How do I change from double spacing to single spacing and make it stick?

Hi,
Which Wordpad (under which Operating system) are you using ? Please check this:

  • Word 2008 line spacing.. is single space and double space all messed up?

    Very basic here: in print layout view (only one I am using) the single spacing and double spacing seem so far apart. Single spacing is way too far apart. Is anyone else seeing this?

    That is the issue. I am hitting enter and getting a big space. I see a similar thing in Pages. All I know is tht in 2004 version, I start all my papers with 4 lines in top corner (name-enter/date-enter/assignment/class#-enter) I do these with single space just by default on Word.
    THen I go to format-paragraph-double space, and do my writing--double spaced.
    This is weird to me. I like word 2008, looks nice, notebook is cool. But I don't like having to re-learn that stuff. Is this how everybody does this? Everyone out of the box can not just type and choose single/double space? We have to edit some paragraph spacing? HUH?

  • Problems with Word Doc line spacing

    I have multiple word docs to bring in and each time, all though the word doc is formatted like I need (italic headers, diff font sizes etc…) Indesign brings it in double spaced although it is not that way in the word doc. At this point I am having to go to the end of each line, delete to bring the next line to the end of that one, then shift+enter to drop it down 1 line. I have 11 documents that are 5-10 pages each…. Is there a way to avoid having to do all of that??? I have tried tweaking the leading via the justification panel as I saw on another site, but it has no effect. Brought in a different document, formatted exactly the same as above. This time it kept the space right, but when I narrowed the text box to fit where I needed it, instead of lines just dropping down as they should, they are actually laying on top of each other. I am at a complete loss.... ANY help would be greatly appreciated!

    Don't use Word styles in InDesign. Set up InDesign styles which will replace word styles when text is imported into InDesign. Word styles have different parameters as InDesign styles have. You can't compare them, every imported Word style will make a mess in InDesign. You can set up once the style in InDesign and create a template upon file import how Word Styles are translated into the InDesign styles.

  • Copy and paste from MS Word to Apple Mail - line spacing

    Folks:
    When I copy and paste single-spaced text from MS Word into the body of an email message in Apple Mail, it pastes in as double spaced text. Does anyone know of a fix for this? I can't seem to find how to change line spacing in Apple Mail. Thanks.

    hi, had the same issue
    went into the word doc, removed all tabs (even if not using tabs there were some hidden) and paragraph formatting and it pasted in fine... my doc was a single paragraph...
    BUT having fixed that I found another doc which underlines the text when pasting it into mail!!!! havn;t solved that!

  • Word doc import/export and line spacing differences with Pages '09

    When I save or open a Word .doc, the default line spacing differences messes up the document formatting, the document ends up being more pages in Pages than when I open in Word:Mac.
    One work around I learned about on this forum is to set the line spacing to "exact" in Pages. This is okay, except many Word documents have subtle line spacing before or after paragraphs and/or different size fonts in the document that affects line spacing. Setting Pages line spacing to exact makes a mess of these documents.
    Why can't Apple build a proper line spacing function into Pages so it is more compatible with Word? If they are touting compatibility, they need to make a disclaimer in their advertising as only simple documents seem to work without issues.
    Is there a better work around available?
    Thanks.
    Bud

    Bud,
    It seems that there is incompatibility in the before and after spacing (Ctrl + 0 in Word for Windows adds 12 points, if I remember correctly).
    Since you mention a .doc file, it makes me think you have a Word 2003 or earlier format. I have a couple of suggestions:
    1. If you have access to Word 2007 or Word 2008 for Mac, try saving in .docx. Basically, a .docx is compliant with Office Open XML, the ECMA standard that is the basis for the document formats in Microsoft Office 2007 and Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac.
    [Note: The Office Open XML ECMA standard, or OOXML is a source of polemic since it was donated by Microsoft and competes with Open Document Format, or ODF. You can find more here:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OfficeOpen_XML#Implementations_of_new_2008version
    and Microsoft has stated they'll support the newer standard and retrofit Office 2007. Let's hope they do the same for Office 2008 for Mac and that Apple picks up as well with an upgrade for Pages '09 or in Pages '10]
    2. If the above does not work, I would suggest reporting this to Apple. This would indicate a compatibility problem in Office Open XML compliance, which should be independent of Word itself. A way to support this claim would be to test it in another word processor that adds space before and after a paragraph and that supports OOXML, which I think would be too much I would not bother reporting it for a Word 2003 format because it is proprietary.
    Hope it helps.

  • I'm trying to change the default line spacing on Word to 1.5, but the "set as default" button isn't there. How to I make it appear?

    I use Word 2011 and I am trying to change my line spacing default to 1.5. However, the button that usually says "set as default" is not an option. So, I am ofrced to change the line spacing every time I write a new document. How do I make 1.5 spacing a default setting? Thanks!

    It sounds like you're asking for advice on using Microsoft Word. Apple's site is for technical questions about Apple-branded hardware & software. The best place to ask questions about Microsoft Office is Microsoft's own forums. (This link was good the last time I checked.)

  • Permanently save line spacing in a multi-line text field

    Me: Adobe Acrobat 8 Pro, Windows Vista
    (I think the people who will be using the form have Reader 7 on Windows)
    I work in a doctors' clinic, and we use phone message sheets to document conversations between the patients/us/nurses/doctors, and I scanned the form and made it into a fillable PDF for our secretaries to fill out more quickly. The "message" area has pre-printed lines on it, and the multi-line text field I placed there needs to match up to the lines. I used the Rich Text Formatting options to set it to "Exactly 24 Points," but I can't get it to KEEP the formatting permanently. The only way I could get it to save the formatting in that field was to put a space in it and then save it, and then give that to the 2 phone secretaries. It works perfectly the first time, but instead of just closing/re-opening the file to start a new message, one of the secretaries highlights everything in the "message" field and deletes it... which deletes the line spacing formatting. I've told her
    b numerous
    times to leave that starting space in the field, but she "forgets" so all of her messages look messed up. So is there a way to force that line spacing
    b PERMANENTLY
    ???? Here's a shrunken screenshot of the field -- I wish I could just erase the lines altogether so the spacing wouldn't matter, but the secretaries type/print the message out, then the nurses/docs write on the page with pen so the lines have to stay. http://img187.imageshack.us/my.php?image=notepreviewph8.jpg
    Thanks!

    You can set the font size of the text. Then play with the underlines in the original document to match the needs of the font that is used. Print to a new PDF and then use replace pages to put the new page into the form without changing the form fields. I was able to do this with a word processing document by adding underlining in the document with 12 pt and setting the font to 12 pt in the text field. You can play with the font, the border of the field, and the underlining in the original document to get the desired result. Is this optimal, probably not. However it does the job.

  • Pages 5: Spacing between bullets (not line spacing)

    How can I control the spacing between bullets?
    1. I clearly see how to control the spacing around a bullet relevant to its text. That's not what I'm referring to.
    2. I clearly see how to set line spacing. That's not what I'm referring to.
    What I'd like to do is keep a line spacing of 1.0 on the text, but add padding between list items (between bulleted content). The method in Pages '09 was to add buffer space "after the paragraph" (or before). However, in Pages 5.0 this option does not exist. Some of my bullets have enough content that wraps, which is why line spacing is not an acceptable solution.
    How can I control spacing between bulleted list items, such that each chunk of content is better separated?
    Thank you!

    Silly me. I have located it, by expanding the Spacing menu. The control I'm looking for is right there.
    I've included a screencap, in case anyone else misses the obvious like I have. Thanks for looking!

  • I cannot see imbedded images in Word, just lines where the image should be

    MacBook Pro 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7 - 16GB 1333 MHz DDR3- OS X 10.9.4
    Microsoft Office 2011 - "Problems with Word"
    We have a software application that creates DOCX files. Most of the document is fine but where there are imbedded images the images are not there, when we use two fingers on the tracking pad lines appear where the image is supposed to be. I have checked Word (Preferences) and Image Placeholders is not checked, Drawings is checked.
    I have seen other posts regarding this problem but cannot find the solution. Does anyone know how to fix?

    If you right-click the image in Internet Explorer and check its Properties, is it on the same server as the page or on a different server? Do both have a matching protocol (e.g., HTTP or HTTPS)?
    More generally: When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
    (1) Bypass Firefox's Cache
    Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.
    Alternately, you also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:
    "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced
    On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"
    If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.
    (2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site, try either:
    * right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
    * Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
    In the dialog that opens, you can remove the site's cookies individually.
    Then try reloading the page. Does that help?

  • Line Spacing

    I have always had a very hard time with line spacing in InDesign. I always end up with inconsistent line spacing/leading throughout my paragraph. The text blocks act as if I have set hard and soft returns when I haven't. It always seem to be the last word in a paragraph. It's always done this and I've heard other people complain about the same thing. The copy has been cut and pasted into InDesign from a pdf.
    I welcome any suggestions.

    In that little pearl of wisdom from Bob, you are overseeing something that might help a Quark reformee:  .. by default ..
    Check out this screen snap from my Preferences. Note that I have it left disabled, as I am totally confident in my ID formatting / styling skills
    There is a reason Adobe leaves it unchecked by default; enable at your own risk.
    (The reason, obviously, is that any larger-than-usual font size anywhere in your paragraph (including its return at the end) will influence the entire paragraph. I can't help thinking that would be a feature that drives Quark users nuts all around the world.)

  • CSS unordered list {line spacing question}

    Hi everyone.
    I am trying to make a bulleted list, and I have 5 elements.
    Some require one line, while others require two lines. But the
    thing is, I want the leading to be lets say 20pt between items. But
    since some of the items require two lines, i want those items to
    have their line spacing closer so they can seem that they are part
    of the same bullet point. Is there any way I can do this? Is it
    even possible?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    -Ce

    Use <ol> or <dl> or <ul> list container and
    wrap your bullets in individual <li> tags.
    use css to style the line-height of the lis. Use a class on
    each group of lis to set the line-height.
    <ul>
    <li class = "double_height">Item 1</li>
    <li class = "single_height">Item 2</li>
    <li class = "double_height">Item 3</li>
    </ul>
    ul {
    margin: 0;
    padding: 0;
    list-style: none;
    .double_height {
    line-height: 2.5em;
    .single-height {
    line-height: 1.2em;
    You can play with the settings to get the best results but
    this code will give you an idea of what is possible.

    What a css setting for eliminating the extra line space that
    occurs after a </p>
    If this were in Word, this space would be equivalant to a

    You're coming to this forum through Adobe's webforum; it's
    also gatewayed
    to a newsgroup
    (news://forums.macromedia.com/macromedia.dreamweaver). As
    a result of that, the forum is searchable by Google Groups:
    http://groups.google.com/groups?as_q=line+spacing&as_ugroup=macromedia.*
    which came up with 3,160 results.
    I also went to the front page of the Dreamweaver General

    webforum and entered line spacing as the search term. It came
    back with
    a full page of results, all of which give you the answer
    you're looking

  • Fix for extra line spacing in code on publish

    Hi Everyone
    Here is a fix for the issue where on publishing using Contribute (CS3 / CS4) extra line spacing is added into the HTML code on publish.  Everytime you publish using Contribute extra line spacing is added between the lines of coding destroying the formatting over time.
    (See attached PDF document for the complete how to step-by-step fix.)
    The issue lies in the line break type defined in Adobe Contribute settings.  Where the web server type, the website is hosted on Unix / Windows, is different from the line break type defined in Contribute's settings under...
    Users & Roles > Editing > Line break Type
    For example:
    <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd">
    <html>
    <head>
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8">
    <title>Website Tile</title>
    <meta name="keywords" content="Keywords here" />
    <meta name="description" content="Description here" />
    On publish becomes:
    <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd">
    <html>
    <head>
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8">
    <title>Website Tile</title>
    <meta name="keywords" content="Keywords here" />
    <meta name="description" content="Description here" />
    (dots are used just to space the text in the forum thread post, they represent blank lines between the lines of code)

    It sounds like you are carrying over a desktop setting that I dont think is editable in iPad pages. It is the before and after spacing around paragraphs. I have been using iPad versions for months now and cant think of the desktop wording in the inspector.
    Open back up in Dekstop pages and see if you can find that setting and reset it to a lower value, or delete the value and resend to iPad.

  • Line spacing feature doesn't seem to adjust my text

    Hi,
    I'm cutting and pasting lines of results from a Numbers spreadsheet into columns in my Aperture book. The default line spacing 1.0 is too compressed for my liking, so I'd like to stretch all the text in my columns a touch.
    I highlight the text and use command-T to bring up the text panel. I can adjust the line spacing slider but not accurately enough to set all columns to the same spacing (sometimes as I drag the slider the spacing will jump from 0 to 1.4 to 3.3 to 5.8 etc, but when I try it with the next column it goes 0 to 0.8 to 2 to 3 to 4.2 etc) and they don't line up.
    But if I highlight the text and enter a figure into the line spacing panel (i.e. 0.8), the new spacing amount isn't applied to the text. It's still highlighted but doesn't seem to be selected as I have to reclick it to make adjustments.
    Any ideas?

    I think the problem might be because I'm using text in a spreadsheet and that it's picking up formatting.
    Does anyone know if there is a 'clear formatting' feature in Aperture like there is in Word or Pages?
    I don't know of any "clear formatting" options in Aperture books.
    As a work-around, to remove any formatting before pasting to Aperture, I paste the text into a TextEdit window and use TextEdit's command "Format > Make Plain Text". Then I copy the plain text to the Aperture Book.
