Wireless lan using 2 cisco units

Hi everyone,
I posted this on another forum by mistake rather than here.
i have been given a project - expand our wireless network.
i have already done part 1 - add an accesspoint to our network for a maintenance area.
part 2.  take (2) air-ap1242ag-a-k9 units and link them together.
the first unit is already up and running and i enabled the A radio.
i can also get the second unit up and running on our network via plant ethernet.
the part i cannot figure out is what the second unit is( ap, bridged ap, non-root bridge, repeater) and how to set up to access the master.
from the plant ethernet, i am going to take unit 1 and let that be the master.
i am going to go approx 200 ft with the second unit and let that be the slave using the A radio.
the b/g radio will be for maintenance laptops.
i have downloaded the manual and cannot link everything together.
i have read and re-read and its frustrating.
any help would be much appreciated.
regards,
philip

ok, problem is solved. thx again.
the only thing was really to get a windows/microsoft
patch for wpa2 support, which is linked in the wikipedia article.
(only available after succesful genuince check).
After that my crpyted wlan worked without problems
shame on me that i havent checked that before.
best regards

  • Hi I am hoping to add my 2 TB time capsule to my existing wireless network using cisco dpq 3925 modem. I have two mbp one running Yosemite and the other os 10.7.5

I have a time capsule 2TB model 1409. I would like to connect it to my existing wireless network (using a cisco DPQ 3925 modem). I have two mac book pro one running Yosemite and the other OS 10.7.5. The best I can do is to connect the TC to the Modem via ethernet. Have one of my MBP connect to the time capsule using a ethernet cable and have the TB set to bridge mode. In this configuration, both mbp and the iPad can detect the TC but when I try to connect it to the wireless network, using the same network name and password, the light flashes amber and I cannot detect the time capsule again.

    Correct..
The best I can do is to connect the TC to the Modem via ethernet.
The TC does not connect to non-apple routers by wireless.. well. It is possible but so poor a method that Apple seem to have eliminated it in the setup wizard.. I would take that as a good thing..
If you cannot use ethernet you have two choices..
Use another apple router that is plugged into the Cable modem.. eg a second hand Extreme Gen5 or the latest Express.. the Extreme is both cheaper and better.
Or you can use a set of EOP (homeplug) adapters.. but they cannot be guaranteed to work so you should buy from a place that allows returns.

  • Extending wireless LAN using third-party devices?

I know that with multiple Airport Extreme base stations, it’s a simple matter to extend the range of an 802.11n network by using the “Extend a wireless network” or “Participate in a WDS network” wireless modes. It seems like of the two, “Extend a wireless network” might be the easier of the two to configure. Does anyone have recommendations / preferences between the two modes?
Separately, although I can afford Airport Extreme stations personally, I have friends with the same desire to extend their existing wireless network but who can’t afford Airport Extreme stations. Is there a lower-cost way to do this with Netgear, D-Link, or other third-party devices? Does this mean all of the devices must support WDS to work, or are there other solutions? Do you have recommendations for specific models that work well for extending networks (preferrably also models that support WPA/WPA2, and not just WEP).
Any help would be appreciated. I won’t go into the details of the distances involved or intervening walls. Let’s just say a hop or two should stretch the distance.

    Bob Timmons wrote:
"Extend a wireless network runs at "n" wireless speeds with minimal bandwidth loss on the network
WDS runs at "g" wireless speeds, even if you are using newer "n" devices. The bandwidth on the entire wireless network is cut in half for each "remote" added to the network. So, with one "remote" in a WDS, you have a "g" wireless network running at 1/2 speed. If you have two "remotes" in a WDS, you have a "g" wireless network running at 1/4 speed.
Bob — thank you so much for the help.
Years ago in the days when Airport Extreme base stations supported 802.11b/g only, I remember setting up a WDS network between three Airport Extreme base stations. I seem to remember that the one in the middle was set up in a “relay” mode to bridge between the two remote base stations. In theory, using multiple relays, you could extend a network arbitrarily far as long as you could get power to all the devices and didn’t care about all sorts of bandwidth, latency, and signal strength hits.
Is it the case that with the 802.11n in current Airport Extreme stations you can't set up relays in a similar fashion using the "Extend a Network" wireless mode? I was looking at Apple’s “Designing Airport Networks Using Airport Utility” document, which doesn’t explicitly say, but seems to suggest that the central base station (operating in “Create a Wireless Network” mode) can be extended if the “allow this network to be extended” button is set, and then on a second base station you can use the “Extend a Wireless Network” mode to extend it. However, there’s nothing to suggest that you could extend off the second base station. Does anyone know if that’s possible?
I was looking at Netgear-brand wireless extenders this morning (http://www.netgear.com/home/products/wireless-range-extenders/wireless-range-ext enders/default.aspx) which sell for around $75 to $80 each online. They can extend any 802.11b/g/n network if the remote device supports the WPS (Wireless Protected System) standard, as most Netgear products appear to do (I believe Airport Extreme base stations don’t support WPS). They make it quite easy to connect Netgear wireless devices using “Push ’N’ Connect” buttons on the devices.
However, Netgear pre-sales specialist pointed out that the Netgear wireless extenders (the WN2000RPT is the current model) can similarly only extend out by one hop from the “center” and cannot operate as relay to get out further, as would be the case for WDS-based relays.
Is it the case that you need to find devices that support WDS (Wireless Distributed System) to allow for multiple relays to cover longer distances? I know that Airport Extreme base stations, both current models and the older b/g models, support WDS. Can anyone recommend third-party WDS-capable wireless modems or access points?
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Wireless LAN Management - Cisco 1130 WLSE Error.

    Hello,
I'm tearing my hair out over a Cisco WLSE 1130, I recently purchased it and I'm trying to run the Recovery CD.
I've downloaded the 2.15 Recovery CD ISO image from Cisco and created a working CD
I've run into a wall with the Recovery CD - the WLSE begins to boot from it, but will stop almost immediately in a LINUX loading screen like this:
    Loading initrd.lmg..............ok
    Loading vminuz..................ready.
Uncompressing Linux... Ok, booting the kernel.
I tried downloading the different ISO version image again, with the same result.
When I logged onto the console port at the back after series of messages, I get the following result.
    --------------- ME1110 Maintenance Image -----------------
    INIT: Entering runlevel: 1
bash: no job conEXT2-fs warning: checktime reached, running e2fsck is recommended
    trol in this shell
    CDROM is hde
Partitioning the drive: size = 78150744.
Error: Version infomation not found in flash.
    flushing ide devices:
    hda hde
    Restarting system.
And then it just hangs there instead.
Has anyone had these kinds of problems before and how did they get round them?
I'm under the impression that the Recovery CD has a full HD image of the WLSE - it rewrites everything on the WLSE hard disk, including the filesystem, partitions and the LINUX OS, not just the Cisco bits on top of those?
Is there a limit to what version of the OS a WLSE 1030 can run (the 2.1.15 CD won't load because of this?)?
Is there another way to get into the recovery image?
Is there a ghost image or something of a virgin WLSE server hard drive somewhere, to reimage the WSLE HDD offline?
    Is my WLSE toast?
Any help or ideas would be much appreciated.
    Kind Regards
    AB

That error message is recoverable by two things, try them in the following order:
    1. Burn a new iso CD with a slower speed (no more than 4x).
    2. Open a TAC case for a Replacement Unit (RMA)

  • How to replace the certificate of Cisco 2106 wireless LAN controller for CAPWAP ?

I have interested in CAPWAP feature and I download the open capwap project to make Access Controller (AC) and Wireless Terminal Point (WTP). I had built the AC which used PC and WTP which used Atheros AP. The CAPWAP feature work well when I enabled the CAPWAP that used my own AC  and WTP. When I got the Cisco 2106 wireless LAN controller (Cisco WLC), I configured the Cisco WLC to instead my own AC but I got the authorize fail in Cisco WLC side. It seem the Cisco WLC could not recognize the CAPWAP message which sent form my own WTP. I think this issue just need to synchronize the certificate between Cisco WLC and WTP.So I need to replace the Cisco WLC's certificate manually. Does anyone know how to replace the certificate manually with Cisco WLC ?
    Best Regards,
    Alan

Unfortunately this Support Community is for Cisco Small Business & Small Business Pro product offerings.  The WLC2106 is a traditional Cisco product.  You can find this type of support on the Cisco NetPro Forum for all traditional Cisco products.

  • PDASync over wireless LAN or WAN

    Hi,
Is it possible to use PDASync over wireless LAN (using 802.11b
card/attachment from Palm or Handspring device) or wireless WAN (CDPD or
    CDMA modem)?
I know that currently it is used via the serial port on a Solaris
workstation for sync ... but interested to do the same over a wireless
    network ..
Any info will be helpful ...
    Thanks,
    Sailen
    [email protected]

    Thanks for the reply.
I think that is the solution I was looking at. I think the WAN-LAN was 192.168.2.1, but I will be setting up a CAT5 from room to room between routers.
Ok. I guess here lies my confusion from what I read, as well as my utter lack of knowledge plaing its part.
If I disconnect the WRT600 from my desktop and hook up the WRT54G (with no other connections to the interenet), how do I set the IP without first resetting the webinterface logon from the WRT600 to the WRT54G. If I just logon as normal, it will be, and is, the WRT600 webinterface with all the WRT600 advanced settings. (I did use the same username for both routers. Could that be the issue?)
Or is my thinking incorrect, which it might be, in that the webinterface login, currently set to the WRT600, and currently displaying all the settings for the WRT600, is supposed to change when I connect the WRT54G. It does not, when logging in as normal.
This is where I think I read about resetting the router preferences to allow for the 'admin' logon to be reset to what would be the WRT54G preferences, which are different, but would allow for changing the DHCP and IP.
Possibly my issue is How. How do I get back to the WRT54G webinterface to make these changes?
If I go to 192.168.1.1, as stated already, it will be the WRT600 logon.
    Thanks

  • Can cisco CAP2702i connect to Cisco3850 switch with wireless LAN controller license via another switch ?

If i connect cisco AP - CAP2702i to another switch, and use trunk port between Cisco3850 and the other switch , can the AP able to register with Cisco3850 with wireless LAN controller  ?   or the AP has to directly connect to Cisco3850 in order to register?

The AP and 3850 wireless management are in same Vlan( vlan202). The AP is new unit and did not join MC before.
    What i did on 3850 :
input command - wireless management interface vlan 202
                              - ap cdp
                              - wireless mobility controller
Is there any config i miss out on 3850 and any config need to be set on AP ?
From Ap console output show me "could not discover WLC using dhcp ip". Is it due to AP dont have IP address? If AP register with WLC through layer 2 , i believe there is no related with IP.Correct me if i'm wrong.
Due to the 3850 is not a POE, the AP unable directly connect to 3850  . I guess have to use power adapter to power on the AP.

  • Cisco Wireless Control System need wireless Lan Controller ?

Cisco Wireless Control System need wireless Lan Controller , for Rogue detection

    Hi Joao,
The WCS is used in conjuntion with the WLC (Wireless Lan Controller) for Rogue Detection. It is not a must for this function but more of an add-on :)
The Cisco WCS is an optional network component that works in conjunction with Cisco Aironet Lightweight Access Points, Cisco wireless LAN controllers and the Cisco Wireless Location Appliance.
    From this doc;
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps6305/index.html
    Overview of WCS
The Cisco Wireless Control System (WCS) is a Cisco Unified Wireless Network Solution management tool that adds to the capabilities of the web user interface and command line interface (CLI), moving from individual controllers to a network of controllers. WCS includes the same configuration, performance monitoring, security, fault management, and accounting options used at the controller level and adds a graphical view of multiple controllers and managed access points.
WCS runs on Windows 2003 and Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES 4.0 and AS 4.0 servers. On both Windows and Linux, WCS can run as a normal application or as a service, which runs continuously and resumes running after a reboot.
The WCS user interface enables operators to control all permitted Cisco Unified Wireless Network Solution configuration, monitoring, and control functions through Internet Explorer 6.0 or later. Operator permissions are defined by the administrator using the WCS user interface Administration menu, which enables the administrator to manage user accounts and schedule periodic maintenance tasks.
WCS simplifies controller configuration and monitoring while reducing data entry errors with the Cisco Unified Wireless Network Controller autodiscovery algorithm. WCS uses the industry-standard SNMP protocol to communicate with the controllers.
