Word office malfunction

Since I have updated my mac air to OS X version 10.9.2, the word office will not open any new downloaded word documents, what should I do?

Wrap malfunction? or just not turned on for the inserted object? Check the settings for the object in the Wrap Inspector.

    Hi,
You must have read this thread:

To detail the steps, please do as I describe:
    Important
This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the
registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry,
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Back-up-the-registry
To open the Registry Editor, please press Win + R, type regedit in the blank box, press
Enter. / Or we can type regedit.exe in Windows 8.1 Search, you'll find it easily.
Now the Registry Editor is open.
Then we see the pane on left, expand the following path:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders
Then we can see a list on right, find Cache, right click on it, click
Modify..., under Value data, change the value to something like
    C:\Windows\Temp, click OK.
    Exit Registry Editor.
As for "You might also right click on the file with file explorer, choose Properties, then General tab and click on the Unblock button." Just find the file, right click on it, choose
Properties, under General tab, if you see a
    Unblock button, click on it.
"Some of our customers found it sometimes a permission problem.
cmd  => dcomcnfg" Do the following:
Press Win + R, type in cmd in the blank box, press
    Enter.
In the new black-background window, type in dcomcnfg, press
    Enter.
Then the Component Services window will pop up, on the left pane, expand
    Component services -> Computes ->
My Computer -> Dcom config -> and select
Microsoft Excel Application, right click on it -> Properties ->
Identity tab -> Select The interactive user ->
    OK.
I hope I've explained the steps clearly.
    Good luck.

  • Word (Office 2001) gives Type 2 error at start-up - help needed

Good day - I'm puzzled by a problem I'm unable to resolve. First, Word (part of the Office 2001 suite) suddenly lost it's pull-down menus, including the About tab, and then, upon relaunch, gave me a Type 2 error and refused to start. It first shows the Start-up 'Gallery' scene, and when you try to open an existing document or a new Word document, it then briefly shows the Word template and then crashes with a Type 2 error (I've run this program for years without any major issues). When I couldn't get this resolved after re-starting with a desktop rebuild, I checked the other applications - Entourage, PowerPoint, and Excel, and they all work fine. I trashed the Microsoft prefs - still no change. I removed the fonts - no change. I reloaded the MS Word portion of the Suite - no change. I zapped the PRAM, tested all the system extensions, even replaced the Internet Prefs - no joy. I even went so far as to do a Clean Install of new System software from my software install disk. Other than this, I haven't loaded any new software or done anything that I can think would cause this, and the odd thing is that the program installed on the hard disk WILL RUN when I boot from a restore or Norton system CD! Yet, when I reboot into my system on the hard drive, I'm back to the error message. With brand new system software the application will crash as before. Short of completing re-installing the Office 2001 suite (which I don't want to do, as I will likely lose all my email and address book and calendar) or re-initializing the hard drive and completely starting over, losing everything, I'm at a loss. I have run Norton (de-fragged the HD, ran anti-virus, etc.), checked my hardware with the hardware test disk, used Disk First Aid, all to no avail - no problems with memory, hardware or software indicated. The only thing I haven't done is update drivers, primarily because I have a newer (3.2.8) disk driver on the system than the Driver Utility has, and I don't want to replace it with 3.2.7. Does anyone have any ideas as to what may be causing this, or have any ideas before I'm forced to take this to a Mac repair facility? Thanks in advance...

Greetings to all - Thank you for your replies and help. I did this in reverse order to the posts. Trashing the ASLM, Finder, Mac OS and System Prefs provided the same result - Type 2 error at Word start-up. I had tested extensions using the extensions manager in sets of 5 with no change previously; I restarted with all extensions off (shift key at start-up) and got the same Type 2 error when launching MS Word.
Further info: I've tried this with VM at 1M + installed memory and with VW at double installed memory and it made no difference (I've always used VM in substantial blocks, even with VPC, which I use daily). I've removed ATM 4.6 as a precaution. I've also tried to remove everything that interfaces with MS Word - PrinToPDF comes to mind, as well as all non-original fonts.
I'm puzzled by one thing, which may be nothing but a curiosity, and it may have to do with the way I'm installing MS Word in an attempt to overcome this issue. As you know, Office 2001 provides you with a number which you need to retain upon installation. My original number, then, becomes superceded with each install; in other words, the last 4 numbers changes, out of the original 54092-XXX-XXXXXXX-XXXXX number provided. A number shows up on the initial lauch window; the problem I detect is that this number isn't the number given at the last install, but the ORIGINAL number I was given when the program was originally installed. This 'suggests' that perhaps the problem is with MS Word itself, as you'd think the program at lauch would recognize the new ID number given when the program files are re-installed using custom install. As an aside, I originally tried to do a 'drag and drop install of the Office 2001 folder, as suggested on the install disk; the system read the item numbers and gave me a 'preparing to copy' message and a spinning beach ball for 20 minutes before I was more or less forced to restart the computer with the reset button. I'm unsure this makes any difference, given that the program will launch with a boot disk, and all of the other modules will launch as they always have.
I'm appreciative of your help and comments. I didn't realize that this forum existed before, having been using a local MUG forum exclusively, and I suspect I'll use it a lot in the coming months as I coax an aging machine to continue working. This may be the first time in 20 years of Mac ownership that a technician might be called for, but I'm hoping for an easier solution.

  • Pages as Default Word Processor for .doc Microsoft Word (Office) Files

In reading the system topics, there was a nice simple help solution. Find a .doc file. Do a Get Info (CMD-I) on the file and then under the File Options choose Pages, and indicate that this works for all .doc files.
BUT... Wunderkind Apple Engineers who put ease-of-use above everything, that is still about four steps harder than going into the PREFERENCES on either PAGES or Text Edit, or even having a centralized prefs in the System Preferences Panel that lets you pick and choose what APPs run what files.
How about sticking a check box into the APP to change it over? Or is that offending the powers-that-be in Redmond so badly that they might do to Office what they did to Internet Explorer on the Mac?
iWork outshines Office. Give us an easier route to LIVE MICROSOFT FREE!
    Applejedi1

    Dennis:
    Lets clarify. In Pages:
    File>Preferences
Do you want Pages to be your default reader for:
    CHECKBOX - .doc (Word Files)
CHECKBOX - .txt, csv (Text Files)
Do you want Pages to automatically save a Word file of your document:
PULLDOWN: In addition to creating a pages file; (Indicate where page may be placed)
    Instead of creating a pages file;
And Yes, for the end-user who is new to Macs or new to computers in general, simplifying the handling of documents to a preference in the System controls would make sense. Then each App wouldn't have to do it, or could modify the central file if say Firefox wanted to be your browser/handler of choice, and asked you if you want it to be the primary control of that kind of content. Why shouldn't Pages be able to ask/set up the program easily so that the user can just get about the business of using the program? Your solution is nice, but it is still at a level that you have to be comfortable with working with files and GET INFO, which, while it doesn't phase you or me, would freak out my technophobic 14 year old daughter or my wife.

  • Acrobat 3D and Word/Office 2007 issues

Is anyone having issues with Word 2007 docs after installing the Tech Comm Suite? We think it might be related to Acrobat 3D.
Word 2007 docs show the index markers even when the Show/Hide Paragraph setting is turned off.
Also, an error ("Compile error and hidden module distmon")appears when opening an Excel 2007 doc.
If anyone has any insight or how to possibly fix this, please let me know. Thanks for your help!

    Thanks for the reply,
we are using 'Oracle XML Publisher Template Builder for Word' Version 5.6 Build 45.
I have looked again in Word 2007. I went to Word Options > Add-Ins
Various Add-Ins are listed. There is an inactive one called 'Custom XML Data':
    Publisher:'Microsoft Corporation'
    Location: 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\OFFRHD.DLL'
Description: Inspects for custom XML data stored with this documentAm I right in guessing this has nothing to do with XMLP?
There is nothing else in the list relating to XMLP.
    Any advice much appreciated!

  • Microsoft Word Office 2012 wont open

Hello I purchased my computer with Office 2010 in May 2010. It works great and everything but recently when I am on the internet and click a file to open and/or download it ask me to enter my product key. I never had to install that before because it came
with my computer. When I go to the Start menu, Program features and Office 2010 it only gives the option to uninstall not repair. For me to get my files I have to save it to my computer, go to the start menu and launch Microsoft Word and then find it in the
Open tab. Please help this is pretty annoying.

    Hi
Did you mean your Word program works well when you go to Start>Microsoft Word and launch the program?
If it is true, there might be something wrong with your default open program.
First locate your Office installation path, and find winword.exe.
Right click on the file, Open with>Select default program>Look for another app on this computer go to the right path and select the winword.exe. Remember to check the option: Use this program for all doc/docx files.

  • Adding Quick Parts Programmatically Using Word Office Model

I need to add Document ID Value quickpart to a very large number of existing documents and I would like to make a program to do so.  I'm afraid googling the issue has left me a little confused.  As far as I can tell, the rough form of the footer-insertion
part of the solution (in C#) looks something like this:
    Word.Application iWord = new Word.Application();
    Word.Document iDoc = iWord.Documents.Open(savePath);
    foreach (Word.Section wordSection in iDoc.Sections)
    Word.Range footerRange = wordSection.Footers[Word.WdHeaderFooterIndex.wdHeaderFooterPrimary].Range;
    footerRange.DoSomething()
    iDoc.Save();
But I can't seem to figure out the details of DoSomething().
Please note that it must be the dynamic field, equivalent to Design->Quick Parts->Document Property->Document ID Value, not simply text.
    Thanks!

The quickparts listed in the Document Property dropdown are either the standard ones (corresponding to standard builtin document properties such as Author), the "newer" Cover Page ones, or columns in a SharePoint document library. (If yours is
something else, please let us know).
So I assume that yours is a "SharePoint column." If not, the rest of this message is unlikely to help.
If so, there is no simple facility in the Word Object Model to replicate exactly what happens when you insert that quick part from the Document Property menu. To do it in code, you have to
     a. insert the right kind of content control (probably a plain text one in this case) and give it a suitable Title/Tag
     b. connect it to the correct element in the Custom XML data store.
I have the starting point of some VBA code for that (see below). You'd obviously need to adapt it for C# and to insert at a range rather than the selection.
The only other aproach I know would be
     a. manually insert a copy of the content control that you want and adjust its properties as required
     b. make a copy of that somewhere where you can retrieve and use it programmatically (e.g. create a new building block/glossary entry or some such)
     c. programmatically insert that wherever you need it
However, in that case, you will need to be sure that the same namespace GUID is used for the property in all your documents. If, for example, someone has created a separate "Document ID" column in a number of different document libraries, each
Document ID may have a different namespace GUID. If the Document ID column is a site column and all the documents are on the same site or have come from the same site, they may share a namespace GUID.
FWIW the code I have for getting Xpath and value information given a property name is as follows. It was orignally written to try to deal with a particular
type of property that I hope you don't have to deal with :-)
    Sub TESTinsertCC()
' Put a property name in here instead of "col1text" and see if you
' get a viable Content Control at the Selection
    Debug.Print insertCC(Selection.Range, "col1text").XMLMapping.XPath
    End Sub
Function insertCC(theRange As Word.Range, ContentTypeItemName As String) As ContentControl
    'Dim cc As Word.ContentControl
    Set insertCC = theRange.ContentControls.Add(wdContentControlText)
    With insertCC
    .XMLMapping.SetMapping getDIPPropXPath(theRange.Document, ContentTypeItemName)
    End With
    'Set cc = Nothing
    End Function
    Function getDIPPropXPath(TheDocument As Word.Document, _
    ContentTypeItemName As String) As String
' Attempts to retrieve the display value of a ContentTypeProperty that
' cannot be returned directly using the MetaProperty.Value property
' TheDocument is the Word document containing the properties
' ContentTypeItemName is the displayName of the item
' Assume we cannot get this item from the MetaAttribute Value
' because VBA does not recognise the Variant Type or content
' Two ways we could do it:
' a. get the Custom XML Part that contains the data and iterate
' through the nodes until we find the one we need.
' b. get the Custom XML part the contains the schema(s) and
' retrieve the XML Element name and Namespace name, then
' get the Custom XML part that contains the schema(s) and
' retrieve the 1st sub-element of the element.
' This attempts (b). Lots of assumptions, including
' - the namespace name of the schema and data parts are fixed
' and there is either only one Custom XML Part with that
' name or the first one is the one we want
' - the leaf element of the first sub-branch of the element
' But there are assumptions in (a), too, e.g. that there
' aren't two complex items in the DIP with the same name but
    ' different namespaces.
' Can almost certainly be improved by inspecting the other
' properties in the schema to identify precisely which type
' of property we are dealing with. Unfortunately, even this does
' not appear to be reliably available from the COntentTypeProperties
    ' info.

  • Document Templates in MS Word (Office-Integration)

    Hi there,
i´m desperately looking for help concerning the following problem with integration of MS Word-Templates to our CRM:
We are using CRM 5.0 (as well as PCUI) and Office Integration with MS Word 2003. We created Document Templates (for Object Type BUS2000126) in MS Word witch contain variables, integrated as MergeField in the Word Template.
This works quite well, but we have problems when using switches.
For example field code: {MERGEFIELD ANS_Title   ""} = field result
shows (for example) "Dr.f" instead of "Dr. ". The switch   should fill
in a space if the variable is not blank.
By the way... when I create the Word-Template from SAP GUI, switches give back the right data - but not from PCUI!
Can anybody help me with this problem?
    Thanks!

    Hi Johnny,
thank you very much for your help. But I think, this SAP Note does not help. The SAP Note is valid for CRM 4.0 - but we actually use CRM 5.0. If you have any further ideas, please let me know!
    Best regards

  • Lion and MS Word (Office 2011) system crash

After installing Lion and the auto upgrades, hard disk drive began to become corrupt when saving a large MS Word document (Office 2011 for MAC).  Quickly the system failed with line after line of errors reported with the Disk Utility in the verify disk mode.  Eventally the system stopped operating with a diagnosis of hard disk drive failure (Apple Store Indy).  Replaced the hard disk drive, within one week the same failure mode occurred.  At this point had to erase the hard drive and to reinstall the OS.  Again within one week the same message appeared and the system again crashed.
Took machine to Apple Store with the request to revert back to Snow Lepard.  Told that the Time Machine back up would only work when Lion was reinstalled.  Reinstalled Lion, Time Machine backed up system.  Copied all data files to external HD, then erased hard disk drive and installed Snow Lepard OS.
During the entire time of Lion install, Word failed time after time.  Immediately after reverting back to Snow Lepard, Word began to operate normally, with the ability to save the large Word documents that consistenly failed with Lion OS.

You did not install Office 2010, that is (as citrus pointed out) a Windows program, what exactly did you install?

  • Problems with Word (office x) since 10.4.7

I cannot use Word since installing 10.4.7. Starts up, then when I chose a blank doc or a template, it closes down. I can open other previously created docs but cannot use it to create new ones. reinstalled the service pak from earlier but still no luck. I do notice that when it starts up, it does NOT provide a splash screen but goes immediately to the doc choices, i.e., blank, templates, etc.
    any thoughts?

the bad fonts(10 of them) all had the extension ".dfont", one ttf and one quickbooks. I ran it several times after removing these fonts and all came up ok.....i've also got mellel and mariner write but haven't used them. it was so easy to create the templates in Word I got spoiled. I just created one new template in mellel so I may not need to get back into word after all. I can save everyhting in mellel or mariner write to pdf so i think i might have seen my last ms experience. I might try to reinstall office and see what happens.....and just when I was trying to get paperless and was starting to scan all my paper into the computer so am moving everything over to pdf format.......

Uninstall Office for Mac 2011, and then reinstall it. Apply the latest Office 14.4.8 update. Use Disk Utility to verify/repair permissions on your boot drive. Revisit any duplicate fonts in Font Book. Reboot Mac into Safe Boot mode to rebuild system font cache.

  • I need to write a paper for class. I have a MacBook Air but feel like I don't know what to do to create a document such I did with Microcoft word (Office). I am new to Apple.

I just bought the MAcBook Air but need to write a paper. I don't know how to create a file or document.

    You have several options--some free.
You can buy Office 2011 for Mac ( http://www.microsoft.com/mac/products )
Your computer should have come with iWork that includes Pages, an Apple word processor. It can create Word-compatible files. http://www.apple.com/mac/pages/
You can get the open-source (donationware) LibreOffice. Reads and writes Office files like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint: http://www.libreoffice.org/discover/libreoffice/

  • Word/Office 2008 Mac

I recently installed Office 2008 on my Mac. Dreamweaver CS3
does not allow me to paste copied Word files into new files. It
says that it does not recognize the format of the files. I can save
the files as Word htm files and use them that way but DW won't
allow me to revise/change those files. Is there a patch to fix
this? Has anyone else encountered this problem?

    Open Word 2008
Save as Word 2004 Format may be listed as 95-2004 (.com)
    DW will open as before.
Unless you have CS3 (DW9) version it won't recognize DOCX
    format DOCX
format uses XML and its said you can post directly on a
    website and it
can viewed. Recently a question on the msnews Office for Mac
