Wired / Wireless Bandwidth Seems Limited. Why?

Hi folks,
Apologies if this has been asked already, but I flipped through the forum & found nothing, and the search appears to be offline.
I have many items plugged into my AEBS, but have noticed the bandwidth (even wired).... lacking.
A concrete scenario:
Slingbox wired=> AEBS wireless(pure n)=> *Macbook Air*
I cannot get more than about 182kbps in the stream. I've even tried a wired connection at the other end so it was entirely wired.
Troubleshooting I've done:
1. Called Sling and they tried streaming remotely; same result
2. Plugged a PC in and did it all wired... same result
3. Reset the Slingbox to factory... same result
4. Reset the AEBS firmware to factory... same result
So far, most of what I've done points to the AEBS having issues with pushing out data at reasonably fast speeds.
Any recommendations would be very much appreciated!!
Thank you,
Rob.

hi,
i get 300 as speed if the devices are in good range of the airport extreme. My imac only reports 270.
I have 1 AE and 3 Airport Express.
The Airport Extreme and 2 of the A.Express run at 5 GHz, and the one A.Express at 2.4.
That said I have tested and tested, and the only differentiation I saw was when the Airport Express, for example were at the edge of the extreme, and then the speed falls off. So my Macs all report 300 or 270 with any given device.

  • Bandwidth seems limited to 10M on Cisco RV320

Just installed a RV320 to a 50Mb downstream 5Mb upstream switch. With previous wireless routers I can get 30-50MB downstream speed and 5M upstream. The same happens when I connect directly to the switch. However when I try to access with the same computer through the RV320 I am throttled it seems to very close to 10Mb bandwidth. Connection from router to switch is 1000Mb, connection to the computer is 100Mb so this shouldn't be the problem. Bandwidth management is set to 6000 upstream and 60000 downstream. Any suggestions? Thanks. (firmware upgraded to latest)

It must be a configuration issue, or a faulty unit, as I'm getting 56Mbps down and 9Mbps with the RV320 here on my desk (should be put into production use later today) on a FTTC/VDSL line that we've had rated at 60Mbps down and 10Mbps up. I'm also running the latest firmware.

  • Need to know the download size of an app as bandwidth is limited why is this not part of the ACC info?

This should be part of the further info on any app that is stated as update. For those of us who are on limited download on a monthly basis this is IMPORTANT. Please, please give this info. Thank you!

    Hi,
    When using
    data: l_cnt type i.
    l_cnt = xstrlen( g_zip_content ) .
xstrlen will return only in byte mode and not in character mode.
Thus the value l_cnt = 12112 which you got is in bytes which can be used to check your condition.

  • Remote can't find iTunes on mix wired/wireless network

I am trying to control music from a iMac running iTunes using the iPhone Remote app. I've previously done this successfully with a wireless only network (using the Airport Express wifi to join my existing wifi network etc).
However, since introducing D-Link Homeplugs into my network, I am unable to 'see' the iTunes library from the Remote app when I connect wirelessly to the airport express.
My hardware is configured as follows:-
*Netgear Router (wireless disabled) -> Homeplug power network -> iMac running iTunes*
And elsewhere on the Homeplug network, I have:
H*omeplug power network -> Airport Express [set up as wireless access point]*.
If I connect the Express to the iTunes machine directly - leaving the wireless access details the same - it all works fine. If I move the Airport Express and reconnect over the Homeplug network, the Remote fails to 'see' the library, although I can still send music over the network (using the iTunes interface on the iMac) to the remote speakers.
My network uses the router as a DHCP (range 192.168.0.x mask 255.255.255.0), Airport Express is connected to Homeplug ethernet with a static IP (in the same range) and provides wireless access (unsecured for now while i get this working). The iMac has a static IP (in the same range). If I swap the iMac for a PC (XP - using DHCP from the router for IP), I get the same result. If I use an iPhone network application to view the network (connected by the wifi access point on the AX) then I can see all the machines on my network as I would expect.
To reiterate, if I cable this network directly (either AX->iMac or AX->hub->iMac) then it works. As soon as I go AX->Homeplug power network->iMac then the Remote app loses sight of the library.
I wouldn't expect any firewall on the wired->wireless networks on my router (a Sky branded Netgear 934g). I also didn't think that the Homeplugs would block.
So does anyone have any ideas why the Remote application loses sight of my iTunes library when connecting via Airport Express cabled into a Homeplug ethernet network ?
Thanks for any help because I miss my music
    cheers,
    Tim

  • HELP: MacBook cannot get IP from DHCP wired/wireless

    Hi, everyone.
I recently bought a TP-LINK TL-WR340G route and added it into my home network.
My iBook and PCs are albe to connect to network and internet, but my MacBook even cannot get a IP from the DHCP. I tried both wired & wireless connection.
I've tried to give my MacBook a static IP address, after that it can ping to the gateway and other devices on the network, and the DNS is working fine. But the MacBook just cannot connect to internet.
My MacBook can connect to internet at my office and my relative's house.
Please help to fix the problem. Thanks a lot.

    What is the device type?
I have seen this with 4 android 5 devices.  I think its something to due with misconfig on android and mfp settings.  Although I'm not sure why I have hundreds of other android 5 devices working ok.  I see this same when I debug one of the devices that is stuck in DHCP_REQ

  • Solution to use Airprint across subnets wired/wireless

A lot of companies are trying to figure out how to setup airprint to print
in the workplace, wired+wireless across subnets.
We finally figured it out with some DNS magic and a CUPS server.
I have documented the solution at a live document hosted at

Hopefully it helps a few folks.

You will want to make sure your APs can route from where ever you install them to the WLC managment address.
How APs find the controller can happen a few different ways:
    1) DNS A record
    2) Layer 2 broadcast (which you seen already)
    3) IP Route Forward
    4) DHCP Option 43
    5) Manual Prime the AP
Most folks lead with option 43.

if you check the config guide you will explain the other processes.

You can only add songs to your iOS device from iTunes via Wi-Fi sync or via your cable, not Bluetooth.

That's an entirely different issue, unrelated to your iOS devices.

We got a new Apple TV for Christmas and it works wonderful. However, my question is this. We are on a satelitte internet system and our bandwidth is limited. Can anyone tell me what effect it will have on using up my 10 megs of bandwidth? If I run over the 10 mgs, the service either slows way down until it is reset on the first of the next month or I have to purchase additional bandwidth and it can get expensive.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

If you only have a 10MB limit on the Internet connection you might as well not have Internet access and certainly should not attempt to stream anything.
If the limit is 10GB, then you will need to be careful with streaming as most video is 1-3GB for a one hour show.

  • Multipmultiple Airport Extreme Base Stations: WDS Or "Extend Wireless Network" To Have Wired -- Wireless Bridge?

    Hello there!
I've been looking for this info, but have as yet been unable to find it. Here's my scenario:
I have two Airport Extreme Base Stations (both are dual band) and 3 airport expresses. The main internet connection in my house is in one room, where I have an AEBS as the main wireless router. In another room, I have a bunch of ethernet-only devices. I'd like to use the 2nd AEBS in this room, plug the ethernet devices into it and have the 2nd AEBS act as a wired <--> wireless bridge (connected to the same wireless network as the 1st AEBS). I've attempted this via "extend a wireless network," but the ethernet devices don't get past the AEBS they're plugged into. Should I instead be implementing WDS?
I mention the airport expresses as I'd like to have airtunes & wireless signal in other areas, but would like to keep the set-up as simple as possible (i.e., not config the AXes for WDS unless it's required).
Thanks in advance for any help!

Unlike the 802.11n AirPort Express Base Station (AXn), the 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) cannot be configured as a wireless Ethernet bridge.
However, there are at least two ways to configure it to provide wired clients access:
Connect the second AEBSn back to the first by Ethernet; reconfigure the second AEBSn as a bridge and disable its wireless radios, or
Reconfigure both AEBSns into an extended wireless network. For 802.11n AirPorts, this would be called a dynamic WDS. The AEBSn, connected to the Internet would be the "main" base station and it would only require that you enable the "Allow this network to be extended" option in the AirPort Utility. The extending AEBSn would need to be configured with the option, Wireless Mode = Extend a wireless network, enabled.
In both configurations, the second AEBSn's Ethernet ports would be enabled for wired clients.

  • Increasing Wireless Bandwidth

    Hi,
I'm looking to combine three 54Mbps Wireless radios to increase wireless bandwidth, load balancing and redundancy. My intention was to create an etherchannel using the connected Cisco 2960 switch ports but I have read this is not a recommended solution. Could anyone provide details of a recommended solution and the required devices? Thanks in advance for your help.

If you're in a L2 scenario with lots of VLANs, then you can setup your three bridges and push different VLANs over different bridges - it's crude but it works. Obviously you'll need to run spanning tree!
If you want to do this properly though, you should be using 2.4GHz & 5GHz, not just one or the other.
Failing that, you could use other more dedicated equipment like Laser Links, or go to a manufacturer that specialises in high-capacity / high-reliability bridge links, as this kind of thing isn't really on Cisco's current portfolio.

  • WRT54GL - just today it won't keep wired/wireless connections HELP Please

This router is less that a year old and just today it won't keep wired/wireless connections unless I reset the router and sometimes within 5 mins of a reset, it's out again.  I can go into the Admin/Status page of the router and DCHP release/renew the IP from Cox and that works the same as a reset of the modem.
Can anyone give me an idea what this could be?  Cox looked at the Motorola modem and saw that it was connected for 3 hrs (3 hrs prior I rebooted the modem thinking that was my issue) and they didn't see anything out of the ordinary.
I have the latest firmware installed.
Message Edited by u43a on 05-25-200704:38 PM

Are you using any peer-to-peer (P2P) software?  If so, this is a known cause for router slow downs and disconnections.  Go into the P2P software, and reduce the number of connections that the software can make.

  • E1200 slow wired & wireless speed through L2TP

I have L2TP connection. Without the router, right through the cable, I have 35 Mbps download and 70 Mbps upload.
Through the E1200 wired & wireless I have a huge speed reduction to 5-14 Mbps download/upload.
I have the latest firmware and I did reset it after the update.
I read a lot of information on this topic and a lot of people write that this router just can't handle higher speed through L2TP.
Is it true? Could it be fixed?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

If you only get 5-14Mbps download/upload speed through the router, which is far beyond the rate without it then, I have to say that the router has issues. You can try to lower down the MTU settings to 1460 then do the test again using speedtest.net.If that does not resolve the issue, I suggest, get a new router, preferably a gigabit one.

Wireless is "always on" with the AirPort Extreme. There are no settings to "time out" wireless on the AirPort Extreme. Those settings would be adjusted on each individual computer.

  • Intermittent NW problems wired/wireless

    Hi,
My iMac experiences some intermittent NW problems.
    Configuration:
iMac is connected (wired) to a USR router which is on its turn connected to my ADSL modem/router.
    Symptoms:
Every now and then (couple of time per day) I'm not able to access the Internet. The internal NW is still OK: I can access both of my routers. When this happens I see that iStat Pro shows that the External IP is being updated. Which is strange, because my laptop which is connected to the same USR router is still able to continue to access the Internet at the same time. So no problem with the external IP address. I checked the modem/router at the time of the drop-out, but that was fine.
I tried using the same UTP cable to connect my laptop iso iMac, still no problem. I tried it connecting the iMac wireless to my router, still the same issue.
I returned the iMac to the service center for having it analyzed, but as expected they didn't experience any issue.
Is there anybody else with the same problem? At first I thought it would be a faulty NW i/f or driver, but as it happens with both the wired/wireless i/f I should think of something else.
    Thanks.

    Hi Gringeiro,
Are you using WEP or WPA wireless security on your router?  I would recommend WPA2 with AES, well, if you want to connect it wirelessly.  Also, it will help if you set a static IP address on the printer.  You can do this by typing the printer's IP address into the address bar of your browser.  Select the Network tab, then look for IPV4 under the Wired or Wireless section, depending upon how you have it connected.  There should be an option to "Suggest Manual IP".  If not, type IPCONFIG from the command prompt (Start/Run cmd) to get your Subnet and Gateway addresses.
If I have solved your issue, please feel free to provide kudos and make sure you mark this thread as solution provided.
