WLC 4402 - clients connection to AP problem

Hi, have a problem with clients connection to AP. On WLC can see status Probing, sometimes associated but no IP received. It was working for a month but stopped for some reason. Am slightly not sure on the steps how it all works ? First authentication takes the place and then IP assignment by DHCP, correct ? Could you please help in pinpointing the problem ? Radius reachable from WLC, AP's have IP's assigned by DHCP server from another subnet

Hi,
You can turn off the client exclusion and aironetIE under the wireless lan setting.
You can also set to allow longer time out:

  • WLC 4402 LAG connection to 2 different chassis of 6509 VSS switch system

    Hi,
    I have inherited a 6509 VSS switch system as the network core and have the task of ensuring proper redundancy and redesign of the directly connected data center devices.  One of the connected devices (WLC 4402) physically appears to be connected to both switches - the WLC is in the same rack as VSS-Chassis1 so I can trace the fiber from WLC port 1 to gi1/1/22, the other fiber from the WLC port 2 goes into the floor and presumably over to VSS-Chassis2 gi2/1/22 (there is fiber connected there, I have link lights on both sides, and the port channel, Po200, on the VSS switch which is configured on gi1/1/22 is also configured on gi2/1/22).  My question pertains to the CDP neighbor output I get on the VSS switch: (truncated to include just the WLC)
    NCMECHQWiFi1     Gig 1/1/22        137               H    AIR-WLC44 Gig 0/0/2
    NCMECHQWiFi1     Gig 1/1/22        137               H    AIR-WLC44 LAGInterface0/3/1
    NCMECHQWiFi1     Gig 1/1/22        137               H    AIR-WLC44 Gig 0/0/1
    It looks like both WLC ports are physically connected to Gi1/1/22, which they are quite obviously not.
    This is confirmed on the WLC's sho cdp entry all output:
    (Cisco Controller) >show cdp entry all
    Device ID: ncmec-vsscoresw1.ncmec.org
    Entry address(es): 100.1.0.254
    Platform: cisco WS-C6509-E,  Capabilities: Router Switch IGMP
    Interface: LAGInterface0/3/1,  Port ID (outgoing port): GigabitEthernet1/1/22
    Holdtime : 160 sec
    I believe that the multi chassis etherchannel is set up correctly on the VSS:
    vsscoresw1#sho run int gi1/1/22
    interface GigabitEthernet1/1/22
    description WLC-Management
    switchport
    switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
    switchport mode trunk
    switchport nonegotiate
    channel-group 200 mode on
    end
    vsscoresw1#sho run int gi2/1/22
    interface GigabitEthernet2/1/22
    description WLC-Management
    switchport
    switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
    switchport mode trunk
    switchport nonegotiate
    channel-group 200 mode on
    end
    vsscoresw1#sho run int po200

    description WLC-Management
    switchport
    switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
    switchport mode trunk
    switchport nonegotiate
    end
    And yet when I show the details of port channel 200, I expect to see "mode on" but get instead see LACP which is unsupported on the WLC:

    >>>  So my question, arising at least partly from the apparently misleading CDP information, is this:  How can I confirm that the WLC is correctly dual homed to both core switches? (short of tracing the cable)  I ask because there are several other devices (not WLCs) that need to have the dual homed connections confirmed.
    I tried a layer 2 trace route but for all macs associated with the WLC, the trace abborts with the error "Device has Multiple CDP neighbours on destination port."
    Thanks in advance!
    Sue

    PS:  It is critical that I confirm the redundancy, since as a part of the data center redesign we will be moving the second VSS chassis to the same rack with the first to simplify the dual connections.  I need to verify all the redundant connections before I take it offline and move it.  Thanks!

  • DHCP and WLC 4402 clients

    Hi
    Our scenario is that we are building a test rig-up prior to WLC deployment. We have a 4402 WLC with LAP1242s, Windows clients. The WLC is running v4.2.99 firmware.
    Our problem is that the wireless clients are not collecting DHCP addresses.
    The configuration is:
    Base network address is 172.31.4.0 / 255.255.252.0.
    WLC on 172.31.7.220 / .221.
    DHCP server on 172.31.4.12
    G/W on 172.31.4.1.
    We are simulating the gateway with an ADSL router (not connected so no external traffic but at the moment that is the least of our troubles), and the DHCP server with a Cisco 805 router with only the Ethernet interface in use (the 805 permits us to configure a different D/G to the DHCP server).
    We have a catalyst 2950 switch in the circuit which has no VLANs nor access-lists configured.
    The wireless clients can associate to the LWAPs but do not collect an IP address.
    Wired clients can collect DHCP addresses and ping the DHCP, GW and controller.
    Can anyone help me understand what is going on here please and how to get the DHCP working?
    We did use this configuration - exactly these boxes in fact - to configure a different WLC last week (different subnets though) and we were successful - but not now.
    Thanks in advance

    I see.
    We are not using option 43 at all. The DHCP server is unchanged - the APs are using network broadcast to find the controller. As I posted above, the APs are contacting the controller without a problem, the clients are associating with the APs without a problem, only the clients weren't getting an IP adress.
    The problem appeared to go away totally after I re-configured it with v4.1.185. It's in and working now so I won't be spending any more time on it.
    While it would be interesting to try things out, these controllers are too expensive to have one lying around for long ;-)

  • WLC 4402 Ethernet Connections?

    Hello All,
    What type of Mini-GBICS should I used for RJ45 ethernet connections for my 4402 Wireles Lan Controller? Should I use the GLC-T SFP? Is it the right one? aAso is Mini-Gbics a industry standard which means I can use any brand of Mini-GBIC for this Connection like Dell Brand Dlink or Others.

    GLC-T is what you want to use. I don't know if other brands work but I bet it's not supported.

  • WLCS 4402 Client Session Timeout

    I am having an issue with my 4402. In the WLAN I have created there is a setting called Session Timeout. This by default is set to 1800 secs. This forces the clients to reauthenticate on the wireless every 30 minutes. I want to change this to 28000 secs. I have tried through both the Web and CLI. It seems to accept the change with no errors however will not take the change. I have even done this at CLI, saved the config and reset the system. Still at 1800. How do we get this changed?

    Hi Jim,
    Have a look at this thread, just a guess here but I don't think that this setting is the one causing the 30 minute timeout. My understanding was that this setting is actually in minutes (could be wrong),

  • WLC-4402+AIR-LAP1142N problem

    Hello all,
    I've got a following problem with bringing up simple wireless configuration. There is a WLC-4402 controller and several remote locations (I am testing one so far). Two WLAN configured (one for employee and the other for guest access - no mobility anchoring used, guest is just mapper to VLAN restricted on the firewall). WLC serves DHCP pools for wireless clients. Problem I am experiencing at the moment is that user with laptop is able to connect to guest WLAN, got an IP but can communicate (ping) only its own IP, the controller IP in guest subnet and default gateway (which is the firewall interface). Traffic to any other destinations never hit gateway (I am running tcpdump on it to confirm). I double checked controller config but no luck so far. Could that be caused by missconfigured tunnel? No ACL or restriction set on WLC - see attached config.
    Thank you in advance,
    Peter

    Is this an open network or have you enabled layer 3 security? Web Auth? I can see you have created a lobby admin account so expect that you use this for guest account creation with web auth..
    When you associate/receieve IP address to the open guest network have you then opened a web browser and authenticated? Until you enter your login details created on the WLC I would imagine that you wouldn't be able to send any data.
    If you have authenticated already, can you check on the WLC that the client is associated/authenticated and is the Corp network ok? Also what is the topology between the WLC/Firewall/Remote sites.
    Cheers
    Mat

  • Problem to register upgraded AP 1242 to WLC 4402

    Hi,
    I am running a small Cisco WLAN with about 20 APs (all 1242) that are managed by two WLC 4402 (running v4.0.155.0).
    WLCs are in Mobility group, serveral WLANs/VLANs are configured (including 802.1x, guest access with WebAuthentication etc.). All APs are configured for the same WLC as primary and the other as secondary. Everthing was working fine until I tried to upgrade another AP from IOS to LWAPP using the Cisco Upgrade tool.
    After the AP was flashed and rebooted it started to discover a WLC but fails. The console messages look like this:
    *Mar 1 00:00:05.962: %CDP_PD-4-POWER_OK: Full power - AC_ADAPTOR inline power source

    *Mar 1 00:00:54.398: %LWAPP-5-CHANGED: LWAPP changed state to DOWN
    The switchport of the AP is configured for the same VLAN as the management and ap-management interface of the controller (not native VLAN), the primary controller is set to master controller mode and I see no other error messages (e. g. on the WLC).
    Does anyone know how to fix this problem?
    (even adding a "CISCO-LWAPP-CONTROLLER" host in the DNS does not help!!!)

  • APEx '03 and Non-Apple Wireless Client Connection Problems

    Good morning. I have a 2003 vintage AirPort Extreme, running 5.5.1 firmware (due to the issues with the newer firmware discussed on this forum).
    --> Wired iMax
    My setup is DSL-->APEx--|
    --> Apple Wireless Clients
    --> Linksys w54 acting as a bridge
    In order to get the Linksys working in the first place, I had to remove the WEP, not a huge deal as we live in the boonies and no one within range of the APEx. I couldn't figure out how to get anything to work with Apple wireless security outside of the Family. I have it manually set to channel 1, and radio mode to G only.
    My problem basically is that non-Apple devices can see the SSID but cannot connect. The problem at hand are my kids' various PSPs & Ninendo DS's, and a little Windows CE netbook. Of course, none of these simple devices give anything helpful in terms of errors. Those three different devices all have their own version of the same error: See the SSID, try to connect, but fail.
    I'd like to figure out this problem, although the simpler solution might be to just buy another cheap Linksys on craiglist and use it for the non-Apple stuff.

    Bump?

  • Howto block p2p traffic of clients connected to the same ssid on different wlc

    Hi all,
    I use two wlc 4400 (4.2.x version) with a mobility domain and one ssid, both wlc are connected to a cisco l2 switch infrastructure. On the wlc I use the p2p blocking action 'drop' (http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/controller/5.2/configuration/guide/c52wlan.html#wp1209597) to isolate the clients from each other. Does anybody know if only unicast traffic is blocked or also multicast and broadcast traffic like arp requests?
    Concerning blocking p2p traffic of clients connected to the same ssid but different controllers I found the following statement in the LAP FAQs (http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/wireless/ps430/products_qanda_item09186a00806a4da3.shtml):
    ===
    Q. In autonomous APs, Public Secure Packet Forwarding (PSPF) is used to avoid client devices associated to this AP from inadvertently sharing files with other client devices on the wireless network. Is there any equivalent feature in Lightweight APs?
    A. The feature or the mode that performs the similar function of PSPF in lightweight architecture is called peer-to-peer blocking mode. Peer-to-peer blocking mode is actually available with the controllers that manage the LAP. If this mode is disabled on the controller (which is the default setting), it allows the wireless clients to communicate with each other through the controller. If the mode is enabled, it blocks the communication between clients through the controller. It only works among the APs that have joined to the same controller. When enabled, this mode does not block wireless clients terminated on one controller from the ability to get to wireless clients terminated on a different controller, even in the same mobility group.
    ===
    Does anybody know what's the best practise to prevent this inter wlc client traffic? I already read about using acls on the wlc dynamic interfaces, or private vlans on the l2 switch vlans where the dynamic interfaces are connected to. Is it allowed to completely isolate the wlc from each other on these dynamic interfaces with acls or private vlans or do the wlc need to see each other on this interfaces (e.g. heart beat)?
    Many thanks in advance,
    Thorsten

    Hi Sasha,Thorsten
    The bug is Junked and I believe which is what you are running into with your tests:
    CSCtr60787    WLC P2P Blocking Set to Forward-UpStream Doesn't Work.
    Bugtoolkit : http://tools.cisco.com/Support/BugToolKit/action.do?hdnAction=searchBugs
    To answer your original query :
    ACL is only solution to block client communication on same ssid between 2 wlcs. 5508 works better with ACLs then 44xx platform.
    ARP requests will be forwarded to upstream router just like any other traffic. WLC won't proxy arp for clients on same vlan.
    Gateway arp's I believe should be handled by WLC . ( Don't quote me on this but I am pretty sure it is ) ..If it was not, then how would client know about gw ?
    Multicast traffic is not applicable for p2p.
    Your ACL can be as simple as this for the scenario :
    WLC 1 - clientvlan = 10
    WLC 2 - clientvlan = 10
    and you want to restrict users from wlc1-wlc1, wlc1-wlc2, wlc2-wlc2 for same vlan10.
    Basically in that case the ACL should look like on both WLCs :
    1. Permit statement to talk to gateway.
    2. Deny to subnet.
    3. Permit all.
    4. If DHCP/DNS other services are on same subnet then you would need to add a permit
    statement before the deny.
    5. Attach the ACL to SSID or dymanic interface.
    Thanks..Salil

  • A client connection problem....

    Hi All,
    I have a client connection problem.
    The project which i did with C# (vs.net 2005) and Oracle XE , works well on my developer machine but i am getting a connection string error on the client side. The error comes from System.Exception class not from OracleException.
    The properties of the Oracle.DataAccess reference are ;
    Description: Oracle.DataAccess.dll
    Runtime Version:v1.0.3705
    Version: 10.2.0.100
    Path: C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\bin\Oracle.DataAccess.dll
    The sample code is:
    using Oracle.DataAccess.Client;
    using Oracle.DataAccess.Types;
    private void button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
    OracleConnection cnn = new OracleConnection();
    OracleCommand cmm = new OracleCommand();
    try
    cnn.ConnectionString = "USER ID=" + textEdit1.Text + ";PASSWORD=" + textEdit2.Text +
    ";DATA SOURCE=" + textEdit3.Text + ";";
    DataSet ds = new DataSet();
    cmm.Connection = cnn;
    cmm.Connection.Open();
    cmm.CommandType = CommandType.Text;
    cmm.CommandText = "SELECT * FROM FORMS";
    OracleDataAdapter ad = new OracleDataAdapter(cmm);
    ad.Fill(ds);
    gridControl1.DataSource = ds.Tables[0];
    cmm.Connection.Close();
    cnn.Dispose();
    catch (OracleException oexx)
    MessageBox.Show(oexx.Message,"From OracleException");
    cmm.Connection.Close();
    cnn.Dispose();
    catch (Exception exx)
    MessageBox.Show(exx.Message,"Fromn Exception");
    cmm.Connection.Close();
    cnn.Dispose();
    And the error message is:
    'user ıd' is an invalid connection string attribute --> Oracle.DataAccess
    Any idea ?
    Thanks in advance for your help.
    Adam

    1. What is the client machine locale? Is it Turkish by any chance?
    2. Try using lowe case "user id" in the connection string instead of upper case "USER ID".

  • Redhat 7.3 upgrade causing problems with client connections to Oracle 8.1.7

    I have recently upgraded from Redhat 7.1 to 7.3 and now my Oracle clients can no longer connect to Oracle 8.1.7. I read a note external to this forum that essentially says to reinstall Oracle.
    I would really like to avoid reinsalling Oracle. I haven't had enough time to devote to determining a simpler fix. Does anyone know whether reinstalling Oracle can be avoided?

    I resolved my own issue. The problem was with the 7.2 upgrade and how it treated client connections. Once I started xinetd (off by default), everything started working; imagine that.

  • Windows XP Home on WLC 4402

    Hi,
    I have a WLC 4402 Wireless LAN Controller with multiple 1231 AP on LWAPP. WLAN has security setting on WPA+WPA2 with PSK share key. All computers in domain are fine, wireless connections are steady. I have a group of students use Netbook on Windows XP Home SP3 got connection and drop situation. Event ID on XP has continuous 4201 and 4202 cases, and on WLC log I have also continuous log as
    *Apr 19 10:35:44.046: %DOT1X-3-MAX_EAPOL_KEY_RETRANS: 1x_ptsm.c:407 Max EAPOL-key M1 retransmissions exceeded for client 00:26:5e:eb:fd:0a
    I understand XP Home has no certificate from Domain environment therefore I didn't setup any AAA server service. How can this problem be resolved? Keep trying on security combination, but no luck. Please Help. Thanks.
    Attachment is WLC configuration file without encryption.

    Hi, Kayle
    Thanks for quick reply. Its not ASUS EeePC but ASUS s10e. The wireless LAN device is Broadcom 802.11g. I check with Lenono System Update, no newer driver available. Thanks.
