Windows Photo Gallery Warning - Not enough memory

I am currently going through holiday pictures and deleting a fair few. I have folders that consist of around 1500 pictures, which includes both jpegs and NEFs. When I view these I have no problem for the first say 50 or even 100 at times. Eventually it gets to a state where pretty much every second picture reveals the following warning:
'This photo can't be displayed. You might not have enough memory available. Close some programs or if your hard disk is almost full, free some disk space and try again.'
The odd thing is that if I go back to a previous picture and then to the one that hadn't worked, it works most of the time. If not, I keep clicking left and right and eventually it works again. I only bought the laptop today, so the space isn't the issue. It's got 8GB of RAM too, so I should be fine.
My model is: HP 15-G092SA
I am thinking it could have to do with the limited 2MB cache that the graphics card has. Could that be the problem? If so, how do I solve it. Google doesn't seem to reveal many answers.
Thanks to anyone that tries to help in advance.

Hello Yasumy, welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you're having an issue with Windows photo gallery warning you of not enough memory to view your pictures. I will try to assist you with this.
"I am thinking it could have to do with the limited 2MB cache that the graphics card has" - This is very valid, as you mention loading 50 - 100 photo's a time, there could just be too much data on the page to be processed at that time.
A few suggestions that may help:
view a smaller number of files
Separate file types into their own folder
Create additional sub folders with catagories. (1 folder with 1500 images is a lot of data to load at once)
A few questions:
Are you loading these to view off the notebook directly or are you loading the from another source? (Flash drive, SD card, Sky drive etc.)
What's the operating system running on the notebook?
Thank you for posting on the HP Forums.

  • Illustrator 5.1 on windows 8 'previewing' error - not enough memory

Just got a brand new computer with 8GB RAM. Illustrator kept giving me the same error message after a couple of minutes working on the files.
"can't finish previewing. there isn't enough memory. ID = -108"
It then reverts to a low quality preview of the illustrator file.
Im working on a 4MB file - nothing unusually large. Never had this problem before - even on my older, slower Intel i2,4GBRAM laptop .
I've checked updates for the program, and it seems that all is updated and installed.
    please help!

Run AI in compatibility mode for Win 7 or Win XP even. That's a known problem with CS5 on soem Win 8 systems.

  • Warning: "not enough memory to create shadow map vertice"

    Hi,
First of all I am not too technically minded and not a great expert at after effects so keep this in mind when answering
I will post as much info to give a comprehensive idea of my setup and issue.
What I am basically asking is if I have after effects setup correctly for the spec I am running to achieve maximum benefit and performance?
And Is this perhaps a project composition error?
I have an after effects project that fails about 2.5 hours into rendering with this warning:
Now just a bit of background. I had 4gb and have upgraded to 8gb. The reason I upgraded was due to this error however I still have same issue (to be honest I dont see any improvement with ram previews etc).
This is my current PC spec:
I have changed virtual memory to double the RAM which I believe is what is recommended?
Now this is what after effects looks like on start up: Should it not utalise the 8gb?
When rendering it also just says using 4gb also:
Here are my multi processing and memory settings:
I hope this is detailed enough for someone to troubleshoot and help me out.
    Kind Regards,
    jmcall10

CS4 is 32bit. It will never use more than 4GB. Basic computer math. Simply consider turning off MP rendering to free up more RAM for the primary render instance. Shadow map size defaults to "comp size", but of course you may be able to reduce it. Check the advanced comp settings. Beyond that simply render to an image sequence so you can resume from the point of the crash/ hang without losing all your rendered stuff, then assemble the iamges to a clip file in a second pass.

  • Does the "Warning! Not Enough Memory" bug still exist in Logic 8?

    Hello everyone,
I'm wondering if the dreaded "warning, not enough memory" bug still exists in Logic 8. Here is a detailed account of the bug from Logic 7: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=767597&#767597
If this is fixed, I'm seriously considering upgrading mid-project! The film score I'm working on has many doubling parts that I'd like to edit at the same time in the matrix editor. However, editing multiple parts in the matrix editor seems provoke the little bugger, and I've already been bitten a few times in this project already. The only solution I've found is to stay clear of editing multiple parts at once (i.e. edit each parts individually, which obviously takes more time) or save before editing and hope I dont get bit.
I would LOVE to hear a report that this bug has been exterminated, and perhaps may upgrade mid project if thats the case.
Thanks in advance for your reply!

    Heya,
I'm not familiar with the bug you're talking about. But would, as a fellow film composer, strongly urge you against the mid project switch.
I loaded in LP8 and ofcourse had a look at what it was all about, and it's really really fantastic. It also seems very stable. I fortunately have a side project that I am working on so switched to LP8 for that. Whilst I'm thankful to get my head around a very new approach for logic, I'm also thankful that I have this side project as it has illuminated a multitude of problems that exist with LP8 that would make any scoring process a bit of a headache to say the least. The main one being that if you don't have a very very powerful mac (I'm prepping a really fully loaded 8 core) you are not going to get anywhere near the performance out of Logic as you do with 7. This is a bottom up overhaul and it needs hardware to match. Heck even my 30" cinema display seems cramped and insubstantial on this new version. I would be so bold to say hold off until you have a hearty new mac and at least 8.2 is released IMHO but maybe try and get on it onto a smaller project to familiarize yourself before hand.

  • Not enough memory to print this document

    Hello all,
I am trying to print tax forms, something I have done for years with no problem. I used a popular tax program to create a PDF file, copied this file to my G3/266 running Mac OS 9.1, and opened it using Acrobat Reader 4.0. Several pages show X's in boxes where the characters should be. I assume this is a font problem with Acrobat Reader 4.0, so I opened the file using Acrobat Reader 5.0, and all pages are rendered properly.
Once I tried to print, I remembered why I have been using Acrobat Reader 4.0: I've never been able to print from version 5.0. When printing from version 5.0, it spools to disk for background printing, then gives a warning: "Not enough memory to print this document". I tried printing the first page of Acrobat Reader's help pages - same problem. Here's a list of what I've tried:
      Background printing on & off
Acrobat Memory: 12,288 KB (Suggested), 24 MB, 128 MB
Print Monitor: 16,384 KB, 128 MB
    Always the same error.
My G3/266 has 768 MB of RAM
The printer is a LaserWriter Select, which is why I use Mac OS 9.1 to print.
Any ideas how to fix the font problem so I can print form Acrobat Reader 4.0 or how to make Acrobat Reader 5.0 print properly?

    Hello Robert,
    Thanks for the reply.
In Mac OS 9, the minimum and preferred memory allocation limits may be set by the user. By selecting the application's icon and selecting "Get Info", a panel provides these fields. The application always shows a suggested memory size. Acrobat Reader 5.0 has a suggested memory size of 12,288 KB, I tried raising it to 24 MB, then again to 128 MB. My computer has 768 MB of RAM.
I used TurboTax 2012 running under Mac OS 10.6.8 to create the PDF file by selecting the "Print Returns to Mail" button. It pulls up a system print window with the PDF button, from which I select the "Save as PDF..." option. On my Mac OS 10.6.8 system, the only printer listed in this window is the "Photosmart C4700 series [B6D0EB]", but this has always been the case, and is what I have always used to print.
I have opened the PDF file, created as described, using Preview, and used "Save As..." to save a new copy, using the "Black & White" Quartz filter, since this version of TurboTax wants to use colored tax forms. This should give me a PDF that is entirely created by Mac OS 10.6.8. I have also opened that PDF file again, and done a "Save As...", using the "Create Generic PDFX-3 Document" Quartz filter. I get the same errors when I try to print either PDF file.

  • Transfering Windows Photo Gallery tags to iPhoto

Hi there everyone! I just bought a macbook . I transferred my pictures from my Vista desktop to my new macbook using an external HD. However, the tags from Windows Photo Gallery did not transfer over as keywords into iPhoto . The weird thing is some tags did transfer on a couple of pictures (around 10). Does anybody know any solutions to this?

    SecretPact:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions and in from the Darkside. . If the keywords are written into the IPTC fields in each photo then iPhoto can read them. But they have to be embedded into each file by Windows Photo Gallery. If you can go back to WPG and see if there's an option to write the metadata to the files and do it, you can reimport them and hopefully get the keywords to import. Try it on one or two photo that did not show the keywords first.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • "Not Enough Memory to Complete this Operation" Error using notifiers in LabVIEW

I get the (windows?) error message "Not Enough Memory to Complete this Operation" when using notifiers to send a flattened byte string as a response from one VI back to my calling VI. I do get my data and everything works out perfectly between the two VIs, but I do get this annoying error message that requires a user interface action. Why?

Well, I'm thinking you may have stumbled across a LV issue.  I can get it to crash a lot faster than that when I clear your plot history in the top chart.  It definitely seems as though LV has a huge memory leak on charts having their history cleared.  With your 500,000 data point history, I lose about 170MB of memory every time I clear the chart history.
When I run your VI, the first time you plot data, I see a 170MB jump in memory, which I am assuming is the chart allocating its chart buffer.  But, then I continue to see more memory being used as more data is collected (if you don't use your default 1 sample a sec rate, you can see this happen much faster - I am using 5k sample rate and 5k samples).  Eventually, even without clearing the chart history, this will cause the system to crash.
I did a quick test and dumped the waveform and just used doubles and plotted that.  Memory usage is drastically better, as I see no memory leak during standard acquisition (I still see the memory leak when the chart is cleared however).
You may have to rewrite to not use the waveform and signal for your chart and just use DBLs.

  • Not enough memory on startup disk to run applications with more than 200Gb free!!

I have a MacBook Pro final 2011 with 8 GB RAM and 500 GB disk with Mountain Lion OS X 10.8.5 and I'm using only 56% of my disk (over 276.5 GB). • When I try to import, I receive the following message: "An internal error has occurred: not enough memory".  I always download my photos onto an external hard drive.

Yesterday,I downloaded an update for Lightroom 5.  Now when I try to import, I receive the following message: "An internal error has occurred: not enough memory".  The message comes up right after I click import, before I choose a file to upload. Here is the information I can think of that might be needed to answer this question:
    - I always download my photos onto an external hard drive. It is about 10 % full.
    - It says I have Lightroom 5.6  64 bit
    - I am working from a newer laptop (Windows).  The internal drive on the laptop has 289 gb and I am using 61 gb total memory.
    - I have edited 2794 photos in Lightroom and it is all in one catalog.
    - I did not have this problem until I made the update.  I did have my first "bug" earlier this week when one of my photos had a line show up through the middle of it when I exported it. I was able to export it a second time without the line.
If there is more info. needed, let me know.  I do photography as a hobby and know enough about Lightroom to edit out blemishes and adjust color balance, but not too much more, so forgive my ignorance if this is an obvious fix.
    Sincerely,
    Adrianne

Not Enough Memory typically refers to RAM.  How much RAM do you have on your 64-bit OS computer?  Do you have other programs running that may be using most of the memory?

  • Issue with turning on project 2010 / 2013 - "There is not enough memory to complete the operation. To free up available memory, close programs, projects, or windows you aren't using, and then try again."

I get the following error after the installation and configuration window of MS Project: "There is not enough memory to complete the operation. To free up available memory, close programs, projects, or windows you aren't using, and then try again."
It happens both with MS Project 2010 and 2013 on a Windows 7 desktop.
I tried installing / uninstalling Office 2010, MS Project, tried installing 32 and then 64 bit versions, clean up, disk error checker, startup changes (msconfig), anti virus, running as Windows 7 and then Windows XP compatible mode.
Nothing helps. I see this issue reported as early as 2007 version of MS projects on Microsoft forums, but I do not see any solution anywhere. Any suggestions on how to fix the issue without having to reformat hard drive? Every other application, including
all other Office programs work seamlessly.
I also tried Microsoft support, after an hour and a half of basically doing what I did before, I was told I have to pay 99$ for "premium" support, so someone can look at this bug.
I have 16 Gb RAM and more than 200Gb or hard drive free, so actual memory is not the problem.

This issue was originally reported with MS Project 2007 and keeps popping up since.
A quick Google search provides more than 200K pages of results of this issue:
    https://www.google.ca/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=There+is+not+enough+memory+to+complete+the+operation.+To+free+up+available+memory%2C+close+programs%2C+projects%2C+or+windows+you+aren't+using%2C+and+then+try+again.
    And 193K results on Bing:
    http://www.bing.com/search?q=There+is+not+enough+memory+to+complete+the+operation.+To+free+up+available+memory%2C+close+programs%2C+projects%2C+or+windows+you+aren%27t+using%2C+and+then+try+again.&go=Submit&qs=n&form=QBLH&pq=there+is+not+enough+memory+to+complete+the+operation.+to+free+up+available+memory%2C+close+programs%2C+projects%2C+or+windows+you+aren%27t+using%2C+and+then+try+again.&sc=0-0&sp=-1&sk=&cvid=4cb023c1fbd94ec2bba9821b095f21f2
Computer was defragged already. I run more tests, and specifically when MS Projects tries to run, it tries to take all memory, more than 300Gb, on the computer. (DropBox was running at the same time, and warned that there were no space. As soon as MS Project
stopped attempting to configure itself, everything came back to normal and the available space became available again.)
Looking through older forum posts, looks like this application tries to take "unlimited" amount of memory. Some registry fixes are mentioned potentially, but I was not able to apply them.
Since everything else works, this is a MS Project bug reported by multiple users on various versions of Windows, including Vista and 7, so please provide a fix and not 'not a know bug' lie. All the premium support will say, is to format the hard drive, unless
they have a patch or a registry edit solution. If the latter is true, since the issue exists for multiple years, it should have been already been provided to users.
Also, I am not running a SQL server, or any server, this is an installation on a local machine.

Even though you have 16gb of ram installed, 32 bit Windows can only use 4gb of it so 12gb is wasted.  This is the reason you are getting not enough memory errors and is a known problem with Lightroom an 32 bit Windows during export.   You need to change to 64 bit Windows.

  • How can I get all photos from iPhoto to automatically back up to iCloud from my Mac OSX Version 10.6.8 operating system.  Not enough memory to upgrade.

How can I get all photos from iPhoto to automatically back up to iCloud from my Mac OSX Version 10.6.8 operating system.  Not enough memory to upgrade.

You can't.  iCloud is not for general file backup from a Mac. It's for backup up and syncing data between mobile devices and and Macs and  The following is from this Apple document: iCloud: Backup and restore overview.
iCloud automatically backs up the most important data on your (mobile) device using iOS 5 or later. Once you have enabled Backup on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch .....
    What is backed up
You get unlimited free storage for:
Purchased music, movies, TV shows, apps, and books
Notes: Backup of purchased music is not available in all countries. Backups of purchased movies and TV shows are U.S. only. Previous purchases may not be restored if they are no longer in the iTunes Store, App Store, or iBookstore.
Some previously purchased movies may not be available in iTunes in the Cloud. These movies will indicate that they are not available in iTunes in the Cloud on their product details page in the iTunes Store. Previous purchases may be unavailable if they have been refunded or are no longer available in the iTunes Store, App Store, or iBookstore.
You get 5 GB of free iCloud storage for:
Photos and videos in the Camera Roll
Device settings (for example: Phone Favorites, Wallpaper, and Mail, Contacts, Calendar accounts)
    App data
    Home screen and app organization
    Messages (iMessage, SMS, and MMS)
    Ringtones
    Visual Voicemails
But not from a Mac.  If you want to backup your photos and other important files I suggest you get an external hard drive and use  it with Time Machine.

how do i allocate more memory from my hd to my iphoto application? i have over 80 gb on my hard drive, but only 1.7 gb allocated to my iphoto application & i am unable to add more photos to my library.  i keep getting a popup that says not enough application memory.

There is excessive swapping of data between physical memory (that is, the memory chips on the logic board) and virtual memory (one or more files on the startup volume.) That activity is relatively slow and causes the whole system to be less responsive. It can happen for two reasons:
A long-running process with a memory leak (a kind of bug)
Not enough memory for your usage pattern
Tracking down a memory leak can be difficult, and it may come down to a process of elimination.
These instructions are for OS X 10.9 ("Mavericks.") The procedure may be slightly different for earlier versions of OS X.
When you notice the swap activity, open the Activity Monitor application and select All Processes from the View menu, if it's not already selected. Select the Memory tab. Click the heading of the Real Mem column in the process table twice to sort the table with the highest value at the top. If you don't see that column, select
View ▹ Columns ▹ Real Memory
    from the menu bar.
If one process (excluding "kernel_task") is using much more memory than all the others, that could be an indication of a leak. A better indication would be a process that continually grabs more and more real memory over time without ever releasing it. Here is an example of how it's done.
The processes named "Safari Web Content" render web pages for Safari. They use a lot of memory and may leak if certain Safari extensions or third-party web plugins are installed. Consider them prime suspects.
Another process often implicated in memory leaks is "inkjet4" or "inkjet8," which is a component of the HP printing software. If it's present, force-quit the process in Activity Monitor to solve the problem temporarily. Empty the print queues in the Printers & Scanners preference pane (which has a slightly different name in each recent version of OS X.) If you don't use an HP printer, remove the software. Otherwise, if the problem is recurrent, update the software (which may not help) or contact HP support.
"Wired" memory should be a small part of the total. That memory is not swapped, but it makes less physical memory available which may then result in swapping. If you have a lot of wired memory, that's usually an indication of a memory leak in a third-party program that modifies the operating system at a low level. Ask for guidance in that case.
If you don't have an obvious memory leak, your options are to install more memory (if possible) or to run fewer programs simultaneously.
The next suggestion is only for users familiar with the shell. For a more precise, but potentially misleading, test, run the following command:
sudo leaks -nocontext -nostacks process | grep total
where process is the name of a process you suspect of leaking memory. Almost every process will leak some memory; the question is how much, and especially how much the leak increases with time. I can’t be more specific. See the  leaks(1) man page and the Apple developer documentation for details.

    Hello Pushtheriver,
After reviewing your post, I have located an article that can help in this situation. It contains a number of troubleshooting steps and helpful advice concerning iCloud storage issues:
    Get help using iCloud storage
    This may also help:
    Understanding iOS device capacity
You can sync and download many different types of content on your device. Some types of content (such as music and videos) typically take more space than others (such as notes and books). The amount of space taken by an app depends on the app's purpose; complex or graphically intense apps usually take more space than simpler apps.
If your device is near its capacity, you can remove some of the less used content to make room for more.

  • "Warning! Not Enough Memory!" A bug in Logic 7.1?

    Hello,
I seem to have discovered a bug in my Logic 7.1, and would like to see if this is a system specific bug, or a bug in everyones Logic. It seems to occur in the Matrix editor which results in the error ""Warning! Not enough memory! This operation cannot be undone" and follows with the mysterious deletion of random parts, and totally corrupts the file, preventing me from doing any further MIDI edits or even undo the mysterious deleated parts!
Here is how I discovered it. I selected two separate audio instrument tracks (violin and viola) and opened them in the matrix editor. To see both parts at once, I double clicked on the background, resulting in viewing all possible MIDI parts. I then selected from the "show selected regions only" from the view menu to isolate the violin and viola parts. I then copied some notes from the violin part and then double clicked on the viola part and attempted to paste the violin information I copied to the viola part. However, the information would not paste for some reason, so I decided to simply draw in the new notes, and BAM, the error message "Warning! Not enough memory" occurs.
I have been able to replicate this error on my own system on a few occasions, but it doesn't always seem to happen which is strange. I may be able to get around it by making sure I double click and isolate the part I want to copy first, before isolating where I want to copy it to, however I need to test this idea out more often to make sure. In the mean time I have tried "reorganizing memory" in logic, repairing permissions and running all maintenance scripts, Re-installed the OS 10.3.9 update (just incase something didn't install correctly), ran apple "hardware test" in which everything passed, and trashed and rebuild my preferences, and I'm still able to create this error.
I do feel something is wrong here, I was wondering if anyone may be willing to try to duplicate this on their system, just so I can be sure there is a Logic bug, or maybe there is something wrong with my personal setup. (MANY weird things have been happening lately, such as corrupted key commands in my preference files).
Thanks in advance for your help!
    -Jon

Thanks for your comments Rohan. The reason this post was relatively clear headed is because I already went through my "freak out" process earlier that week! But thanks for your comments. I did try to make this post as clear as possible, in the hopes that others could potentially get the same "buggy" results. I guess the problem seems to stem from something bigger then how I arrived at it, but from what I've found researching it, the matrix editor does seem to play a consistent part.
Maybe we should send a quick note to apple, asking them to keep an eye out for this bug?
In answer to your specific questions, the size of my file before the error was 468KB, and the file after I saved the error is 544KB. Not a big enough difference to raise flags, as the error file does contain a few more seconds of music, some different parts, etc. The song itself is only 32 bars long @ 103bpm, and the total bars is set to 266. At the current tempo, the song would end at around 7min, much shorter then an hour. For the record, I have done many longer, more memory and CPU intensive pieces and experienced no such problems (except for the need to freeze a few tracks). For example, I recently scored a film that was heavy in Atmosphere, VSL, and Stormdrum, and ran an uncompressed film file and no problem. Now that I think of it, perhaps it could be an EXS problem even? For those who have experienced this error, were you editing a EXS part?
As for the Key commands problem, I will have to do more research and testing once I upgrade my system. I dont mind loosing my current key commands and preferences and starting again.
