboxes Write protected* / Archive* / Hidden*
Do these correspond to any cs file property? Do these have any effect?
(I tried write protected, but it did not work as expected, I was able
to overwrite the file) Bug or Feature?
If these checkboxes do not work, could these be disabled through O-Drive,
    otherwise users might get confused...
    Regards, Tom

I translated the german labels - sorry)

Hi. Sure, here's some collateral information:
We are evaluating Content Services for several customer projects.
During a presentation I held 2 weeks ago a customer asked exactly
those questions and I had to admit I could not answer.
So I retried on our test instance and checked the docu and still
could not get a clue how windows attributes and cs attributes correspond.
Then I asked MJS during last weeks workshop he did not know exactly either.
Hence I am asking on the forum.

  • Windows File Crawling - change of folder names in KD?

I setup a Windows File crawler and have it set to mirror the folder structure of the imported path.
However, I would like to slightly change some of the folder names in the KD and leave them the same on the actual share drive.
In my attempts to do this the crawler keeps reverting the filenames back to the way they are on the share drive.
Is there any setting that I can change that might allow me to do this?
I assume its a lost cause, but figured I'd check anyway.
    Thanks for any help!

    You're correct. It's a lost cause.

  • Change windows file permission from Oracle PL/SQL

    Hi
I am using APEX4.2 to produce a graph ( by AnyChart) and used the simple pop up windows to save the graph to a PNG image file called test.png in the windows location ( being X:\APEX_CHART where X is pointing to windows server /abc/Transfer/APEX_CHART/ ).
Now I wanted to be able to change the permission of this windows file to be private to one group and not available to other public users.   Can I achieve this via API from Oracle PL/SQL ?
    Thanks

That doesn't look like a Windows path. Do you mean \\abc\Transfer\APEX_CHART?

Is the database on the same server as \\abc\Transfer\APEX_CHART?

  • Issues with Mac OS X Server 10.4.8 and Windows File sharing

We are having lots of issues with our SMB share on Mac OS X Server 10.4.8. The main issues are the following:
    - Group ACLs seem to not work properly, and I have had to add dozens of manual permissions on a per-user basis
    - Often, users open a file in read-only mode, without any reason, and can't modify it
    - Often, users open a file with full write access, but then cannot save it and have to use a "save as function".
After having looked all over the Internet and on the Apple's discussions forum, it seems like this issue has been around for quite some time now:
    http://discussions.apple.com/search.jspa?forumID=702&threadID=&q=smbANDpermissions&objID=f702&dateRange=thisyear&userID=&numResults=15&rankBy=10001
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1546867&#1546867
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=647251
And no real answer/solution has been provided by Apple yet.
I also looked on Samba related pages, and it seems like these issues were Samba related (both ACL/OpenLDAP and Microsoft Office file handling issues), and the current version of Samba (3.0.23c) seem to have solved lots of issues in these areas:
    http://us1.samba.org/samba/history/samba-3.0.23c.html
Apple ships Samba 3.0.10 (16 Dec 2004) with 10.4.8, which makes the shipping version at list 15 versions (and 18 months) behind the current Samba release (30 Aug 2006).
People within the company are obviously quite unhappy with the situation and beyond me looking like a fool for migrating from Windows Server to OS X, I now need to find a solution to the issues.
I would like to know what is the official and Apple recommended way to solve this issue.
    Kind regards,
    Pejvan
It seems like Apple is totally ignoring the issues, users are facing with SMB shares, while their emphasize as a selling point how OS X Server is a great "windows file" server.

    Hiya
    Thanks for the reply.
    >Is there a UPS involved?
I wish there had been. I might not be having to deal with it now! :-)
    >If you boot from the Install Disc & use System Profiler there, does the Same RAM situation? Did you physically >check those slots? Thinking maybe the OS is kicking them out on bootup?
I've had the following suggested to me on another forum - "My guess on the RAM error is this. You have a processor that wants the RAM to be dual channeled and since it reads both A slot are populated it wants both B slots to be populated. Remove A2 and put it in B1"
But unless it is degrading performance I'll probably just leave it.
    > Still can't get it to boot from the Clone holding the Option/alt key at bootup?
I can get it to boot from the Clone using the option key but it's a pretty random event. I can try for ages and then suddenly it'll work. Or it may work first time. It does seems to work more easily after a PRAM zap. The funny thing is that once it is booted up it will re-start in any way I want it to (the boot volume, the clone, a disk, single user mode etc). It is just hard to boot from a full shutdown.
I'm thinking that if I ca get the start-up issue fixed then I can fix the RAID issue at my leisure and even add the hard-drive that the clone is currently on to the RAID array.
    Thanks again.

  • Issue with G4 connecting to a Windows File Share

We have a single MAC G4 that our marketing department uses for graphic development. when we first setup the PC we were able to connect to our Windows shares on the network. For better than a year now we have had intermittent problems with connecting to our Windows file share. It would drop the TCP connection to the file share, you would need to go back a re-authenicate to the share. Two weeks ago the problem worsened, we can't connect the to Windows files share at all now. I have tried different users accounts including my own which has domain admin authority. However I have a samba file share and a snap server running on the network and I am able to connect to these machines with no issues. I suspect a configuration problem, but not sure where to look next.
The MAC is running the following OS version and Kernel
    OS 10.3.9 (7W98)
    Kernel Darwin 7.9.0
    Any guidance would be appreciated

I just figured it out myself.

  • ITunes 11.1 - two user accounts - permission issues for content

I downloaded iTunes 11.1 on my new iMac last night when it was released.
I have two user accounts set up. 1 for my wife, and the other for me. We have a shared iTunes account that has all of our music that we purchased from apple. I did the same set up for the iPhoto library. The way I implemented it allows both my wife and I read/write access to our content.
    The issue:
When I downloaded iTunes 11.1 I could not longer launch iTunes and it generated an error on Start up. The folder "iTunes" is on a locked disk or you do not have write permissions of this folder. The user priveleges were fine. No changes needed to be made there. After spending countless hours trying to figure it out, I went into my TimeMachine and restored to a backup from earlier in that day. I am now running iTunes 11.0.5 and I won't make the mistake again of upgrading to 11.1 until this is resolved.
Be advised if you have multiple users all pointed to a shared directory that this issue may impact you as well.
    Resolution:
If you want iOS7, then download it from your device itself. From your iPhone, iPad, etc etc, Go into Settings>General>Software Updates and download iOS7 from there. iTunes radio won't be available on my iMac, but so what, at least I can access my content now.

    Just ignore it.
In most of those, it says "should be drwxr-xr-x ; they are -rwxr-xr-x" - the important part, the actual "permissions" is everything except the initial "d" - and the only difference I see is the initial "d" is missing in the "they are" part.
The "d" stands for "directory" which on a Mac we usually call a folder. For some reason, there's some confusion about whether these should be folders or not - but  the actual permissionss (read, write, or eXecute - the 'r" "w" and "x"s) are all correct.
My guess is that Apple changed the way they create ".nib" files, and Disk Utility hasn't been updated yet to recognize the change. So the problem is in Disk Utility, not in iTunes.

  • Windows File System Issue

I have a system built using Oracle text that worked fine until we moved some content to a Windows file server. The old system used a Unix system with a samba server sharing out networked files. This system is still available and the content indexes are fine. The new system, which uses shared Windows drives, just won't generate any indexes. The Windows box has wide open security - everyone has full access. The file links in my database work - I can select them and cut and paste them into explorer to open them. The code I use to create the indexes is exactly the same for both the Unix server and the Windows server, but it just doesn't index the Windows content.
    Any thoughts?

Try starting the local database service as the local administrator user, as the default internal windows account has no rights to access a network drive.
