Wired pc and DSL

Some of these posts look like they relate. But, I can't get my Verizon Wireless DSL service to work with the Airport Extreme on my wired PC. It works on my Wireless iBook. A Westell Wirespeed DSL modem connects to the Airport Extreme. Any ideas? Can it be done easily somehow? Verizon doesn't do Apple, Apple doesn't do PC, and no one seems to be able to help.
Thanks.

Make sure that:
- the DSL modem is connected to the Base Station's WAN port (that's the one labelled with the "circle of dots" icon)
- the PC is configured to obtain an IP address and DNS addresses automatically using DHCP. If it was previously connected directly to your DSL modem it will have been configured to connect using PPPoE - you need to change that. Do a web search for instructions if you don't know how to do this

  • Router for cable AND DSL at the same time?

Can I get cable and DSL service and buy a router that will run both at the same time? I'm looking at the Linksys RV016, RV042 and RV082 routers; and the D-Link DI-LB604 Load Balancing Router. It looks like they'll do this but the webpages don't say that clearly. My Comcast cable service is fast (up to 6Mbps downloads) when it's working and the neighbors are asleep, but the speed drops to around 2kbps at other times. Qwest DSL is guaranteed 256Kbps.
Also, is there a wi-fi transceiver that detects and uses unused bandwidth on neighbors' Internet connections? My house picks up 7 neighbors' wi-fi transceivers. If we're all on the same cable service it wouldn't matter if I transferred bandwidth to a neighbor's service. But if some houses have DSL and some have cable, then the DSL users could get extra speed in the mornings when the cable is fast. The cable users would get extra speed in the evening when cable is slower than DSL. Everybody wins.

    no problems.
There is a priority order when multiple networking interfaces are available.
Ethernet is higher than Airport in the order.
If both ethernet and Airport interfaces are connected to the network, then ethernet becomes the primary networking interface.
If nothing is plugged into the ethernet port, then Airport will get control.

  • Not Connecting to Wired Network and Forcing the loss of all Connections on the Home Network

Just got a new G550 laptop  w/Win 7 OS. Tried to connect to wired router and got message "network cable not connected". Recycled laptop and router and came up with router connected to the laptop. Same message after search and identify steps finished. I then noticed I lost connection to the net/router with my other home networked units as well! Tried another cable, same results along with losing the entire home network connection. Disconnected the G550 from home network, via the cable, and the home network reconnected without any intervention. Tried another reboot directly connected to the cable modem, no go there either!
I also rebooted with the wireless search shutoff and got the same problems as on the wired attempt. Thought it might have been the NIC card so I exchanged the system back at the store.  Sorry, same problem!!

I have a very similar problem... New Lenovo G550, running Vista Home Premium 64-bit. Right from the start it causes my TrendNet TEW-432BRP router to crash every 10 seconds. I bought a new DLink WBR-1310 and experience the same problem. Connecting to either router through either a wireless connection or a LAN cable connection causes the router to crash every 10 seconds. The router crashes, reboots, establishes a connection with the laptop, communication starts and then the router crashes again.
    I am looking for help.

  • Wired keyboard and mouse

I am interested in buying a wired keyboard and mouse with the Apple cinema display. I am in Korea. I went to the Apple site and it just advertises the wireless versions. I do not like wireless versions because I do not like to mess around with batteries. I just want to plug in and go. Where can I get the wired versions? How do they plug into the display? Can I use both in a USB hub and then plug the USB hub into the display?

    Apple is still selling them.

You don't need a USB hub. The keyboard contains a USB hub and has two USB ports. Plug the keyboard into the display and the mouse into the keyboard. The display has two USB ports, so if you get a non-Apple keyboard with no USB ports, you can plug both the keyboard and mouse into the display.

  • Wired Network and a Wireless Mac

I currently have a PC and Mac Mini hooked up to a D-Link DI-604 wired network and am considering purchasing an iBook that I would like to go wireless with.
Of course, right now my internet connection comes off my cable modem and into my router and I am unsure how to add a wireless network without having to upgrade all of my computers with wireless cards, in other words, maintain the wired network but add one wireless computer.
My cable company tells me if I add another modem that they will double my fee (two modems = two subscriptions) but they have no problem with me hooking up to 7 computers off a single modem.
So I guess my question is, can I plug the modem into the D-Link router and then run a cable from the router to an Airport Express and then wireless off to the ibook?
If the answer is yes, will I maintain my sanity during the attempt?
    Thank you.

Yes, you could cable an Airport Express to one of the spare LAN ports on the D-Link router.
However, a far less expensive alternative is to simply replace your existing D-Link router for a newer wireless router - keeping in mind most so-called "wireless routers" also provide up to four ethernet LAN ports for connections to non-wireless computers.

  • Loading variations between T1 and DSL

When I test my website using the simulate download I get
different results for T1 and DSL. T1 loads the site perfectly,
    however DSL skips certain components.
This is the site in question: www.meyerhoffer.com
My client says that they experience this error after clearing
their cache when using Safari, however upon refreshing the page the
    site works fine.
My layers are structured with functions and actions on top.
The movie is set to load bottom up. I've tried numerous adjustments
to the layers as well as the code, however I have had no luck
whatsoever. If anyone cares to take a moment to look at the flash
source I will gladly provide it. Thank you.

    Thanks Grant.
I read the article and it was of some help. Reference TCP/IP control panel settings. I called Commspeed support and they gave me their three current DNS numbers. I typed them per article and nothing - dead. Called them back and they gave me the typical winbox answers "No hable apple" so left to my own devices and considering the stratigies suggested in the article I did two things.
I opened the TCP/IP control panel and deleted the Name Server Address - As they are supposed to be assigned by the server. There was also a check box that said use 802.3 which was checked. I unchecked it and tried the internet. Blam it was right there. I don't know which stratigy worked as I did them simultaneously.
Still don't know about upgrading to 9.2.
    Thanks again,

  • Wired PC and Wireless Laptops

We just got a wireless router for the cable internet we have for a wired desktop. Our laptops are picking up the internet just fine. But how in the world do you set up a network with a wired desktop and the two laptops? We were told we could access files and printers from the desktop using the laptops but no one will expand on how to do that. Do you have to actually hardwire the laptops to the router or something in order to create a network between the wired desktop and wireless laptops? The guys at the computer store were standing there offering to charge us $200 to solve the problem. Can someone please help?

The desktop does have an ethernet port and is currently connected to the internet via that port. However, every time I try to connect the desktop to another computer by setting up a new connection, it doesn't give me the option of using the router as the hub to connect all my computers together. The microsoft website talks mainly about wiring all the comps directly to the computer but I'm trying to be able to access the desktop wirelessly from the laptop. the room the desktop is in is way way too hot to work in comfortably, so we were hoping to access it from an air conditioned room via the laptop. I'm just at a loss.

  • Do I require wired mouse and keyboard to bootcamp on imac 2012 with bluetooth mouse and keyboard?

have just purchased a late 2012 imac which I want to bootcamp. Have read on some posts that during the process you lose the use of mouse and keyboard as they are bluetooth and windows does not have the drivers, so you need a wired mouse and keyboard to bootcamp the imac.
Is this correct as there is nothing in the Apple bootcamp guide mentioning this.
would appreciate some assistance on this point.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
In theory, you don't need a USB mouse and keyboard because the iMac can detect the Bluetooth ones during startup (difficult but it can). If you are new, I recommend you to get a USB mouse and keyboard to install Windows in Boot Camp, so installation will be easier and you won't have any problem to start up in OS X later.
With the USB keyboard  and mouse, it's as simple as following the Apple's steps to install Windows on your Mac > http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_10.8.pdf It's very important to download the Windows support software, which you will need to make Windows work correctly

  • Have MacPro wired to Verizon DSL; how do I add MacBook Pro wireless?

I have a MacPro connected with an Ethernet cable to a Westell WireSpeed modem that is plugged into the wall phone jack served by Verizon DSL. The MacPro does not have an Airport card. My wife wants to connect her MacBook Pro with built-in Airport Extreme 802.11n wirelessly to the internet.
I've never used a router before. Would an Airport Extreme Base Station let me operate the MacPro wired and the MacBook Pro wireless simultaneously? If not, how can I do it?

Yes, the AirPort Extreme or any other vendor's wireless router with a built-in Ethernet switch will provide for both wired and wireless clients simultaneously.

  • Losing conection between wrt110 and DSL modem

I've had the wrt110 for about a week and everything has worked flawlessly, until now. I use the wrt110 to connect one laptop and one wii, wirelessly to the internet via a dsl modem. the problem I have is that every time I close the laptop, I lose my internet connection. I'm still connected to the wrt110, but cannot connect to the internet.  also the internet light is still lit on the modem, so I assume that the modem is still recognizing an internet connection. the only way that I can get reconnected to the internet is to 1. disconnect the wrt110 from the modem 2. reset the modem 3. reset the wrt110 4. reconnect the wrt110 to the modem. then I can connect to the internet just fine until I close the laptop, then the problem starts over. please help

I think it might be the problem with the routers firmware, have you tried to upgrade the firmware of your router, If not then Go to website linksysbycisco.com/downloads.........insert model no of your router in serach tab......select proper version of your router........download the firmware file......save that file on desktop...
Follow these steps to upgrade the firmware on the device : -
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on a computer hard wired to the router...
In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1...Leave the Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...
Click on the 'Administration' tab- Then click on the 'Firmware Upgrade' sub tab- Here click on 'Browse' and browse the .bin firmware file and click on "Upgrade"...
Wait for few seconds until it shows that "Upgrade is successful"  After the firmware upgrade, click on "Reboot" and you will be returned back to the same page OR it will say "Page cannot be displayed".
    Now reset your router :
Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...
Once you configure all the settings on your router, below are some wireless settings for your router and i think this might work perfectly fine.
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on your wired computer(desktop). In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1 and press Enter...Leave username blank & in password use admin in lower case...
For Wireless Settings, please do the following : -
    Click on the Wireless tab
    - Here select manual configuration...Wireless Network mode should be mixed...
    - Provide a unique name in the Wireless Network Name (SSID) box in order to differentiate your network from your neighbours network...
    - Set the Radio Band to Standard-20MHz and change the Standard channel to 11-2.462GHz...Wireless SSID broadcast should be Enabled and then click on Save Settings...
Please make a note of Wireless Network Name (SSID) as this is the Network Identifier...
    For Wireless Security : -
Click on the Sub tab under Wireless > Wireless Security...
Change the Wireless security mode to WEP, Encryption should be 64 bit.Leave the passphrase blank, don't type in anything...
Under WEP Key 1 type in any 10 numbers please(numbers only and no letters eg: your 10 digit phone number) and click on save settings...
Please make a note of WEP Key 1 as this is the Security Key for the Wireless Network...
    Click on Advanced Wireless Settings
Change the Beacon Interval to 75 >>Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304, Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 >>Click on "Save Settings"...
Now see if you can locate your Wireless Network and attempt to connect...

  • Cisco 877 as access point and DSL router - 2 subnets

I have been using an 877 to provide DSL access and wireless access point from two separate wired subnets. The idea is that traffic from one subnet will be routed to the DSL connection. The other subnet provides a bridged connection to wireless clients. Both subnets being isolated from each other. In the former case the router acts as DHCP server, whilst in the latter case a separate DHCP server is used. Despite all apparently working, recent introduction of a wireless client did not work and seemed to be acquring a DHCP lease from the router rather than the external DHCP server. It seems that broadcast traffic from the router DHCP server was traversing to the wrong interfaces, despite (I hope) only the wireless and the second wired subnet being in the bridge group.
I would be grateful if anyone can throw any light on this, the salient parts of my config are enclosed below. I have anonymised the public addreses using q1.q2.q3 therein. Many thanks.
