WITH clause, Oracle, UNION problem

I have a table with two fields, SYSTEM and DATEOPENED.  It's basically a log of events.
For each row, I need to calculate how much time has elapsed between one row and the next for the same system.
Basically, when I execute this directly against the database (replacing parameters with actual TO_DATE('...','...')), this works flawlessly.
The problem when I run this in Crystal Reports is that the WHERE clause of the CUMULATIVE portion of the UNION is completely ignored.  I get ALL the data from the database for the CUMULATIVE.
I inverted both portions of the UNION (DISCRETE first and CUMULATIVE second), which had the result of completely removing the CUMULATIVE portion of the result set.
I'm using Crystal Reports 11.5.0.313 (XI R2)
The query looks like this:
WITH ACCT_DATA AS (
  SELECT SYSTEM, Round(DateOpened,'IW') WeekDate, Sum(IsUDRWithinThreshold) CNT_WITHINTHRESHOLD, Count(1) CNT
  FROM (
    SELECT SYSTEM, DateOpened, (
      CASE
WHEN SYSTEM='system1' AND ((Lead (DateOpened,1) over (PARTITION BY SYSTEM ORDER BY SYSTEM, DateOpened))-DateOpened)*24 < 5 THEN 1
WHEN SYSTEM='system2' AND ((Lead (DateOpened,1) over (PARTITION BY SYSTEM ORDER BY SYSTEM, DateOpened))-DateOpened)*24 < 5 THEN 1
WHEN SYSTEM='system3' AND ((Lead (DateOpened,1) over (PARTITION BY SYSTEM ORDER BY SYSTEM, DateOpened))-DateOpened)*24 < 9 THEN 1
        ELSE 0
      END
    ) IsUDRWithinThreshold
    FROM  ACCT_FILES
    WHERE SYSTEM IN ('system1','system2','system3')
    AND Round(DateOpened,'YYYY')=Round({?ToDate},'YYYY')
  GROUP BY SYSTEM, Round(DateOpened,'IW')
  ORDER BY SYSTEM, Round(DateOpened,'IW')
SELECT 'CUMULATIVE' DATA_TYPE, d1.SYSTEM, d1.WeekDate, Sum(d2.CNT_WITHINTHRESHOLD) CNT_WITHINTHRESHOLD, Sum(d2.CNT) CNT
FROM ACCT_DATA d1 INNER JOIN ACCT_DATA d2 ON d1.SYSTEM=d2.SYSTEM AND d2.WeekDate<=d1.WeekDate
WHERE d1.WeekDate BETWEEN {?FromDate} AND {?ToDate}
GROUP BY d1.SYSTEM, d1.WeekDate
UNION
SELECT 'DISCRETE' DATA_TYPE, SYSTEM, WeekDate, CNT_WITHINTHRESHOLD, CNT
FROM ACCT_DATA
WHERE WeekDate BETWEEN {?FromDate} AND {?ToDate}
ORDER BY DATA_TYPE, SYSTEM, WeekDate

Hello,
First, you can't use that SQL directly in Crystal Reports unless you are using a Command object. In which case CR does not modify the SQL at all. It may be due to multiple results sets in which case CR will have problems logically with this type of SQL.
what happens if you use SQLPlus to test the SQL and results?
Also, before doing any of that you are using the original release of Crystal Reports XI R2. Go to the Businessobjects tab above and download SP4, full build. Easier than applying all of the incremental patches but it does require you to un-install CR first.
Test again, if you still get the same problem then do more debugging.
Also note in you reply what DB driver you are using, ODBC, OLE DB etc., and who's driver, Oracle's DataDirect, Microsoft etc.?
Thank you
Don

thanks in advance..Well, i don't see anything about these queries that makes sense.
You are essentially joining emp and dept on EMPNO to DEPTNO ... that doesn't usually make any sense.
How about you step back from the query which is almost certainly incorrect, and explain your tables, their data and what you need as output?
    Cheers,

  • WITH Clause query doesn't work in Oracle Reports.

    Hi Gurus,
I'm using a WITH clause query and need to build a report using the same query.
But when i'm trying to build a report, query is giving error as "WITH clause table or view doesn't exists".
But the same query perfectly works in sql prompt.
Oracle Reports doesn't supports WITH clause query?
    Please suggest.
    Thanks,
    Onkar

I ran into a similar problem before and worked around it by moving the query to a pipelined function in the database as described at WITH clause unexpectedly causes ORA-00942 in Reports Builder
    Hope this helps.

  • Bug in WITH clause (subquery factoring clause) in Oracle 11?

I'm using WITH to perform a set comparison in order to qualify a given query as correct or incorrect regarding an existing solution. However, the query does not give the expected result - an empty set - when comparing the solution to itself in Oracle 11 whereas it does in Oracle 10. A minimal example os posted below as script. There are also some observations about changes to the tables or the query that make Oracle 11 returning correct results but in my opinion these changes must not change the semantics of the queries.
Is this a bug or am I getting something wrong? The Oracle versions are mentioned in the script.

You're all gonna love this one.....
The WITH clause works. But not easily.
Go ahead, build the query, (as noted in a recent thread, I, too, always use views), set the grants and make sure DISCOVERER and EULOWNER have SELECT privs.
    1. Log into Disco Admin as EULOWNER. Trust me.
    2. Add the view as a folder to the business area.
    3. Log into Disco Desktop as EULOWNER. Don't laugh. It gets better.
    4. Build the workbook and the worksheet (or just the worksheet if apropos)
    5. Set the appropriate "sharing" roles and such
    6. Save the workbook to the database.
    7. Save the workbook to your computer.
    8. Log out of Desktop.
    9. Log back into Desktop as whatever, whoever you usually are to work.
    10. elect "open existing workbook"
    11. Select icon for "open from my computer". See? I told you it would get better!
    12. Open the save .dis file from your computer.
    13. Save it to the database.
    14. Open a web browser and from there, you're on your own.
Fortran in VMS. Much easier and faster. I'm convinced the proliferation of the web is a detriment to the world at large...On the other hand, I'm also waiting for the Dodgers to return to Brooklyn.

  • WITH clause equivalent in oracle 8i

    Hi friends,
The "WITH" clause is very well supported in Oracle 9i. Is there any equivalent ways to use it in Oracle 8i?
    Regards
    J.B

    Dear J. B.!
No, there isn't an equivalent for WITH in Oracle 8i. The only workaround for you is to build inline views in the FROM-Clause of your statements. Please have a look at the following link. It shows some example using a WITH-Clause and the equivalent SQL-Statements with an inline view.

  • Oracle SID Problems with numbers

    Hi everybody,
I created a new database (ORACLE 10g) with the SID name IC71 and the same global database name. After finishing the configuration and starting the database everything worked fine.
Now I installed the Oracle Client on another server machine. I made an entry in the tnsnames.ora with the Servicename IC71 and it worked. The problem now is, that I have to give the SID instead of the Servicename for installing some software. With the SID IC71 it does not work, after I changed the SID to IC it works.
Can someone explain me this strange settings? Has Oracle problems with numbers in the SID name?

Has Oracle problems with numbers in the SID name? Not at all. I often use numbers in SIDs, and I've never had problems with that. Your problem has to be elsewhere.
With the SID IC71 it does not workWhich error do you get ?

  • Strange problem with an Oracle database link to SQL Server

    Hi gurus,
Please help me on this problem.
We have an Oracle 10R2 database link to a SQL Server 2000 database. I can select count(*) from The_SQL_Server_Table@myOracleLink, and I can describe The_SQL_Server_Table@myOracleLink, but I cannot select Column1 from The_SQL_Server_Table@myOracleLink! I am getting the ORA-00904: "COLUMN1": invalid identifier error.
Could anyone tell me what is wrong here? By the way, the same user name can select all the columns in The_SQL_Server_Table through ODBC from the client app. But I need the DB link to work with some Oracle stored functions.
    Thank you!
    Ben
