Windows vist quit working

windows disapeared from screen. a message in lower right side of screen says"this copy of windows vista is not genuine. it came with the computer which i purched new from sams club. it directs me to a window which gives me a choice of entering a code which did not come with the unit or i can purchase a new key. i should not have to to do this. HELP

There may have a sticker with OS product key at bottom side back cover, and then change the product key. Or you can try to use HP's recovery disk.

I do not understand and never seen a log that tell you what to buy or what it cost.
according to your explanation I would probably try to restore to point in time before the first installation which star the problem. If you do not have a backup then it is a great lesson for life :-)

Please provide us more information from the log file during the installation that stopped + the errors that you get in current attempt to install.

TS1538 On Windows Vista, everything works through the USB ports except IOS devices. This just started and I can't get things to work. Help!

The past few days I find my IOS devices don't show up in "My Computer" and they don't show up in iTunes. All other USB devices work well. I am using Windows Vista. I have tried several troubleshooting things, including unintalling and reinstalling iTunes, stopping and starting the Apple monitors, etc. Nothing is working. Ideas?

It's really great that you're taking the time to help me. I did several of the tests you recommend over the last two or three days. It always shows that the iPod/iPhone/iPad isn't present. Here's more. I got a Norton tech to help me yesterday and it isn't the anti-virus, as we uninstalled everything and it still didn't work. I went deeper into the system through the control panel, and found the device detected on the appropriate USB port, but it won't show up in "My Computer". Two of the three devices show up on another PC, (I didn't test the third) so I'm leaning to something in iTunes because every other USB device I plug into the Vista ports shows up quickly and works perfectly (thumb drives, wireless mouse, camera, etc). I already unistalled all Apple software and downloaded new, but the problem still exists. I have restarted, unplugged, you name it and the devices aren't showing up. I can't wirelessly sync either because one has to set that up through iTunes prior to doing it.

To check if u installed correctly, in cmd prompt type tnsping xe. If installed correctly it shud say OK(30) else it will show an error. Now if it says OK, in cmd prompt type sqlplus and connect using system/pwd_u_provided_durin_installation, it shud connect.
Some steps to follow before installing XE
Before Installing Oracle,make sure to disable all the network adapters and ping in cmd prompt localhost and ur machine name, both shud refer to 127.0.0.1. Once oracle is installed,try to connect in ur web explorer and once connected,enable the network adapters. There shudnt be any firewall prob.,if it does add port 8080 as an exception to ur firewall list.

Windows Vista not working correctly with Leopard 10.5

I just updated my MacBook Pro 17" by installing Leopard 10.5xx (erased and installed), then used BootCamp to partition disk and install Windows Vista. In Windows, my volume control is on, but no sound. I just got the error, "This problem was caused by a compatibility issue between Intel 82801GBM (ICH7-M) LPC Interface Controller - 27B9 and Windows Vista. I am having problems with drivers, and as I'm a new user to Mac/Windows, so I don't even know how to identify which drivers (on Leopard installation disk)I need. In Windows Device Manager I have something called "Human Interface" that needs a driver . . . but my computer can't find it on my Mac or on the disk.
I purchased extended AppleCare warranty, but don't know how to use it, and my 90 days is up so I can't call. Is this warranty strictly for hardware? I don't understand how to get the support/how to information I need; I'm a Windows user and find Apple's support confusing and indirect.

sorry, can't help, but you're definitely in the wrong forum. this is about mac os SERVER (not client) and your problem is related to either the hwardware you use or bootcamp.

Windows Vista not working on Airport Extreme network

We had an old airport, and the windows vista computer could connect just fine, no problems. We recently got an Airport Extreme to add networked printing, and now the Windows Vista computer cannot connect. Anyone know why or how to fix this?

Windows Vista & K9AGM working fine

If you're a K9AGM motherboard owner and plan to use Windows Vista, make sure you have a version 3.2 BIOS (or over). Anything below this version will result in spontaneous reboots every 10 minutes. This behaviour is also present with Windows Server 2003.
I don't know if the BIOS has been released to the public yet. If not, it should be available very soon (mine has been provided directly by MSI USA to fix this show-stopper issue).

Itunes 7.7 and windows Vista not working!

I have been plagued with iTunes and Vista problems ever since i got it on my Pc over 9 months ago!!
I had hoped that a multimillion company like apple most successful in this nich of the market would want to keep its customers and provide us with up to date valid software but NO..... 9moths later same problem!
Every time i uninstall and install a newER verson of iTunes i get the following sequale of errors:
1. Firstly a box appears with a sliding bar with " Please wait while windows configures iTunes "
2. When this finsihed another box appears " iTunes stopped working "
3. When u click OK (the only option) in the task bar on the bottom right a small bubble appears with the statment " Data execution prevention has closed iTunes "
Now i have been battling with this problem for some time and have tried many things like changing version of iTunes (clean uninstall and new install etc)
I have also located that if i try to start up Quicktime i get the same error box this time reading " Quicktime has stopped wotking "
I have uninstalled Quicktime and installed a new clean copy to no avail.....
Appart from throwing my iPod in the Thames and getting a samsung mp3 player, i dont see any solution... anyone have any ideas?

iTunes is a free program - it doesn't make good business sense for Apple to hire people to troubleshoot problems on Windows hardware - they'd have to hire hundreds, if not thousands to remote in to PCs and spend time fixing this kind of thing!
If you are getting that message about data execution prevention, you need to get DEP turned off, come **** or high water.
How about turning off UAC, can you even do that?
And with UAC turned off, can you disable DEP?

Remember you can always turn these back on to keep your system "safe" - this is just a test to get iTunes working.

My Photoshop Elements 6.0 for windows just quite working 4 days ago.

I have tried unistalling it and now i am trying to reinstalling it but it is saying needs disc one but i only have one disc? I called the support for adobe and she said they aren't allowed to help me cause 6.0 is out of date. Can anyone help me. I am running vista and can't get it installed now.

When you try that, make sure you right-click the program icon or Start menu item and select Run As Administrator. Running a program in an account that is a member of Administrators is not the same thing (as it was on XP).
If that doesn't work, you could be encountering one of the many reasons why PSE might crash or freeze, most of which are independent of the version of Windows. Unfortunately, these can be hard to diagnose quickly, and the best approach is to work methodically through all the known troubleshooting steps:

After a 4 days desperate downloading of PSE12 into my Windows Vista - nothing works!

4 days ago I bought an upgraded PSE 12 version on Adobes web link to replace my well working PSE7 version. Probably the most stupid deal I have ever made. PSE 12 must posess all installation failures and problems in the world. After countless attempts and reading Adobes "bible" of all kinds of unbelievable installation troubles the last 3-4 days it is to give up. I even had the program up running at two attempts, however when closing it never restarted . So if Adobe cannot give better service or come up with a considerable more robust PSE version to install, I just conclude, I reverse the deal -give me the money back.

True Adobe now dominates the market, but often times the word
"monopoly" comes with negative
connotations - Photoshop, AFter Effects, Flash and other
products have become so universaly standard
mostly because they deserve to be based on their features,
stability and because we chose to use
them over other products.
But I also agree with you, Adobe is now the one-stop-shopping
for almost anything a creative person
would need. I just wouldn't say there are no other choices. I
combine other animation software
almost everyday for things that flash falls short on.

Ipod nano 4gb and ipod video 80g with windows vista

hello! i've been trying (rather unsuccessfully) to sync the ipod nano to my laptop which has windows vista OS. i have the latest itunes 7.2 (just updated today from 7.1) and i always get the "found new hardware" pop-up everytime i plug the ipod nano via usb port. i also did the 5r's, but still the computer cannot and will not detect any software. i even downloaded the softwareupdater28-06-2006.exe but it will not run because it's superseded by itunes 7. my friend has an ipod video 80gb and i tried connecting it too, same thing popped up. both ipods do not show in "my computer" so i cannot even backup my songs! ah well. i just need to get the driver for the ipod i suppose. please help, any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

i have been having the same problem. My laptop was upgrade to windows vista and worked perfectly fine with my ipod and with others which had previously been used with the computer when it was running XP. My IPOD unfortunately crashed and need to be replaced. I brought it back to the laptop and connected it. it was not recognised but the others still are!
I have been looking on the internet and you are the only other i can find who is suffering this problem. i have looked in device manager and the new ipod is recognised as a 'other device', whereas the ipod that still works is classed as a 'portable device'. i have looked at the drivers and tried to install them by copying the drivers on the original ipod, but have not succeded. Since updating itunes to 7.2 i have been getting a 'do not disconnect' message on the ipod but it still does not appear in the sources list in itunes.
I have tried everything and am about to give up please HELP!

Can anyone tell me WHY my keyboard shortcuts—new window, close window—have quit working.
It's a pain in the tuckus to have to open a window with a menu.
It happened suddenly and would appreciate a fix if anyone has the same problem.

I change my Spotlight shortcut to Ctrl + Space and have no problems. I've never had a problem with use the Space Bar to get the Hand tool.

AirPort Disk - Issue with Windows Vista Ultimate

I setup an AirPort Extreme network, with a shared USB Drive and so far I've only found one issue.
When attempting to create new files and renaming them, or rename pre-existing files on the shared USB Drive using Windows Vista Ultimate I get the following Yes/No dialog:
"The Z:\ folder does not exist. The file may have been moved or deleted. Do you want to create it?"
Then there's information about the mapped drive. If I click "Yes" in the dialog, then the dialog goes away for a moment then pops back up. I can't create a new file directly on the shared AirPort Disk, nor can I modify or create and rename new files on the disk without getting stuck in the loop.
I can, however, create a new file locally on the Vista box and copy it up, and I can even create a new directory locally with files and copy them up without issue.
Now, the issue does not happen when I use my MacBook or my XP machine. This issues seems to be a Windows Vista issue only, and I haven't seen anyone else reporting it.
Here's information about the disk share implementation:
- The disk is password protected (turning on accounts really breaks the ability of Windows Vista to work with the disk)
- The disk is Mac Formatted with Case Sensitivity, and Journaling
This works like a top for OS X and Windows XP, just not Vista. I'd like to getting working properly for all machines.
If anyone's got some advice on this one, I'd love to hear it.

Here's a little more information regarding the issue:
- It's an AirPort Extreme Wireless Router with Firmware ver. 7.1
- The Windows Vista Ultimate PC has the most recent Microsoft patches to-date, and has the most recent Apple Airport Utilities Software to-date.
