Word 2010 and Adobe Acrobat Pro arent playing together nicely

Adobe keeps giving me an "unexpected error" when trying to convert a pdf from an existing Word 10 document.

I am sick and tired of all the Adobe apologists.  Office 2010 has been in Beta for a year now and Adobe's programmers could not create a Acrobat 9 compatiblity fix? Give me a break!
I spent a fortune on Acrobat Pro Extended only to find out that it has limited compatibility with Office 10 and the bundled Presenter has none.
What is wrong with Adobe??

This regards Adobe Reader XI 11.0.07 and Adobe Acrobat Pro XI 11.0.07 running on Win 7. Copying text in a text callout (to paste into a text callout in another pdf document (3 instances of Adobe open) sometimes (only sometimes) causes the program to crash, losing unsaved work. Windows Task Manager shows only a small percentage of cpu used and plenty of memory available. What is causing this?

This usually occurs if you use a browser that uses its own PDF viewer, not the Adobe Reader plugin; see http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/pdf-browser-plugin-configuration.html

  • Safari (and Adobe Acrobat Pro) take minutes to quit!!!

Safari 4.0.4 (and Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.2.0) take several minutes to quit on Mactel with Mac OS X 10.5.8. I thought that they had frozen after selecting to quit such applications, or logout, restart or shutdown the Mac, but if I leave the Mac for several minutes, they eventually quit.
What can it be? The Console does not indicate any special activity.

Thanks for the reply. Short answer: Safari, or Acrobat Pro.
In short, if I open Safari (or Acrobat Pro, or both), and quit them after a while (a few minutes or so), no problem. They quit as expected.
But if I open any of them (or both) in the morning (I cold boot the Mac in the morning and shut it down at night every single day) and try to quit any of them (Safari or Acrobat) at night, each one of them takes several minutes to quit. In fact, if instead of quitting them I try to shut down, I get the error:
"Logout has timed out" - "The application Safari failed to quit and is not responding"
    or
"Logout has timed out" - "The application Acrobat failed to quit and is not responding"
If then I leave the Mac idle a few minutes and them try to shut down the Mac again, it shuts down (this time, immediately; in one second or so).
IN SUMMARY. Something is preventing Safari (and the same for Acrobat Pro) to shut down normally in a few seconds. Instead, they need minutes to shut down.

  • Font difference between MS WORD and Adobe Acrobat Pro

I am facing an issue with Font difference between the PDF's which are created through MS word "Save as PDF" utility and Adobe PDF maker add-on. Let me explain what my analysis detail.
    1. Both MS word and Adobe acrobat using the font from the windows\fonts folder where my font Univers ATT font resides.  I have confirmed this with the Acrobat distiller. below is the screenshot.
    2. If I check the font properties through File->properties->Fonts tab both PDF font properties looks same.
    Save as PDF
    Adobe PDF
When comparing the PDF we are able to see the font formatting mismatch between these two PDF. Below screenshot.
Please advise me how to resolve the issue. The form should be match in formatting level also in order to proceed the implementation in my project.
    Expecting your answer soon.

    Thank you Bill.
Actually the difference not showing until we are selecting the Formatting option. The below screenshots illustrate the same.
    Comparing two documents:
The difference not showing before selecting formatting.
    Selecting the formatting option.
Once selected the formatting I am getting the formatting level difference between the PDF's. One is created with MS word SAVE AS PDF utility. The other PDF created with ADOBE PDFMAKER.
The comment pop-up clearly says in terms of font, fill color there should be difference. But I am not sure how Compare documents option comparing and showing the result. What all are the factors would be consider during comparison. Please help. Until resolving the issue I can't resume my project. Thanks in advance.

  • Confirmation That I Understand What I Can and Cannot Do With Adobe Reader XI and Adobe Acrobat Pro XI

I am new to working with Adobe Acrobat Pro XI and Adobe Reader XI.  Based on research I have done and questions answered in the Adobe Communities and Forum, I wanted to make sure I understand the limitations of these two products before I report back to my supervisor.  (We do not want to use XFA forms to obtain data in an xml file.)
    1.  Adobe Reader XI will allow a user to save a fillable PDF document to his/her local PC.  But it is only possible to save it as a PDF.
    2.  Adobe Reader XI will not allow a user to export the data in a fillable PDF into an xml file (unless you purchase the LiveCycle Reader Extensions license).
    3.  Adobe Reader XI will not allow a PDF file to be displayed in a .NET program unless the "Enable Protected Mode at startup" checkbox in Preferences/Security(Enhanced) has been unchecked.  (The previous version of Reader would allow this without disabling security.)
    4.  Adobe Acrobat Pro XI will allow a user to scan a form and create a fillable PDF.
    5.  Adobe Acrobat Pro XI will allow a user to save the fillable form as a PDF or XML.  However, it is the form that is being saved as an XML file.  Not the data.
    6.  Adobe Acrobat Pro XI will allow a user to export the data of a form into an xml file, an .fdf file, an .xfdf file, or a .txt file.
    7.  If a programmer writes a program in .NET to save the data of a PDF as an .xfdf file using IAC code, it will only work on a PC that has Adobe Acrobat (Standard or Pro).  If we need this executable to work on other PCs, we would need to purchase additional licenses of Adobe Acrobat - a license for every PC that needs to run the executable.
    8.  If a programmer writes  JavaScript code using trusted functions to get around security issues, that code will work on a PC that has Adobe Acrobat (Standard or Pro) but will not work on Adobe Reader XI.  Again, if we wanted our JavaScript to work, we would need to purchase Adobe Acrobat for every PC that would run the code.
Please let me know if I have understood all of this correctly.  Thank you.

Thank you for your comments to each of my statements, Irosenth.  That has been extremely helpful.
I probably needed more of an explanation on statement #3.  I wrote a .NET program that used this line:   "Process.Start("AcroRd32", FilePath)" and when I ran the executable on a desktop PC that only had Adobe Reader XI on it, Reader would not open unless we unchecked the "Enable Protected Mode at startup" box.  I researched this and found several references to this being a problem in Readers since Reader 9.  I just wanted to make sure this was correct.  One article indicated that we could change the security setting within the registry using code and then change it back.
Item #8 needed more information as well.  I had tried to use the "exportAsXFDF()" in a trusted function and it would never work in Reader.  It has an "F" in the availability column of the "Quick Bar" in the JavaScript API Reference which means it requires "forms rights".  I saw that; but it was not clear to me if that meant that a trusted function would work.  So, it looks like trusted functions will not get around security settings if forms rights are required.

  • Hyperlinks not converting when creating a pdf from Word 2010 to Adobe Acrobat 11.0.6

First off, let me say that these are not table of contents hyperlinks.  I have created a document in Word 2010 (not a MAC) with hyperlinks to files residing on our company's intranet.  In Word the hyperlinks work great but when I create the pdf, the links do not work.  I have converted using both PDFMaker from Word and Create a pdf from within Acrobat.  Yes, I have all the boxes checked regarding saving links.  The links appear to work partially.  Meaning that when I hover the cursor over the link, the pointy finger appears but when I click I get a pop-up message telling me the file could not be opened.  Also, when I hover over the hyperlink, the address appears.  So, I think it knows there's a link and it tries to open but can't.  When I create the file within Adobe the link works - once.  When I click on the link I get a pop-up window asking me if I want to save my file before closing.  After my response the file closes and the linked file opens.  However, when I go back into the file and try the hyperlink again, I get the pop-up telling me the file cannot be opened.  HELP!  I am at my wits end.  After spending hours yesterday trying to research (I think I read every thread related to hyperlinks but I am not using a Mac, table of contents or Adobe 7 around which it seems all the prior questions revolve) and futily creating and recreating the pdf (as if doing the same thing repeatedly would somehow magically work) I am about to give up.  This is a document that will be published to our intranet for use by employees which cross-references other documents to which they can refer for additional information.  I would prefer to publish a pdf and not a Word document.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks for your input Bill. I've checked the preferences and "view large images" is turned on. It's not all of the images which are missing, only certain ones do not transfer over to PDF.

  • Images Sent to Back move to front when converting from Word 2010 to Adobe Acrobat XI

Images that have been set "Send to Back" and wrapping is set to "Behind Text" will move to front, overlapping text when file is converted to Adobe Acrobat XI.  I'm on Windows 7.  Anyone having this problem?

How you convert the document to PDF format? Export/Create a PDF, Save as PDF, print as PDF, or using Adobe Acrobat?
Please try to save the document as PDF format and then check the result in Adobe Reader.
If you are using Word 2010/2013, the save as PDF is a build-in function and you can find it from File > Save as
If you are using Word 2007, please firstly download and install the Microsoft Office Add-in - Microsoft Save as PDF or XPS .

  • Outlook 2010 and Adobe Acrobat 9

I just purchase 3 licences of Adobe Acrobat 9 two days ago, and i notice that i can't create PDF with all methadata, and all attachment on it (like what i was able to do with Adobe Acrobat 9 + Outlook 2007 and 2003).
So my question is : Is there a fix somewhere, or coming that will make this work ?
I purchase these licence for three 60yrs old user that can use the little "Adobe Icon" on Outlook to create PDF, but will be completly lost if i ask to "print" and choose where...
Also, it as been purchase for legal issue : it keep all metha data and all attached document, in their native format.
So my latest question is : do i ask for refund (Adobe will do it, because i purchase that from them) or this will be fixed soon, and i only need to wait ?

Win7, Outlook 2010 and Acrobat Standard 9 are working on one of my laptops. I was helping someone else install who is having an issue with Outlook 2010 crashings.  I was looking for the difference.  On my laptop, I did not have the .dll add-in installed in Outlook, so when I print, I print to the Adobe printer.
I went to the non-working Adobe printer on the other laptop.  I went to change to get a new driver.  When the driver windo popped up, I noticed there were 2 options available.  One of them was a newer date and said that it was for a 64 bit operating system.  I selected that driver and it fixed my issue of not being able to print from Outlook to the Adobe printer.  It will now allow me to print and save the .PDF file during the printing process.
I do not know how Outlook 2010 is supposed to work with the add-in as I have never got that working.  So I do not know the difference.  So if you do have the add-in in Outlook and you are crashing even when it is disabled.  I would first suggest going to the re-install option when you boot from the installation CD and select modify.  Then go in and remove the Outlook add-in.  Then do what I have described above.  It works printing to the Adobe printer.

  • Upgraded to Adobe Acrobat Pro 10.1.1 and prior versions still present cause confusion.

After buying Adobe Acrobat X Pro, installing it, I see Adobe Acrobat 8 Provessional and Adobe Acrobat Pro still are listed as "applications".  Should these be removed?  If so, does using the Acrobat Uninstaller.app allow me to specifically delete each without destroying my Adobe Acrobat X Pro version? I use Mac OS X Version 10.6.8.  I would like to avoid reinstalling Acrobat X Pro, but for no particular reason except that things are working so well at the moment. This is what is listed on my computer now.

    Hi,
Before removing Acrobat 8 please check the version of AdobePDFViewer plug-in.
Go to (Drive where OS is installed)\Library\Internet Plug-Ins\ and click on AdobePDFViewer.plugin to check its version. Now follow the instructions below
    a) If the version of plugin starts with 10 then
         - Launch Acrobat 8 Professional
         - Go to Help-> Activation->Deactivae
         - Then quit Acrobat 8
          - Trash the "Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional" folder
    b) If the version of plugin starts with 8 then
          - Go to Acrobat 8 Professional folder
          - Launch the Acrobat Uninstaller app
          - in the browse dialog for uninstall select Adobe Acrobat Professional present in "Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional" folder
          - Reinstall Acrobat X Pro

  • Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.5.0 will not print SRA3 size paper

I created an Adobe InDesign file 320x450mm (SRA3) and saved it as a a High Quality PDF. However, when I print from Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 with SRA3 paper size settings, it defaults to A4 and the printer will not register the SRA3 paper size request. The tech from Canon updated the printer driver which increased print dialog options such as Paper Handling, Paper Source etc. (which I didn't have before) and spent over an hour running tests. We both agreed there was a software issue since there were not issues from other software:
I can print SRA3 files from InDesign and Microsoft Word, but not Adobe Acrobat Pro.
This is an ongoing problem since I often receive artwork in PDF format at this size.
My workaround is to place the PDF into InDesign, line up the crops by eye and print to SRA3 paper which works fine until I need to do a double sided print which becomes slightly innacurate and often time consuming.
    Canon printer driver specs:
    V2.0
    iR-ADV C5045/5051 PS (UK)

What happens if you select other paper sizes? Also ensure that 'choose paper source by PDF page size' is not checked at your print dialog.
Kindly let us know your results and if possible please forward us your pdf at [email protected]
Looking forward to help you out.
    Thanks

  • Problems in Windows 8 creating PDF documents using Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.5.5

I am running Windows 8 with the latest version of MS Office (version 14) and Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.5.5.  I was not having any problems making/printing PDF documents until about 30 days ago.  The only things that I can think of that have changed during this time period is 1) I updated my Office Suite to version 14 from the previous version and, most recently, 2) my Adobe Acrobat Reader program was automatically updated to the latest version.  I ended-up uninstalled Adobe Reader becuase the new program became my default for openning all Adobe PDF files, even when I tried to force my computer to use Adobe Acrobat Pro as the default (becuase doing so allows me to edit docments with features not available in the free Reader version).  When I go to print a Word document, for example, to Adobe Acrobat, the process stalls/stops at the point where you are supposed to choose a location to print/safe the new PDF document file.  All I get is the Save-As Screen with most of the buttons and folder tree blank (see example below).  After 5-10 seconds, "not responding" shows up in the title of the Save-As Screen and I have to click the "X" box in the upper right corner to abort.  This problem seems to have first started when trying to print pictures from the Windows picture viewer.  After a while long, I noticed that the same problem occured when printing from my internet browser (Firefox), but I coudl still print from Word or Excel.  Now, as of the last couple of days, I can't print from any program except the basic Paint software program.  I think this may actually be a Windows issue because when trying to toublshoot this problem, I re-installed Adobe Acrobat Pro and it did not help. I also tried making PDF documents using the free PrimoPDF software and had the exact same problem.  I have no idea where to go from here.  All I know is that I desperately need to create PDF documents and cannot!  Please help!!

You're asking a lot of ancient Acrobat to work with an Office that never existed when it was made. "Just updated my office suite" is a massive change, and Window 8 didn't exist at that time either...

  • PDF files opens in Adobe Reader  9 but not Adobe Acrobat Pro 9

After one of my users digitally signs a PDF file, and saves it, he cannot open it again.
He gets either a reference memory error or a Font Capture error.
I can open the same PDF file with Adobe Reader 9 and Adobe Acrobat Pro 8.
If  I take the same file to a system with Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 - same error on the same file.
Happens to my administrator account as well.

So the option was already checked when opened the document. I went ahead and unchecked, closed, reopened just to test and it's still not displaying correctly.
In response to Bill@VT. The image is on top of a white background so I can't tell if there is space there or not, it's just all white.
She showed me another document that's doing something similar today. This time the pdf was done with a green background and now the background shows as white. It was created the same way with Indesign and it shows fine in Reader and the Windows preview pane just not Acrobat. I'm trying to get the user to find the installation media so I can remove and reinstall, but I'm not sure if she will be able to find it.

  • Serial number is invalid for Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 within CS4

    Hi,
I purchased Adobe CS4 Creative Suite Design Standard. Upon installing the four programs it contains (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and Adobe Acrobat Pro) I keyed in the serial number and InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop worked fine, but Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 kept showing a red 'X' at the end of the serial key input, saying my "serial number was invalid".
    1. Incorrect tech support advice #1:  Adobe tech told me to de-install and re-install from Adobe purchase e-mail link only instead of from trial versions. I did this, and then none of the programs worked or accepted the serial number. I went back to trial versions, and again 3 out of the 4 programs took the serial number - all EXCEPT Acrobat.
    2. Incorrect tech support advice #2:  Opened a case # online and waited a week for some kind of help, but once again got on the phone. This time I was told that the key was to select "Universal English" as the main option. Again I de-installed Acrobat and re-installed.  There were no options for "universal English" ( you have to choose between English, Francais and Deutsch). Only when I got to the End User License Agreement was there an option to choose "English (International)". So I did as advised. Once again I entered my serial number and got a big red 'X'.  I'm at the end of my Adobe rope.....
Does anyone have any idea how to solve this issue?
    Thanks.

oh man, i think i am having a bigger problem now. I tried to uninstall the whole CS4 suite and was prompt to enter my serial key, to my horror, the big red cross appears. Making my serial key invalid for the whole suite. What is going on man. I think this really screw up my system, i am using vista 64. I am going to reformat my computer and try to reinstall, but i did not deactivate. Will this cause my just bought CS4 useless???? I am starting to get worried.

    Hey quantum info,
Thank you for posting at Adobe forums. We would love to help you out.
Could you please let me know if you have tried converting other web pages to PDF and checked if the same issue persists.
How have you been trying to convert the web page to PDF?
Are you trying to convert to PDF directly via browsers or using "File > Create > PDF from Web Page"  option in Acrobat.
Let me know more so that I can analyze where actually the issue persists.
