I have a satellite 2805 s201, I purchased 256 MB of memory PC100 SDRAM then update my BIOS from 1.1 to 2.0 but the system will not recognize the new RAM. What are my alternatives?

You obviously know more that the manufacturer of the computer. (If the User Guide were wrong, don't you think Apple would have issued a correctionafter over 2 months? By the way PC2400 is designed to run on a 133 FSB...check with Corsair...they came out with it)
That Black Knight always wins!
There is absolutely nothing official about "PC2400", and I'm surprised that Apple even has it in their manual. PC2400 memory doesn't seem to be anything more than 133 MHz DDR SDRAMs overclocked to 150 MHz. Pushing it to 166 MHz might be risking a certain amount of reliability - especially at higher temperatures.
http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleID=929
Since the Corsair memory already has PC2400 rating (150 MHz FSB) and since it uses the same DRAM as our reference stick of OCZ PC2400 which did 170 MHz (CL2) last time I checked, I expected some good things to come from the XMS2400. And no, I wasn't going to be disappointed. The Corsair XMS2400 did 171 MHz at the most aggressive timings!
http://www.pnrcomputersystems.com/Pages/whatis_pc2400_ddrsdram.htm
PC2400 is not an actual JEDEC specification but rather a guarantee that the memory will run beyond its specification. PC2400 DDR SDRAM is designed to run stably when overclocked to 150MHz (300MHz DDR). PC2400 describes the memory's transfer rate of 2400 MB/sec (2.4 GB/sec) on a 64-bit bus rather than its MHz speed.

  • Why won't Mac Pro 1,1 won't recognize new memory?

Hi out there. I needed a bit more memory so I got 2G of Kingston. I had ordered it from MacMall and had given my serial # and they picked it, so I am assuming it is the right memory. I have installed it in slot 3. From what I have read in the manual that is correct. I have heard conflicting things about having to install in pairs. I have 512 in slots 1 and 2 for a total of 1G before the new memory. I have taken it out and put it back in a few times, reset PRAM, etc, to no avail. So, my question is.... does it really need to be installed in pairs???? Could it just be faulty memory? I have searched the forum, and this seems to be a common problem with later models of MacPros, but I haven't seen anything about older ones like mine.
    Thanks!

OK, thanks. I thought so. I wasn't sure though and when I talked to the woman at MacMall she said no. I have done a lot of biz with them and have never steered me wrong before, so I am not dissing them, but it sure would have been nice to know to begin with so I could have bought two 1Gs instead of having to buy another 2Gs. Oh well, now it will hopefully be back to being superfast.
Thanks for your quick response, I appreciate it!

  • Iphoto won't recognize my memory card anymore (since a month ish?) but the mac itself does and puts the icon on the desktop.  How do I get it to recognize it again?

Iphoto won't recognize my memory card anymore (since a month ish?) but the mac itself does and puts the icon on the desktop.  How do I get it to recognize it again?

Thank you so much for responding.  I will look for the other disks.
One more question - I initially decided to do this because my Mac kept opening with the date changed to 2008, and I keep having to re - enter my Web key.  In addition, it was running much slower.  Since I 'cleaned' everything out, I thought all would work perfect.  This morning, the date changed to 2008; again AND it again asks for my Web key.  Does this mean my Mac has reached it's almost end or could I have a 'bug' on it?
Again, thanks so much for your suggestions.

  • Itunes won't recognize new credit in Itunes

itunes won't recognize new credit in itunes store and goes straight to billing page so I cannot purchase anything; also play button won't activate when in itunes stor. Susanne

    Hi Chris
Thank you for your help sorry it has taken me so long to reply to you.
I solved my problem with Itunes gift card after many frustrating hours. I went to purchase another song it did the same thing as before (went straight to the billing page) but this time I hit a credit card icon it asked me to bring up details; I deliberately entered wrong numbers so forth and so on. I deleted all the credit card details and hit NONE and I found I could then exit the page. That action seemed to trigger a correction for purchase; and I could then download without too much trouble.
    Cheers

  • IMac with Mavericks won't recognize new 60D

iMac with Mavericks won't recognize new 60D

No drivers are required on the Mac to use the camera.  The Mac will natively recongize the camera.
You can install Canon's supplemental software or you can use the Apple provided software or 3rd party software.
However... when you connect a camera to a Mac and it recognizes the camera, you *can* configure what you want the computer to launch.  By default, a Mac will usually launch iPhoto.
If you open iPhoto (do this EVEN if you don't want to use iPhoto) then go into iPhoto -> Preferences and look at the "General" category.  You'll see an option that reads:  "Connecting camera opens:" with a selection menu next to it.  You can use that menu to pick what you want your Mac to do, then close and quite iPhoto.
When connecting the camera to the computer, do the following:
    Turn the camera off
Use the supplied USB cord to attach the camera to the computer (some caveats here... I'll mention them below).
Power the camera on after it's attached.
About those caveats on step 2.
The reason I say "use the supplied USB cord" instead of use any USB cord is because if you're like me... you've got LOTS of USB cords laying around.  Some of these come with devices that use USB for charging purposes.  And some of those USB cables ONLY bother to wire the power supply pins and not the data transfer pins.  In other words... it looks like a normal cable, but wont actually allow for data transfer.   You will need to take care to make sure you're using a proper cable.
Next I should caveat the use of USB hubs.  Whenever you're having a problem with a computer not recognizing a USB device, it's a good idea to disconnect extraneous USB devices that have nothing to do with your issue AND if there's a USB "hub" involved... bypass the hub and connect the camera directly to a USB port on the computer itself.
I use a USB hub and this particular hub is reliable... but truthfully I had to buy three different hubs before I found one that worked reliably.  I've discovered there are a lot of flakey hubs on the market.  When in doubt... bypass the hub.  If you find that you can get your computer to recognize your camera on a consistent basis if you bypass the hub then you can direct your attention to finding a reliable hub.
That's the end of the caveats.
I wrote a response to a user with a similar issue in which I detail the steps to use the Mac's System Information utility to determine if the camera is showing up as connected to the camera.  You can find that post here:

  • G5 won't recognize new RAM

I bought two sticks of this RAM http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other...g/3200DDR1024/ and put it in my Dual G5, following these instructions http://www.info.apple.com/usen/cip/pdf/g5/memory_c.pdf , but when I go to 'ABout this Mac,' it doesn't recognize that I've added RAM. I put the two sticks in slots 3 and 4 of the bottom half. I then tried putting the RAM into slots 3 on top and 3 on bottom, and then 4 on top and 4 on bottom....but it still won't recognize it. Did I do something wrong?

After reading your problem again, I believe we probably had the exact same thing. I have great news, though--my memory finally went down.
After reading the Crucial instructions (see my earlier post) I was more bold about the amount of force to use in pushing the sticks down, and I still couldn't get them down.
To check if the slots were in the wrong place, I ejected one of the original Apple sticks and compared the side of it to the side of the new sticks, and sure enough they were identical. At that point I decided to push even harder--it actually took an INSANE amount of force to get the sticks to click down--it was quite painful for my finger tips. If you guys have seen the instructional video on how to install memory on the OWC website, this was nothing like that. After sweating and applying a brutal amount of force, the sticks did finally pop down and the two side tabs clicked into place. When I booted the computer, the memory was there!
I would just caution you to make sure you're pushing straight down, because with that amount of force, pushing at any angle other than vertical would surely break the stick.
    Good luck,
    Ashwin

  • IPhone won't recognize new Apple ID

I updated my desktop iTunes to the new Apple ID - added an @aol.com to the end - per the new "rules". Now my iPhone 4s will not recognize my new password and prompts me to update my account when I type the old one. Can't update apps or sign into iTunes on my phone. I keep getting the pop-up "You need to update your account with iTunes Desktop." I've done that. When the prompt pops up for me to enter my password to update my apps it says my ID WITHOUT the @aol.com, which leads me to believe my phone doesn't "know" my "new" username. I've done soft resets on the phone (two), signed in and out of everything associated with iTunes and iCloud and tried putting in passwords dating back to a year. It won't recognize my new password but throws the "you need to update" prompt up when I try to use an old password. HALP.

I have taken the steps you said to do, but my iPhone is not recognizing my "old" password that I need to put in to turn off "Find my iPhone." I can't sign out. Which means I can't sign back in. I am able to sign in to forums like this with my new apple ID. But I can't get into my iCloud on my laptop. It seems like in order to try to deal with this problem I have changed my ID and password so many times that now I can barely log in anywhere. Should I just go to a Verizon or Apple store? Can they override my system and reset everything or something?

  • Lombard won't recognize new battery

After years of inactivity I wanted to give my old Lombard G3 to my little child so I bought new battery and new AC charger.
Now the problem is that Lombard won't recognize the new battery at all. Red cross on battery icon on top and empty slot in strip below.
I reset the Power manager as indicated here: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=14449
Also running Battery Reset 2.0 doesn't give me any results.
    What can I do now?
Thanks in advance for any help.

    fabiosko,
I'll just throw out some additional suggestions and comments.
-Does the battery have any charge, i.e. do any of the LEDs light up when you press the test button?
-Although it should make no difference, reset the PRAM also:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=2238
-Is your new power adapter 45 watts or more?
-Try the battery in the right bay.
-Allow the battery to sit in the powerbook overnight with the power adapter connected. Sometimes a non-charging battery will begin to charge again and it may also apply to a battery that is not recognized.
-Do you know someone with a Lombard or Pismo with whom you could swap batteries?
-The reputation of third-party replacement batteries is not the highest. You may have a bad battery and will need to exchange it.

  • Printer won't recognize new cartridge

My printer (All-in-one, 1200 series) won't recognize a new cartridge.
When the present one ran out of ink, I purchased a brand new Hp cartridge.  When I installed it, it says E (error) and won't do anything.  Thinking there was something wrong with this crtridge, I purchased another one....same thing.
I put in the empty cartridge, and it prints, but nothing comes out as it is empty.
Today, I called HP tech support, and they told me my printer was old and that I need to buy a new one!!!!!
    Some help!
I didn't have any refill black ink, but I do have colored.  I put blue ink in the empty black cartridge, and it is printing again beautifully.
Can anyone tell me why the printer won't print with the brand new cartridges????

    Hey Foldy,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
For the printer not recognizing the new ink cartridge that is installed, I have included two documents for you to follow. The first one is 'Check Print Cartridge Light Blinking'. Some of the steps you have already completed, please do the steps that you have not done already.
The second document is 'The Print Cartridge Detected is the Wrong Type'. Again some of the steps you will have already completed, please complete the steps that you haven't.
If you are still having the same issue after this, please let me know if the error has changed, and what lights are blinking on the printer.
    Looking forward to your reply.
I worked on behalf of HP

  • Time Machine won't recognize new external hard drive

I recently had a problem with My Passport and had to buy a new one.  I have plugged it in and reformatted it and now Time Machine won't recognize it even though it shows on my desktop and the disk utility doesn't see any problem.   Any ideas?

Disable Time Machine from System Preferences.
Choose Select disk button, remove the old TM backup disk and add the new one.

  • Computer won't recognize new Shuffle

Just got my new 4th Gen. Shuffle in the mail and connected it to my mac laptop but it won't recognize it. I've tried "resetting" the shuffle using Apple's directions, I've restarted my computer, downloaded the latest version of iTunes and NOTHING! Anyone else having issues? Do I need to call? This is ridiculous...

First, run through the Apple troubleshooting suggestions:
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/shuffle2gen/
That is for an older version of the ipod, but I would imagine that it will give you some good ideas.
If none of that helps, I would suggest completely uninstalling all the Apple stuff and reinstalling. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall itunes and whatever else was installed for Apple - that includes their USB software.
    Then, reinstall it all.
One other thing to try before doing all that is to shut down your computer and disconnect everything except for your keyboard, mouse and ipod. Then start it up again. If it comes up, then you know that some other USB thing on the bus was conflicting with your iPod. Also make sure you are connecting directly to the computer, not through a hub - just to make sure. If it works, then maybe try using the hub again. If it fails after that, you know it was the hub causing an issue. If it works, reconnect your USB items one at a time and restart after each reconnect until you find what was conflicting.
    Hope that helps,
    i

  • Mac won't recognize new color ink cartridge in printer

I just changed out my color ink cartridge on my HP printer when it ran out, whilst my printer recognized the new cartridge right away and printed out test pages, the Mac still won't recognize it. The message I get is "Color Print Cartridge Out of Ink". I have tried clicking on everything including Calibrate, Test, Clean etc, they all give me the same message, I can't get past it. Help!

Yes I have done that several times. I have also deleted the printer from printer setup utility and reloaded it. I have also connected the printer to an old laptop of mine and it printed there with no problems. However back on the Mac, it just won't let me print, the same message keeps coming up. Very frustrated...

  • Won't see new memory

I've got a new 8-core. Just installed a 2 gig memory kit from Crucial and the machine is not seeing it. The slots(DIMM3) that I put them in is showing as "empty". Crucial sent cards with this info on the static packet: 1GB 240 PIN 128Mx72 DDrs PC2-5300 Fully Buffered. Are these the right ones and if so, why won't it recognize it?

You install pairs on the same Riser, not 'across' both Risers.
When buying from Crucial, use their memory selector.
    Make sure fully seated.
You should have something like this when it arrived.
    Riser A: 512MB 512MB
    riser B: empty
What I would do now is ut 2 x 1GB in Riser B slots 1 and 2, or on top in 3 and 4.
You would be to put it in "B" empty Riser and put that in the top slot, and move the 2 x 512MB to bottom.
    Ideal: to have 2 x 1GB on both Risers for 4GB plus 2 x 512MB in slots 3 & 4 on top Riser.

  • Integrated my Itunes with limewire but won't recognize new songsHELP!

OK. I downloaded limewire...and then i downloaded iTunes. The limewire comes with iTunes integration once you have both and when you do a folder comes up in ur itunes mainscreen about owners limewire tunes.Well i looked in the troubleshooting part and found out how to get that folder into my library so i could sort them into playlists because im not the only one that uses this computer(and you can't put them into playlists if they aren't in your library)so now once i did that and got my playlists sorted out, now when I download the new songs they go right back into my owners limewire tunes and not the library ... so it's like all that was for nothing.... PLZ HELP!!!!!!!!!!!
      Windows XP
      Windows XP

That's one of the weird things.. it recognizes it maybe 10% of the time. And usually, only after I do the two-button reset. Problem is.. since it won't charge above 2%, anytime I try to do a restore or anything like that using iTunes, my device shuts off and I lose whatever progress I'd made.
So, an update... after reading through a bunch of similar complaints (there are literally 1000's of them so there's NO WAY this isn't somehow ios7 related, thanks a lot APPLE ) I decided to try a restore in recovery mode. After 3 hours and several disconnections... I ended up having to just set it up as a new iPad, as the restore did nothing. Weirdly though... as I was doing the restore in recovery mode.. I noticed I'd gotten up to a 10% charge.. higher than it's been since September, so after setting it up as a new device, I turned it off and plugged it in using the wall charger. 2 hours later and I was up to 38%. Still not great, as my iPad, before ios7 could've fully charged twice in the amount of time it took for me to now get 28% more of a charge. And that's with a fully cleaned out device.. so that really ***** and I'm now more confused than ever.
But I'm gonna leave it overnight charging and see what I come up with tomorrow. Sadly, when I paid $600 for it in February, I never expected to have to play "wait and see" with it...

  • WON'T RECOGNIZE NEW IPOD - 5th Gen.

I just purchased the new 5th Gen, 30 GB - after having had TWO 3rd and 4th Gen IPODS - both malfunctioing on me and of course, not being able to replace them with an actual NEW ipod, and not a "refurbished" one.
I have been trying for DAYS to load this new ipod with my music and my PC won't even recognize it??
I have gone through trouble shooting, restarted my pc, uninstalled/reinstalled software, unplugged/replugged wires. It keeps saying something about the USB connector...??
I am SERIOUSLY frustrated and on the verge of bringing this thing back for a refund b/c i have HAD IT with apple.
PLEASE, DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT'S WRONG?

It's saying "Firewire cables are not supported. To transfer songs, connect the USB cable provided"??? But that is what I've been doing?! I have been connecting my ipod to my pc with the wire that came with the ipod.
Then I even tried using the wire that came with the previous generation ipods - which has the little square piece that goes into the ipod and then the wire splits in two, and one wire goes into (what I think is) the firewall socket in my pc, and the other wire goes into this other socket.
That is what use to work with my other ipods. WHAT IS THE DEAL WITH THIS ONE?? Do I need another USB wire??
