Windows SMTP service - restrictions

Hi
I have installed a SMTP service under IIS 6.0 in windows 2008 R2
I would like to know if is possible to restrict the SMPT traffic to specific domains
Example: i only want that only relay traffic to google.com
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
Please refer to Don's suggestion in following thread and check if can help you.
restrict destination domain on SMTP service
In addition, for your current issue, I suggest that you should post it in
IIS forum. I believe we will get a better assistance there.
Hope this helps.
Best regards,
Justin Gu

  • Exchange 2013 SMTP service delayed / slow acknowledgement

    Hey Guys,
since we upgraded from Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013 (SP1) any SMTP Receive Connector we create (including the default one) show the same strange behavior. When you send an email (no matter if internal or external) it sometimes takes
up to 30 seconds for the exchange server to acknowledge the message. Using the SMTP log I see the following entries:
    2014-08-08T08:58:29.053Z,                       MAIL FROM:<[email protected]>,
    2014-08-08T08:58:29.053Z,                       SMTPSubmit SMTPAcceptAnySender SMTPAcceptAuthoritativeDomainSender AcceptRoutingHeaders,Set
    Session Permissions
    2014-08-08T08:58:29.053Z,                       receiving message
    2014-08-08T08:58:29.053Z,                       250 2.1.0 Sender OK,
    2014-08-08T08:58:29.053Z,                       RCPT TO:<[email protected]>,
    2014-08-08T08:58:29.053Z,                       250 2.1.5 Recipient OK,
    2014-08-08T08:58:29.053Z,                       DATA,
2014-08-08T08:58:29.053Z,                       354 Start mail input; end with <CRLF>.<CRLF>,
2014-08-08T08:58:29.068Z,                       Proxy destination(s) obtained from OnProxyInboundMessage event
    2014-08-08T08:58:40.960Z,                       "250 2.6.0 <5160cd2a-9160-4a35-9007-1f9c17761bc0@--------> [InternalId=17776869639170,
    Hostname=-----------] Queued mail for delivery",
As you can see there’s a delay between 08:58:29 and 08:58:40 where nothing happens. The sending smtp service waits for the server to acknowledge the message – at least that’s what I guess. Since we use this kind of connector a lot for
internal mail traffic with non-Outlook clients it is essential to get rid of this issue. For example using Trac Ticket system or Subversion also leads to slow or delayed responses. Creating a ticket in Trac sometimes takes up to a Minute since several emails
are created and sent in background processes. We didn’t have this issue with Exchange 2010 and I actually couldn’t find much using google.
Since there's no error showing it's quite difficult to track down the issue. After I did some researching I tried configuring the receive connector to change this behavior but nothing helped. I tested the following options:
    MaxAcknowledgementDelay 00:00:00
    TarpitInterval 00:00:00
    MessageRateSource None
    MessageRateLimit unlimited
    MaxInboundConnectionPercentagePerSource: 20
    MaxInboundConnectionPerSource 100
I Also took a look at the Throttling Policies with no luck either.
Calling the Microsoft support simply led to the typical “we do not support 3rd party issues”. In fact this is NOT a third party issue but arguing didn't help. I tested every possible solution I found and after weeks
I simply dont' have the slightest idea any more, how to solve the problem.
Some information about our Exchange environment:
    Exchange DAG with 2 servers
    Windows Server 2012 (latest updates)
    Exchange 2013 SP1 installed
Disabling DAG members also didn’t help and all the members show the same behavior no matter which connector I choose to use.
Any hint or idea would be very much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Christoph

    Hi Christoph,
From the SMTP session, the delay happened when processing data. This can be caused by several factors, such as the length of message content.
In Exchange 2013, we have the function called shadow redundancy, the transport server makes a redundant copy of any messages it receives before it acknowledges successfully receiving the message back to the sending server. This helps to ensure that all messages
in the Exchange 2013 transport pipeline are made redundant while they're in transit. If Exchange 2013 determines the original message was lost in transit, the redundant copy of the message is redelivered.
For more information about shadow redundancy, we can refer to the article:
    Shadow redundancy
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd351027(v=exchg.150).aspx
By default, it is enabled, and if we want to disable it, we can use the command:
    Set-TransportConfig –ShadowRedundancyEnabled $false

  • Issues about smtp service of mail.app

    Problem replicating:
    1. Log in an email account, say Gmail  in the system preference.
--> You can receive and send email in the Mail.app normally.
    2. Change password of the email account on website (Gmail).
--> Fail to receive email in the Mail.app. (Of course...)
    3. A window (from system preference) pop-up and tell me I need to enter the new password; and I did.
--> Doesn't work! The window just keep warning me that the connection cannot be established and keep asking for new password. (Issue One)
    4. Well, I delete the entire account in the preference setting; and then, do all the account setting again, using the new password.
--> Account setting successfully. And the Mail.app seems work properly again (IMAP service function normally).
    5. However, if you try to send an email via the Mail.app; it will warn you that the smtp service cannot be connected. (Issue Two)
    6. After some research, it seems that the Mail.app still using the old password for smtp service, even I have deleted the entire account from the system!
I am using Yosemite 10.10.1, and all softwares are up-to-date (29.1.2015).

OK, so go into your email app, click on Mail, Preferences, Accounts. Find the account you're looking for and click on it to highlight it. Under "Account Information" the option for Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) there will most likely be an SMTP account selected. Click on the up/down arrow next to it, then choose Edit SMTP server list. From there you can go 2 ways. You can either edit the current server, or delete it and start over and add the SMTP server that will allow you to send mail.  You'll need the correct account information for that and the advanced settings, as well. Usually, it's an SSL connection with password as authentication. Your username will most likely be your gmail address and then whatever your password is to receive mail. Do not check the box to allow insecure authentication. Check the box next to "Use SSL."
That should clear it up for you. If you have more than one email account - gmail or otherwise - you'll need to set up a separate SMTP server for each account.
    Hope this helps. Happy emailing!

That issue can be caused by an extension that isn't working properly.
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

  • Windows Search Service Crashes on Windows Server 2012 R2

    Hi,
I'm running Windows Search service on a Windows Server 2012 R2 (24GB RAM, 8-core proc). The index catalog has a little over 2 million items (files and folders indexed).
Every once in a while this service crashes, and either remains in limbo or automatically recovers and restarts the index from zero. I'm trying to find out information about what may be causing the crashes and about how to prevent them. Unfortunately, I don't
seem to be able to find much about the Windows Search service on Windows Server 2012 R2. So anyone who may have input on this, please chip in.
    Additional info:
    - As mentioned above, the server OS is Windows Server 2012 R2. This is a physical server with 24GB RAM, 8-core proc and over 2TB of storage.
    - This server acts as a DC and as a File Server. In addition to this and Windows Search service, there are no other major services running here
    - Symantec Endpoing protection is installed and running on this server, but I've made sure to exclude the Window Search database from SEP
Here are some of the errors that are generated when the issue happens:
The error below may show up in the event logs. If it shows up more than once, the indexing service has likely crashed and won't recover.

I attempted to stop the indexing service, but it didn't stop. I noticed though that the indexing GUI started responding as soon as the
the service stop command failed. The indexing service seems to have picked up where it was (~300K items) and continued indexing.

    Hi,
    Thanks for your post.
To resolve this problem, use the Registry Editor to change the default timeout value for all services.

HP UFT 12.02 is not installing on Windows 7 Service Pack 1. But the Install Guide says it supports and recommends Windows 7 Service Pack 1 as the Operating System.

    Hey Hello Dear,
Please upgrade UR windows 7 Service pack to Service pack 2.
from my knowledge for SQL SERVER 2012 it requires Windows 7 service pack.
And before installing SQL server 2012 Plz activate .NET framework for that,
Put UR windows 7 Format CD then,
Run Command prompt as Administrator and paste following cmd in that
    DISM.exe /online /enable-feature /featurename:NetFX3 /All /Source:c:\net35 /LimitAccess
it will take 2 min. after that restart your PC and try to install SQL server 2012.
Note: Before installing SQL SERVER again format UR PC/lapy once.
After this if it gives error while installation then plz change ur setup and try again.

  • Windows Firewall Service Crashes on Windows Server 2012

    Hello Team,
I am facing issues with Windows Firewall Service in new Windows 2012 R2 deployments. when i try to start the Firewall service it wont start and it throws an error message to check the system event logs for information
The Windows Firewall service terminated with the following service-specific error:
    The data is invalid.
I deployed this OS on a VM running with latest VM tools and HW version which is running on ESXi 5.1 U1
    2 GB RAM, 1 vCPU
OS deployed through ISO downloaded from MS portal and License activated through KMS system, performed a couple of reboots as well.
any advise on this issue? i am sure some of you might have also faced the same issue

    1. VMware support forum and knowledge base may give you more specific advice.
    2. Windows services may be dependent on another service(s). Analyze these dependences. Do it after you understand implications of VMware firewall function.
    3. More detailed info from Event log is needed for analysis (Event ID, etc)
    4. Hope you have connectivity configured correctly.
    5. For firewall in VMware read the following article(s):

  • Windows Search Service Best Pratices on RDP Server with office 2013

    high everybody,
i´m looking for guide how to configure the Windows Search Service on our Server 2012 RDS Servers. The Servers have Office 2013 installed so turning off the Search Service is not an Option. We are using User Profile disks and logoff was getting slower
as time goes by. Reading in another thread if have deleted the Subkeys under
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Search\CrawlScopeManager\Windows\SystemIndex\DefaultRules
    and restarted the Search Service.
This Resulted in a lighning fast logoff ( less then 5 Seconds) before that logoff took up to 2 Minutes. Looking at the Reg Key´s i found that underneth the mentioned Key there was a subkey for each user that has EVER loged on to this Server. Normal load
should be about 30 Users and i found about 700 subkey´s. To it seems that this causes the Search Service searchindexer.exe to read thru all this key´s witch i think is not the Problem ( Internet Explorer does far more reads and writes) but what happens
    with the Information.
Maybe it has to to with the fact, that we are using User Profile Disks ?
In the Search Service Policy i have excluded "C:","users homedrive" and the Share where the Users share theyr data, for the Search Service to exclude.
So does anybode have experience with Seach Service on RDS Servers with Office maybe with User Profile Disks ?
    Thanks Reiner

  • Is there a way to change the Windows Update service startup type on Windows Server 2012 R2?

We have a number of newly built 2012 R2 servers that we have HP Operations Manager agent running on that monitors the status of several services and reports if they are "stopped". One of these services is Windows Update. Every day we
get at least one alert saying:
"Service "Windows Update" is not started. Current state is stopped"
Checking the event logs shows that the Windows Update service stops, then a while later it just starts again. Not an error, just an information event.
In Windows 2012 R2 the Windows Update service is set to "Automatic (Trigger Start)", where in previous versions we run (2012/2008R2) it would be set to just "Automatic" or "Automatic (Delayed Start)"
I have come to understand that this behaviour is normal for Windows 2012 R2, and that Trigger Start services by design stop themselves after a period of inactivity. I was unable to find any info on how this works. Our client would like this to
be changed and the Windows Update service stay running all the time, understanding that this impacts performance.
Is there a way to change the Windows Update service in Server 2012 R2 to the old Automatic startup behaviour so that it stays running all the time instead of stopping and starting periodicall? There is no option to do this via the services mmc
    gui.
    So far I have tried:
Removing the Triggers using the command: sc triggerinfo wuauserv delete
This works temporarily, the service then shows as just Automatic in the services console, however if you restart the server or restart the service it goes right back to being Automatic (Trigger Start).
Any kind of help would be appreciated.

    This one might help.

Sorry for the long title, first time poster here.

This thread is pretty old, are you still having this issue?

I assume you are implying "biztax" application here, right?
I have contacted their program lead, with no result at all.
Past days I have been searching for a solution - reinstalls / new systems - no solution.
This issue appeared a week or two ago only.
I found http://forums.adobe.com/message/5338853 useful - but no positive results either.
    http://test.eid.belgium.be/faq/faq_nl.htm obviously didnt help either.
If anyone finds a solution to this issue, please do let me know - any help is appreciated.
Biztax tells to use the "signature", not the "authentication"  - but it is only Auth. that is showing up as option to sign (that works)
ps, did you fiddle with the Adobe Reader XI security settings and import that PKI etc as well? I hoped that would be the breaktrough. Sadly i'm still crying in my chair.
Oh, and dont forget: they claim nobody else got this issue. Maybe one or two people. (We got about 8 customers experiencing exactly the same symptoms at the same time )
    >  I noticed that when I try to open the pdf  document that is 'signed' by the government it is not showing the filename in the title bar, but only " - Adobe Reader".    every piece of info helps I guess.
Obviously last version of Reader   11.0.03
