Wireless Connectivity can't be maintained for HP2540 Printer

Printer worked fine using my own home router for 2 years. HP2540 printer -  firmware rev CP1FN1333AR. Win 8.1 OS  Recently switched to service where ISP provides router and printer will not maintain connectivity beyond a single print job. Have 1) reset printer and router via power downs - several times 2) confirmed latest HP printer updates are on printer, 3) run HP Scan Doctor s/w and connected via USB cable to load new network settings 4) 'uninstalled' and resinstalled printer on PC and network 5) successfully printed HP Network Config Page following a wireless install. Connectivity then drops and Scan Doctor indicates 'no connnected printer' and refers back to USB and wireless install routines, neither of which has fixed problem. All net settings (IP Addresses for printer, gateway etc look OK, SSID matches net name, sig strength is good, channel 11 assigned. Bottom of Gen'l Information section of HP Net Config page indicates Internet 'Not Connected' and has a warning 'Web Services require the printer to have a connection with Internet connectivity'. I'm only trying to print local PC generated docs however.  Have gone through most of the HP section at URL - http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02790693 for this printer, much of which is noted above. Any suggestions?

Thanks for your suggestion - I had not changed channels as HP Net config printout had indicated signal quality as '5' on a scale of 1-5. Ran a built-in Wi-Fi modem test which indicated Channel 11 (the one in use) rated 88 (100 max) on the self test, but best channel was 2 (at 94 rating). Changed to Channel 2 and dedicated an IP address (virtually the only other step I had not completed in the HP procedure) while I was in the router config section. Turned off printer and when it indicated a wireless channel had been acquired, ran HP Scan Doctor again, and rec'd 'no connected printer' msg yet again. Ran the 'advanced' Scan Doctor retry option at that point and rec'd diagostic response that 'One Note' was my selected default printer (which did not square with Control Panel indication that my HP2540 was the default. Scan Doctor offered to enable my HP2540 as the default printer and things now appaer to be working. Not sure just which of these items fixed my problem, but you deserve the credit for identifying something that I had not considered, and thus leading to the solution (either directly or indirectly). My thanks for your assistance and I will provide 'thumbs up' and 'solved' status to your post.

  • Wireless Connection - Can't choose 'By default, Join: Preferred Network'

Have just bought my partner a second hand PB G4
Am trying to get it to connect to internet and printer via airport to my existing (and working) network (G5, Airport extreme base station and ADSL modem)
On the network prefs pane of the PB the ability to select 'join Preferred network' is grey (says automatic) so I can't select the network I want
    Same in Internet Connect
Airport is turned on but says 'no network selected'
Network status pane says internet sharing is on (it isn't) and is using airport to share the connection. Status light is amber
Probably fairly basic but very frustrating. Any advice appreciated
    Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Network status pane says internet sharing is on (it
isn't) and is using airport to share the connection.

I think you may be a little confused here. Internet Sharing is for one computer to connect thru another. Let's say your G5 had two ethernet ports, one of which was directly hooked up to a DSL modem, over which it did PPPoE to your ISP. You could then use Internet Sharing to connect a second computer to the G5 via ethernet and use the G5's Internet connection.
I don't think this is your setup (although I've been very wrong in the past!). It sounds to me like everything is going wireless and the base station is the one with the Internet connection. So you don't need Internet Sharing at all.
What you need to do is to start at the beginning. Looking at Internet Connect, in the Airport tab, do you have a selection of networks? If you select your ABS, does it show good signal strength?

  • No wireless connection - can't get it to work on Satellite Pro M40

Hi First Post So hope I get it right I have Sat Pro M40 A Desktop connected to Router via Ethernet Cable Laptop used in a different room with a wireless internet connection I guess this means I had a wireless network? Re-installed Win XP and Service Pack 2 as I couldn't find Toshiba Rescue Disc Now I have no wireless or sounhd on laptop Something is obviously missing Can't remember what I am meant to do Excuse ignorance but any help would be welcome Thanks I am using the ethernet cable temporarily to get internet access on Sat Pro Thanks Derek

    Hello Derek
If some hardware components in device manager are not preinstalled properly please visit Toshiba download page under http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Support & Downloads.
There you will find all necessary drivers (WLAN and sound driver). When the WLAN card is properly installed you will be able to configure WLAN connection.

  • Wireless Connect - Can't "Log In"

Having a few issues with wireless. I have a Broadcom 94311 (revision 1) card setup using the b43 driver. On my Fedora install everything works great. I use nm-applet to connect. I am able to "connect" my University's wireless network just fine - network manager shows I'm connected, gives my IP address, my laptop's wireless light comes on, etc.
However, we are required to authenticate before being able to actually use the network. This is done by automatically redirecting to a landing page where I put in my school username and password and then wah-lah - fully connected!  Unfortunately I am not redirected to this page when using wireless under Arch. Instead I get the usual page which shows up when having no connection. Does anyone have thoughts on how to fix this?

    Sorry for the delayed reply.
That doesn't work, unfortunately, Zenlord. I wish it were so simple.
Are there any other thoughts? I'm about ready to give up. I've got this card to work in two other distros. A laptop isn't much good with wireless internet, unfortunately.
According to Conky's network monitoring and iwconfig I have a connection. However dmesg gives this:

  • If I setup a wireless network can I use Airprint on a printer that is NOT Airprint enabled?

The reason for my question is simple, my business has 20 printers and none of them are "airprint" enabled nor do they need replacing.  My reps print order forms from their vans using Canon IP or IP100 and outdated handheld devices, (these devices are bluetooth enabled and we've never had a problem printing) I want to upgrade to ipads.  I'm starting to feel this wont be possible unless I buy new printers.
Does anyone know if I can buy a cheap wireless router, create a wireless network then connect my ipad to any printer, airprint enabled or not??

Set up a wireless network and connect the lantronix box wired to the router.

  • Where can I find instructions for the "print edit" add on (after download & installation) ?

I've downloaded & installed the "print edit" add-on successfully, now I need instructions on how to use it. Is there a type of manual or other support option for this?

A good place to start is the extension's page on the Add-ons site:
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/print-edit/
Unlike many others, the author has posted pretty detailed instructions and lots of screen shots. This isn't the best format for absorbing the information because the text and images aren't integrated, but hopefully with a little flipping back and forth you can get a solid start.

  • Can't Capture Selection for Noise Print?

Hello All... I'm new to Soundbooth and have been trying to reduce hiss in my audio.  I've read up and watched tutorials on capturing the noise print etc... I drag to select part of the audio and click on "Capture Noise Print" and it seems to do this.
The problem begins  when I click on "Reduce Noise"...for some reason the whole clip is selected (turns white) and when I click on "Preview" the clip begins playing from the beginning rather than playing the Noise Print Selection.  (despite having "Use Captured Noise Print" checked in the box)
Also... I noticed when I go to "Undo" it says "Undo Clear Fade Out"  I'm not sure why...
Any suggestions on what I'm missing or doing incorrectly?

  • New 6500 E709n loses wireless connection when it or laptop sleeps... & other problems!

Just got this printer and am hoping we can get it to work because we really like it.  I believe we've done everything right - it is connected to PC via USB, and to laptop via wireless network.  Both computers are Dells running XP.  Our wireless router is a Linksys Wireless-G WRT54G.  We installed the disk on both.  Immediately after installing on the laptop by plugging in USB and then unplugging, we were able to get it to work.  We printed and scanned from both . . . UNTIL the printer went into power save mode.
When it sleeps it loses all the network connections (but will still print from PC).  Even the icons disappear from the laptop after it sleeps.  The only way to get it to work with the laptop again is to start all over, plug in the laptop, enter the WPA key again, and so on.  Then it's finebut for just a short while.  Now, when I registered my protection plan, I was on the phone with a techie guy and asked him if it's normal to have to keep entering the key every time you want to print, and he actually said that maybe I shouldn't let the printer sleep - wow! I want to conserve energy, so I may even want to shut it off, okay, and I don't feel I should have to go through this rigamarole every time I want the darn thing to just be available to the network.  Furthermore, what's the sense of having to turn "Wireless Radio" on and off all the time???
Anyway, there are other problems and the menus in the internal web browser is about as confusing as it can be.  Is the passphrase the same as a WPA key?  There's a passphrase in there which I did not enter, and I don't know what it is because it's been disguised with dots.  When I enter the WPA key on the front panel of the printer, it doesn't stick.  One thing I noticed in the instructions is to keep telephones away from it, so I moved ours (was right next to it) but it's still being ornery.
In addition, the scan function only works from the software, not as a standalone if I use the front panel.  When using the button on the front panel, sometimes it sees the laptop, sometimes it doesn't, and then it starts to scan, but a menu pops up on the computer asking to update the buttons, and then nothing happens.
Have we a clunker on our hands that should be returned, or is there a remedy?  All suggestions welcome!

Let me answer the easy stuff first:
Yes, the passphrase is the same as the WPA-PSK key.
No, it's not normal to have to re-enter the wireless security key over and over again.  Politely tell our service agent that he is mistaken on this point.
There's no sense in having to turn the radio on and off all the time to get the printer to remain on the network.
When the printer goes into power-save mode, can you still access the printer's internal web page by browsing to it's IP address?  When the printer loses wireless connectivity, can you wake the printer by pressing any of the buttons on the front panel?
I have a couple more questions:
What WRT54G HW version do you have (it'll be on the bottom label of the router)?
What version of FW does your router have?  You'll have to browse to the router's internal web page to find out.
Finally, change the WPA-PSK group key renewal period to the largest value possible.  Tell if this affects the frequency of printer losing Wi-Fi connectivity?
One more question.  After you have the printer connected to your wireless network and it's working, if you turn the printer off (via the power button), wait five seconds then unplug it then plug it back in and turn it on, does it connect to your network?

first of all i want to say that my ethernet connection is great, speed is fine and have not had a drop off in months, but recently my wireless connection has been strange, even if the signal speed is "excellent" i cant do anything, the connection has not dropped the speed is just not there
sometimes the speed comes back briefly for about 1 minute but then returns to a unseable state, again, this only effects my wireless connection

  • Wireless connection between D-Link WiFi router and Time capsule stopped working

We have an ISP provided D-Link wireless router (DIR-615) to which we wirelessly connected our 2Tb Time Capsule for back up and to connect a USB printer to out network. This worked perfectly for 3 1/2 years, until about a month ago, when the time capsule suddenly decided to go "off line". ie we could no longer access it or the printer via our wireless network. We had changed nothing - just one day it stopped working.
We tried to get it back online with no success. As the 2Tb Time Capsule was almost 7 years old and had had some HDD issues in the passed, we figured it had got old and died and that it was time to replace it; so we bought a new 3Tb Time Capsule, thinking this would get everything back to normal.
However much as we tried, we were also unable to get the new 3Tb Time Capsule to connect wirelessly to the D-Link wireless router. The Airport Utility did not show the D-Link wireless router or its wireless network, although we were (and are) able to see it in Systems Preferences>Networks from all our multiple devises. This in itself seemed odd. No matter what we tried, the Airport Utility would not find the D-Link wireless router and hence we could not add the 3Tb Time Capsule to the existing wireless network.
At the end of the day we got fed up with trying to add the 3Tb Time Capsule to the D-Link wireless network, and connected it via a LAN cable to the D-Link router instead. We then set it up as its own network. Worked gerat. Having done that we thought maybe the old 2Tb Time Capsule might not have been the problem after all, so we tried extending our new 3Tb Time Capsule wireless network using the 2Tb Time Capsule wirelessly. This worked perfectly! And we are now almost back to what we wanted.
So although we have a work around, this means now have 2 separate wireless networks as opposed to the original single wireless network where everything talked to everything else.
Can anyone shed any light on any of the following:-
    1. Why the original wireless network connection between the D-Link router and the 2Tb Time Capsule just stopped working? Was there some software change from Apple that "decided" D-Link wireless routers were no longer secure; and therefore the TCs could no longer connect to them?
    2. Why it was not possible to extend the existing D-Link wireless network using the the new 3Tb Time Capsule?
    3. Is there is anyway that we can get back to a single wireless network based around the D-Link wireless router as the primary router connecting to the modem, where the 2 Time Capsules connect as "wireless satellite base stations"?

    1. Why the original wireless network connection between the D-Link router and the 2Tb Time Capsule just stopped working? Was there some software change from Apple that "decided" D-Link wireless routers were no longer secure; and therefore the TCs could no longer connect to them?
A firmware update to the TC came along and you agreed to it without perhaps even noticing.. it then smashed your setup because Apple do not recommend the setup you were using and it is very poor.
    2. Why it was not possible to extend the existing D-Link wireless network using the the new 3Tb Time Capsule?
Because it is such a poor setup that Apple have taken away your ability to choose it unless you know exactly what you are doing.
    3. Is there is anyway that we can get back to a single wireless network based around the D-Link wireless router as the primary router connecting to the modem, where the 2 Time Capsules connect as "wireless satellite base stations"?
Yes, this I can help you with.
I have several ways around the problem.. but the first one is.. why use the DIR-615 at all.. it is not a modem.. it is a very ordinary bottom end, poor single band slow wireless router.
Why don't you simply remove the DIR-615 from the network completely.. plug whatever it is the ISP supplies you.. an ethernet connection from whatever that modem is you mentioned into the WAN port of the Time Capsule. And use the TC in some router mode.. same as the DIR-615 was setup.. dhcp or pppoe or whatever.. I doubt the TC cannot match it.
If you have issues please post a few screenshots from the DIR-615 to show how it is setup from the WAN side.. and as long as you are given the username and password or whatever the ISP uses to authenticate then chuck out the DIR-615.
Tell me if that is a goer.. if not we can work out a few other methods..
eg. Simply turn off the wireless in the DIR-615. It is poor cf the TC and there is no need for it.. with the TC in bridge only use the TC for wireless as well as wireless extend with your old TC.
Or setup roaming network where everything uses the same SSID.
Then you will have one wireless network. And it won't matter what as long as it connects.. although IMHO this is not right as the TC is such a superior router now you are wasting your new TC.

  • Unable to set wireless connection with imac and Canon MX860 printer ...

I recently converted to a Mac and bought a Mac Book, iMac, Airport Extreme, and a Canon MX860 printer. i have installed the canon software numerous times on my iMac to set up the wireless connection. yes, the airport extreme recognizes the printer and i am able to connect to my private and guest networks. the signal strength is good. It's the next part that I'm always stuck at. The Printer settings does not display when i choose More Printers and select Canon IJ Network. I called Apple support and we tried changing my network settings to an unsecured network and it still has the same issue. It was recommended this may be Canon driver issue and advised me to contact Canon. I reset the Airport, changed my network name and password .. i think i tried everything and it still does not work. What was I thinking when i said i wanted to convert to Mac? I can't move forward and connect my macbook or pc yet until I successfully connect the imac. Yes, i installed the latest canon IJ Network tool. of course the USB connection is fine but that defeats the whole purpose if why i bought this printer. please advise how to fix. this is getting very frustrating.

"I ran into the same network installation issue that I've seen in other Canon printers. Canon's network setup forces you to connect by USB cable first. Only after you tell the program that you want to use the computer over the network can you remove the USB cable, move the printer if needed, and if you're using a wired connection, reconnect a network cable. The process isn't particularly difficult, but it's more cumbersome than what other printers let you do, which is simply put the printer where you want it, plug in an Ethernet cable, and install the software." source = http://shop.pcmag.com/shop/product/pcmag/84634068.aspx?SB=6&OB=1
"MAC wireless network printer setup requires turning off firewall, and works fine if you leave firewall off (not recommended). If you set firewall at "essential connections only," wireless networked MX860 won't work. You must add MP navigator and solution apps to your firewall enabled list. Then it worked fine on the admin account, but still won't work on users account which required additional permission settings and selections. After 2 hours it worked fine, but I would've expected better instruction manual for MAC." source = http://cnet.nytimes.com/multifunction-devices/canon-pixma-mx860/4852-3181_7-3352 9769.html
"The only trouble that I have had with this machine is setting up the wireless network. The manual instructions are impossible for me to understand and I ended up having to call for assistance. Which easily solved the problem. And again when I had to reconfigure my network settings it was impossible to follow the logarithm of instructions in the manual. Again I needed to call for assistance. If I need help after the year manufacture's warranty I will be charged for these calls." source = http://www.zimbio.com/InkjetPrinter+Reviews/articles/1932/Canon+PIXMA+MX860+Wireless+One+PhotoPrinter
    Even Windows people have trouble:
"I NEED INTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO CONNECT MY HP LAPTOP TO THE CANON MX860 PRINTER."
"I'm with you. I have my mx860 connected usb to my pc with the printer being shared but my wireless laptop can't find it no matter what I try."
    And, unhappy Vista person:
"I had high hopes for this printer - it seemed to have it all. But the wireless feature never worked, it only worked on my gigabit network for about two weeks (only THREE print jobs including the test print), and never observed it to work via USB - Vista (x64 Ultimate) would throw an error saying it could not attach the device."

  • Wireless connections are unusable (slowdown) when Wired connection is being used?

Why do Wifi connections slow down to a unusable when the Wired connection is being used continuously (e.g. downloading software, media, large files)?
    How do I stop this?
I don't want the Wired connection to have some form of SuperGod priority over Wireless connections.
We are using the Linksys WRT54GL router
Ping/Latency times go from less than 100ms, when Wired connection is downloading, it shoots up to 550ms+ to over 1 second.
Websites just time out or take 5 minutes to load a broken form of it as if it half the HTML cut off in random places and the stylesheet is missing.
Download speed goes from 15Mb/s to .2 Mb/s
Online games are unplayable.  I die before I can get the chance to move or attack.

    Thanks.
Is that the only way it will work, device-MAC address one?
What does Ethernet Port priority do?
I enabled QoS with its default setting on which has all the Ethernet ports set to Low and it did absolutely nothing to improve usability.
Does Wired QoS have any effect on Wireless connections?
Does the field for Optimizing Game Apps affect applications on computers using a Wireless connection?
There is a Wireless QoS section... However it doesn't have any options in it to select devices, port priority, or anything...?
What does enabling WMM Support do?
