Wine issue

i seem to be having a weird problem with wine. When i try running apps as a normal user all the text in the windows are missing. When i run the same app in wine as root it works fine. Here is a screenshot

if i run that as root the text shows up. any ideas on how to fix this?

Uff i had the same problem, and i tried with copyng the fonts to ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/fonts but the problem continues...
I have installe those fonts:
local/fontsproto 2.0.2-1
local/gsfonts 8.11-4
local/t1lib 5.1.0-2
local/ttf-bitstream-vera 1.10-5
local/ttf-ms-fonts 2.0-1
local/xf86bigfontproto 1.1.2-1
local/xorg-fonts-alias 1.0.1-1
local/xorg-fonts-encodings 1.0.0-2
local/xorg-fonts-misc 1.0.0-3
I tried with another user but i had the same result. Also i reinstalled wine (0.9.22) and the same stuff..
Somebody has some idea?
PD: The problem began when i simulated a windows's reboot (command wineboot)

Basically the issue comes down to some glib conflict with dwarf-fortress that I have had a good deal of trouble tracking down.

In order to fix a separate PANGO32 problem, at least partially, I implemented the hack found here in case anyone is having trouble on this account. This does not seem to fix every issue with GTK, as you can read above. Does anyone know what might or does fix this issue?

I'm not sure if there's a specific reason you're running through Wine, but you could always get one of the test releases from here. There's a native Linux version, among other fixes.

• Starcraft II Beta Launcher (Wine) Issue

Again I seem to be running into problems with this starcraft II beta, although this time it doesn't seem the problem has come up before -- wine doesn't have the answer after a fair amount of searching. I successfully installed it to one of my partitions, and the patches were all applied without a hitch, didn't get the slow firewall problem until the last patch application though, for whatever reason. I have an nVidia GTX 260 with the most current drivers installed. When I put the following command in the terminal it hangs on the bold and then goes through the rest to give me a popup window with a nice errorlog that I will post if someone thinks it is needed. Here is the terminal output.

Thanks, and good call, but there is not any documentation I can find on a launcher failure, the bolded code above just seems to be associated with screen tearing -- which seems like usually is a driver issue (most of the examples are with WoW).
Has anyone got the beta working with a GTX 260?

• ABS WINE issue, or simply looking for 20041019 package

Hello folks. I am having a slight problem with WINE. I am in need of wine 20041019 package. I used to be able to run foobar2000 on WINE 20041019 flawlessly, with no redraw problem or anything and it was simply working like native. However, at one point, wine was upgraded to newer version and foobar2000 started having various problem.
The problem is, I don't have that package cached and for some reason, I can't build functional WINE via ABS. Any version of WINE I installed through pacman worked, however, when I try to build WINE via ABS, it creates a WINE package, and I can install it, but it doesn't run. When I type in:
wine blahblah.exe
It hangs, without spitting out any error or doing anything, and I just have to Ctrl + C to kill it. It doesn't even start. WINE seems like the only package that doesn't build well, as I build various packages via ABS quite often. Other apps usually build quite well. I tried quite a few things to see if I could get foobar2000 to work again on WINE, but so far no go. I tried that sysctl thing as well as it was suggested with 2.6.10...
If anyone has tips to build WINE, or have 20041019 package, let me know. I miss foobar2000
• Latest wine issues[SOLVED]

did an upgrade yesterday and wine was updated. wine-1.1.14-1
now I get this error:
wine client error:0: version mismatch 380/381.
Your wineserver binary was not upgraded correctly,
or you have an older one somewhere in your PATH.
Or maybe the wrong wineserver is still running?
I was using it minutes before the upgrade...
Last edited by funkmuscle (2009-01-31 16:27:38)

I just upgraded it with wine running and there are no problems after relaunching it.
Your problems is the old one is still running:
pkill wine
pkill exe
htop or pstree
I have seen the error message when I had several different wine binaries and tried to launch different apps with different binaries. So you can only have 1 wine server running that is specific to the binary used to launch it.

• Eve online freezes on start (wine graphics detection issue)

Hi,
Basically my problem is - i'm getting
err:winediag:X11DRV_WineGL_InitOpenglInfo The Mesa OpenGL driver is using software rendering, most likely your OpenGL drivers haven't been installed correctly
When trying to start eve online.
I'm using Arch x86_64 on Dell Latitude e4300.
My graphic chip is Intel GMA 4500MHD, with working intel driver (direct rendering works as per glxinfo).
Wine version is 1.37.
Ist this a wine issue? Any chance of convincing wine that my direct rendering works?
Any info appreciated, thanks in advance.

installing lib32-libgl (and enabling texture compression with driconf so textures are actually rendered) fixed it, thanks.
I can now login/enter game.
I'm now getting

Nov 18 18:07:27 e4300 kernel: [drm:init_ring_common] *ERROR* render ring head not reset to zero ctl 00000000 head 124140b4 tail 00000000 start 02000000

when trying to undock. Which is probably known intel driver issue/bug as i find a lot of hits in google (also here in testing repo forum section).
But at least i can now trade/change skills/chat/spin ships...
EDIT: With xf86-video-intel-git i can actually undock and fly around for 2-3minutes before it hangs.

• Lack of Connectivty to Domain Controller - Domain Controller Access Issues Requires Repeated Reauthentication

Sorry if my attempt to be thorough in my description may result in excessive and unnecessary information.
I'm running into some problems with a single server running WS 2012 R2 as a domain controller (AD and DNS) and I’m trying to figure out what the cause is.
The network has ~10 computers on it connected through a cable business gateway (running DHCP) which feeds 2 switches and a wireless router acting as a switch. (I also turned on remote services, but the end users aren’t using that until I get certificates
setup.)
For 6+ months everyone had access to the shared files and databases on each workstation without issue.
In the last month users would occasionally have to re-enter their credentials to get access to shared server folders despite being on a domain account already.
Last week one of the computers intermittently cannot gain access to the shared folders– entering the correct credentials just results in the credentials being requested again and again: There’s an error icon at the bottom saying that “there are currently
no logon servers available to service the logon request”.  While access is rejected I’m still able to ping the DC both via its name and IPV4 address.
(Pinging via its name results in an IPv6 address in the response.)
Other network connectivity appears intact (able to browse the web, perform network discovery.)
Things that ‘seem’ to allow access on this computer until the next failure:
Entering a different domain username and password into the windows credentials request has allowed access a couple of times.
Disconnecting and reconnecting the network cable allowed the original username to be used to log on (at least once.)
After removing it from and then rejoining it to the domain (a few hours ago) it experienced the problem once more. Also, logging on with domain credentials created a TEMP user folder instead of the folder with the domain username.
Looking at the event logs, I notice there are quite a few warnings and errors reported regarding DC access on many of the computers; maybe this is normal?
Most Problematic Computer:
Event ID 8016:  System failed to register host A or AAAA resource records. (With an unknown Ipv6 and the server’s ipv4 address in the DNS server list.)
Event ID 131:  NtpClient unable to set a domain peer to use as a time source because of DNS resolution error on ‘Server.domain.local’
‘No such host is known.”
Event ID 5719:  NETLOGON. This computer was not able to setup a secure session with a domain controller in the domain due …..: there are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request.
And then pairs of: Event 1500: The Group Policy settings for the computer were processed successfully. There were no changes detected since the last successful processing of Group Policy. & Event 1054:
The processing of Group Policy failed. Windows could not obtain the name of a domain controller. This could be caused by a name resolution failure. Verify your Domain Name System (DNS) is configured and working correctly.
Event 1030:  The processing of Group Policy failed. Windows attempted to retrieve new Group Policy settings for this user or computer. Look in the details tab for error code and description. Windows will automatically retry this operation
at the next refresh cycle. Computers joined to the domain must have proper name resolution and network connectivity to a domain controller for discovery of new Group Policy objects and settings. An event will be logged when Group Policy is successful.
On the server I’ve run DCDIAG and DCDIAG /test:DNS and those all appeared to pass.

Any thoughts? I was assuming it was a Domain Controller/DNS error, but I don't know where to check next.  Could a failing piece of hardware be the culprit?

Hi,
According to the error you have posted.
A Netlogon 5719 event indicates that the client component of Netlogon was unable to locate a DC for the domain it was trying to perform an operation against.

• Win 7 dual boot with SafeBoot encryption halfway there!

EDIT: Sorry for changing the title. It used to be Need those knowledgeable with Windows (esp. 7) for dual boot input, but I had some success and didn't want to start a whole new post. See the last comment for the update!
Hi,
Disclaimer: please don't feel compelled to issue warnings regarding doing this on a work computer. I'm aware of the risks, have talked about what I do on my computer (such as wiping it and installing Linux only over my Win issued encrypted system) with a higher-up in IT that I know well, and I have spoken with IT reps about my running Linux. They don't care; they just don't support it or help. I even have an online community for Linux users at work. I'm searching for a work-around that will allow me dual boot while fully maintaining the protection my company seeks by issuing encrypted systems (i.e. replacing a proprietary encryption tool with an open source one).
I'm in a tricky situation. At work I'm issued a computer with SafeBoot, a full-disk encryption tool. On my last computer, I simply installed Arch over everything because dual booting was not possible. I really need Windows, but since I had a desktop as well for CAD usage, I used that for Win and just had Linux on the laptop. My lease just came up and I was issued a new laptop for the next three years. In addition, they upgraded the laptop so I can run CAD from it and they'll be taking my Windows desktop.
So... I'm on a mission to try to find a dual boot solution. I used to run Linux from a flash drive, but sharing data was impossible since I still can't even mount the Win partition and the flash drive isn't big enough to hold anything useful besides the OS itself (8gb). Here's my hope forward:
- Make a bootable clone of Win 7 while it's running with the hope that it's not encrypted
- Test it quite repeatedly to make sure I can boot from it
- Wipe the drive and create a partition for Win and one for Arch
- Use TrueCrypt (or some other cross-platform encryption system) for Win 7
- Restore Win 7 from my bootable clone back onto the encrypted partition on the laptop HD
- Install Arch with LUKS/dm-crypt
- Be extremely happy and celebrate.
Does anyone know if the first steps in particular are feasible? I have used Carbon Copy Cloner on my Mac and it can make a bootable clone while the system is running. It's actually quite awesome because you have an incremental backup solution that youc an also boot from in a pinch in case you need to do something to your HD that can't be done when it's mounted. Much faster than booting from the OS X install disk.
I've been looking for an equivalent on Win and not happy so far. Macrium sounded promising, but when running it, it seems to want to backup to some kind of image file, not simply do a file copy of everything on the drive. Perhaps this will work... I'm just not sure. I also looked at DriveImageXML, but am not sure about that either. I'm using the built-in Win backup tool right now and will see if that works.
Does anyone know of a tool that will do this? CloneZilla or any Linux tool will not work because a literal clone (like dd) made while the computer is off is worthless. I need a decrypted backup.
Lastly, any other general input? Does this seem feasible?
Thanks!

Wow! I can't believe this is working. The rough gist of it is that I think I've found a method that won't require virtualization or fiddling with SafeBoot or having to jump through hoops to either clone while running (to have a decrypted clone), or try to do something like THIS (this is terrifying, since it involves making a clone with dd while it's encrypted and then restoring the SafeBoot encrypted mbr somewhere else later). The gist is like so:
- Use Win7 built in partition editor to shrink it down as far as possible. For me, this was down to about 130G (out of ~230G)
- Use same tool to creat two additional partitions: one for Arch and one for TrueCrypt
- Used Partition Wizard Home Edition to change the type to 0x83 (very necessary)
- Reboot, install Arch to /dev/sda2
- Install grub to /dev/sda2, not to the MBR!
- Reboot into Windows and used EasyBCD to add an archLinux entry to the Win7 boot options
- Rebooted and tried it out!
- I'm logged into Arch right now!
This is actually quite incredible. I think this is about the best I could have asked for. I get to avoid any issues with replacing SafeBoot with something else (even though I'm not sure my IT group really cares [1]), I get a dedicated Linux install, which runs much better and cleaner than virtualizing, and I can share all my stuff via the TrueCrypt partition [2].
I'll keep everyone posted and will probably end up adding this to the wiki. I think this is a win-win situation. [3]
Footnotes:
[1] For example, users are permitted to use their personal Macs at work... but they're not encrypted. People just bring them in and use them. They're obviously not protected, so why would IT care if my computer is encrypted with TrueCrypt vs. SafeBoot when they let people run around with no encryption? Not to mention, as said above, I've talked about my doings with an IT higher-up and he's never said anything of caution about not having encryption -- just suggested I routinely run ClamAV. I did get some strong words of caution on SuperUser. I guess everyone can be happy this way.
[2] I have yet to set this up, but think it will be far easier than what I just went through!
[3] The only thing I'm bummed about is that Win7 couldn't be resized any smaller because of unmovable safeboot related files during defrag. It's only using 30G of space right now, but wouldn't shrink below 129G. It doesn't really matter -- I have 30G for Linux and about 80G for my storage. My storage isn't more than 11G for all my work documents right now, so I don't really anticipate blowing through another 70G anytime soon.

• Crazy Guild Wars/WINE/Graphics Problem

Recently I've gotten back into Guild Wars (and subsequently dropped off the forums like a stone), but I have a very bizarre issue with it. Every so often, and I have no idea why because error reports haven't turned up anything, I get a graphics failure, the monitor turns off as if it isn't receiving a signal or one of the sync rates is too high, and a fan in my computer, presumably on the graphics card, becomes audibly louder and faster. This only happens with Guild Wars on WINE, nothing else will cause it to occur. Also, it doesn't happen at precise intervals or after a certain number of hours, it seems to be completely random. I've had it happen on load, 5 minutes in, a few hours in, and on a day off where I was just being lazy, I had ten straight hours of gameplay and no problems whatsoever. I've gone over all of my logs, and absolutely nothing is turning up to clue me into the problem.
My computer is quite new, I purchased it this April. It has an Nvidia 9600GT graphics card, the drivers for which have been out of beta for a while now and have acted quite well with everything else, including Quake 4, ET:QW, Prey on WINE, and Mount&Blade on WINE. Previously I was using the Nvidia installer to handle the driver, but both it and the Arch package have the same problem, in case there was any doubt there.
Any help is very much appreciated, and while the problem may not best be suited to these forums, even getting the slightest hint as to what could be going on would be great help, as I'm completely in the dark on this one.

Launching the game with WINEDEBUG=+all wine Gw.exe causes so much debugging information to pass that it slows the entire process to a crawl. It took two full minutes to even display the GW "connecting to ArenaNet" window to appear, much less connect and complete, something which usually takes 1-3 seconds max. It would be impossible to test the game itself properly, if at all, with that option set.
I can also confirm now that using the xorg.conf fix won't solve the problem, as 10 minutes in I had another blackout. That fix seems to be for a much older 5200 card on a CRT though, the solution for which is not going to mesh as well with a 9600 running a 22" LCD.
It could also be an issue with the monitor now that I think of it, which is an LG 226WTY @1680x1050, but I have my doubts that it lies at the bottom of all this, as I've heard MPD stop playing when I've had it on and this problem has occured, so I think it has something to do with the system itself, be it kernel or internal hardware, more than the monitor.
Thanks for the ideas though, too bad they didn't solve the issue.
P.S. The more I think about it this might very well be a kernel+WINE issue, as I'm also unable to ctrl+alt+backspace out of X to the command line when the blackout occurs, which could mean the keyboard is being disabled by a kernel panic of some kind, thus causing the problem with the graphics card. Nothing has appeared in the logs though, which is odd.

• [Solved] Project64 (which runs via wine) won't start w/ an error

I'm on 64 bit arch laptop trying to run project64, but the app won't start.  I installed project64 from the repo and it pulled wine as a dependancy.  Upon firsst-run I was prompted to install wine gecko and hit the install button.  This froze and I force-closed the window which then prompted me to select a language.  I got a "Program Error" message saying that pj64 encountered a serious problem and needs to close.  I then found and installed the wine_gecko package, but this didn't solve the problem.
The console outputs the following:
wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0xffffffff at address 0x7cdb9eda (thread 0009), starting debugger...
Someone please help me.

Make sure you have the correct lib32 drivers for your graphics card, since wine is a 32 bit app. For example,m for nvidia you need the lib32-nvidia-utils package. This seems to be more of a general Wine issue rather than an issue with project64 though, but hopefully installing the correct package should help. I maintain the project64 AUR package though, so I feel like I should do my best to help, and possuibly imporve my package too if something's wrong with it Also, if that doesn't work, try running this, it will give more terminal output that could be useful (by default it uses WINEDEBUG=-all to get rid of the extra debug info and stuff wine outputs by default, but it might be helpful here):
wine "$HOME"/.project64/Project64.exe
Also, IMO, all the Mupen64plus frontends seem to be kinda crappy right now (cutemupen crashesd so I can't even try that one out...), but the one I'va had the best luck with is wxmupen64plus-hg, so give that a shot, though it does still have some issues sometimes, but it lets you configure the controllers and stuff, so that's good And if you felt like using it, you could install version 1.5 (it's in AUR too, but I haven't tested it), since version 1.5 has a GUI and it always worked great when I used to use that

• Wine 1.1.20 broke my WoW

So I made another major system update and as usual something broke in my system. Thank god it wasn't Xorg or KDE itself, those would be really bad.
Unfortunely tho it broke WoW on wine. Now wine takes ages to load the launcher that has graphic glitches then takes ages^10 to load the loading screen where I finally noticed it LAGS terribly by watching what seemed like 1 FPS dragon animation.
I tried Peggle on wine to see if it was nvidia problem maybe but worked fine so I guess it's a wine issue? Does anyone have the same problem or know how to fix this?
Thanks

Thanks guys but its incredibly slow to compile the package
However that reminded me I could downgrade to a package in cache so I downgraded to wine 1.1.18 (the last one I used) and the issue persisted so I figured it was nvidia drivers issue and tried to downgraded it but can't because it requires a downgrade of the kernel as well.
So I think it can also be an issue with the kernel? I really did a major upgrade today (1GB download 2GB installed) so it can be anything :\

• SCOM agent install fails Error 80070035 - the network path was not found

I have deployed SCOM 2012 agents to most servers (2008, 2008 R2, 2012, 2012R2) in our estate but some either fail to install or are not monitored. I assume the two problems are related, but for now I am concentrating on the servers that fail completely.
Installation is from the Discovery Wizard and I have about 20 servers that fail of various server versions.
So looking at one specific server that is failing to install the agent - a 2008 standard service pack 2
The firewall in on and file and printer sharing is enabled for domain, remote administration is enabled for domain
I added a specific rule to allow TCP 5723 and 5724
DCOM is enabled
I can Ping the target server from the SCOM server by both name and FQDN - both return the same IP and our DNS server has only one entry for this server
I can browse to the admin share \\server\C$ from the SCOM Server, using the same account that I specify for the agent install that is a domain admin with rights on this server (and on the other servers the agent
did install to) and the server has plenty of disk space available
I am not sure what else to look at so would welcome any ideas
Thanks

Hi Petro,
I have a Agent installation failure cheat sheet, For your error 80070035 it is said to perform a manual installation.
So i would like to understand which version of SCOM is this ? 2007 R2 or 2012 or 2012 r2 ?
Also check if your agents have the WMI service started and enabled ?
Also if yours is a SCOM 2007 R2 do you have a RMS & MS in your management group ? If yes then Pushing the agent installation from MS may cause such issue. So would suggest you push the installation from RMS.
Also check if your Network connectivity meets the minimum requirement as recommended by SCOM. Below is applicable for Both SCOM 2007 R2 & SCOM 2012 & 2012 R2.
Component A
Component B
Minimum Requirement
Root management server or management server
Agent
64 Kbps
Root management server or management server
Agentless
1024 Kbps
Root management server or management server
Database
256 Kbps
Also check if you have any Anti virus / Firewall which is blocking the install / communication. If yes disabe or add the "Monitoringhost.exe to the safe list or what your feature is.
Check if you have another IP assigned to the NIC card and remove it tempraurly andchecl.
Also post the event logs of the Agents which are in not monitored state for analysis.

if the management server loses connectivity with the remote computer, the temporary files may not be removed. Therefore, the LockFileTime.txt may remain in the folder on the remote computer. When the management server next tries to perform an agent installation,
the management server detects the lock file. Therefore, the management agent installation is unsuccessful.

• Troubleshooting 9.3.1 Data Load

I am having a problem with a data load into Essbase 9.3.1 from a flat, pipe-delimited text file, loading via a load rule. I can see an explicit record in the file but the results on that record are not showing up in the database.
* I made a special one-off file with the singular record in question and the data loads properly and is reflected in the database. The record itself seems to parse properly for load.
* I have searched the entire big file (230Mb) for the same member combination, but only come up with this one record, so it does not appear to be a "last value in wins" issue.
* Most other data (610k+ rows) appears to be loading properly, so the fields, in general, are being properly parsed out in the load rule. Additionally, months of a given item are on separate rows, and other rows of the same item are loading properly and being reflected in the database. As well as other items are being loaded properly in the months where this data loads to, so, it is not a metadata-not-existing issue.
* The load is 100% successful according to the non-existent error file. Also, loading the file interactively results in the file showing up under "loaded successfully" (no errors).
NOTE:
The file's last column does contain item descriptions which may include special characters including periods and quotes and other special characters. The load rule moves the description field to the earlier in the columns, but the file itself has it last.
QUESTION:
Is it possible that the a special character (quote??) in a preceding record is causing the field parsing to include the CR/LF, and therefore the next record, into one record? I keep thinking that if the record seems to fine alone, but is not fine where it sits amongst other records, that it may have to do with preceding or subsequent records.
THOUGHTS??

Thanks Glenn. I was too busy looking for explicit members that I neglected thinking through implicit members. I guess I was thinking that implied members don't work if you have a rules file that parses out columns...that a missing member would just error out a record instead of using the last known value. In fact, I thought that (last known value) only worked if you didn't use a load rule.
I would prefer some switch in Essbase that requires keys in all fields in a load rule or allows last known value.

• WRVS4400N Any chance linksys will fix the bugs?

So, do you guys think there is any hope that linksys will ever fix the firmware on this router? I have to buy some more VPN capable routers and quite honestly I'm debating if I should just find a way to return the ones I already have and buy them all of them from some other company. I'm kind of losing my faith in linksys on this one. I should have never started upgrading from the old ones, people wanted N though. Turns out the N on these things have worse performance than the G on the old ones. And VPN, I don't even know why they bothered with that since it doesn't work. All the interface bugs are pretty annoying as well. FTP going out every couple of hours is fun too.. I would have been happy to fill out a ticket system in proven reproducible bugs. But I'm not going to go through the support idiocy just to 'maybe' get something to the engineers on the other side of them. I'm sort of starting to give up because I need something that works as advertised and I needed it months ago when I originally got these.

Well the FTP issue has been very frustrating for me to say the least. I figured I would place another call to support to get an update. After 1 hour 20 minutes on hold, call backs, and transfers to Level 2 support I was disconnected. I gave them 3 hours to call me back. (they had 2 contact numbers for me.) I called back for another 30 minute wait only to have the tech start the flow chart process of troubleshooting. I informed her I had already been through all the suggested remedies such as lower the MTU, play around with QOS, and IPS. I said "listen this is odvously a known issue since there are 6500+ hits when you google "wrvs4400n ftp" which many link to this forum. She told me they dont know of this issue. I asked her if she read the Linksys forums to which she responded yes. I then said I guess you are not allowed to confirm this issue. She told me that the programmers may be working on an updated firmware, but she knew nothing about it, (but was very quick to have me start to play with settings.)
I would feel much better if they would say we know there are issues with the wrvs4400n. We are working on an updated firmware to remedy the issues.
I dont have the high pitch wine issue and I am not using vpn so my only beef is with FTP.
