Try to adjust the wireless settings on your router...Open an Internet Explorer browser page on your wired computer(desktop). In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1 and press Enter...Leave Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...
Click on the Wireless tab..Set the Radio Band to Standard-20MHz and change the Standard channel to 11-2.462GHz...Click on Advanced Wireless SettingsChange the Beacon Interval to 50,Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304,Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 and Click on Save Settings... Now,check..

  • Wireless very slow and/or unstable after Kernel update to 3.13

I have a "fresh" install from 2 weeks ago. It was installed with Kernel 3.12. I have a rtl8192cu, it was dreadful, so as recommended I installed dkms-8192cu and everything was perfect.
After the upgrade to Kernel 3.13, both with the standard driver and with dkms-8192cu my connection is very slow or unstable.
As an example, in theory I have 20m, with 3.12 I was around 14m. With 3.13 I am around 1m or less, I can barely update my system because:
error: failed retrieving file 's-nail-14.6.1-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz' from archlinux.polymorf.fr : Operation too slow. Less than 1 bytes/sec transferred the last 10 seconds
    Wired everything goes fine.
I cannot downgrade to 3.12 because I need the new radeonsi improvements done with 3.13. I have this computer mostly to play Dota2.

There is an in-kernel driver in staging called rtl8192u. It received a lot of changes in v3.12. Maybe try v3.11 and see if that works?
it didnt work in kernel 3.12, but with https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/dkms-8192cu/ it worked perfect
in kernel 3.13 it is horrible both witht he stock driver or with the AUR package.

  • Time Capsule Wireless very slow

    Hello,
I just installed my TC and it works quite well... but the wireless connection... To do my initial Back-up of 400 Go, it is taking 18 hours... How do I make it work faster?
    Thanks

Assuming that you have setup the Time Capsule to create a network, and that it is connected to your modem using an Ethernet cable, temporarily connect another spare Ethernet cable from your Mac to one of the LAN <--> ports on the Time Capsule.
The backup will go 5-6 times faster this way. Once the initial backup is done, you can disconnect the Ethernet cable and use wireless for incremental backups, which should only take a few minutes on each pass.
However.....if you configured your Time Capsule to connect to your network wirelessly, then the Ethernet ports are not enabled on the Time Capsule, and you will need to backup using wireless.

  • Very Slow Wireless Connection

I bought a while ago a WRT54G V6.0 and although the wired connection works pretty well, the wireless connection is very slow, I have trouble accessing web pages but once it enters a site i can navigate through it without a problem, but when I go to another website I struggle to enter. I have tried updating the router several times, changing the transmission channel and it seems nothing works. could someone please help?

try changing the MTU size on the router ui in the following order .... 1492 , 1452 , 1365 ... check whether it makes any difference ...

  • Macbook Pro wireless is very slow on Campus Network compared to Windows PCs

I noticed that my Macbook Pro is VERY slow using the wireless connection at the Univeristy Campus, I first thought it's the network, but I see my friends with Windows PCs and their connection is blazing fast.
I am using a Macbook Pro 13" with Intel Core 2 Duo CPU 4 GB Memory with OS X Lion installed.
I have tried Safari, Chrome and Firefox and they all are equally slow.
I know from the Campus Tech Support that they are using Cisco Enterprise Routers, which used to have issues crashing Mac computers when they get connected. But since Lion this problem seems to be resolved.
I still think that my Mac should not be that much slower on a wireless network than my friends Windows machines. I did a speedtest on my Mac and I got speeds of below 500kbits/s where my friend achieved 38mbits/s on a Windows 7 Netbook with intel Atom CPU and 2 GB RAM, both tests were done on Firefox. Even when I tether my phone through wireless hotspot I get faster speeds.

When did this difference begin?  Did you make any recent changes?

  • Very Slow Wireless on New MacBook Pro

Hi just bought a 13' MacBook pro about a week ago. Immediatley from getting it my wireless internet is very slow. We have a few other pc's in the house that use the same router and they all run fine on the wireless, even our phones run great. When I am plugged in with the ethernet cable the internet seems to work fine but as soon as I am wireless it takes forever. Pages will take minutes to load up. I was on the phone with mac support and what they did didn't seem to fix the problem. I am getting so frustrated and would really like any help. Thank you.

In the Belkin config, have you got 'Protected Mode' On or Off? (Wireless > Channel and SSID > Protected Mode) It's generally faster Off unless a lot of 802.11b devices on your network.
Packet loss or packet re-ordering might cause that drop, as might a high MTU value, but it's hard to troubleshoot ...
(I'm using a Belkin G+MIMO and getting as fast/same performance as hard wired machines)

  • Wireless Internet connection very slow

The wireless connection has gotten very slow. I have restarted the modem but that has not improved the connection. I am about to restart the TC and see if that improves the connection. What is the best way to shut the TC down and restart it? The only way I know is to unplug for 15 seconds and then put the plug back in.
    Thanks

    Try the following ...
o Power-down the modem, Time Capsule (TC), and computer(s); wait at least 10-15 minutes. Order is not critical.
o Power-on the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes.
o Plug-in the TC; wait at least 5-10 minutes.
    o Power-on the computer(s).

  • Wireless N connection very slow

I was running my wireless router at home (internet through Comcast) in mixed mode (b/g/n), and noticed that my S3's download speed when on the wireless seemed very slow. I confirmed this using speedtest.net (the android app) and saw a very big difference between the S3 on the wireless router and my laptop. I tested my wife's laptop and S3 as well, with the same results. (The laptops consistently got 20Mbps down while the S3s both got around 1.8Mpbs down.) The 4g LTE speeds were incredible, but since I'm on a data cap now, I can't use that for the majority of what I want to do with the phone.
After some testing, I found that if I disabled N altogether on my router, our S3s connect and get the same speeds as our laptops. Now my router runs only in 2.4Ghz band, and I have not had a chance to test my N connection on a 5Ghz band. For whatever reason, the Verizon version of the S3 does not have a setting where you can tell the phone what band to connect to, but from what I've read it only connects at 2.4. I'm going to try some more testing to see if this is in fact the case or not.
Anywho, I'm now getting good download speeds connecting in mode G, but I'm kind of bummed that Verizon has (surprise surprise) limited the phone in this way. AT&T and Sprint customers I've talked to are able to connect to Wireless N, and though some of them have problems if the band is set in auto mode, if they specifically choose the band their router is running in, it works just fine. Don't get me wrong, I choose to be with Verizon and generally am happy with the service (losing unlimited data notwithstanding), but I just don't understand why they took away the ability to control the wireless connection in this way. Its doesn't make sense.

First of all, the speeds you are quoting all sound like Mbps (megabits per second) connection speeds, not data throughput speeds.  You really need to measure your actual download speed to tell what is actually going on with your system.
Use speedtest.net and test your system.  Turn off all other computers except the test computer.  Test under the following conditions:
    1)  connect one computer, by wire, directly to your modem
    2)  connect the same computer, by wire, directly to your router
    3)  connect the same computer wireless to your router
    4)  connect your other computers, wirelessly to the router, one at a time
Also, state the speed that you are paying your ISP for.
Report your download and upload speeds for all of the above tests.
Note that the speed that you are paying for should be about the same as your results from test 1 and 2 above.
After you have done these tests, it will be much easier to tell where the problem is.

  • B210a is very slow started to print wirelessly

I recently purchased a B210a which I'm using wirelessly from my Apple iPhone, iPad, and a Mac. It takes over a minute to start printing from any of these devices. I've now connected a cable from my iMac and it is still very slow starting. Any suggestions?

Tell me about your network - router brand/model, encryption type (WEP, WPA, etc) and ISP type (DSL, Cable, etc).

  • MacBook Pro 2010: very slow wireless connection

I know a number of people have posted similar questions, but I think I've done everything I can to fix this.
I bought a 13 inch MacBook Pro last week, and found I was getting a very slow connection to my wireless network. OK when I was right next to the base station, but very slow in another room (the room I want to use it in).
I checked with speedtest.net, which showed I was getting download speeds of around 0.3 Mbps - although, curiously, it showed upload speeds of 1.5 Mbps. I ran my old MacBook in the same room, on the same wireless connection, and consistently got speeds of over 10 Mbps. So it can't be the network that's causing the issue.
After an hour on the phone with tech support, I took the Mac back to the Apple Store, where I was unable to get any wireless connection whatever. They exchanged it for a new machine. Worked fine in the store - but when I got it home, I was still getting very slow speeds. The old MacBook still outperforms it by at least a factor of ten. All the system software is up to date.
Is this a dodgy batch? Or has the wireless range dropped considerably with the new MacBooks?

You're right - there are a lot of issues about MBP WiFi. I think there's a major problem with it.
If there was a ..."major problem with it" you would see more complaints than wifi just being among the top 10 discussion items in a trouble shooting forum. There are millions of MBP users many of whom, like myself, use wifi every day without issue.
Your statement "They exchanged it for a new machine. Worked fine in the store - but when I got it home, I was still getting very slow speeds." would lead one to suspect maybe interference from some source or a configuration issue rather than a "major problem".
You probably already tried changing the channel, resetting your router, changing the security scheme, elimination possible sources of interference, separating your components (router, computer, external monitor, ...), etc. but maybe starting over with a default configuration will help isolate the problem.

My 2nd generation Airport Extreme very slow via wireless (5 and belows mbps) wired over 20. Please help! What could it be?

It is very possible that you may have some form of Wi-Fi interference nearby that is preventing your AEBSn from providing a clean RF signal on the 2.4 GHz band.
I suggest you perform a simple site survey, using utilities like iStumbler, or AirRadar to determine potential areas of interference, and then, try to either eliminate or significantly reduce them where possible.

  • WRT54G very SLOW Wireless

    All-
I hope someone can help me with this problem.  I have a WRT54G v8 router and a PC with Vista.  My ISP is Comcast, and I am paying for 12 Mbps.  When I plug my computer directly into the modem or router I get speeds usually about 6 Mbps, sometimes up to 8 or 10 Mbps.  However, when I connect to the internet through my wireless connection it is VERY SLOW.  The connection is only about 200-400 Kbps.  I have all ready spoken to one of the technicians at Linksys.  They advised me to change the following settings:
On the setup tab, Make MTU "Manual" and size 1365.
On the Wireless tab, set to Channel 11.
On the advanced wireless settings, set Beacon Interval 50 and Fragmentation Threshold and DTIM Interval to 2304.
In the Security Tab, uncheck "Block Anonymous Internet Requests" box.
I made these changes, but my connection is still very slow (380 Kbps).
    Help!
    Thanks!

  • Cisco Aironet 1200 wireless network very slow

I have a simple wireless network set up, 2 - Cisco Aironet 1200 AIR-AP1220B-A-K9 wireless access points with 2 dBi Diversity Omni directional Ceiling Mount Antennas. They are the only devices connected to a Multitech Routfinder router, the WAN side the router is connected to a dedicated DSL connection. They are powered by AIR-PWRINJ3 power injectors. The WAP get the IP address from the DHCP in the router.
When connecting to the wireless network it runs very very slow, the signal strength is excellent and the connection speed is 54 mbps. But when opening a web browser it takes for ever to load a simple page like msn.com. If I connect the notebook directly to the router it runs very fast. We have tested with several notebooks and have the same problem. When I view the available wireless networks in range the only two that show up are the two Cisco 1200 WAP.
I have done the following with no improvement:
Change the channels from auto to 6 on one and 11 on the other.
    Reset to factory defaults.
    Update the firmware to c1200-k9w7-tar.123-7.JA2.tar

    Thanks for the info.
The documentation say not to switch from auto to full duplex or half duplex when using inline power, well I think it says the AP may reboot. I may have tried half duplex before I upgraded the firmware.
While upgrading I disconnected the AP, used a patch cord to connect it to the router and pluged the power directly into it to make sure the wiring to the AP was not the problem and it did the same thing.
However, when trying to upgrade the firmware it took ~ 45 minuets to upload the image and filed a couple of times retrying. I connected the AP to the notebook directly with a crossover cable and it uploaded in about 45 seconds.
That got me to thinking that there may be a problem with the router so I have replaced it with a Linksys.
In the mean time the DSL went down yesterday so I have not been able to test the new setup.
