WLC 2500 AP discovery problem
Hi,
I have successfully connected my WLC 2500 controller with 20 light weight Access points 1262N.
I have used the internal DHCP server option in the controller for the AP's and client.
Port 1 of the WLC is trunked with the switch 2960. All is working fine
The problem comes when I remove the Ethernet cable from the management interface and restart the WLC. The AP's don't come back. If I don't restart the WLC the AP's remain.
On the other hand, when I leave the Ethernet cable connected to the management port with my pc and then reboot the WLC, the AP's appear.
Seems like whenever im not physically connected to the management port of the WLC and restart it, the AP's don't come back. The only way to make them come back again is to connect my PC to the management port.
Please help me. What seems to be the problem here ?
Best Regards,
Hi,
All 20 Pc;s are in one area connected to the same AP im assuming. The PC;s are stationary, so didnt check for roaming, but generally my laptop connectivity is fine while roaming. It rarely disconnects but users have complained that it did disconncect a few times.
Please see below the WLC configuration:

Hi,
I have WLC 2500 with firmware 7.4.121.0. Problem is with multicasting (or media streaming). One big boss wants his camera communicate with tablet, ant this communication requires multicast.
In MONITOR-> Multicast I can devices trying to communicate but nothing happens. I found some guides how to configure multicast for video or voice, but I have no luck with them.
Perhaps someone had luck with such configuration?
Thanks.Hi
See whether below helps (these are with wlc 7.0 code, but I think not much differences in 7.4 compare to 7.0). Refer specific configuration guide for exact syntax
http://mrncciew.com/2012/12/24/understanding-videostream-feature/

Make sure your wired network also support multicast.

Cisco WLC 2500 - 802.1x with Vasco Radius SMS OTP
Hello folks,
I have what seems to be a complex implementation with many things that need to be done on a customers network and I wanted to be pointed in the right direction.
The current scenario is such, the customer has a Cisco WLC 2500 device that has 3 access points(these are in the same AP group) connected to it. There is one SSID that I will call PRODUCTION here that some domain users use to connect to the local network. The customer has requested to have a GUEST SSID added to the WLC where guest users will connect to and recieve a SMS OTP for authentication.
Correct me if I am wrong, but I will obviously need to segment the SSIDs to have them running on different subnets to ensure that guest users do not have access to the production network once they authenticate. In order to do this I will need to configure Dynamic VLAN assignment for the Cisco WLC and connect it to a 802.1x port on the switch.
Now what is not clear is I am not interested in authenticating the users that connect via "Production SSID" and want to bypass authentication for those users and have them assigned to the default vlan (or maybe perhaps have them authenticate via LDAP on the AD), however I want to force the "GUEST" SSID users to authenticate so that they may recieve an SMS OTP (reason for this is to force guests to register their phone numbers to use the internet so that Illegal activity may be tracked).
1)So would it be possible to bypass authentication(or authenticate them via LDAP) for the PRODUCTION SSID as only domain users would know the SSID password to log on and have them by default assigned to the production subnet (default vlan) but force the GUEST SSID users to another VLAN via 802.1x sms otp?
2)*Important* Another issue that is not clear is will I be able to directly configure AAA Radius settings on the Cisco WLC to directly authenticate with the VASCO Radius OTP and recieve a challenge-response(required for OTP) during authentication? As I have seen from Ciscos Dynamic VLAN assignment docuementation (http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk722/tk809/technologies_configuration_example09186a008076317c.shtml) additional IETF Radius Perimeters are used such as Tunnel-Private-Group-ID etc are used which I can't seem to configure on the Vasco.
I do beileve this is a great project in helping me understand the INs and OUTs of CISCO WLC as well as Wireless NAC, If anyone could enlighten me and point me in the right direction I would be forever in debt. Much appreciated.
Best Regards
Sinan Barghouthi - JNCIA-FWV , JNCIA-IDP , CCA-NS , TCSM-8.0On your WLAN you can enable AES and TKIP. Just know that some clients mau have issue when they see both TKIP and AES. Ive had pretty good success with this in the past. Dont forget, you also need to enable WMM allowed to get N rates.
But you will need to configure AES on the client as well to support N rates.

Identity Services Engine (ISE) support for the WLC 2500
Is the ISE going to support the 2500 series Wireless LAN Controller WLC? If yes in what release and appriximately when is that due to be released?
Your question is disturbing. ISE is (amongst other things) a radius server. WLC 2500 can use radius servers for authentication. So it's supported.
Any device doing radius is supported with ISE ...
Now you are maybe referring to a particular feature in ISE ? -
hello
i have a question about a cisco wlc 2500.
when you configure a interface on the controller, you can set a ip address
mask en DHCP server address but also you can set the interface as a AP-Manager
why is this?
thanksOn the old WLC models like 2100, 2006,4400 we had to configure the management interface for managing the WLC and the AP manager so that the APs could create the LWAPP or CAPWAP tunnel to the WLC.
On the new model of WLCs like the 2500,5508 the AP manager interface is not required, the management interface if it has the check for dynamic interface it will work at the same time as the AP manager interface.
Here is the link where you can check on how to deploy the 2504 WLC and the different setups to use with several AP managers.

Can someone tell me if there is Splash Page feature in the 2500 WLC ? I cannot find any Cisco document which says it has that feature ?
Yes, Its available.
Here is a link that points to a configuration guide for a wlc 2500, 7.5.

3702i AP's not Joining WLC - Layer 3 discovery request not received on management VLAN
Hi Guys,
This is a follow up post to this thread: https://supportforums.cisco.com/discussion/12400481/3702i-not-joint-2504
Have been playing around with my AP's and made sure the time is correct on all the devices ( WLC and Switch). I have also moved the AP's to the same Vlan as the management IP of the WLC.
if I move the AP's to the same Vlan as the WLC they join and are happy, as soon as I move them to a different Vlan they cant join and there time goes back to the default plus they do not seem to save the WLC details to flash but still remember the test names I give them.
it appears that option 43 is working fine as I can see it look for the WLC IP and I have done some trouble shooting on the WLC and it looks like it see's the AP but doesn't except it.
please see below for the boot up of the AP and the WLC logs:

I'm a native spanish Speaker -
I am currently setting up a 4402 controller and lwapps. Our wireless right now is all managed by corp and is a combination of autonomous and lwapp. Here is my problem.
I have setup option43 in my dhcp scope. When I connect a fresh radio to the same subnet as the controller I see that the radio goes to the controller but then there is a message and the radio goes to the corp controller.
Here is the boot log from a new radio.
%LWAPP-3-CLIENTEVENTLOG: Controller address 10.200.190.10(MINE) obtained through DHCP
%LWAPP-3-CLIENTEVENTLOG: Did not get log server settings from DHCP.
%LWAPP-3-CLIENTEVENTLOG: Performing DNS resolution for CISCO-LWAPP-CONTROLLER.gtna.gt.ds
%LWAPP-3-CLIENTEVENTLOG: Controller address 10.148.198.7(CORP) obtained through DNS
I see that message about a log server. Did I miss something?
thanks
tonyHi Guys,
I just thought that I would link this info for the LWAPP Layer 3 startup. +5 points for both Wesley and Leo for your ongoing great work here :)
The LWAPP AP goes through this process on startup for Layer 3 mode:
The LAP boots and DHCPs an IP address if it was not previously assigned a static IP address.
The LAP sends discovery requests to controllers through the various discovery algorithms and builds a controller list. Essentially, the LAP learns as many management interface addresses for the controller list as possible via:
DHCP option 43 (good for global companies where offices and controllers are on different continents)
DNS entry for âcisco-lwapp-controllerâ (good for local businesses - can also be used to find where brand new APs join)
Management IP addresses of controllers the LAP remembers previously
A Layer 3 broadcast on the subnet
Over the air provisioning
Statically configured information
From this list, the easiest method to use for deployment is to have the LAPs on the same subnet as the management interface of the controller and allow the LAP's Layer 3 broadcast to find the controller. This method should be used for companies that have a small network and do not own a local DNS server.
The next easiest method of deployment is to use a DNS entry with DHCP. You can have multiple entries of the same DNS name. This allows the LAP to discover multiple controllers. This method should be used by companies that have all of their controllers in a single location and own a local DNS server. Or, if the company has multiple DNS suffixes and the controllers are segregated by suffix.
DHCP option 43 is used by large companies to localize the information via the DHCP. This method is used by large enterprises that have a single DNS suffix. For example, Cisco owns buildings in Europe, Australia, and the United States. In order to ensure that the LAPs only join controllers locally, Cisco cannot use a DNS entry and must use DHCP option 43 information to tell the LAPs what the management IP address of their local controller is.
Finally, static configuration is used for a network that does not have a DHCP server. You can statically configure the information necessary to join a controller via the console port and the AP's CLI. For information on how to statically configure controller information using the AP CLI, refer to Manually Configuring Controller Information Using the Access Point CLI.
For a detailed explanation on the different discovery algorithms that LAPs use to find controllers, refer to LAP Registration with WLC.
For information on configuring DHCP option 43 on a DHCP server, refer to DHCP OPTION 43 for Lightweight Cisco Aironet Access Points Configuration Example.
Send a discovery request to every controller on the list and wait for the controller's discovery reply which contains the system name, AP-manager IP addresses, the number of APs already attached to each AP-manager interface, and overall excess capacity for the controller.
Look at the controller list and send a join request to a controller in this order (only if the AP received a discovery reply from it):
Primary Controller system name (previously configured on LAP)
Secondary Controller system name (previously configured on LAP)
Tertiary Controller system name (previously configured on LAP)
Master controller (if the LAP has not been previously configured with any Primary, Secondary, or Tertiary controller names. Used to always know which controller brand new LAPs join)

Can't get radio measurements on WLC 2500 to work
Hi all,
I have 2 lightweight APs (AIR-CAP1602I-E-K9) connected to a wireless lan controller 2500. I am trying to enable radio measurements, however after configuring the WLC, RM status is still reported as disabled. I used this document http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/controller/7-4/configuration/guides/consolidated/b_cg74_CONSOLIDATED/b_cg74_CONSOLIDATED_chapter_010000111.html#ID2037 to configure the WLC.
Here is my current config:
1. CCX-Lite is enabled
> show run-config
CCX-lite status ............................ Enabled
2. AeronetIESupport for the wlan of interest is enabled
> show wlan 14
CCX - AironetIe Support.......................... Enabled
3. RM is enabled globally
> show advanced 802.11a ccx global
802.11a Client Beacon Measurements:
enabled with (interval=60) seconds
4. RM is enabled for the AP
> show advanced 802.11a ccx ap AP_1
802.11a Client Beacon Measurements for Cisco AP:
enabled with (interval=60) seconds
However, when requesting the RM status on the controller, every type of measurement is shown as disabled:
> show ap ccx rm AP_1 status

A Radio
Beacon Request................................. Disabled
Channel Load Request........................... Disabled
Frame Request.................................. Disabled
Noise Histogram Request........................ Disabled
Path Loss Request.............................. Disabled

When checking the client RM status, I get the following results:
> show client ccx rm Client_MAC status
Client not in the unicast rm list
> show client ccx rm Client_MAC report beacon
Client not configured for ccx rm
> show client detail Client_MAC
Client CCX version............................... 6
CCX Foundation Service version................... 1
CCX Management Service version................... Not Available
CCX Voice Service version........................ Not Available
CCX Location Service version..................... Not Available
My questions are:
1. Is there an extra config on the WLC to enable Radio Measurements?
2. Why is the client reported as having RM disabled?
3. Are there any additional client configurations that must be done?
Thank you.Welcome to Discussions, heather2910

(1) Consider the FaceTime troubleshooting suggestions in this article:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4319
(2) If your FaceTime works to some of your FaceTime friends but not to others, those who show "unavailable" may merely not have their FaceTime turned on so they can receive calls.

CiscoWorks LMS 3.2 device driver discovery problem
Hi,
We have many devices Cisco 3825 on our network. For some of them, the device driver is correctly discovered but not for others.

I didn't see any new device driver package on Cisco site.
Does somebody has an idea ?
Many thanks,
Fabien GIRAUDI'm not sure I clearly understand the problem. Are you saying that some 3825s are not being discovered by Common Services Discovery? If so, are they showing up as unreachable, or are they not showing up at all in the Discovery reports?

Discovery problem in LMS 4.0.1
Hello all,
I have a problem discovering some ASA firewalls on a network. I have several ASA firewalls on this /24 network, but some of them I can't discover e.g 149.x.x.107 is discovered ok, but 149.x.x.20 I can't discover. It seems that it's not even trying to discover the devices I have problems with. Nothing is shown in the discovery log
I hope someone can help me.
Thanks in advanceIf I ping the firewalls, then I can see all the firewalls in the ARP table, including the firewalls I can't discover.

WLC-4402+AIR-LAP1142N problem
Hello all,
I've got a following problem with bringing up simple wireless configuration. There is a WLC-4402 controller and several remote locations (I am testing one so far). Two WLAN configured (one for employee and the other for guest access - no mobility anchoring used, guest is just mapper to VLAN restricted on the firewall). WLC serves DHCP pools for wireless clients. Problem I am experiencing at the moment is that user with laptop is able to connect to guest WLAN, got an IP but can communicate (ping) only its own IP, the controller IP in guest subnet and default gateway (which is the firewall interface). Traffic to any other destinations never hit gateway (I am running tcpdump on it to confirm). I double checked controller config but no luck so far. Could that be caused by missconfigured tunnel? No ACL or restriction set on WLC - see attached config.
Thank you in advance,
PeterIs this an open network or have you enabled layer 3 security? Web Auth? I can see you have created a lobby admin account so expect that you use this for guest account creation with web auth..
When you associate/receieve IP address to the open guest network have you then opened a web browser and authenticated? Until you enter your login details created on the WLC I would imagine that you wouldn't be able to send any data.
If you have authenticated already, can you check on the WLC that the client is associated/authenticated and is the Corp network ok? Also what is the topology between the WLC/Firewall/Remote sites.
Cheers
Mat
