Wireless limited connectivity

I finally got all problems resolved to find another one. I made my router require a WEP to access it wirelessly, and disconnected my laptop from the connection. When I reconnected I come on to find myself greeted with "limited or no connectivity" after being connected to the network.
What should I do? Why did this occur and how do I fix it?

Well my laptop is approx.....4 feet from the router. but I have an even bigger problem now. I reset the router to factory defaults via the reset button, and now I am faced with a whole new set of problems. Now I am completely unable to access internet because it has been reset, and I have no clue as how to configure it myself.
Easylink no longer works, it says it does not support my router(and it worked the first time, because it is the ONLY thing that got it working properly).
Also when I try running the install disc, it says the router cannot connect to the internt even though all of the lights show it should be.

  • Limited Connectivity after logging into wireless network?

I have a questions in regards to logging into my wireless network from laptop. From laptop I experienced a connection but a "LIMITED CONNECTIVITY?"   In other words a connection was confirmed but unsuccessful, it says? How do I fix? Thnx!

  • Wireless guest users are getting limited connectivity.

Could anyone help please, I have a wireless guest solution consist of :
WLC located internal in the network – all the AP are associated with that WLC-.
Anchor WLC located in the DMZ . the guest SSID are tunneled from the internal WLC to the Anchor WLC, the DHCP service for guest users is on the Anchor WLC.
NAC guest server to authenticate the guest users.
The solution was working properly but now we have a problem that if any one tried to connect to the guest SSID if he is authorized or not , the user will get IP address from the DHCP pool and now as you know most of people has smart phones and they try to get internet access. Now only 5 or 6 people authenticated with NAC gest server and the DHCP pool become full because too many people tried to connect even they do not authenticate.
so if any user trys to cnnect he will not get IP address from the anchor controller and getting limited connectivity.
if I add static IP address on my Laptop , I will be redirected to the authentication page and can access normally.
I am working in big environment 7,000 users so I can’t go with increasing the DHCP pool because the problem will not be solved.
I hope if anyone can help in this case.
    Thanks in advance.

This is a pitfall and raising  the eyebrows.. currently we do not have anyother option other than using a WPA-PSK + WEB AUTH
    that is..
PSK will block the users to just grab an IP and sit!! , if the user enters a valid PSK, he will get the IP address and followed by the Web auth process!! this may help u as of now.. or just a work around.. to overcome the IP exhaustion..
Please rasie a PER with your accounts team to raise the severity on this issue if u have the contract n all with us!!

  • Help Hacker/No connection/Limited connection wireless problem

I have a WRT 54G router. A few weeks ago spyware got on my computer because my virus/spyware protection did not update (Pccillian). My virus program also says an unauthorized person is on my wireless connection and it gives me an IP address. But it can't get them off.
Someone recommended downloading AVG and McAfee wireless protection program. I downloaded the AVG programs and my computer works a little better, but I still got the pop-ups and someone was still logged onto my wireless.
I downloaded the McAfee wireless protection and now I cannot log onto the internet. I have a wireless signal, but it says "no connection" or "limited connection." I had my windows program try to repair the problem and it gets to a point where it is renewing or changing an IP address and it tells me it can't do it and to contact the program manager...
Does anyone have any suggestions? My computer is a dell laptop. Thanks/

Yes that is so true TheRiot.  To get rid of the free loader go into your routers user interface and boot him out.  You can set up WPA or WPA2 security and they will not be able to use your wireless network any more.  Make sure your SSID is NOT linksys so you should change it to something you can idetify as YOUR wireless network.

  • Inspiron 15 (3521) wireless 'limited'...but only at certain places!

I've spent days trying to resolve this issue on this laptop. I purchased it as a Christmas gift for my son, only to find that it's got a problem with wifi connectivity. What's crazy though is that it connects perfectly to my home router, and will connect perfectly at two different coffee shops/bakeries I've used for testing yesterday. But at a local Starbucks and at my sons work location (which is also a public hotspot) it only shows a 'limited' connection, and you get no Internet access. I was also told that it could see and connect to his iPhone in 'hotspot' mode or whatever, but couldn't get to the Internet thru that either.
Basics: Inspiron 15 (3421), Windows 8 x64 clean install, and all current Dell drivers installed (from the Dell site.)
Fwiw, I have a long tech background with computers and laptops, so I have no problem getting into and checking or resetting things. As I said, it has all the latest Dell drivers for everything on it, including the most current (as of today) wireless 1704 driver. Also, I've read numerous forum posts by others with similar problems, so I've seen many of the things suggested to try to fix wifi connectivity issues (i.e. set it to maximum performance, don't let the system turn it off, etc.) I'm still checking various posts for others ideas, but it's frustrating to have it working here at home and have to run up to a Starbuck to see if it's fixed or still flaky.
Even so, it seems to me that the evidence that it connects perfectly to some hotspot routers and my AT&T wifi router at home makes it pretty clear the hardware is fine. It does see all the hotspot routers and lists their names and it can/does connect and get an IP (verified via 'ipconfig /all'). So I think the laptop/wlan hardware is functional, but there's something wrong with the drivers or some setting that is enabled or disabled, or set wrong, that just doesn't communicate properly with some of the generic hotspot routers or configurations...like the 'Google Starbucks' hotspot down the street.
I think by now Dell must have a very good idea what the problem is, even if they aren't widely publicizing it for whatever reason. But I'd like to know what could make this thing not connect to some very public hotspot routers, and be just fine connecting to others. It has to be something set in the laptop that's making it overly strict or specific, such that maybe older routers won't work.
    Any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks...

I can certainly understand the frustration. It's clear to me, after a week of trying to figure this out that not everyone's connection problem was the same as mine, but I do think that what I found  was something that should have been near the top of the list in troubleshooting steps. It was hands-down one thing that would stop all internet connectivity under some circumstances..but would work in others...and would never be obvious to most people--especially considering the info below:
Tonight I went back to a different Starbuck's to double-check that it was now working at all of them. At this Starbuck's---which I'd been to before---I still got the 'limited' connectivity. Lo and behold, the network IP4 setting still had the faulty 192.168.1.254 DNS entry, with the check box to "use the following DNS server address", though I know I'd deleted it since things were now working at the other Starbuck's. I removed it, but when I went back and reconnected it still wouldn't connect...and the DNS entry seemed to have reappeared. I tried connecting and reconnecting, but it wouldn't get past limited connectivity.  Then it hit me...
What I suspect now might be a problem is that if you ever tried to connect to the router at a location, and either remembered it or choose to "connect automatically", it must be storing the settings for that particular network/wi-fi connection. It seems logical in hindsight, but it had not occurred to me that each wi-fi connection you connect to (Starbucks..the book store..etc.) may save whatever network attributes you had set in there at the start, and if they're wrong, you're, well, dazed and confused to put it mildly. I think that's why my faulty DNS entry was still in there for this location.
So, I finally completely deleted the connection for this Starbucks (i.e. choose 'forget this network' from the wi-fi list) and let it be re-detected cleanly. Now when I chose to connect...bingo! Got through to the Starbuck's T&C page and could finally authenticate and go on.
To restate my experience: I'd tried all the 'advanced' settings changes that so many Dell 'Rockstars' kept telling everyone to change--I changed power settings, strict H, 802.11b, 2300, MAIN, AUX, aggressive, broader compatibility, blah, blah..changed the back, the back again. I reinstalled drivers, borrowed drivers from old Win 7 batches, and even tried some odd Broadcom drivers. Not one of those things made any difference, but not one rockstar every suggested being sure you don't have a bad DNS server IP in there.
(Fwiw...I did finally settle on the WLAN 1708 driver, which worked and is running in there now, though I think the original 1704 driver probably was working all along.)
    The steps:
    1) Connect to the router showing 'Limited' connectivity...then..
    2) Right-click the wi-fi icon in the Windows tray (next to the battery icon) and choose "Open Network and Sharing Center.
    3) Double-click the name of wi-fi connection on the right (in blue, next to the little green wi-fi bars.)
    4) Click 'Properties'..
    4) Scroll down and double-click on "Internet Connection Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)
    5) At the bottom, select ""Obtain DNS Server Address Automatically"....click "OK" and you're done.
You'll likely have been disconnected anyway, but best to just "Forget this Network" for this connection and let it be re-detected, and reconnect from scratch. Worked for me and I can now connect everywhere.
    Best of luck..

  • Thinkpad yoga - limited connection - intel 7260AC (with solution that worked for me)

    limited connection issue
i'm new to the forum, sorry for bad english
i've a brand new rhinkpad yoga, with win 8.1 and intel ac 7260 wifi card
first of all the solution that worked for me is moving from WEP to WPA2 protection with the router
the problem was that i wasn't able to connect to internet using wifi
i got "limited connection" and i wasn't able to access internet at all
windows validated the connection and obtained an ip, but it wasn't then unable to access internet at all, i also wasn't able to access or ping the router.
i also got an error stating the lack of the default gateway, but this one seems to be resolved by windows check and repair procedures
my router had wep protection, and i used it with no issues with 2 android smartphones, an android tablet, a mac and a linux system, and in the past with windows 7 and vista systems.
i've searched for solution all the night and checked everything
    - system and driver update (via usb thetering)
    - various command to reset network configuration
    - unchecking selected check box in energy saving tab inside wireless property panel
but the only one solution that worked was the move from WEP to WPA2
    hope this helps
    my first post, be patient...

From what I gathered, about the Y2P Limited Wifi issue, this problem is solved by configurating a router to meet the computer needs. Once done, to fully implement this fix, it is adviced  that you carry this configured router and use it every where you go, like a power cord. When you go to Statbuck in the monrining, be sure they hook up your router and return it when you leave. Alternitively, this can be done at other venues like the airport, hotel, school, work, etc.
I really don't know why people keep wasteing their time. Lenovo has chimed in and said this is a router issue. That said, the aformentioned advice is a formulated fix.  Shall we put an end to thiese topics and get the forum moving again past the wifi issues? Like said many times, this issue has been fixed using the above reccomendation.

  • N8 and wireless router connectivity

I have a problem with my new N8.
If I use the N8 at home it interferes with my broadband wireless router (BT Homehub) resulting in my losing a wireless internet connection on my laptop.  The laptop tells me I have Limited Connectivity.

Which BT homehub do you have (there's been three)?
Have you been into the routers settings and tried changing the wireless channel?

  • Limited connectivity with Apple TV 1stG

    Hey folks,
im running a computer with windows 7. My itunes is connected to an Apple TV of the first generation. Everytime i download a movie or tv show via itunes and synchronize with my Apple TV afterwards, i get a limited connectivity after 5 minutes or so (time varies). Unplugging my wlan stick doesnt help. Neither does a deactivation of my wireless adapter. Only solution for getting my internet back to work is a reboot.
Anyone knows a fix or has encountered similar problems? Shutting off firewalls and antivirus software doesnt seem to help. A strange thing i observed is that obviously music files or small data volume arent affected by this problem.

  • Satellite L300D-243 and WLAN - limited connectivity

I've just got an L300D-243 and it is mostly lovely, but ... when I try to connect to our wireless internet I keep getting a 'limited connectivity' notification. I'm using system pack one so it's not the fault known in system pack 2. It works fine when I use the internet cable, but that kind of defeats the purpose of having a computer I can carry around.
So, can anyone suggest a cure?

    Hi!
Please check the link posted by Feliks. It seems that it could solve your issue with the WLAN connection.
Furthermore I can recommend installing the newest WLAN driver from Intel. On my Satellite L300 I had some issues with the WLAN connection and a driver update could solve the problem! :)

  • Limited Connectivity after new printer

    Hi,
In short, after adding a new laptop and wireless printer to the network,  network access to all connected computers goes down whenever a computer boots up or awakens from sleep. After a few minutes, access is restored in full but this is very annoying. This all happened after adding the Dell wireless printer using the auto connect button on the WRT110 as per the printers instructions. Doing this connected the printer but killed access to all other computers.
The network consists of 3 wireless routers connected a couple years ago from a guide on this site. It has always worked flawlessly until I hit that button. I ended up doing a hard reset on the cable modem & the main router, pulling all the ethernet cables, and resetting the security pin. This allowed me to get online and I thought it was fixed till the windows 7 laptop went to sleep and woke up to the limited connectivity message, almost like a conflicting IP problem but have had no messages to confirm that. I also noted that by looking at the DHCP status from the WRT110's settings that it doesn't always show all connected computers even when they are accessing the internet.
The routers were hooked up so they could be seen as a single network and you could roam accross the property without switching networks. If I remember correctly, the 2 slave routers were hooked into the main router through the lan ports instead on wan ports. I can't say I completely remember or understand how it exactly worked, but it did. The only things that changed was adding a new windows 7 laptop and that Dell printer to the network. I didn't want to have to re-learn everything I went through to get it up and working before when it seems like the problem had to do with the new items added to the network. It seems to me like the DNS isn't working properly for some reason.
    Some network details:
All connected via DHCP unless noted otherwise
    WRT110
    Cable modem via wan.
    Wii console via lan
    Vista Laptop via wlan
    Windows 7 laptop via wlan
    Dell printer via wlan
    WRT54G
Windows XP / ubuntu desktop via lan (Static IP)
xubuntu / Windows XP laptop via wlan (Static IP)
    LG TV via lan
    WRT110 via lan
    WRVS4400N
    Windows XP desktop via lan
    WRT110 via lan
The WRVS4400N hasn't been turned on over the winter as its' connected desktop is not really used any more, but its' wireless is used often in the summer as it's the closest AP to the garage.
Any help on this would be most appreciated as I don't have much hair left to pull out. I'm not opposed to setting up the network from scratch again, but want to know I'd have some guidance before trying to do so again.
    Many Thanks,
    E

Well I didn't get a change to update firmware today unfortunately. Will probably be Monday now as we have company all weekend.
In my hunt for the original guide I used, (from this site) I was unable to find it again. I found others that were not nearly as informative as the one I followed, but didn't explain about the pros and cons of setting it up lan to lan vs. lan to wan. The guide I followed also went into setting up differnt wireless channels and was way more informative than anything I've been able to locate this time around. I would be very appreciative if anyone knew where I could locate this guide again. I'm certain I had it bookmarked, but may have lost it with my HDD failure this past year and wasn't backed up.
Lastly, I realize I "could" use my other router as the main wan router, I just wondered if there was any advantage in doing so. I was also trying to find out which of the 3 routers had the best real world range, as I would use it to get a better connection in my garage.
Thanks again, and regardless I will still report back after the firmware update, and whether it fixed the problem.
