Windows Users Can't See My Site

I've posted an iWeb site recently, but my friends on Windows machines claim to get error messages when accessing the site and can't see it. Any ideas?

If you sent them the url by email, it might get broken if too long and not work when they click on it. Make sure you use the shortest possible url, like http://web.mac.com/username and also put it inside <brackets>.

You appear to have compressed this movie using H.264 codec and many Windows users do not have the ability to decode this movie. Also, you are using AAC audio compression- both favorites of mine, but difficult for many Windows users. I woulod suggest recompressing this movie using Sorenson and Qualcom for video and audio compression, that should make it easier for your viewers. Also- just a suggestion- you could probably drop the frame rate down to about 10 fps and reduce the size of the file at the same time, this being primarily a movie with talking heads.

  • Windows user can not see my page

    Hi,
I was just informed by a friend that he could only see a grey screen when visiting my site www.bfg-kommunikation.de - which i built up using iWeb.
Same occurs with www.zweiemm.de - another page of mine.
He uses Windows XP and IE 6.0.
Does anybody know how that comes and how it can be resolved ?
    Thanks in acvance,
    Peter

    Mr. Appleby,
Unless you've made the corrections in the interim of this response, both sites came up on a Windows XP machine in Firefox 2.0.0.4 and IE 6.0. They are both impressively designed iWeb sites. Unique.

  • Windows Users Can't Get My Site.

I'm new to iWeb. But not new to the wonders of the Mac.
I recently used iWeb to create and publish a web page.
It all looked fine when I viewed it.
But friends I send the link to tell me they cannot get there.
This is what they send back to me:
THIS IS WHAT I GET WHEN I TRY TO ACCESS THE SITE:
but we can't find the iWeb page you've requested. It's possible that:
·The address was entered incorrectly. Check your spelling and try again.
·The .Mac member of this name has either created a page and removed it or has never published an iWeb site.
·There is no .Mac member of this name. If you'd like this member name for yourself, sign up for a .Mac account right now and have your own iWeb site in minutes.

    Hello and thanks to all.
I am using the address as suggested by James. And I have since asked another friend, with a Mac, to check it out and it's coming through fine for her. The other factor might be that the first person is on a dial-up connection. So I'm guessing either dial-up, or a older windows computer is the problem.
This is what I have sent.
    http://web.mac.com/geo23
    It works fine for me.
But what my friend gets is what looks like the banner on the apple site with all the links to various places, such as the Apple Store, .Mac, Quicktime, Support, etc. But it is broken up, incomplete. Then below that is a short list of reasons why she is not getting to the site, such as:

Then more of the same but in several different languages.

  • Windows Users can access shares but Macs Can't

Running 10.8 on the server and here is the below problem I am having
    1. Windows users can access the file shares read/write (even though they create permissions wrong, another day to takle that since I already tried ACL)
    2. Macs running 10.8 and Mavericks
Open the server in finder on a user machine. Can sometimes see the two share folders. Other times just get the spinning wheel.
Now if you are so brave to click on the folder then finder will spin forever.
It locks finder up so hard that you can't shut down the machine without holding the power button. Other programs will run just fine, it only affects finder.
I tried connecting from the mac with smb:// to see if it is an AFP issue but it just sits on connecting forever.
I looked through the logs and don't see anything. But my knowledge of logs is terrible.
    Any help would be great.
    Thanks

  • MacBookPro - Suddenly can't connect to Cisco WAP while Windows Users Can

    Hi,
My partner and I, both consulants, use MBP's. At one of our client's sites, our MBP's suddenly stopped being able to connect to the wireless network there. We believe this started happening shortly after installing a regular security update last February.
The odd thing is, we can go to another building where there is another access point, same make and model, same SSID, which we can connect to with no problem.
Meanwhile, since we are the only Mac users, and are mere consultants, the local IT guys don't bother to check it out.
We get the "There was an error joining the Airport network "<network name>" error message. We have double checked and know we have the right WEP keys. I don't remember off hand the strength of the WEP, but it's pretty simple and straight forward, and must be the same as the other WAP since all the Windows users can go between locations without having to reconfigure.
I've been to the genius bar, and they haven't seen any reference to this any where in the KB or on any of the forums.
If anyone has any ideas, please let me know.
    Thanks,
    -ktb

My partner called Apple Support today after downloading a security update he hoped would address the problem (but to no avail). He managed to reach someone who knew something about the problem.
The support staffer indicated that there was a known issue connecting with some Linksys WAPs (and since Cisco now owns Linksys, they are probably using the same chip sets in some products). Even though the staffer acknowledged that the problem was caused by a security update, and thus was a software problem (confirmed by the fact that we can connect when we boot windows in Boot Camp and are able to connect), they said there was nothing they could do - not even offer a way to downrev our airport firmware.
This is the kind of support I expect from the Evil Empire in Redmond, not Steve and company. Feh - success breeds contempt.

  • PC users can't navigate my site, the home page is frozen

When I publish minor changes to my site (added graphic cirles behind photos), Mac users can easily navigate my site, but PC users cannot.  The home page is completely frozen for for them, and the links on the site cannot be clicked through.  Does anyone know why this is happening?  My site is:  www.flourpowered.com.  I publish through Go Daddy.  Thanks.

Looking at the browser activity window proves OT's point that the sum total of the image files are causing the page to load slowly. IE is notoriously slow and will not have much chance with a page like yours.
You should also consider using an optimizer application which will help your pages download up to twice as fast...

  • One user can't see presence and send IM to one specific colleague

    Hi there
One of our J4W users have a very strange issue, but it's only affected that user (at least what I know of).
The user can't see presence status or send a IM to one specific user. If she tries to send a PM, she gets this message: "Message to <person> could not be delivered".
However, she can see presence and send IM's to other users just fine.
I have tried with version 9.1.2/3 . I have not seen this issue on other users.
    J4W 9.1.X
    Windows 7 Enterprise 32 bit
    CUP: 8.6.2.10000-44
    CUCM: 8.6.2.22900-9
    AD 2008 R2
Is this also a J4W software defect or what could it be?
    Thanks
    Kristian

    Hi both of you.
Yes you are right, our CUP domain is not the same as our email domain. I guess I have to change the CUP domain then. Do you know any guides to do this? I guess I have to restart the CUP server after changing domain?
We are also seeing inconsistences that can arise from adding Outlook contacts, so this should solve alot of issues for us.
I hope it will fix the issues
    Thanks

  • Window users can't save my pictures i do sent by email

    Hello,
Since i upgrade to OS X Lion Window users can't save photo's i do sent them by email. Before the upgrade it was never a problem.
They do receive the mail. When they open it they do see the photos but not as an attatchment. So no jp(e)g attachments...just the photo in the mail.
But whatever they do or try they just can't save the pictures i do mail them.
I also selected "Sent Windows used attatchemnt"....and all other things..nothing helps.
Who can help since i need to mail many pictures each day to window users.
    I would really be thankfull.

It's a known issue with embedded images in Outlook.
It comes up with Mail on Lion cause Apple has decided to redesign Mail more close to the mail standards for better compatibility with the majority of mail applications.
Unfortunately Windows Outlook handle mail in a more proprietary way and not the way almost all other mail applications will do.
A workaround for Windows Outlook users is described in the knowledge base article behind the following link.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/917120
A workaround for Apple users is only to put the file in a compressed folder (e.g. ZIP) prior of attaching to the mail.

  • User can't see items to add to worksheet

    Hello!
I have a problem with some user who does not see any items from business area when trying to create workbook in Discoverer Dekstop.
    Environment:
    OD:XP Prof SP2
    DB: Oracle XE 10.2.0.1.0 Production
    Desktop Clinet 10.1.2.48.18
    EUL Library 10.1.2.48.18
    EUL 5.1.1.0.0.0
    The testing scenario was:
created a user in Oracle XE and 4 tables imported in this schema, create joins, indexes... Created 5 users with select granted on this tables. Each user has his own EUL and all can work with no problems except one user. This particular user log into Discoverer Administrator and creates an EUL and Business area. But when the user logs into D.Desktop and tries to create a Workbook, at setp 2 of the Create Workbook wizard there are no items to add to the Worksheet. All the users have the exactly the same clients, privileges and were created in the same way. All off them can work normally in D.Administrator. Any ideas why this user can't see any items from BusinessArea?
    Thanks for Your help, Peter

    Hi Peter
You might get better luck if you post questions about Discoverer into the Discoverer forum: Discoverer where I am one of the principal answerers of questions.
With regards to this particular issue it sounds as though the user does not have the correct EUL setup inside Desktop.
To check and fix, use this workflow:
    1. Log on to Discoverer Desktop
    2. When prompted whether to create or open a workbook, click the Cancel button
    3. From the toolbar, select Tools | Options
    4. Click the EUL tab - it is the last one so you will need to scroll across
    5. Look at the value for Default EUL
    6. If it is not the one the user created, use thr drop-down to select the right one
    7. Click the OK button
    8. From the toolbar, select File | Connect to Database and reconnect
    9. The user should be able to see the items now
When an EUL is created you have the option of creating a public or a private EUL. If any user creates a public EUL then all users will have access to that EUL but not to the business areas and items in that EUL, not at least until the owner grants access. New connections to Desktop will pick up a default EUL which will be one of the public EULs, and not always the EUL just created by the user on that machine.
Could this be the case with you?
    I hope this helps
    Best wishes

  • Windows user can no longer connect to my File Sharing IP address

    Hello,
Since updating to OS X 10.4.9, Windows users can no longer connect to my file sharing IP address.
I have had no problems when I was using 10.4.8, and I have re-checked both the Windows computer and my Mac to make sure that the file sharing connection should be possible.
I think this may be some sort of firewall / security issue (?) in that the 10.4.9 update has downloaded something which now "hides" my Mac at this IP address. I am unsure how to resolve this problem.
Does anyone have a suggestion? Much obliged, in advance.

Can the Mac connect to the PC?
Have you checked the Workgroup is the same on the Mac
    in Directory Access>CIS/SMB?
Have you tried turning off the Firewall for a test?
    Has the IP changed?
    Hello!
Thank you for the suggestive questions above. I haven't "tested" any of them because I simply became exasperated with the "change" in 10.4.9 and went back to system 10.4.8
Of course, now everything is right with the world and I can once again have my Windows computer connect to my Mac.
Thank you for taking the time in trying to help me -- much obliged.

Apple Mail isn't going to change the format of any of your attachments. it isn't going to corrupt them either.
Exchange is a transport protocol and server. The issue you describe is not related to Exchange.
There are many different versions of Microsoft Outlook in use and they all have e-mail bugs. Different versions have different bugs. Some Apple Mail hack to get around a bug in Outlook 2003 may cause the same message to be problematic in Outlook 2000. Fix them both and another issue will cause trouble in Outlook 2007. You can't fix this. Apple can't fix this. Microsoft can and has but that is irrelevant if your recipients are using older versions.
One specific problem is that Apple Mail always sends image attachments inline, as images, not as iconized files. You can change this with Attachment Tamer. Just be aware that use of this software will break other things such as Stationery. E-mail is just a disaster. To date, no one outside of Apple has ever implemented the e-mail standards from 1993. Apple has continually changed its e-mail software to be more compatible with the de-facto standards that Netscape and Microsoft have unilaterally defined and people documented as "standards" after the fact. The e-mail messages that Apple Mail sends are 100% correct and do not violate any of the original standards from 1993 or the Microsoft/Netscape modifications. The problem is entirely bugs and limitations in various versions of Outlook.

    Hi all,
We have experienced that a certain user can only see the public area of
a collaboration room although the user has member rights to see more
    content.
We have tried to remove the user from the room and add him again. It
    did not help.
Other users have been added before and after this user without problems.
What could be wrong with this user?

  • Some users can't see attributes in the Query Builder

    Hi.
I have problem. Some users can't see some of attributes of info-object in the Query Designer. Where is the problem?

I think you would need to give more details on the problem,
as <b>some</b> users are not able to see <b>some</b> attributes.
Do they all share the same profile, what is the distinguishing thing among the some users who can see the attributes and the ones who cannot see the attributes.
Need to drill down further I guess.

This is a real issue. I am a Help-desk in a global company and after changing a mail list name in Server end, users can't see the update in outlook client. Even I download Offline address book in full detail, user still can't see the change in her outlook.
Does anyone know how to fix it?

    Hi,
Would you please detail what you did by "changing a mail list name in Server end"? What is the mail list and what server?
If you switch to Online Mode instead of Cached Exchange Mode, does the user see the change?
