With an adaptive plug, can I just plug in my iPad and iPhone to a European electrical outlet without a transformer that reduces their 240V. power to our US 110V.?

With just an adaptive plug for European outlets, can I just plug in my iPad for recharging to the 240V. electircal power outlet without a transformer to reduce the power to our US 110V. power? Same thing for iPhone too?

All of Apple's chargers work from 100-240VAC, 50-60Hz power. You just need the plug adapter.

All I can suggest is that you open that file on the MBA and save it as a new file, then see if you can open the new one on the iMac.

  • Can I update more than one iPad and iPhone from the same MacBook pro?

Can I update more than one iPad and iPhone to ios 5 from the same MacBook pro? Our family has one MacBook pro and several iphones and ipads.  No one wants to lose their iTunes music or contact list or calendars.

Yes, but you will want to think it through before you do it.
The computer will become the "master" device, holding the definitive collection of music, photos, contacts, etc., and each iPad or iPhone will get a copy of what's on the computer. So if  everyone has different collections of music or photos that you all want to keep separate from each other, you'll want to set up different accounts on the MacBook Pro. To do that, go into "System Preferences" and click "Users", then click the "+" to create a new account for each person who needs their own set of files.
That way you can each log in to your own MacBook account before you sync your iPhone or iPad, and everyone has their own copy of iTunes and their own iPhoto. If you happen to plug in an iPhone while logged into someone else's account, you just click "don't sync" (the 1st time only, it will remember after that). Sharing the same files becomes tricky, so this is only the best method if you want to keep things 100% separate.
On the other hand, if you all have your music and photos mishmashed together on the MacBook anyway or just don't care about keeping things separate, just go ahead and sync your iPhones and iPads without setting up new accounts. But in this case, you should create playlists and photo albums in iTunes and iPhoto. Then plug in an iPhone, click on it's icon in iTunes, and change the settings for Music, Photos, etc to only sync the playlists that you want on that device. Repeat for each one. They'll all remember their own settings, and continue to sync with their designated playlists or albums.
What you cannot do is use more than one computer with a single iPhone. That will wipe out the music and photos that were on it already, replacing them with the ones on the second computer.

Have you synced your iPhone by plugging it in to iTunes and letting the sync complete?

  • Can someone help me backup my ipad and iphone?

I've been through the iWars somewhat, and am getting to the point where I might just throw this stuff away - I hope someone can help me through this.
My final objective is to upgrade my iPad and iPhone with minimal disruption to their primary user (my wife).
In order to do this, I want to back them up.
I've been having issues with both my iPhone and iPad due to applications installed with various Apple IDs, one of which is over 10 years old and from before the time they switched to using email addresses. I tried to abandon that ID some time ago, so now I don't know the password or security questions/etc/etc and attempting to use the Apple support web sites failed because :
    1) Attempting to use the US support site failed because they won't accept standard international phone numbers and I don't have a US-based one (I moved from there ~10 years ago)
    2) Attempting to use the UK support site failed because (I guess) they're asleep (I'm currently on a business trip in China)
    3) Attempting to use the Chinese support site failed because it's only in Chinese and I can't read Chinese, and the site is as slow as molasses.
So, I've given up that for now. I think the Apple ID issue is mostly about the iPhone (I got that first) so I'll concentrate on the iPad for now.
When I connect the iPad to my MacBook Air, and it mentions that it has old s/w and asks if I want to update...I want to back it up first so I say 'later'. This is how it goes :
    1) click in the ipad entry in the 'devices' list
    2) click 'back up now' to 'this computer'
2a) it tells me that there are apps on my ipad which are not in my itunes library and asks if I would like to back them up from my ipad.
    3) click 'back up apps'
3a) it tells me that there are purchased on my ipad which are not in my itunes library and asks if I would like to transfer them from my ipad.
    4) click 'transfer purchases'
4a) it says 'syncing' and 'transfering' and it then goes back to idle...seems like it worked, but there's no message to say anything...apart from 'latest backup' which has a time that is basically 'now'....implying success, I'd say.
So, now I try to 'update'
    5) click 'update'
5a) it now tells me that there are purchased items on my ipad that have not been transferred to my itunes library, that I should transfer these items before updating and asks me if I want to continue.
    6) click 'cancel'.
    ==============
so, that seems to be in a bit of a loop to me...
What am I supposed to do there?
    Max.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Just drag them to your open iTunes window.

  • Can you share iTunes libraries between iPad and iPhone?

I know how to share libraries between my MacBook or iMac and my iPad and/or my iPhone. My question is, can you share your iTunes libraries between your iPad and iPhone only, without using a computer?  I wanted to share movies between my iPhone and iPad in Europe over wi fi so I could take more on two devices.  Does iCloud support videos?

There are no iTunes libraries on the iPad or iPhone. You have iTunes content on the devices but not libraries. The content is stored in the respective apps as you well know. AFAIK there is no way to share the content from one device to the other using any iOS feature in the current sysetm.

You don't need a computer (other than to set this hard drive and and transfer the content), but it is one more device that you have to lug around with you.

  • Can I backup two devices (with different documents) to one iCloud account?  For example: iPad and iPhone, not everything is synced between the two, but I would like to backup each (seperately in the cloud), is this possible?

    Hello Apple Community,
Can I backup two devices (with different documents) to one iCloud account?
For example: iPad Air and iPhone 5, not everything is synced between the two, but I would like to backup each (seperately in the cloud).  Is this possible?
This way when I change from an old ipad to a new, I can restore with the ipad backup, and when I change from an old iphone to a new, I can restore from the
    iphone backup.
    Thank you in advance!

Terminology check here. Do you really mean a "CD"?  There's a difference in Cloud behavior between content from a physical CD you ripped (which only has Cloud content if you have iTunes Match) and an "album" you bought from the iTunes Store.
    Read references for Home Sharing.
iTunes: How to share music and video - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2688 - about Music Sharing and Home Sharing
Home Sharing Support page - http://www.apple.com/support/homesharing/
iOS: Setting up Home Sharing on your device - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4557 - "With Home Sharing in iOS 4.3 or later, you can stream your entire iTunes library over your home Wi-Fi network from your Mac or PC right to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch."
The above can get pretty complicated.  You are probably best off by syncing both devices to a single library and/or updating the libraries on both computers to have the same content.

  • I have iPad, my wife's iPone 4 and my new iPhone 4s all on iOS 5 and using the same Apple account. That is convenient in many ways except I can't use iMessage from my iPad and iPhone to my wife's iPhome. Any solution?

When iMessage is enabled on all 3 devices, they just seem to mirror all iMessage conversations on all of them. Can I configure iMessage for my wife's iPhone such that it becomes a separate entity with that respect while staying on the same Appte account with other our devices?

Actually, there is a solution, and it sounds to go against what you want until you realize how well it works.
Seperate Apple IDs is the solution, but you can granularly sign into different things with different IDs.  Now, I'm in the exact same situation as you and saw the exact same problem.  Here was our solution:
    1) Create new Apple IDs for everyone that didn't already have one.  This meant my wife and daughter needed new IDs.
    2) Go into Settings -> Message and select "Receive At..."
    3) Change the Apple ID in iMessage on a per-device basis to the new ID for who ever owns that device.  For example, the new ID for my wife went on her phone, same with my daughter.
Apple IDs are free, and you don't have to change the ID on every part of your phone.  For example, we still have the generic family ID on iCloud and the store, but we have our own unique ones signed in on iMessage and Game Center.  From what I can tell, this is the best of both worlds.

  • I just purchased a Macbook, iPad, and iPhone and I am trying to sync my iTunes library from my Windows laptop.  How can I sync my iTunes library to all devices?

I just recently purchased a MacBook Pro (13 inch with Retina display), an iPad Air 2, and an iPhone 6 plus.  Before these purchases, I was using a Windows 7 laptop to manage my iTunes library and iTunes purchases.  I am in need of syncing my iTunes library on my iPod classic (160 GB) with all of my new Apple devices.  How can I sync my iTunes library with all of my new devices?

Devices can only sync to one library at a time. You can, however, have multiple copies of libraries on different computers though it can be tricky making sure they are always synchronized.  You can put your Windows iTunes on your Mac.
Moving a library: Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its sub-folders and files) intact to the other drive.  Hold down the option (alt) key (shift on Windows) and open iTunes.  At the prompt to create or choose a library choose the copied iTunes folder.
When this is to a new computer put the copied iTunes folder in the default location of Macintosh HD > Users > *User Name* > Music  then you don't even need to start with the option key held down, iTunes will automatically look for it there.  (Make sure there isn't anything already in the iTunes folder there that you want to keep since you will be replacing it with the one you are moving.)
