WLC - guest account multiple users

Hi,
I have been looking at guest access features of the WLC and I can see the ability to specificy an account duration as a Lobby Ambassador but does the WLC support multiple logins per guest account?
I.e. I want to create a single guest account for use by 100 users. Is there any way to achieve this or would I need to create 100 individual guest user accounts?
Many thanks,
Paul.

Paul,
If you have WCS available, you can import a .csv file that contains the proper information for usernames/passwords:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/wcs/7.0/configuration/guide/7_0temp.html#wp1102820
Example file would look like:
Username   Password   Profile     Description
User1      Cisco      Any Profile Net User 1
  User2      Cisco                  Net User 2
User3      Cisco      Internal    Net User 3
The other option I can think of would be to build a list of command line configurations for the WLC, and manipulate the list with your already created usernames/passwords in a text editor. The command to configure a guest user on the WLC CLI is:
config netuser add wlan userType [lifetime ] [description ]
Thanks,
-Patrick

  • ISE Guest-Account Single-User Multiple Logins

    Hello,
How to make ISE to only allow  one guest-user account login at a time.    the actual issue I have is- when I give one Guest user-id to someone, he can circulate that user-id with others and multiple unauthorized guests can use that single user-id to connect to Guest-portal
    Anyway to restrict that ?

Restricting Guests to One Active Network Session
You can restrict guests to having only one device connected to the network at a time. When guests attempt to connect with a second device, the currently-connected device is automatically disconnected from the network.
This is a global setting affecting all Guest portals.
Step 1 Choose Administration > Web Portal Management > Settings > Guest > Portal Policy.
Step 2 Check the Allow only one guest session per user option.
    Step 3 Click Save .

  • WLC Guest access Daily user/password

    Hi,
I have a WLC 2100 and 1131 LAP's does anyone know whether it is possible to create a local net guest user that either has a changing daily password or whether it is possible to create multiple users that are only valid for a specific time period. Basically all i want to do is, once a month create new users or passwords for each day of the month and the credentials are only valid for that day.  I can see that i can time limit users but this would mean creating the user at midnight every day.
    Many Thanks

    Hi,
Q1: it is possible to create a local net  guest user that either has a changing daily password?
A1: No that is not possibe on WLC local guest users
Q2: it is  possible to create multiple users that are only valid for a specific  time period?
A2: Yes, you have lifetime per guest user that can be configured.
For your requireent, You need to maybe have a look to other Guest appliance like the NAC Guest Server, or create the user DB on ACS Radius Server for time restrictions.
    Thx

  • One number/account, multiple users answering

Here's what I would like to set up for my business:
    - A button on my business website that says "contact us now on Skype"
    - Clicking that button activates a call or a chat session to a Skype account for my business
    - That call or chat will be answered by whichever of my three colleagues are online at the time
I have searched high and low across the Skype website and forums, but haven't found anything like this. Did I miss it?
I realize I could just link it to one single Skype username, but what happens when that person is offline? It would be great if it could go to a single account that is accessed by multiple users, any of which could pick up the call/chat.

    keinkohle wrote:
Thanks for the suggestion! Pretty May looks pretty good.
However, they unfortunately don't support Skype messaging. It would be great if customers could just type a quick message, that could be received then answered by one of three staff members.
Anyone heard of anything that can do that?
I am assuming you are expecting these end-users to send these messages to you via Skype?
While this can be done, it would require that you have a computer somewhere dedicated to be running a Skype client and another 3rd party program at all times.
The 3rd party program is a free program I created that does call transfer automatically, called SCTE ("Skype Call Transfer Example").
Inside the Lower text box named "Or Enter "ONE" Skype name or Phone #, you can actually enter as many Skype names and/or phone numbers as you wish, seperating them by a comma.
    Example: SkypeName1,+13125551212,SkypeName2,SkypeName3,+16125551212
NOTE: Any phone numbers must have a leading (+) sign.
By checking the checkbox "Auto Transfer" any inbound call will be attempted to be transfered to ALL of the Skype Names and/or phone numbers listed above. The first one that answers, gets that call.
It's important to define "First One that Answers" by saying, if for example SkypeName2 was offline, but had Skype voicemail activated, then it is possible that the call could end up going to Skype voicemail even when the other Skype names are online or the other phone numbers are ringing if those others don't answer the call quickly. So, that's important to remember.
That said, you can remove phone numbers and Skype names at anytime to avoid any Skype names that are not currently online or any phone numbers where say that office is closed ("Say it's a weekend and nobody will answer the phone or it's a different timezone and that phone won't be answered at this time.").
Many use SCTE for example, for hotlines and on-call methods, as shifts change or offices are closed due to timezone difference, the Skype names and phone numbers are changed and inbound callers are redirected to the current support at that time.
SCTE can even be used by those that answered the call, and they can quickly re-transfer the call to members in custom Skype qroups you can create, or contacts in their contact list because SCTE shows the online status of who is currently available, for example, for questions that maybe the original person who had the call transferred to, can't answer. So they in turn, again transfer the called transferred to them, to someone else.
If the people answering the call are also using SCTE, they can quickly place a call on hold, answer another call, resume a call, end a call and transfer a call again, by simply selecting that call in progress from the SCTE active call window.
SCTE can also be placed in your system startup folder and if the Skype name is set to auto-logon SCTE will start Skype when SCTE starts so that Skype and SCTE are always available as soon as your Windows system starts.
SCTE retains any settings from the last time it was used, so it will always startup with any settings you have set from the last time it was stopped.
More information on SCTE and how it works can be found here:
    http://saveontelephoneservices.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=11
The above takes care of calls so now lets deal with Skype Chat options.
Since there is no single entity, for example 1 Skype name that will always be around to answer all Skype Chat message at all times, you could create a Skype Group chat link that can be posted on web pages and in emails, but this would mean everyone can see everyones recent messages ("There are methods to disable prior older Skype Group Chat history, when new people join").
So if for example 2 people are asking questions in the Skype Group Chat, at that same moment in time, then both will see the others questions as well as the responses to those questions.
Once their questions are answered someone given what's known as master privilege abilility specifically to manage this Skype Group Chat can then, kick that person from the Skype chat ("They can always re-join later if needed") to keep the people in the Skype Group Chat, just the ones that have current questions, if needed.
The Skype Group Chat method is the best method for this because then there is no need to have you or the other Skype name(s) add each other as contacts before you can exchange Skype chat messages.
If you did a 1 to 1 Skype chat instead, for example, if that persons Skype name asking the questions had their privacy settings set to ("Contacts Only") you/they would need to exchange/approve contact details before communicating via Skype Chat messages.
Not sure if that's bad or good in your case?
So, you would need to respond, before I go into more details on how to deal with chats because my response will be based on your needs.

  • WLC Guest Account Configuration

    Hello,
I have been trying to set up a guest WiFi network using a 2504 series WLC. I have configured the switch, the router, and the firewall for the IP Schema that I want to use for the guest network, but I am unable to get this process working. I have a CAPWAP configuration example that I followed as well as a LWAPP example. I don't have a LWAPP but I do have a CAPWAP. I want to breakdown my network into two separate networks: one for internal use and one for the guest. I am able to connect to the internal network correctly and can ping and gain access via the WAP after I completed my configurations, but I am not able to use the 10.0.0.0 network that I configured for the guest network. I can ping the default router address of 10.0.0.11 from the WLC. I also want to use web authentication as a way to set up the guest network for authentication and the virtual address of 1.1.1.1 does not appear as the authentication method.
I would appreciate any help on this issue. I have been working on this issue for some time with no luck. Any suggestions on things I could try would be great.

  • FMM & Guest Account

    Hi All,
Albeit loads of people have complained about the appearance of the Guest Account on log in with the FMM app running, I have the opposite. Even with FMM running there is no Guest Account availble on login.
And, when checking Users to enable "restarting to safari when screen is locked", the option is not available...?
I have all the latest patches etc, having recently clean installed and tidying up my system.
I have disabled, then enabled and then disabled the Guest Account in Users, to se if that made any changes. But still no joy.
So, what do I need to do to enable this feature and get the guest account back? It does appear to be an integral security feature and without it, FMM is pretty useless.
Any suggestioins would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    I resolved it.
I turned on my Guest Account in Users.
    Signed out of iCloud.
    Restarted the machine.
I then turned on iCloud, allowing it to use my location and then logged out.
Ta-dah, the option is now back... And the setting in Security is now present.

  • Cisco WLC local net user - guest account

    Hello,
We have a 2504 Cisco WLC.  I am creating Local Net Users for one of the WLANs that uses Web Auth and the Local Database.
My one question is, what does a "guest account" do differently than a non guest account besides the ability to create the lifetime of the account?  I mean, it seems both give access to the WLAN so I am failing to see the difference between the two.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

A guest acct can only login to a webauth WLAN. A normal netuser can login to any WLAN that you allow or all. Including 802.1x if that WLAN is allowed to chek the local db

  • ISE1.1 - Use of one guest account on multiple devices

I have ISE1.1 with local web authentication process for "Guest" Wi-Fi. I faced a problem in bulk guest account creation and TAC filed a bug - CSCup38457: "importing guest account CSV fails via sponsor portal"
Now, I need to allow guests to connect to "Guest" Wi-Fi using multiple devices (approx. 200). My queries are below:
1- Is it possible to permit one guest account to be used by approx. 200 devices at same time?
2- On how many devices single guest account can be used?
3- Is there any limitation or abnormal behavior in terms of guest portal for such cases?

Are you sure that is true?
When I look at the restriction on device registration I read that as applicable only to Device Self Registration, not to normal guest access.
So as far as guest sessions per user I can either choose to limit to one with the check box, or allow infinite.
And the Device Registration Portal Limit applies to self registration of devices, not just standard guest access. The OP doesn't look like he wants to register devices, he just wants to allow guest access for multiple devices.
This is how I read it anyway. Please let me kno if you think otherwise.
If this is not the case, then is it not possible to create a standard Network Access User (not through guest portal) and have as many users access this as you need? In this case 200. As long as you disable password changes/expirations/lockouts etc.
If not I may be in trouble :-)

  • ISE, WLC: web auth, blocking user account

    Hello!
We are implementing BYOD concept with ISE (1.1.4) and WLC 5508 (7.4.100).
On WLC there is SSID(WLAN) with MAC filtering without L2 security. For authentication user is redirected to the ISE Guest Portal.
Credentials are created at the ISE sponsor portal.
We create user account in ISE sponsor portal with one hour lease.
In 10 minutes we delete (or block)  user credentials.
In spite of it the user is still able to work. Even if we manually disconnect client and reconnect it again, client opens the browser and there is no redirection to the ISE web auth page.
This happens because WLC thinks, that client is still associated.
There are session and idle timeout timers in WLC WLAN, but they can't solve the problem of automatic client session removing.
From my point of you, ISE must send some kind of reauth request to the user after account deletion, to make user authentication impossible .
In practice, ISE doesn't tell wlc or user, that client sesssion is blocked.
How the user account blocking process can be automated without manually deleting the client session from WLC client database?

It seems that there is some bug about CoA when deleting Guest accounts
    CSCuc82135
Guests need to be removed from the network on Suspend/Delete/Expiration
When a guest user is deleted from the system, the RADIUS sessions   associated with that guest user still exists.
Workaround   Reissue the Change of Authorization using the   session information from Monitoring reports for the sessions associated with   that guest user.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/ise/1.1.1/release_notes/ise111_rn.html#wp411891
from BUG Toolkit there is Release-Pending in "Fixed-in" option.

  • How to limit bandwidth for guest per connection/user on 2504 WLC?

We have 2504 Controller with 24 AP's registered in a hotel and we would like to limit bandwidth per connection or per user.
I went to QOS Profiles > Bronze >
I do not see Per user Bandwidth Contracts(K)* instead I see WLAN QOS Parameters with below options.

    Hello
Our WLC model 5508, but there is confusion on difference between Override Per-User Bandwidth Contracts (kbps) vs Override Per-SSID Bandwidth Contracts (kbps)
    Our requirement-
On Guest SSID  - Each user / session should not exceed bandwidth more than 758kbps upstream/downstream
Only Guest users cannot login to multiple device with single userID - applicable only to Guest SSID other SSID should not get impacted.
    hope to get some response
    cheers

  • IPad / iOS - Multiple User Accounts

I (and countless others) would love it, if the iPad could set up multiple user accounts, just like the Mac OS; multiple user and guest accounts in iOS, is such an obvious need.
The iPad is so meant for multiple users in a household, guests etc. I don't want to hand someone, a friend or anyone my iPad with access to all my email, pictures, bank info, game scores, etc., etc. when they just want to surf the web or DJ some music from my music library on the home network.
Please, please Apple, add multiple user accounts to the iPad, just like the native Mac OS.
While you're at it, add this to the iPhone—sometimes I want to let a friend or relative play games or whatever on a roadtrip, withouth them digging through my personal info, a guest account with specified app access and premissions would resolve this.
Apple, I know you're trying to sell devices, but look back to see why you implemented this in the Mac OS to discover why you'd do it for portable devices too, it's a no-brainier.
    Thanks!!

Nobody from Apple here. Just other users like yourself.
You are not the first person to ask for this and I'm sure you will not be the last. But, if you really want to get the message across... Try here.

  • Multiple Guest Accounts / Behind-the-scenes Login

How would we go about logging a visitor in as a specific user behind-the-scenes (without them even seeing the Login Screen)? This question is driven from a requirement where we need to display a replica of the subportal branding at the guest view level. (Needs to go on the wish list for sure: Redirecting to a subportal and/or subportal guest accounts.) For example, if I created a [subportalname] Guest user for a subportal and wanted to automatically log a visitor in as that user, how would I trigger that process? Login PEI doesn't help me - none of those events seem to fire until the user is presented with the Login screen and manually clicks Log In - Looking at the Interpreter class right now, where we see the Guest login functionality (DoGuestLogin, etc.). How might we pass around a username and password and trigger an automatic login attempt with that data? We're basically looking for a work-around for multiple guest accounts - 1 per subportal - so that branding can appear right up front before a user actually logs in. We will have a parameter somewhere to branch out which subportal guest user to log the visitor in as. We've gone down a couple of different routes with no luck.
Again, due to a tight timeframe, we need details - like, "Create a custom activity space replacing the Interpreter class, edit [blah] function and use [blah] function to pass in your hardcoded username and password. Rebuild [blah] and deploy [blah] dlls to [blah] directories."
    Regards,
    Sarah WheelerCox Enterprises, Inc.

It turns out this is pretty complicated due to the internals of how user sessions get initialized. I've managed to get a test working where it logs you in as a guest in a different sub-portal. I can give you some rough information now.
You will need a Login PEI, and a custom Space and IloginControl/IHTTPControl. Obviously, you will need to edit the Login PEI xml file and the CustomActivitySpaces.xml file to get your customizations deployed.
The OnAfterLogin() method of the ILoginActions PEI should look something like this:
    publicRedirect OnAfterLogin(Object _oUserSession, ApplicationData arg1)
    IPTSession ptSession = (IPTSession) _oUserSession;
    if(ptSession.GetSessionInfo().GetCurrentUserID() == PT_INTRINSICS.PT_USER_GUEST)
    if(PTDebug.IsInfoTracingEnabled(Component.Portal_Browsing))
    PTDebug.Trace(Component.Portal_UI_Infrastructure, TraceType.Info,
    "Guest user login redirecting to guestloginspace to go to non-standard guest user.");
    Redirect guestRedirect = newRedirect();
    guestRedirect.SetLinkCreateNewSpace(GuestLoginSpace.STR_MVC_CLASS_NAME, null);
    guestRedirect.SetControl(GuestLoginSpace.STR_MVC_CLASS_NAME);
    returnguestRedirect;
    returnnull;
and the LoginControl that I mentioned earlier is a bit more complicated than I implied. It also needs to be an IHTTPControl for login purposes. The custom space is very simple, so I will skip it. Here's the full class code for the custom guest login control:

  • Multiple users in household, how do I simply sign out of an account and not delete the account?

I just got an iPad and am still figuring out its quirks. One thing that is completely frustrating me is that I am being told that I have to delete accounts instead of simply being able to sign out? I don't get it? For instance the Gmail app lets you switch between accounts but both are always signed in. Same with iCloud and Appleid's. I don't get it? I have multiple users at my house that use the same apps but we can't sign in and out as our respective selves? Is this an Apple thing? I haven't used Apple products since the mid 90's so I could just be out of the loop? Not being able to Sign in and out doesn't seem very logical to me so it makes me think that I must be missing a step because why on Earth would you not have that function? Help me understand. Please and thank you.

You are not going to like the answer, but no you cannot sign out of email accounts on the iPad. The iPad was originally designed to be a single user device that was to be used in conjunction with one's own iTunes library. That was back in 2010 when the first iPad was released. many things about the way you can use an iPad have changed, but it still designed to be a single user device.
Anybody can check email in a web browser on the iPad, just like one can check ther email on any computer by signing into their account, but the built in Mail app does not have separate user accounts. You can sign into and out of Apple ID's on the iPad but that is where Family Sharing comes into play.

  • Sharing an iTunes Library across multiple user account and a network.

Sharing an iTunes Music Library across multiple user accounts.
    Hello Everybody!
Firstly, this was designed to be run in Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger. It will not work with earlier versions of Mac OS X! Sorry.
Here's a handy tip for keeping your hard drive neat and tidy, it also saves space, what in effect will be done is an iTunes music library will be shared amongst multiple users on the same machine. There are advantages and disadvantages to using this method.
    • Firstly I think it might be worthwhile to state the advantages and disadvantages to using this approach.
    The advantages include:
    - Space will be saved, as no duplicate files will occur.
    - The administrator will be able to have complete control over the content of the iTunes library, this may be useful for restricting the content of the Library; particularly for example if computer is being used at and education institution, business or any other sort of institution where things such as explicit content would be less favorable.
    - The machine will not be slowed by the fact that every user has lots of files.
The disadvantages to this system include.
    - The fact that the account storing the music will have to be logged in, and iTunes will have to be active in that account.
    - If the account housing the music is not active then nobody can use the iTunes library.
    - There is a certain degree of risk present when an administrator account must be continually active.
    - Fast User Switching must be enabled.
    Overview:
A central account controls all music on the machine/network, this is achieved by storing iTunes files in a public location as opposed to in the user's directory. In effect the system will give all users across the machine/network access to the same music/files without the possibility of files 'doubling up' because two different users like the same types of music. This approach saves valuable disk space in this regard and may therefore prove to be useful in some situations.
This is a hearty process to undertake, so only follow this tutorial if you're willing to go all the way to the end of it.
    Process:
    Step 1:
Firstly, we need to organize the host library, I tidied mine up, removing excess playlists, random files, things like that. this will make thing a bit easier in the later stages of this process.
Once the library is tidied up, move the entire "iTunes" folder from your Home directory to the "//localhost" directory (The Macintosh HD) and ensure that files are on the same level as the "Applications", "Users", "Library" and "System" directories; this will ensure that the files in the library are available to all users on the machine (this also works for networks)
Optionally you can set the ownership of the folder to the 'administrator' account (the user who will be hosting the library.), you may also like to set the permissions of 'you can' to "Read & Write" (assuming that you are doing this through the user who will host the library); secondly you should set the "Owner" to the administrator who will be hosting the library and set their "access" to "Read & Write" (this will ensure that the administrator has full access to the folder). The final part of this step involves setting access for the "Others" tab to "Read Only" this will ensure that the other users can view but not modify the contents on the folder.
    Overview:
So far we have done the following steps:
    1. Organized the host library.
    2. Placed the iTunes directory into a 'public' directory so that other users may use it. (this step is essential if you plan on sharing the library across multiple accounts on the same machine. NOTE: this step is only necessary if you are wanting to share you library across multiple accounts on the same machine, if you simply want to share the music across a network, use the iTunes sharing facility.
    3. set ownership and permissions for the iTunes music folder.
    Step 2:
Currently the administrator is the only user who can use this library, however we will address this soon. In this step we will enable iTunes music sharing in the administrator's account, this will enable other users to access the files in the library.
If you are not logged in as the administrator, do so; secondly, open iTunes and select "Preferences" from the "iTunes" menu, now click the "Sharing" tab, if "share my library on my local network" is not checked, the radio buttons below this will now become active, you may choose to share the entire libraries contents, or share only selected content.
Sharing only selected content may be useful if their is explicit content in the library and minors use the network or machine that the library is connected to.
If you have selected "share entire library" go to Step 3, if you have selected share "share selected playlists" read on.
After clicking "share selected playlists" you must then select the playlists that you intend to share across your accounts and network. Once you have finished selecting the playlists, click "OK" to save the settings.
    Overview:
    In this step we:
    1. Enabled iTunes sharing in the administrator's account, now, users on the local network may access the iTunes library, however, users on the same machine may not.
    Step 3:
Now we will enable users on the same machine to access the library on the machine. This is achieved by logging in as each user, opening iTunes, opening iTunes preferences, and clicking "look for shared music". now all users on the machine may also access the library that the administrator controls.
This in effect will mean that the user will not need to use their user library, it will be provided to them via a pseudo network connection.
As a secondary measure, I have chosen to write a generic login script that will move any content from the user's "Music/iTunes/iTunes Music" directory to the trash and then empties the user's trash.
This is done through the use of an Automator Application: this application does the following actions.
    1. Uses the "Finder" action "Get Specified Finder Items"
    1a. The user's "~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music" folder
    2. Uses the "Finder" action "Get Folder Contents"
    3. Uses the "Finder" action "Move to Trash"
    4. Uses the "Automator" action "Run AppleScript"
    4a. with the following:
    on run {input, parameters}
    tell application "Finder"
    empty trash
    end tell
    return input
    end run
IMPORTANT: Once the script is adapted to the user account it must be set as a login item. in order to keep the script out of the way i have placed it in the user's "Library" directory, in "Application Support" under "iTunes".
    Overview:
    Here we:
    1. Enabled iTunes sharing in the user accounts on the host machine, in effect allowing all users of the machine to view a single iTunes library.
    2. (Optional) I have created a login application that will remove any content that has been added to user iTunes libraries, this in effect stops other users of the machine from adding music and files to iTunes.
    Step 4:
If it is not already enabled, open system preferences and enable Fast User Switching in Accounts Options.
    Summary:
We have shared a single iTunes library across multiple user account, while still allowing for network sharing. This method is designed to save space on machines, particularly those with smaller hard drives.
I hope that this hint proves to be helpful and I hope everybody will give me feedback on my process.
    regards,
    Pete.
