WLST - force stop application

Hello Experts!
I am writing WLST script where I need to stop some deployed application. I use "stopApplication" command:
stopApplication(applicationName, gracefulProductionToAdmin="true", gracefulIgnoreSessions="true")But it takes about 5 minutes to stop application this way. When I stop application through Administration Console (force stop actually) it takes about 5 seconds to stop application.
Is there any way to force stop application through WLST script?

Maybe you could try the timeout option:
timeout—Time (in milliseconds) that WLST waits for the deployment process to complete before canceling the operation. A value of 0 indicates that the operation will not time out. This argument defaults to 300,000 ms (or 5 minutes).

  • Force Quitting Applications

    Good Morning All,
Is there documentation anywhere on force quitting applications and why it should be done as a last resort? I have a user who ALWAYS

Essentially these are the side effects of force quit:
    1. Documents aren't saved. Of course a File menu -> Save document will save the document's latest changes.
    2. Open documents find themselves corrupted.
    3. Open backup cache documents may get corrupted, making an application unexpectedly quit the next time it is opened, or the document next time it is opened unexpectedly quit.
If force quit is being done because the application can't close, it is probably due to #3 having been done at an inopportune time in the past.
Sometimes a force quit is impossible to stop because a 4 language screen comes up telling someone they must restart. This is known as a kernel panic. Find out from them if they have seen any kernel panics. Also find out if they ever spent more than half an hour unable to quit the application because the beachball cursor comes up and nothing functions.
Is the data on the machine backed up? We could discover why a spinning beachball may be happening, or kernel panics may be happening only if the data is backed up.

  • Force-Stopping Apps

Just a general question to those who know how the OS works:
How safe is it to continuously force-stop an application while trying to deal with a problem?
I have been trying to fix this Album issue and, in order to do that, I have tried multiple solutions posted online, almost all of which include stopping Media Storage and clearing its data. With it being a system app, how sure can I be that I can keep killing it as many times as I need without damaging something essential?
The question can be extended to other apps, as well.
How safe is it to randomly kill apps and erase their data? May it have long-term consequences for the performance of the device?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Thank you very much for your reply!
I got concerned because I was repeating the same cycle of actions several times, ending up force-stoppng Media Storage 5 or 6 times. I sincerely hope it's not going to do any damage...

  • Question about Force stop...

Hi. When I go to Settings/Applications/Manage Apps/Running and select Force stop for some apps, then come back later, many of the apps are still showing under the Running tab. Am I missing the concept of Force stop? Why does an app start running again in the background after I've stopped it? Am I doing something wrong or is there something wrong with my phone?
I know, a lot of questions...

I believe the OP was wanting to know about apps restarting after app os force closed in the task manager not about the device rebooting, this post doesnt really apply.

  • Application Not listed In Force Quit Applications Window

I running an application that is not displaying in the Force Quit Applications window.
When Adobe Lightroom 3 is running it is not listed.
I have quit the application and relaunched it and it still is not appearing in the list of Applications that are running.
What may have happened? How can I remedy this issue?
    Thank you.

Why do you need to invoke the force quit? Are you experiencing hangups, freezes, or ?
When you have the Help section pop up window of an application open, the app itself stays "hidden" until you close the help window - you have to get used to closing that first.

Hi there. Thanks for the reply.
Yes, it was working before. No changes done. But, I think the mistake I did was that the previous time I stopped/started the application , I did it with the login as root instead of the application user called applprod -which I was supposed to use.
I think that is why the permission denied errors. Otherwise no changes.
I am new to this and do not know how to run Autoconfig.
    Anu.

Quit System Preferences if it's running. In the Finder, hold down the option key and select
    Go ▹ Library
from the menu bar. From the Library folder, delete the following item, if it exists:
    Caches/com.apple.systempreferences
and move the following item to the Desktop:
    Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
Launch System Preferences and test. If you still have the issue, put the item on the Desktop back where it came from and post again. Otherwise, delete the item.

  • Trouble Forcing an Application to Run

I have a bit of a problem I'm having trouble solving. I'm trying to force an application (McAfee Total Protection's silent installer) to run at startup. So I created an application object and associated it with a test machine, also checking "Force Run." The test machine will not run the installer at startup, however it will run if I execute the object from the Application Explorer window.
I've experimented with the force run order, even though I don't have any additional applications I'm trying to install on this box. I also turned on the Reporting feature and checked the log file. Each time I log in, I can see an entry made in the log file as if some kind of attempt is made to run it. McAfee Total Protection also keeps a log of every install attempt, whether it's successful or not and I don't see any entries there.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Glad to hear that helped.
If you don't have that box checked, the instll will try to run Prior to User
logon which could act quite differently depending on the software.

  • Starting/Stopping Application Server Forms and Reports

    Hello,
Are there any scripts (like dbstart and dbshut for Oracle DB) for starting and stopping "Application Server Forms and Reports". If not, any special suggestions?
I must automatically start this application on Unix. I know that during starting some steps must be performedy by the root user (export DISPLAY env variable and issue the "xhost +" command) and later the oracle user must do some things( export ORACLE_HOME and DISPLAY and issue the "opmnctl startall" command). Does anybody have scripts like that?
    Regards,
    Tim

If you're on 10.1.2, there is a script (requires an X Windows session). It's called runstartupconsole.sh, but you've got to update the install type to Portal in the ias.properties file if I remember right. It looks cool, but a shell script works better.
Here is a shell script that does some of those things. You still need to run xhost+ after running a display if you're using something that requires a DISPLAY to start. Someone may have a better one, but this one works.
We actually use one that starts all the different components individually except for Reports in rc scripts. That is the only thing we have that needs a Display set to start. So then xhost + is run & at the same time, the Unix sysadmin runs a script that start Reports from opmn.
    I hope this is useful.
    Cordially,
    Steve

The app (Excel) is in the dock. When I left click on it there is no check next to open at login.
Lets go back to the beginning when I installed ms office both word and excel were in the dock. then one day excel dissapeared. I put it back in the dock and that is when it started opening during login. There is only one X showing in the dock.
    Maybe I have little gremlins.

  • API to Start / Stop Applications or to perform NWA like operations

    Hello,
is there an API available that enables me to start and stop deployed ears programmatically?
Or more generally asked, is there a way to perform the same actions that are possible with the NWA, e.g. modify web service ports, deploy applications and so on.
    Thanks in advance.
    ciao,
    Elmar

Yes there is. I am trying to use it right now.
It is the DeplyService interface (com.sap.engine.services.deploy.DeployService) which is contained in the deploy.sda.
You can use it to start/stop applications, remove applications, deploy applications, etc.
