Wireless router WRVS4400NV2 says "No internet Connection"

I am having trouble with connecting to the Internet through the router.  It has worked for 4 years now and all of a sudden it is not working at all.  I was wondering if someone can point me in the direction to getting reconnected.  I have an Internet connection directly to the modem, and I can connect and log into the router admin panel, but it will not allow me to access the Internet through the router either wirelessly or by connecting directly to the router.  All the lights come on and flash like normal and I have done a factory reset and still nothing.  Any help is greatly appreciated.  This is kind of urgent but understand not to press my luck
Thanks
Erik

The_Peacedog,
The modem is a Motorola DSL modem, although, I don't know the model.  I do know that everything works up to the router; wires, modem, etc. as it has all been checked and used for that matter.  The windows version is windows 7, it was hardwired to two computers and 5 other computers/devices were connected wirelessly.  I reset the router to factory and updated the firmware.  All the lights come on, on the modem and look like everything is working, you can connect to the router but no Internet connection.  I am wondering, thought, it was on a really good surge protector not just a power strip but we were experiencing power surges and one night of lighting.  The power surges were different events as they happened on normal days.  Could that have still messed up the modem?
Thanks for your time,
I hope this is enough information
Erik

Depends which iMac exactly and your network setup, you can go into System Preferences and under the Sharing pane you can enable internet sharing from ethernet (or whereever you get your internet from) to Wi-Fi.

My IPOD and Macbook Pro both will not connect to the Itunes store through Itunes says no internet connection, but I can connect through safari and I have a internet connection

As I mentioned above, I am not very tech savvy so I have no idea why a wireless protocol would be showing up there, I'm just listing everything I see in hopes that someone might know something I can try. This is why I am asking for help here - I'm not sure what has happened that has made me unable to connect, especially since it seemingly occured while nobody was using the computer.
I guess I should clarify that I'm not a total hillbilly- normally my firewall is set to 'on', but I set it to 'off' to try and troubleshoot the issues here as I was told that sometimes it can interfere with the computer's ability to connect to the internet. If this is not the case and firewall does not affect anything, I will turn it back on while I try to fix this.
I have tried the method you mentioned above a few times - I actually contacted my ISP earlier this week and they recommended resetting the router like that. They didn't mention any known network issues.

  • Wireless router works - Airport not allowing connection

I am unable to connect to the internet wirelessly using Airport. I have not changed any settings on the modem, nor on my MBP, however, I am now unable to connect wirelessly.
Airport, when not connected using the ethernet shows full signal - I then try to open a webpage (using Safari) and the connection drops out immediately/ it will remain connected but Safari will tell me I'm not connected.
I have searched extensively on this, and found some possible resolutions - resetting the SMC; removing, then adding the Airport connection/ the previous network connection; restarting the router/the MBP - I have tried everything and nothing seems to be working.
I do recall having had this problem a while ago and it just sorted itself out after much frustration.
Does anyone have an actual solution to this problem - perhaps Apple have made themselves aware of the problem and come up with an actual diagnosis and subsequent solution....
    Help please.....

Erm, what do you mean by 'power cycle'?
I have tried restarting everything, and still getting the same problem.
When I first turn my MBP on it registers a full internet connection wirelessly, but then when I load up Safari it says 'no internet connection available'.
    This is tres frustrating.

  • Need to restart router to get an internet connection?

    Hi,
Was wondering if anyone is having the same problem.
I've changed wireless network twice since upgrading to 10.4.6 and each time I've had to restart the router to gain an internet connection.
On joining a wireless network, both have been Netgear routers, I've got valid IP addresses, subnet and router settings but I can't load pages in Safari and Mail can't find POP servers. Even renewing the DHCP lease doesn't solve the issue.
Network Diagnostics shows a green dot on all but ISP and Server. This is the first time I've used these routers so they are not considered a trusted network.
Is there anything I can do the next time this happens to get to the bottom of this?

    Hi Jonnie,
    Let's brake your issues down
1st occasion using computer quite happily on the network then cannot load internet pages and Mail can't find the servers. So I check the connection of the computer to the router. This is fine.
Everytime you loose connection to the Net (Mail won't work, Safari won't open up a webpage etc), always check the Router-to-ISP connection LED first. If the connection from your ISP to the router is OK, start troubleshooting your internal/local network.
I then check the connection of the router to the internet, via the routers set up pages. This appears to be fine, although I could not verify this with another computer.
You don't have to verify it with another computer, if your router status reports something like Connection Up/OK etc, then everything's OK with your ISP.
On the 2nd occasion I opened the computer up and it joined the network, pages don't load and mail isn't connecting to servers. I check the IP address and router settings the router has given the computer and these look ok. I check the router is connected to the internet and this looks ok as well. Again I can't verify this with another computer.
Now let's start isolating the connection issues step by step...
Write down the IP of your router
Write down the IP of your Mac
    Open Applications-->Utilities-->Terminal and type:
    ping -c 3 IPOf_YourRouter (press Return)
Observe the output of the command, if everything goes well the last 3 lines should look like:
    --- 192.xxx.xxx.xxx ping statistics ---
3 packets transmitted, 3 packets received, 0% packet loss
    round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 0.952/1.116/1.414/0.211 ms
post back how it goes to continue to the next step...
Another contributing factor to this might be that this is the first time I've joined these two networks since getting my PowerBook back having had the HD replaced so they were both considered untrusted by the OS.
No, you shouldn't worry about that. You run a very simple network and there's no chance that the HD inside your PB is considered untrusted by the OS (this type of security measure is found on governement/military networks etc). For the same reason you shoundn't worry about the Netgear routers treated as untrusted too. They're fine, it's your network that needs some fine-tuning

    Any error messages?
    Do other devices now connect?
Did the iOS device connect before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on your router
.- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem and it does not connect to any networks make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • Is it possible to print wirelessly (WITHOUT A WI FI INTERNET CONNECTION) .Using my ipad 3 to an HP air printer.

Is it possible to print wirelessly (WITHOUT A WI FI INTERNET CONNECTION) using my ipad3 and a HP air printer ?.

    Christina,
The purpose of the AirPrint system was to permit printing directly from iDevices to printers that are AirPrint enabled without going through an intermediary device.  The catch is the printer must be an AirPrint enabled printer.  The iPad's apps will then recognize the printer and print seamlessly.  Follow the link Demo gave you to see the specifics from HP since that is the printer you asked about using.

  • My "Shop Local" app won't open, says; Checking internet connection

I downloaded the app; "Shop Local"  and it all went fine, but when I tap "ok"  it says "checking internet connection".  All of my other apps work, fine no problem.  How can I get this to work??
I tried deleting it but it reloads from the cloud and I guess I can't start from fresh.

    Is this the app? https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/shop-local/id475372575?mt8
I notice that it was released in Nov. of 2011 and has never been updated (appears to have been designed for iOS 3), plus has a fair number of negative reveiws. The support site appears to be a dead end. If this is the app, I'd recommend deleting it and finding another one.
