Word Count/PDF uploads

I am very new to LiveCycle Designer. A form has been was previously created and I need to add additional items. Currently, I need to add a word count to a text field. Does anyone have a script that they are currently using for the word count? Also, can you create and option where the form will allow an upload anything other than a jpeg to the form (like a word.doc or pdf)?
Thanks,
Jennifer Jones

You should ask these questions in the LiveCycle Designer forum. This one is for forms created in Acrobat (Acroforms).
But I'll take a stab at the upload question here. If you mean that you want to allow the user to attach a file to the PDF, then there are two ways if it needs to work with Reader. The first involves Reader-enabling the form with LiveCycle Reader Extensions, which has the option of adding the file attachments usage right. This usage right cannot be added when enabling the document with Acrobat. If the form is a static XFA, as opposed to dynamic, then if you enable the document so that commenting is allowed, then users can attach files as comments.

  • When converting a PDF document to word, the word count feature is not giving me the number of words

I have been using Acrobat for converting PDF documents to Word.  It had been working just fine, but lately, when I convert a PDF document to Word, it is not giving me the word count, which is why I subscribed in the first place. Someone has any idea of why?

    Hi Robin,
I would recommend you to use Acrobat software to convert this pdf file, Acrobat software enable you to customize the conversion settings.
You can download a free 30-day trial from this Link : https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/acrobat-downloads.html
After downloading and installing acrobat, Open pdf file in Acrobat, go to File menu -> Click 'save as other' -> Microsoft Word -> Word Document.
A pop-up window will appear that would prompt you to choose the file to be converted, after you select the file, click on the settings button on the bottom left of the pop-up window and choose 'Retain Page layout' under layout settings, click ok and then save.
Hope that helps with your query.

  • Storing MS-Word and PDF documents in database uploaded through APEX

I want to allow users to upload MS-Word and PDF documents they have created / edited outside of the APEX app for storage in the database along with the other app data.
I know that I should use a file browse item in a region for this purpose.
    I have a some questions:
    1. What database datatype is best for storing MS-Word and PDF docs? CLOB?
    2. How can the user see that the file has been uploaded? In other words, how can they see that the filename has been uploaded? I want to show this on the page for later viewing. I have uploaded a document, but later, I have no way to see that the document has in fact been uploaded. From the APEX page, the file browse item does not indicate whether or not a file has previously been uploaded.
    3. How can the user download the previously uploaded document?
    4. Is there a way to give users the capability to edit a document in an APEX app where they can do MS-Word-like editing (font size, font type, bold, italics, etc.)?
I know I've asked a lot here and I appreciate your input.

  • How to Count total number of Words in PDF?

I am used Adobe Acrobat javascript inbuilt function getPageNumWords(<pagenumber>) it return the number of words present in specified page, but while am copy and paste text content from PDF file to MS Word, Words count given by MS Word is little bit differ, so any one know in which aspect Acrobat count the words?
Which words count result is correct?
Shall is go with Acrobat Words count result or MS Words count result?
But I want to count the total number of words in PDF file (my input is PDF file) else can I go with iText?
Words count in PDf using iText is possible?

Word counts are likely to vary a little according to how you count. For instance, are hyphenated words one or two words? What if the hyphen is at the end of a line? Do numbers count as words? Headers and footers? Captions?
Generally, you just accept a slight variation. If you are counting words in a professional context, i.e. where payment is per word, you probably need a contractual definition of how words are to be counted; in the absence of one, I suggest you use Word.

  • How to upload words, exel, PDF file from the pc via itune to the iPad, and where will the uploaded file be saved? In the apps?

How to upload words, exel, PDF file from the pc via itune to the iPad, and where will the uploaded file be saved? In the apps?

You will need an app (or apps) on your iPad that is capable of reading the documents, as they will be saved with the app - if you don't have such an app then there is nothing to transfer them to or to read/access them.
One method of transferring them is toconnect your iPad to your computer's iTunes, select it's app tab, and then scroll to the bottom of it - you should the apps That you've got that are capable of file-sharing (if you've got any).  Selecting/high-lighting one of them should then allow you to add files to it via the box to the right of it.
An alternative way to get the documents onto your iPad is if the app that you want to transfer them to has a wifi setting, which will then allow you to transfer the documents wirelessly. You can also send the documents to yourself as attachments and then use Mail's 'open in' facility to copy them into your chosen app.
Edit : more info on file sharing from the manual :
File Sharing lets you transfer files between iPad and your computer. You can share files created with a compatible app and saved in a supported format.
Apps that support file sharing appear in the File Sharing Apps list in iTunes. For each app, the Files list shows the documents that are on iPad. See the app’s documentation for how it shares files; not all apps support this feature.
    Connect iPad to your computer.
In iTunes, select iPad in the Devices list, then click Apps at the top of the screen.
In the File Sharing section, select an app from the list on the left.
On the right, select the file you want to transfer, then click “Save to” and choose a destination on your computer.
Transfer a file from your computer to iPad:
    Connect iPad to your computer.
In iTunes, select iPad in the Devices list, then click Apps at the top of the screen.
In the File Sharing section, click Add.
Select a file, then click Choose (Mac) or OK (PC).
The file is transferred to your device and can be opened using an app that supports that file type. To transfer more than one file, select each additional file.
Delete a file from iPad: Select the file in the Files list, then tap Delete.

You had to teach me that quotes are required for Preview under 10.5 because I don't use 10.5 !
In fact I don't use Preview because I prefer Adobe Reader which displays my docs a better way.
    here Preview under 10.5
    here Adobe Reader (10.4 and/or 10.5)
More to the point is that if the Word Count function is in a logical location, why are so many unable to find it without resorting to searches of the manual?
Because most of them doesn't search seriously.
But, even it the location was odd, it's not normal that they ask here before searching in the Help AND in the PDF User Guide.
The forum is not a catch all questions recipient.
The Help and terms of use clearly urges them to search in the delivered resources.
    These resources are:
    (1) the menus themselves
    (2) the Inspectors themselves
    (3) the Help
    (4) the PDF User Guide which is delivered with every copy of iWork, on disk or in downloaded versions
    (5) last not least, in the existing threads.
For my own use, I searched in the Help and in the PDF because I was surprised to read users claiming that they didn't found the info.
Doing that, I discovered that what _I got in the Edit menu_ is also available in an Inspector in which I had never searched as I was already able to get the tool in the menu.
When I searched in the Help I found nothing useful.
When I searched in the PDF, as I am running 10.4, Preview and Adobe Reader gave the response instantaneously.
You wrote here that under 10.5, Preview behaves differently.
I checked and in my response I wrote that quotes may be required.
Last not least, searching in the existing threads give also the response immediately.
So, from my point of view, if we continue to read the question here it's only because many users think _"why would I make the effort to search by myself when there will be some one which will give the response on the forum"_ . In other words, lazyness is becoming the rule.

  • Putting Word Count in Pages Document

Is there a way to insert a document's current word count directly into the body of the document? In other words, is there a way to do the equivalent of "Insert Page Number" or "Insert Page Count" for word count?

It's dificult to read page 307 in a guide containing 266 pages.
On page 37 I may read how to view word count and other document statistics but,
    - I saw nothing about current weather
    - I saw nothing about a way to insert the word count in the document as it was asked by the OP
    As far as I know,
we may insert page num, page count, date time, file name
    but we only
    may display word count.

If your mail service allows all of that to be sent as attachments or however you are attempting that then it's possible the email server or servers receiving the email do not allow attachments that large.
You say you are sending "a combination of MS Word and pdf files and attachments". I've never sent anything like that. I have zipped various files into a zip file then attached that to an email for sending.
Googles mail appears to allow a total of 25 megabytes of attachments in a single email.
Yahoo mail appears to allow a total of 25 megabytes also.
Microsofts mail appears to allow a total of 20 megabytes of attachments in a single email.
Another option would be to upload everything to your onedrives public folder and provide a link for others to download all of it in the email you send out.
A single users onedrive supposedly can have up to 10 gigabytes loaded onto it. I suppose all of that could be used by the public folder but maybe not.

I have the following question: Does InDesign CS6 offer am option to create an interactive PDF with a text/form field which allows ONLY a defined number of words?
In this particular case I would like to create a DIN A4 page with a file dwhich allows for exactly 350 words to make the document printable. If one put's in less than 350 printing should be disallowed and at the same time it should be impossible to type more than the allowed number of words.
    Jörg Hippo Thomsen

    Hi Steve!
Thanks to a google search I have managed to solve the issue flawlessly
Look  at this little java script:
    var val = event.value + event.change,
    matches = val.match(/\b[\w\-\']+\b/g),
    count = matches.length;
    this.getField("charCount").value = count;
    if (count > 90) { app.alert("You have exceeded the maximum of 90 words for this text field.") }
    1. This script needs to be inserted under Properties/Format/Custom/Custom Key Stroke Script.
    2. One creates a second fiield namend charCount to display the word count.
Voila! The text field will pop up a warning if the allowed maximum word count is exceeded and it will display the word count in the extra field

  • Saving a WORD or PDF document in the database?

    Hello,
If I have a WORD document, PDF document or EXCEL document. How can I save them in the database? What type of LOB I should use.
What I would like to do is have a webpage with a text box and a browse button. The user can then use the browse buttton to find the file and have its location inserted into the text box. Then the user can click another button to add the file to the database.
Once the file is in the database - I also want to have an update page where the user can change the files saved in the database or delete them also
    Thanks
    Doug

Well, Word and Excel documents are binary, so you will need a Binary LOB (BLOB).
    I have recently been storing/retrieving BLOBs through ASP/ADO . . .
BLOBs are limited to 4GB, but ADO has a limit of 2GB. Hopefully, that will not be a problem.
If you are using ODBC, then be aware that you need to enable LOBs by setting LOB=T in the connection string. If you are using ODBC with stored procedures, then there is a bug that causes the LOBs to be truncated to 32K, which is fixed in 9.2.0.6.5. A colleague tells me that the Microsoft ODBC Driver for Oracle works with LONGs but not with LOBs.
If you are using OleDB with stored procedures, then you'll need to set the "SPPrmsLOB" property to TRUE.
When uploading BLOBs through ADO, you need to set the parameter size to 1 higher than the actual size, otherwise you get an error.
When retrieving the BLOBs through stored procedures as OUT parameters, you need to set the parameter size to larger than the BLOB, otherwise it gets truncated. I do not like having to specify 2GB for a file that might only be 32K, so I prefer to return a record set via a REF CURSOR.

View menu > Show Word Count.
A floating panel will appear at the bottom of your document. Pass your mouse over the right-side of this floating panel and you will see up/down arrows. Click. Choose Word count from the list of available counts. The floating panel now displays word count, until you change it again. You can also move this floating panel with a command+click+drag, in case you want it below your footer content.
You might want to download the free WordService service solution from the OS X App Store. I provides you with many additional features (e.g. Sort Ascending, Document Statistics, etc.) The act of downloading this application will install, but not activate several services. You activate what you want in:
    System Preferences > Keyboard > Shortcuts > Services : WordService:servicename.
The WordService application will be in your LaunchPad (on your left Dock). Run it and choose Help. This will launch the Preview PDF viewer and a document showing all the Services available, and their description. Services in OS X act on selected document content. If you want more detail on the number of words, characters, and spaces in a selected paragraph, you would use Pages > Services > WordService:Statistics.
