Wireless fails after 1 minute

MSI Wind with rtl8187se (name of module and wireless hardware) and using wpa-psk.  New installation of arch.  Wireless works fine for 1-2 minutes then fails (can't get any response pinging google or pointing elinks to google, etc).
What I'm doing:
bash-4.0# ifconfig wlan0 up
bash-4.0# iwconfig wlan0 essid PrivateNetwork
bash-4.0# wpa_supplicant -B -Dwext -i wlan0 -c /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf
bash-4.0# dhcpcd wlan0
dhcpcd: version 5.0.6 starting
dhcpcd: wlan0: broadcasting for a lease
dhcpcd: wlan0: offered 192.168.2.2 from 192.168.2.1
dhcpcd: wlan0: acknowledged 192.168.2.2 from 192.168.2.1
dhcpcd: wlan0: checking for 192.168.2.2
dhcpcd: wlan0: leased 192.168.2.2 for infinity
dhcpcd: forking to background
If I pkill dhcpcd and start it again, still no connection.
If I kill dhcpcd, wpa_supplicant, and do "ifconfig wlan0 down", and start over, connection comes back for  1 minute & quits again.
I tried "iwconfig wlan0 rate 11M fixed"  (to lower bit-rate from 54) but "fixed" seems not to work-- bit-rate creeps back up to 54 in 30 seconds.
And something weird with dhcpcd:
bash-4.0# dhcpcd -k
dhcpcd: dhcpcd not running
bash-4.0# dhcpcd wlan0
dhcpcd: dhcpcd already running on pid 2100 (/var/run/dhcpcd-wlan0.pid)
Please can someone help me understand what's going on?  I've heard of problems with rtl8187se module but apparently its working for some people.

No, I haven't been able install them yet, but thanks.

I can ping 74.125.45.100 with no drops for the 1st minute or so, then after that 100% packet loss.
Just for info:
bash-4.0# route -n

bash-4.0# route add default gw 192.168.2.1

Does that first table look normal?  Thanks for your help very much!

Thankyou, yes, I'm not even running a script yet, just running ifconfig/iwconfig/wpa_supplicant/dhcpcd on the command line.  I've tried waiting a while before starting dhcpcd.  Doesn't seem to make a difference.

  • [SOLVED] Wireless fails after suspending (Realtek 8192se)

This problem is already solved on the first post: I spent so long trying to solve it that I thought people should know the solution.
I have a Lenovo X100e with a Realtek 8192SE wireless card.  I'm running kernel 3.0.  The machine has, since upgrading to the 3.0 kernel had the annoying problem of failing wireless connections after suspending: I'll have a running wireless connection, then suspend the machine, and then wake the machine up and the machine cannot connect to any wireless network (perhaps the same one I was connected to before, in the same place).
    Things that did not work:
Installing the Realtek drivers from their website
Downgrading the kernel from 3.1 to 3.0
    Using wicd instead of networkmanager
    Walking around
    Other distributions
The solution was to put an entry in /etc/pm/config.d/config:
    SUSPEND_MODULES="rtl8192se rtlwifi mac80211 cfg80211"
Now the machine reconnects with no problems.
This may be the solution to the other big problem I was having with the 3.1 kernel: I would suspend the machine by any means and the screen goes black and the machine becomes non-responsive without actually suspending.  I may try upgrading to the 3.1 kernel and adding radeon to the SUSPEND_MODULES list above.

Found out more which might be significant for madwifi users:
According to the wiki I loaded the following modules in rc.conf: ath-hal, ath9k, wlan
Beside this one line in the modprobe.conf should be added: alias ath0 ath_pci. This way wicd as well as networkmanager used ath0 for connecting to wireless.
After the update I noticed that there is another wifi device in ifconfig listed: wlan0. So I suspected that 2 devices pointing at the same hardware may cause the instability, but de-activating one by ifconfig didn't help. Now I noticed by loading the modules one by one that the new ath9k is already defining wlan0 and the wireless starts working without loading the module wlan. It looks stable so far, but if I should be right I'm impossibly the only one having this trouble.
Confirmation would be nice, but I will mark this thread "solved" now.

  • [Solved] Atheros Wireless Fails after Update

After the update to kernel 3.6.37 the wireless on my Macbook pro is close to useless, but used to work very well before. Madwifi was upgraded as well but I suspect another problem.
Using WICD there is no wireless at all! With networkmanager the available networks are visible and sometimes logs on. However, the network fails quickly and starts asking for the password - most of the time it is useless typing in the password again. So the wireless is basically working but very unstable with networkmanager and non-existent anymore with WICD.
    Any ideas?

  • WAP200e in bridge mode wireless quites after 4 minutes

I have 2 new wap200e in bridge mode -- after setup and cold start, they talk to each other for about 4 or 5 minutes, then the wireless light on both goes out, and they will not talk to each other.  Any Help?????

Can I ask what the fimware version is that you are running on both devices? Also you can contact SBSC at 866-606-1866 for help with trouble shooting this issue.

  • Wireless fails after pacman update

I had my wireless functional but after the latest set of updates it somehow broke.
It's a Broadcom wireless that uses the b43 driver.
I wrote myself a little cheater list when I first set up the wireless. The commands appear okay but when I attempt to get to the net I get a network unreachable error when I attempt to ping anything.
sudo ip link set wlan0 up
sudo iwlist wlan0 scan | grep ESSID
I see the available wireless. 2WIRE824 is my router.
    ESSID:"2WIRE824"
    ESSID:"Enforcer24GHz"
    ESSID:"2WIRE409"
    ESSID:"2WIRE907"
    ESSID:"BAMFs"
I submit my key and attempt to connect to my router
sudo iwconfig wlan0 essid "2WIRE824" key **mykey**
    sudo dhcpcd wlan0
returns --> dhcpcd[797]: sending commands to master dhcpcd process
now when I try to ping anything I get network unreachable.
What has changed (or what am I missing) that broke the wireless?
I have all my wireless profiles that haven't changed and they are still listed in /etc/rc.conf
    I've even tried
    sudo iwconfig wlan0 channel auto
despite my cheatsheet stating to use that only if the dhcpcd times out.

I would like to see the output of a second iwconfig without any switches or parameters performed a few seconds after that first one, just as you wrote it.  I want to establish if you are actually associating with the AP.  You should see the MAC of the AP in that output.
    Then, you said

Okay, the wlan has no address, as expected.  The carrier, however should be up.
    [arch-nicky@arch-nicky ~]$ ip link set wlan0 up
    RTNETLINK answers: Operation not permitted
But you have to run that as root
So, put the interface up as root.
Try to associate with sudo iwconfig wlan0 essid "2WIRE824" key **mykey**
    Pause.  Run iwconfig
If it associates, then run dhcpcd wlan0  .  Don't waste your time if it does not associate.
If you are still having trouble, look at the output of rfkill list
One last thought.  Are you trying to connect to the same router as you are wired to?  You should be able to associate, but you may have routing issues later.

  • S10e (4187XB5) wireless fails after a few seconds

The wireless thinks it is connected. It connects to the home (or office) wireless without trouble, acquires valid IP address, etc., but behaves as if unconnected after a few seconds.
    I have tried:
Uninstalling and reinstalling the network adapter via Device Manager (after this, I can browse the web for a few seconds, then nothing will load again)
Installing all updates to the system (there were no significant pending updates)
Updating the driver for the Broadcom network adapter
Reverting to the earlier driver for the Broadcom network adapter
    Updating the BIOS.
Firewall is disabled. Ethernet works without issues, but it is not practical to use the netbook on ethernet.
    Assistance would be appreciated.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Thank you for the suggestions. I do not have the Readycomm application. I did check the power management settings, and it was set to allow the computer to turn off the wireless to save power, so I unchecked and applied that. Still no luck.
I tried running the included PC Doctor 5 software and checking the network card. The Wireless Connectivity Test, Wireless Signal Strength Test and PCI Express Status Test all run without trouble. The TCP/IP Network Communication Test yields "Cannot Run," however. When I check the log, it says that the firewall may be blocking pings to the router, but the firewall is off. I double checked.
Edit: I am considering buying a replacement WiFi card, but I know this will only work if the problem is hardware. I'm still not sure; it seems counterintuitive that I it would be a hardware problem, since I can connect to wireless networks and browse the internet even for a few seconds. I can always see wireless networks and connect to them. It seems to be a TCP/IP problem.

  • WRT54GS v7 loses wireless connectivity after 15 minutes or so

I just installed a WRT54GS v7 router to work with my cable modem. It has the latest firmware. The wireless connection seems to work for about 15 minutes or so at a time and then it stops working. I can't even get to 192.168.1.1. The only way to get it to work is unplug the router and plug it back in. Originally, I thought it was interference from my 2.8GHz cordless phone, so I unpluged it. But that still didn't fix the problem. What could be the problem? Thanks.

  • Facetime incoming audio fails after 50 minute conversation... why?

Not only Facetime, but Skype will loose incoming audio if the conversation exceeds 50 minutes (approximately).  Outgoing audio and  video in / out aren't affected.  The 'fix' is to restart the app.  This happens 100% of the time.  The failure is always the same... incoming audio becomes progressively more choppy until it is unintelligible  The progression from perfect audio to unintelligible audio take about 30 seconds.   Audio I/O is via USB using a 'Focusrite Scarlett 2i2' audio interface, but have had the same problem with a Behringer and an Edirol USB interface. Any idea what might be going wrong?

I have a similar problem with FT audio, except that in my case the problem seems localized to an iPad 3G that has problems SENDING  audio to an iPad 2G.
We switched to FT a couple of months ago because of poor quality when using Skype, and FT was noticeably better for the first few calls. However, we have now started getting loss of audio from the iPad 3G after 5-10 min. In one case, the audio returned for 5-10 sec., but then never came back.
We now switch to Skype when this problem occurs; the quality is not so good, but the audio does not drop out.
The owner of the iPad 3G has had similar problems in other FT calls.
Does anyone have any ideas as to why this might happen? Could marginal upload bandwidth at the IPad 3G end cause this? (It seems unlikely; I would expect FT to shed video before audio so that the users could still communicate effectively.)

  • Wireless fails after Lenovo driver update (X40 23718EU; Atheros 11b/g Mini PCI)

I use Windows XP SP2.  My wireless LAN adaptor driver was old (ver 3.1.102.23) and did not support WPA2 protocol so I updated it from the Lenovo site using this driver download:   Windows XP, 2000  06 Oct 2009  v7.6.1.260b
Immediately afterward  on IBM Access Connections screen, the "Enable wireless radio" menu item no longer would turn the radio on.  (I did manage to turn the radio on using Device Manager properties Advanced tab Radio On/Off setting.)  Also on that screen, I could no longer see any wireless networks in the "Find wireless networks" button.
So, before I do more damage, any thoughts?  Some questions occur to me, not sure if any of them is useful?
    1.  Since I went directly to Lenovo to download the driver, is the Windows driver Rollback feature likely to work or just to make things worse?  (I never heard of  Rollback before today.)
    2.  I could find no good help poking around Lenovo documentation.  Atheros seems even less helpful.
    3.  Has anyone successfully installed a driver lately on Thinkpad X series for this Atheros WLAN adaptor for Win XP?
    4.  Although I think it's a waste of time, I did try the Windows setup a wireless network wizard for the device.  No luck there yet, either.
Have to reboot now, will update if anything new shows up afterward...

The radio is still listed as being "off" on the "show status window", but hey, I'm connected to my wireless network with a wpa-psk password, I can access the internet and use the printer, so all is well. Or will be when I get System Manager to work right - how many hours does a virus scan take, anyway?
Hi and welcome to the forum!
The radio should say "off", but the status should say "on". The button is just like electricity's switch, "Radio off" literally means to turn off device.
As for virus scan, it depends on which one you're using and the amount of data your drive contains.
    Hope this helps.

  • "Load Report Failed" after one minute of inactivity

    Post Author: djsmitherman
    CA Forum: General
    Hi.
I've got reports being accessed via an asp.net application using crystal report viewer. The reports come up and display just fine, but if the user is inactive for 60 seconds or longer, then clicking on any command on the crystal toolbar - next page, print report, etc - the report page blanks out and an error is displayed above the toolbar that reads "Load Report Failed."
Is this some timeout feature that can be controlled via the web.config file, or any other way? The URL in the report page does include a date/time parameter.
    Thanks for the help.

Energy Saver: disable option to dim screen before sleep. Be sure to configure the computer to not sleep when on AC power. Be sure you haven't select Battery for your Energy Saver options. Set your sleep time higher.
If you're running on battery you'll need to uncheck the option to dim display when on that power source.

  • VPN hangs after 45 minutes

I have a VPN setup using L2tp over ipsec. Using Leopard 10.5 it worked with no problem. With Snow Leopard it connects and works fine for about 45 minutes. Then it drops out. I then try to communicate with my wireless router with no success. I disconnect the VPN connection, wait 15 seconds and then reconnect. It then is OK for another 45 minutes. Should I reinstall Snow Leopard or rollback to 10.5? Any suggestions would be great.

I have this problem too. Most of the time, it fails after 48 minutes. Occasionally, it doesn't fail then, but will then fail at the 96 minute mark.

  • OS X won't install, keeps giving me install failed screen but if I restart, I loop back to the install failed screen 54 minutes later.

I keep trying to install OS X but it fails after 54 minutes. I restart the install because that's the only option on the screen but after another install attempt, I'm looped back to the fail message. Please help, I don't know how to fix the error or get out of the install safely.

    onflach,
yes, that helps — you have a 13-inch Late 2011 MacBook Pro, and you’re trying to install Mavericks onto it, which means that you have completed its download (as opposed to e.g. having an older MacBook Pro and trying to install a version of OS X that came on DVD).
Since you have a Late 2011 model, it came with Lion originally, which means that it came from the factory with a recovery partition preïnstalled. The next time that you restart it, hold down a Command key and the R key so that it boots into the recovery partition. Does the recovery partition identify itself as being Lion, or as being Mavericks?

  • Upload to Blurb fails after exactly 30 minutes (There was an error uploading your book's pages...)

After exactly 30 minutes after the upload has started, I get this error:
There was an error uploading your book's pages.  Would you like to try again?  The choices given are "Retry Upload" and :"Cancel"
When I retry, the same thing happens - fails after exacly 30 minutes.  I am using a window 7 pc (with Service Pack 1) and using Lightroom 5.4.  I have turned off my firewall and antivirus programs, rebooted, and connected directly to my router (not wireless) and ensuring my pc does not go to sleep, but did nothing I try wil help.
Anyone else get this?  Any ideas?  Thanks!

    Hello,
I had this problem as well - the upload to Blurb would not work. Creation of a PDF and export as JPEG in the book module worked.
For me, the solution was to turn off the Windows Firewall while uploading. Now it works!

  • MacBook fails to connect to wireless network after sleep mode

My MacBook fails to reconnect to my wireless network after waking up.
After turning on my MacBook it establishes a decent connection to whatever wireless network I choose (mostly at home). When I close the lid and open it again the network connection is lost and is only reestablished after reboot.
Hopefully someone has a solution as this is very annoying.

Instead of a reboot go to your Wireless Menu icon and select "Turn Airport Off".
Wait a second and "Turn Airport On."
For me this has been a problem for about 2 years. This is much faster than a reboot!

I used scripting brigde to add a movie that has size bigger than 5GB, exactly after two minutes iTunes return a failed, but the processing of the file is actually added to iTunes Library successfully. The copying take more than 5 minutes to complete. Why the iTunes Scripting Brigde returned failed when it is actually success? It occurred exactly 2 minutes after submit the request to Scripting Brigde. Is this 2 minutes related to the Apple Event time out? if it does, how do I get around this problem? thx

I can tell you that this is some of the absolutely worst customer service I have ever dealt with. I found out from a store employee that when they are really busy with calls, they have third party companies taking overflow calls. One of those companies is Xerox. What can a Xerox call center rep possibly be able to authorize on a Verizon account?  I'm Sure there is a ton of misinformation out there due to this. They don't note the accounts properly or so everyone can see them. I have been transferred before and have asked if they work for Verizon or a third party also and was refused an answer so, apparently they aren't required to disclose that information. I spent a long time in the store on my last visit and it's not just customers that get the runaround. It happens to the store employees as well and it's beyond frustrating.
